Hi Guys, welcome back to TV Reload. Thank you for clicking or downloading on today's episode with Phil Lloyd Creator / Showrunner / Executive Producer from the latest Stan original series Population 11 which is now on Stan Australia. Phil Lloyd is an Australian actor and scriptwriter and partner in the production company Jungleboys. He is best known for his acting role as Myles Barlow in the Australian TV series, Review with Myles Barlow (2008) and the comedy series At Home With Julia, where he played Tim Mathieson, the partner of prime minister Julia Gillard. I personally loved his work with The Moody's and The Moodys Christmas series. Population 11 is inspired by true events (the missing case of Paddy Moriarty - which was the focus of Netflix doco Last Stop Larrimah). Population 11 is about a man who goes missing from a tiny outback town of only 12 residents, and his estranged son, who journeys from the U.S. to find him. The series is very funny and gives you a chance disappear into its world over 12 episodes. I will ask Phil about his thoughts on the documentary that shares the same premise. Which actually surprised me. We will unpack how two write for global audiences and if his writing changes from writing on shows made for Australian audiences. Phil will share the casting decisions on the lead and why Ben Feldman was right for this role. Plus we will get some insights into his collaborators who have worked with Jean Smart and Andy Samberg on previous projects for Stan. There is so much to unpack with Phil and he is really fun to talk to. So sit back and relax as we dive just that little bit deeper into the world of Population 11. Hello, everyone! On today's show: 1989 Taylor's Version is here, but a Harry Styles cameo is not. The world mourns the death of FRIENDS star, Matthew Perry, there are whispers in DeuxMoi that another celebrity divorce is brewing, Kylie Jenner has launched Khy and it's, well, kind of genius. And then: how the hell did Martin Scorcese become TikTok's new… it boy? This week, Zara recommended Green Dot by Madeline Gray. Mich recommended listening to Britney's memoir on audiobook, as well as watching Last Stop Larrimah on Netflix. This episode was audio produced by Annabelle Lee. To call Piper Laurie an underrated genre icon would not be entirely correct. She was an award winning actress who grabbed the spotlight in pretty much everything she was in. It is not until looking at her entire career that her contributions can be truly appreciated. We also revisit the idea of a Halloween television show and talk about the future of the V/H/S franchise.True crime stories have real life horror naturally built into them. The Man in the White Van decides to lean into horror tropes and gives an almost slasher feel. It is a good idea in theory, but the execution makes for one of the worst things we have seen this year. From confusing editing to an ending that fails to work on any level, we go over everything it did wrong while trying to find something good about it.At the other end of the spectrum is Last Stop Larrimah. For obvious reasons, there are not a lot of lighthearted true crime documentaries. This HBO documentary looks at the mysterious disappearance of a man living in the Australian outback. He lives in a small town of eleven people, and everyone is a suspect. The film is able to mix humorous moments into its dark story without ever taking away from the gravity of the case. It is a bit of fresh storytelling that injects life into the genre. The already interesting case is made even more engaging thanks to the way in which everything unfolds. It is easily one of the better things we have seen this year.Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network.
