From the 1950s onwards, the foundations of investment consulting were laid, as pension funds and institutional investors sought professional guidance on asset allocation and portfolio management. This was enhanced in the 1960s & 70s by the introduction of Modern Portfolio Theory by Harry Markowitz and the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) by William Sharpe. Today, the investment consulting industry has become a vast cog in the investing machinery, increasingly extending its reach from institutional through to individual investors. In this interview, Michael Manning, CEO of NEPC, with nearly $2 trillion under advice, sits at the epicenter of these developments. We learn how the world of consulting has developed, the reasons behind its growth, how it has adapted, and its move into the individual market. Michael then discusses the investment terrain. Is the US peaking relatively, and what might that mean? How to assess passive versus active? Is private equity due to disappoint? And how to assess the risk/returns of private debt, infrastructure and real estate. The Money Maze Podcast is kindly sponsored by Schroders, IFM Investors, World Gold Council and LSEG. Self-control is not about holding onto everything in our life, it's about freely living with purpose! Self-control is our last fruit. We want to walk in all of the fruits, but self-control is unique because it starts with us. It's so important to walk with the Holy Spirit in order to walk out a life of self-control. Proverbs 16:32 says "better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city." Proverbs 25:28 says, "like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control." Self-control is valuable and something men and women of maturity carry. When we don't have self-control, we allow the enemy to break through our walls into our hearts. We don't want your life to consist of this AND we don't want this for your kids! “Self-control is a gift God has given us to contain our selfish selves and build his Kingdom.” - Suz A lot of what we unpack in today's episode is how self-control is the fruit of a life inspired by God. Michael, our 5th child and oldest son, speaks about his 23 years of life and how he pursued men of God who inspired him to live a life full of purpose. Their leadership in his life taught him how to make Kingdom decisions and life with self-control. One of the goals of this series is to inspire our kids to live a life with the Holy Spirit. Self-control is one of the gifts from God to help our kids be their best! We get to come alongside our kids and equip them to live a life full of purpose. Self-control is not something we do on our own – it takes people and family! Things we cover in this podcast: We are invited to be intentional in life and self-control is a big element Self-control has been modeled by God and He values is What does self-control within Christianity really entail? Why is self-control valuable and how do we walk in it daily? How are self-control and accountability connected? What does self-control look like within our relationship with God? God is transforming us from one degree of glory to the next. A degree is SO SMALL and you don't see the change instantly. It happens gradually over time, but it is still beautiful. The vision of loving the journey is so important as we practice self-control in everyday life. “Self-control comes from vision. Vision takes intentionality.” - Don Want MORE resources? Today is Palm Sunday - the start of the week that the Christian church calls HOLY. It's a week that starts with rejoicing and celebrating, as Jesus rides into Jerusalem - just days later, those same crowds who greeted him so warmly, are shouting for his death - and this Holy Week ends with a sordid, agonising death by crucifixion. So is this the end - or is it maybe just the beginning? And what do these events say to our world, 2,000 years later? We explore - in words and music, and in contributions from the 8th Manx Bard, Michael Manning, and from author, broadcaster and retired Baptist Minister, Richard Littledale. And we visit a church that's at a crossroads - in more ways than one! We go to Sulby Methodist Church to talk with Louise Whitelegg, Derek Jones and Doris Kermeen - to find out which road they're taking! Plus there's notice board news too Items for the notice board can be emailed : judithley@manxradio.com

Increasing the number of meatless menu options has been a priority in a variety of onsite dining venues, from colleges, where vegetarian and vegan students often form a powerful interest group, to healthcare facilities where the reported health benefits of eating less animal protein are putting more focus on plant-based dining. Meanwhile, K-12 schools already have a mandate to serve a certain amount of fruits, vegetables and whole grains while limiting the meat portion if they participate in federal school meal reimbursement programs like the National School Lunch Program and National School Breakfast Program. That being said, few if any schools have made as binding a commitment to plant-based dining as Richfield High School in the Richfield Public Schools ISD in Minnesota, as Richfield High recently became the first high school in the country to sign the Forward Food pledge that commits it to increasing its plant-based options by specific amounts by certain target dates. In this FM One on One With podcast segment, Michael Manning, director of food & nutrition for Richfield Public Schools, talks about this commitment, why it was made and how he plans to implement it.

This question and answer session is a valuable insight into where the latest thinking is as regards tackling the opioid crisis. How do we get to an understanding where the entire continuum of care is on the same page as regards pain relief? What's the level of adoption for opioid free anaesthesia? Can re-languaging pain or "re-writing the narrative" help, for example is it better to speak of 'comfort levels' as opposed to pain? What's the latest thinking as regards caffeine as an aid to comfort? Should we be worried about post operative delerium as regards ketamine use? What about gabapentinoids in the elderly? What about Midazolam? What should we send patients home with afterwards? This week we’re going back to a favorite episode from 2015. During World War II, something happened that nobody ever talks about. This is a tale of mysterious balloons, cowboy sheriffs, and young children caught up in the winds of war. And silence, the terror of silence. Reporters Peter Lang-Stanton and Nick Farago tell us the story of a seemingly ridiculous, almost whimsical series of attacks on the US between November of 1944 and May of 1945. With the help of writer Ross Coen, geologist Elisa Bergslien, and professor Mike Sweeney, we uncover a national secret that led to tragedy in a sleepy logging town in south central Oregon. Check out pictures of the ghostly balloons here. Special thanks to Annie Patzke, Leda and Wayne Hunter, and Ilana Sol. In 2009, Michael Manning was working in Beijing for a state-owned news broadcaster by day, but he spent his nights selling bags of hashish. His position with CCTV was easy and brought him into contact with Chinese celebrities, while his other trade expanded his social circle and grew his bank account. His dual life came to an end on March 15 when a team of undercover officers knocked on his door as he was taking delivery of a package. That night, authorities hauled him to Beijing No. 1 Detention Center, where he spent more than half a year. In this episode of Sinica, Michael discusses how the police nabbed him, the conditions of his incarceration, his daily routines during imprisonment, his cellmates and his surprisingly positive feelings about China after he got out.
