We're crying tears in the rain! The Letterboxd Show returns with actress and screenwriter Ariela Barer, star of How to Blow Up a Pipeline, whose faves include Blade Runner, The Conformist, Tie Me Up! We also praise film school nerds, discuss consent among movie characters, Ariela's mom's and sister's important roles in her film education, remembers watching Blade Runner on a teenage date, and unpacks Pipeline director Daniel Goldhaber's Letterboxd addiction: “He sends us reviews daily, we had to beg him to stop!” And! We have one of my very favorite people on the show today. Brendan is the host of Tales from the Mall, a podcast where he talks to people while walking around the Arizona Mills mall. On this episode, we talk about 2008's Love Exposure, incels, novel-like films, the panty-peek ninja, love, perversion, first boners, spinning sonnenrads, finding religion, finding normalcy, and finding a friend group. This was a great episode, with lots of feelings of love and exposure.

Hardcore film fanatics probably already know the name Sono Sion from his many works in Japan where he's been hailed as “one of the most idiosyncratic artists of his generation.” From films such as “Suicide Club” to “Love Exposure,” Sion had a reputation for grotesque violence, extreme eroticism, surreal images and complex narratives. In 2018, Sion planned his first overseas production with an English language film that would star Nicolas Cage, who described the project as “the wildest movie I've ever made.” The original script for the film was actually written as a more straight forward action film but Sion had to add his own personal touches, which the director says “added a little bit of weirdness.” The film is set against a dystopian society ruled over by a ruthless Governor who sends Cage's character out into a nuclear wasteland to retrieve his granddaughter, which is a code name for one of his sex slaves. In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we're going to check the explosives strapped to our bodies and grab a samurai sword as we review the 2021 sci-fi fever dream known as “Prisoners of the Ghostland”….
Elwood and Stephen look at Sion Sono's "Hate Trilogy" comprised of Love Exposure, Cold Fish and Guilty of Romance. Three films all memorable in thier own ways while covering everything from serial killers and cults to weird fetishes and of course Sono's trademark violence to make for one of the more unique viewing experiences on the show as we breakdown all three films.
Randy brags about being cool in Atlanta, Clark watches his first Jane Campion film and Russ wraps up his weekend hanging out with Jorge Torres-Torres at Another Hole in the Head's screening of “Bride of Shadow Zombie”. Welcome to the long awaited twelfth episode of 'Cinemafia' – the film-review show where one of us lies. It’s been far too long since our last release, so to our three beautiful fans we humbly apologise… To those who did not notice our inexplicable silence – shame on you
Welcome to the eleventh episode of 'Cinemafia' – the film-review show where one of us lies. We keep pretending we have a weekly, Tuesday release schedule, but that just isn’t happening, is it? This week: ‘Hellboy’ – the 2019 reboot of the eponymous supernatural superhero film series, directed by Neil Marshall and based on the graphic novels written by Frank Mignola. As always, we recommend you watch the film before listening, as we don't go over the plot in detail and much of our discussion may otherwise be meaningless and frustrating (if it isn't already). The premise: we review a film, but one of the hosts (the Mafia) is covertly distorting their opinion, and it's the job of the other hosts (the Villagers) to deduce who the Mafia is and thus vote for their lynching... while at the same time everyone (hopefully) provides engaging critical analysis. If you would like to know who the Mafia is before listening, head to tinyurl.com/cinemafiaspoilers. Next week we will be reviewing ‘Love Exposure’ – the impressive four-hour-long 2008 Japanese action/drama written and directed by Sion Sono. _______________________________________________________________ Official Podcast: Youtube – Apple Podcasts – Podbean Instagram: @cinemafiapodcast

Endlich Japanuary!
Q*bert's Sex Noises We return with the most suggestively titled episode yet. In off the Shelf, we saw and conquered a ménage à trois that included Adam Sandler's Pixels, Sion Sono's manic epic Love Exposure, and the catastrophic 'making of' Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley's Island of Dr Moreau. Our Film of the Week is Joel Edgerton's feature-length debut The Gift.
In the latest episode of Film Interrupted, Jack, Martin and Nick pop in their curlers and cosy under the duvet to watch some romantic comedies. Or, to be specific, high concept romantic comedies, including Hae-jun Lee’s Castaway on the Moon, Shion Sono’s Love Exposure and Albert Brooks’ Defending Your Life.
