In this Road to Macstock Conference and Expo conversation we welcome longtime speaker Kirschen Seah to discuss her upcoming session, Passkeys Demystified. Kirschen explains the promise of passkeys as a more secure, user-friendly alternative to passwords, and why adoption has been slower than expected. She shares insights into how passkeys work using public key cryptography, addresses common concerns about biometric data, and outlines how password managers like Apple Keychain and 1Password integrate with the system. With real-world scenarios and practical examples, Kirschen aims to help attendees confidently adopt passkeys and understand the evolving standards behind them.
Brooklyn-born Israeli cartoonist Yaakov Kirschen, whose iconic “Dry Bones” cartoons appeared in newspapers for decades, has died at Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba at the age of 87 after a lengthy illness. Kirschen, who made aliyah in 1971, began drawing his trademark cartoon “Dry Bones” in 1973—a series inspired by the biblical vision of the Valley of Dry Bones and featuring a main character named Shuldig (Yiddish for guilty or blame). The comic strip became internationally syndicated and was published in The Jerusalem Post for 50 years before Kirschen moved his work to JNS.Jeff Barak, a former editor in chief of The Jerusalem Post, says that Yaakov Kirschen was the “ideal cartoonist.” He told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan that Kirschen had a unique, original style and a joie de-vivre presence whose cartoons also resonated outside of Israel. SEMRON is pioneering the development of revolutionary 3D AI chips that pack massive computing power into a tiny silicon area without overheating. By leveraging an innovative semiconductor device that's ultra-efficient, SEMRON aims to enable the next generation of edge AI capabilities. In this episode of Category Visionaries, I sat down with Aron Kirschen, CEO and co-founder of SEMRON, to explore how they're tackling the fundamental hardware limitations holding back AI at the edge. Topics Discussed: The development of SEMRON's novel semiconductor technology that avoids electron movement The current state of edge AI hardware and its limitations The impact of ChatGPT on the semiconductor industry Building a deep tech startup in Dresden, Germany's microelectronics hub The long-term vision for democratizing AI compute power GTM Lessons for B2B Founders: Patience in Deep Tech: The semiconductor startup timeline requires thinking in 3-5 year horizons for go-to-market, not the typical 1-year timeline of software startups. SEMRON spent four years developing their core technology before reaching process freeze and beginning customer demonstrations. Focus on Enterprise-Scale Relationships: Rather than pursuing a broad customer base, SEMRON targets 5-6 major customers who can each generate millions in revenue. This shapes their entire go-to-market approach, emphasizing deep technical engagement over traditional marketing. Leveraging Technical Feedback Loops: SEMRON's strategy involves working directly with customer engineering teams to deploy proprietary AI models on their hardware. This creates valuable feedback loops that reshape product development based on real application needs. Strategic Location Advantages: While Dresden may not be Silicon Valley, its history as Europe's microelectronics hub provides crucial advantages for semiconductor startups - from talent to manufacturing partnerships with companies like TSMC, Infineon, and Global Foundries. Cost-Driven Innovation: True hardware revolutions happen when the driving technology becomes extremely cheap. SEMRON focuses not just on technical performance but on dramatically reducing the cost per compute to enable mass adoption of edge AI capabilities. // Sponsors: Front Lines — We help B2B tech companies launch, manage, and grow podcasts that drive demand, awareness, and thought leadership. www.FrontLines.io The Global Talent Co. — We help tech startups find, vet, hire, pay, and retain amazing marketing talent that costs 50-70% less than the US & Europe. www.

Prior to joining Rockwell Collins I worked at Acuity (formerly ichat) developing interactive user interfaces for live chat customer service agents. As I'm retired, there's now more time to share technical insights on my blog, develop useful scripts (Python, shell), and write Shortcuts. I'm really motivated to share my experience to help fellow software practitioners develop better skills – be that in good design, implementation, or computer science fundamentals. As much as I can, I try to share the delight in discovering how iOS and macOS applications for productivity and creativity have helped me do better in my personal and (former) work life." On today's episode we talk to Jackie Kirschen, registered dietitian and nutritionist, about her 65 pound weight loss journey and how she used mindful eating as a tool for her own weight loss and to keep it off for over 13 years.Jackie started her weight lost journey in university, when she faced a pre-diabetes diagnosis and was told she had a BMI considered morbidly obese and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. After working with a nutritionist, learning about nutrition as a means of fuel for the body and processing emotional patterns she had with food, she lost 65 pounds over one year and has kept it off since! Her weight loss journey was also pivotal for her career as she discovered she no longer wanted to become a doctor, but instead wanted to learn everything she could about nutrition in order to help others feel empowered to live a healthier life. She now uses the technique of mindful eating, something she used in her own weight loss journey, as a way to help others live a healthier life and does so with her clients 1-on-1 and through group coaching sessions, as well as on social media where she is known as “The Mindful Nutritionist”.As we all entering the New Year and are contemplating resetting different parts of our lives, including health, this episode will surely help anyone looking to revamp any challenges related to nutrition and health. For anyone looking to connect with Jackie, you can find her website here: https://eatright4life.com/ and/or you can connect with her on social media here: https://www.instagram.com/the.mindful.nutritionist/.If you found this episode helpful, please do share it with your friends and family and leave a 5* review - it helps the channel make a more positive impact on the world!Lots of love EnvisionAirs!Nicole xxxSupport the show

Today, Dr. Pradip Kamat (Children's Healthcare of Atlanta/Emory University School of Medicine) and Dr. Rahul Damania (Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital), are excited to speak with Matthew Kirschen, MD, PhD, FAAN, FNCS, regarding a very sensitive topic involving pediatric brain death guidelines published in 'Neurology' in October 2023. Dr. Matthew Kirschen, a leader in pediatric neurocritical care and one of the authors of the new guidelines.Guest Introduction:Dr. Matthew Kirschen is an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, Pediatrics, and Neurology at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Kirschen's journey includes a residency at Stanford followed by a unique dual fellowship in neurology and pediatric critical care at CHOP. Notably, he's among the rare professionals dual-boarded in both PCCM and Neurology.Dr. Kirschen's tireless endeavors in pediatric neuro-critical care, especially his work on multimodal neuro-monitoring to detect and prevent brain injuries in critically ill children, have garnered significant attention. His expertise also extends to predicting recovery post-severe brain injuries. Pertinent to today's discussion, Dr. Kirschen has displayed a keen interest in the precise diagnosis of brain death and proudly stands as one of the authors of the new guidelines on the topic of Pediatric and Adult Brain death/death by neurologic criteria.Discussion:1. Understanding Brain Death Criteria:Brain Death/Death by Neurologic Criteria (BD/DNC) declared with permanent cessation of all brain functions, including brainstemImportant considerations before BD/DNC determination:No evaluation in infants < 37 weeks corrected gestational ageAbsence of coma, intact brainstem reflexes, and spontaneous breathing inconsistent with BD/DNC2. Who Can Perform BD/DNC Evaluations:Attending clinicians must be credentialed and trained in BD/DNC evaluation. Two attending clinicians are needed for evaluation, with exceptions for advanced practice providers.3. Prerequisites for BD/DNC Determination:Importance of identifying the etiology of BD/DNC to avoid reversible processesObservation periods based on age and type of brain injuryMaintaining core body temperature before evaluation4. Blood Pressure Management:Hypotension can lead to impermanent coma; clinicians should manage with fluids or vasopressors.Specific blood pressure targets for different ECMO support types5. So Wikipedia. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/audiostretto/message
