In this episode of the Underground Lounge, Lou and Spank sit down with comedy legend Alex Thomas for a conversation that feels like a masterclass in culture, comedy, and survival. Alex takes the guys back to his childhood in South Central Los Angeles, where he was bused 40 minutes each day to become the first Black student at an elite Beverly Hills private school, an experience that shaped both his identity and his sense of humor. He talks about being raised by two supportive parents who kept him too busy for the streets, the reality of growing up surrounded by violence, and how staying active in sports, music, and after-school programs helped him avoid the fate of so many childhood friends. The conversation shifts into his early dance career, including how he became a breakout talent on Soul Train, his relationship with Rosie Perez, and the pivotal moment when the Wayans family encouraged him to try stand-up.Alex breaks down the unbelievable week where he bombed a major dance audition, got rained on with $60,000 in cash by Damon Wayans, booked his first-ever Hollywood audition, and accidentally landed one of the most iconic McDonald's commercials of the '90s.The episode goes even deeper when Alex talks about eventually writing for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, how Will Smith discovered him on stage at the Laugh Factory, and what it was like to be the only non-Philly member of a creative team that turned into a brotherhood.Throughout the conversation, the guys touch on parenthood, the differences between public and private school, keeping kids safe in today's world, and what it means to break generational cycles. Packed with laughs, real-life gems, hip-hop history, comedy stories, and authentic Underground Lounge energy, this episode is a must-watch for anyone who loves a good origin story rooted in hustle, culture, and heart.

Flute 360 | Episode 330: "This Is Real Life – Two Flutists, One Faith, and a Journey Through It All with Dr. Kristin Caliendo" This episode isn't just a conversation—it's a moment of truth, healing, and deep connection. Dr. Heidi Kay Begay and Dr. Kristin Caliendo come together for a raw and heartfelt discussion on what it means to live a fully integrated life as a flutist, believer, caregiver, mother, teacher, and friend. It's for the listener who feels pulled in too many directions and is craving clarity, energy, peace, and purpose. If you've been questioning how to juggle it all—your health, studio, family, calling, and faith—this conversation meets you right where you are. It's a reminder that your body is sacred, your energy is a resource, and your identity is not defined by a title—but by who God says you are. Main Points: How faith, food, and friendship sustain us through life's hardest seasons. The connection between energy and your environment: food, people, habits. Caregiving, grief, and the supernatural peace that only God can give. What it really means to steward your body as a temple. Letting go of performance perfectionism and embracing presence in your playing. Redefining success beyond the degree, job title, or performance. Using your music and teaching as a vehicle for ministry and healing. The daily decision to live intentionally—one minute, one rehearsal, one lesson at a time. We loved chatting with fellow Italian Australian Daniele Foti-Cuzzola in this week's episode. Daniele has grown up with a strong connection to his Italian heritage and we had lots to chat about including language, food and spending time in Italy. Daniele's connection to his culture has influenced his professional life as a Creative Director. He now has his own studio named 'Studio Musaicu' and divides his time between Italy and Australia. It was very interesting to hear how Daniele makes it work for him. We also heard about the special children's book Daniele was inspired to write named 'Arrivera La Befana a Fremantle', a bi-lingual story about the Italian folklore legend of La Befana, what we loved most about this story is that it brings an Italian Australian perspective, the book is available for purchase via the link below.Daniele's Instagram:Daniele Foti-Cuzzola (@daniele_foticuzzola) • Instagram photos and videosStudio Musaicu InstagramStudio Musaicu (@studiomusaicu) • Instagram photos and videosLa Befana children's book:Arrivera La Befana A Fremantle?

I'll be back with the fallout from the election next week. But until then here's a Halloween Hangover episode of the show that consists of my appearance on Jason Myles' Pop Life. Toure Reed also joined the program. We talked about teen-campers in the woods horror movies from FRIDAY THE 13TH and SLEEPAWAY CAMP franchises to more obscure titles like THE BURNING, MADMAN, and CHEERLEADER CAMP. Toure gave his thoughts on Joss Wheadon's CABIN IN THE WOODS and its tongue-in-cheek "meta" approach to horror. Realize everyone is burned out from the election, so hopefully this episode will be some type of reprieve.

Also on the show today, how the recent eclipse seems to have brought people together, why AI possibly isn't the monster to hide behind the sofa from, and recharging batteries in a beautiful forest, plus a reminder from former guest Stephen Wilkes of what this month's assignment is all about. Holly Campbell gave birth to her son, Jake in 2007. At just two and a half months old, Jake suddenly stopped breathing and was rushed to the hospital. The following day, Holly and her husband were told the devastating news that their baby was not going to survive. In their grief, they wanted to give their son a legacy and help others, so the selfless decision to donate Jake's heart was made. During this same time period and nearly 1,000 miles away, Kim Scadlock gave birth to her son, Beckham. Beckham seemed healthy at birth, but soon medical staff discovered he was struggling to breathe. After tests were done, Kim and her husband were told Beckham's only chance to survive was to receive a heart transplant. Thankfully, Jake's heart was a match for Beckham and the transplant took place. Afterward, while both families were in the process of grieving and healing, they thought of each other often, although they did not know each other's identity. Through the organ donor networks, the families were eventually able to contact each other and in 2010, Holly, Kim and their families met for the very first time at the Transplant Games in Wisconsin. Thirteen years later in 2023, Holly and Kim were invited to performed the song “For Good” from the musical, “Wicked” on the popular television show, America's Got Talent. “For Good” has a special meaning for Holly as it was the last song she was able to sing to Jake before he passed and also special for Kim, as it was the first song she sang to Beckham after he received his new heart. In this episode of Your History Your Story, Holly and Kim will share their story of love, friendship and the importance of life saving organ donation. We all go through life facing our own battles. Often times, a voice in our head convinces us to think we are in the battlefield alone but, when we open up to someone else, we soon realize we are not the only one with wounds and battle scars. In this episode, I sit down with my dear friend Kim Ciarcia as we reflect on our shared experiences of recovery with respective eating disorders and what they have taught us about mental health in general. Health and wellbeing of the individual is not achieved at one moment of life and kept the same from then on. Rather, it is a life long journey that changes with time and requires us to persistently challenge the status quo, our thoughts, and develop patience in the relationships with ourselves and others. Leave this episode feeling empowered and connected, and share it with a friend. -K xx {Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the authorities, against the powers of this world's darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms}Ways you can help Hurricane Ian relief:-- donation and volunteer networks --https://convoyofhope.org/https://samaritanspurse.org/our-ministry/hurricane-ian/?utm_source=Bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=m_YYHI-N22V&utm_content=USDR&msclkid=ca3a4b30e389137b6504287139d69bb0&utm_term=hurricane%20ian%20reliefhttps://www.redcross.org/donate/disaster-relief.html/?cid=disasternonbrand&med=cpc&source=b&scode=RSG00000E017&msclkid=01c20fd616dd1bf6829b6c97ccaba2c3&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Disaster%7CNonBrand&utm_term=hurricane%20ian%20relief&utm_content=Hurricane%20Ian&gclid=01c20fd616dd1bf6829b6c97ccaba2c3&gclsrc=3p.dshttps://www.elevationoutreach.org/https://www.americanhumane.org/monitoring-hurricane-ian/?msclkid=df7291672b0f1e337682f226f016cfe5&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=SEM%7CBrand%7CUS%7CHurricaneIan%7CGoogle&utm_term=hurricane%20ian%20how%20to%20help&utm_content=Ian%7CPhrase**Trigger warning for eating disorders and mental health recovery**

Behind the Bar conversations. This is what it's like to work at a coffee shop. You never know what conversation you'll have next. This time we just got to talking about what it's like being a dad. Both Matt's and Josh's toddler sons just had a birthday, so we thought we'd reflect on how fatherhood has changed us, how we have no idea what we are doing, but man do we love being a father. We get serious, we get dumb, we just hope you enjoy this episode and enjoy some time talking about some real life stuff.

Today, I'm talking to Don Ezra. Don's illustrious career in the insurance and finance industries began in the 70's and his achievements are numerous. His 26-year career at Russell Investments culminated when he became its Co-Chair of Global Consulting. In 2010, Don "graduated" to a part-time schedule that gave him more freedom to pursue a wide variety of other interests. Since then, Don has also served on the Joint Investment Committee of Margaret A Cargill Philanthropies. He's been on the advisory board of the World Pension Summit and on the Scientific Advisory Board of Manifold Partners, LLC. He's also become an occasional contributor to the Financial Times, where he's the author of a column called The Art of Investing. Don's passion is to teach others about personal financial planning, investing, and the economic and subjective aspects of happiness, especially as it pertains to life after full-time work–what some of us still call "retirement." In his newest book, Life Two, he helps readers conquer their irrational fears, put themselves in the driver's seat, get an understanding of their financial situation, and take control of this extraordinary period of life. In our conversation, Don and I talk about why your identity is not defined by what you get paid to do, the irrational fears so many people face as they transition into retirement, and how to find real, lasting happiness at every stage of life. Sweathead Facebook group member Philipp Paster lives in Kyiv, Ukraine. Much of his family is there, too. But everyone lives in different apartments. On Friday, March 11, Philipp (formerly a brand strategist at TBWA Ukraine) spoke with me about what it's been like to be living in Kyiv during the Russian invasion. I only watched the documentary “Winter On Fire”, which looks at the toppling of one of Ukraine's leaders Yanukovych, after speaking with Philipp. Watching it before speaking with Philipp would have given me better questions. Like many of us, I'm only just starting to wrap my head around the history of Kyiv and Ukraine. Still, many thanks to Philipp for sharing his thoughts with us. I'll post another interview with three Ukrainians later this week. **

In His opening words to the Church at Thyatira, Jesus offers the congregation remarkable advice as to how they can honestly assess their spiritual lives. He also warns them about a false prophet that is living amongst them and helps them to clarify the difference between a spiritual gift and a church office. Two 4 Ten airs twice per week (usually) and episodes are 10 minutes long (roughly).
