This week we are throwing it back to a conversation I had last year with my good friend, Logan Lester! Logan was Miss Texas USA 2018, the same year I was Miss Missouri! We actually first met for a photoshoot in Central Park, but later reconnected at the Miss USA competition where our friendship solidified. Logan is a well-known realtor in the Houston, Texas area, as well as a fashion blogger. I mean, just check out her Instagram, the girl has got style. I've experienced this myself, but it seems like once you put on the crown, opinions about you come from every direction -- from people who have never met you and don't know a thing about you. People like to tell other people how to live their lives if you haven't found that out yet. With her passions in real estate and fashion, Logan publicly pursues both and for some, that just doesn't sit right. She has heard countless voices tell her that she should only focus on one or the other -- but never both. Rest assured, Logan leads her own life and is going to do what makes her happiest. -- Are you ready to create more CONFIDENCE in your life and starting winning? "She's Beautiful" --that may be the first thing to come to mind when you see a photo of MISS TEXAS USA 2020, Taylor Kessler. If you've learned anything about the women of MISS USA it's that they're all more than a pretty face. Taylor, specifically, has overcome, adapted, and evolved through the adversities in her own life. I reached out to Taylor initially because, after following her on social media since the inception of her reign in August 2019, she seems like the most confident woman in the world. "How did she do it?" i thought, I needed to know how she built her confidence overtime. Turns out, she's faced an incredible amount of emotional tragedy and overcome unbelievable: domestic violence. In this episode, Taylor shares with us her emotional personal story, how she overcame domestic violence, and later rediscovered her confidence. I'm so incredibly proud of this woman and love being able to share her powerful story with the world, with the hope of encouraging other young men and women who are in situations of domestic violence. Taylor graduated with a double major in Communications and Broadcast Production. Fluent in American Sign Language, this former competitive athlete set her sights on joining the NFL as a sideline reporter, and she is an intern at GALvanize, Women in Sports. Serving as host and emcee for the ALL American Bowl on NBC put Taylor on the radar with a few NFL teams beforeCovid19 struck. Not to be “sidelined,” Taylor set out to obtain her Real Estate license, which will double her impact: allowing her to sell you your home on Saturday and sell you sports on Sunday! Taylor is an active volunteer with various organizations including Houston Area Women’s center, Saafe House and Jamie’s Hope to name a few. Tune in to hear the powerful story of MISS TEXAS USA 2020, Taylor Kessler, and why she's essentially the "titleholder" for "Miss Understood." Follow Taylor's journey to MISS USA as she competes for the title on FYI network live, November 9th. Angela and Carson both were able to maintain their desire to not have sex and are still honoring that now into their 30's… Why did you make the decision to save yourself for marriage and how did you do that? Carson: * Carson grew up in a fairly conservative environment and grew up going to a Christian school.* Masculinity does not equal having a lot of sex with women. * Carson talked about how he had to learn about what makes a man a man and one of the things is refraining from causing harm when capable of it. * He talked about how he simply knew what he wanted in waiting to have sex and being in a baseball locker room helped reveal to him what he didn't want as well. * Carson talked about how he saw his parent's get divorced and he wanted to make sure he could do anything he can to not relive the pain of that. For him that meant to save certain expereinces for his wife, such as having sex. Angela: * As a young girl, her parents truly put an emphasis on keeping herself for marriage. * “I want to wait until I can fully trust someone with my heart, and give the full of me in that way”* Angela said that social media and the culture of it can have a negative impact on how sex is viewed. How did you two meet? * Carson does not like social media, but the irony is that he met Angela on instagram.* Angela was Carson's first ever girlfriend even though he always wanted a girlfriend* Carson talks about how he wrote out his dating woes, fears, and desires.
Alayah Benavidez was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. Growing up, Alayah’s ambitions did not know any limits. Dreams of becoming a professional model, pageant queen, author and professor were never just dreams to her, they were something she could make a reality. We all know that most pageant queen success stories do not come without some sort of hardship along the way. In high school, Benavidez was diagnosed with dyslexia and was told she should switch her classes to get additional help, and that she should expect a change in her grades. While these professionals probably had good intentions with telling Alayah the reality of what her expectations should be, this simply did not fit into Alayah’s mindset.Dyslexia could have been the disability that held Alayah back, but instead to propelled her forward, stronger and more determined than ever. Her life motto then became, “work smarter and strive harder.” This helped her excel in AP and dual credit classes.Alayah knows how important reading and writing is to help children in their academic success. This is what inspired her to develop a literacy program for children called ‘Read The Way.’ A common saying that Alayah promotes is, “if you read today, you can lead tomorrow.”In August 2016, Alayah Benavidez captured the title of Miss United States 2016. Miss United States is a national pageant that celebrates women of all walks of life. It empowers its contestants and titleholders to be good and give back to those less fortunate. The pageant has eight age categories where the contestants compete in typical pageant phases of competition including a private interview, swimwear or sportswear, evening gown and on-stage question. I’m very excited about today’s call. We have on the phone, Kourtney Mag-nes, who was recently crowned 2016 -17 Miss Texas for National Elite Pageants and she will go on to compete at the 2017 National Elite Pageant! Kourtney has 10 years of pageant experience and has also competed in the USA system and is a former 2013 Miss Houston USA where she went on to place in the top 15 at Miss Texas USA. She is joining us today to share her tips and advice on preparing for pageant interview! Kourtney welcome to the call! How early in advance do you start interview prep? Where do you start? Do you find it beneficial to write down possible questions or make lists? What is your strategy? What topics do you focus on when preparing for interview? Have you done mock interviews? If so, do you feel they are beneficial? What have you found to be the best resources for preparing for the interview portion of the competition? How do you manage pre-interview jitters? Is there anything you do that helps calm your nerves before walking into interview? If shaking hands with a judge is optional, do you recommend extending your hand to them? Do you practice hand shaking ahead of time? Some judges ask girls to have a seat and others don’t. Should girls just have a seat if they are unsure they are going to be asked? How is preparing for a one-on- one interview different for preparing for a panel style interview? What tips would you give a girl who is preparing for her first interview? How do you make yourself stand out to the judges? How do you create connections with them? If you are able to find out who your judges are ahead of time, do you research them and find out more about them? Does it help you in connecting with them during interview? What do you do if you are stumped by a question? What if a judge asks, “do you have any questions for me?” – what would you recommend asking them? What do you recommend girls always have prepared ahead of time (a short commercial about her state, a joke, etc.)? Are there questions that you feel are givens and that every girl should be prepared to answer? If so, what are a couple of them? How can you bring up a topic or piece of information you feel is really important to relay to the judges, even if they don’t ask you about it? What do girls need to tell themselves right before walking into the interview? What type of wardrobe advice would you give for the interview portion? We can find you at ThePageantPlanet.com. How else can we find and follow you and your system on social media? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
