In her role, she provides training and technical assistance, develops original resources, and collaborates with partners to enhance the ability of multidisciplinary professionals to recognize and respond to stalking. Julia's work in gender-based violence began more than 15 years ago as a college student, when she worked at a rape crisis center and as a peer health educator. Since then, she has worked as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Tanzania, in gender integration in global health with USAID, and to improve how multidisciplinary professionals identify and respond to domestic and dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.SPARC (Stalking Prevention, Awareness, & Resource Center) is a federally funded project providing education and resources about the crime of stalking. SPARC aims to enhance the response to stalking by educating the professionals tasked with keeping stalking victims safe and holding offenders accountable. To stay up-to-date on SPARC's resources and offerings, follow us on social media (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter) @FollowUsLegally and/or subscribe to our quarterly newsletter. SPARC does not provide direct services to victims. We recommend that stalking victims work with a local victim advocate, and the Victim Connect hotline can help connect victims with one. Local victim advocates can help plan for safety, discuss legal options, and connect victims with additional services. Victim Connect can be contacted at https://victimconnect.org/ for online messaging and information, and by phone at 1-855-484-2846. Local domestic violence and sexual assault support services/organizations often work with stalking victims/survivors, even when those victimizations are not part of the stalking. Unfortunately, there are no hotlines and few support service organizations that specifically work with victims/survivors of stalking.Hosts: MaryAnne Metheny, Ilene Shehan, and Tina JohnsonIf you are in an emergency, call or text 9-1-1.For information about our services and how Hope House can help, call our 24-Hour Hotline at 816-461-HOPE (4673) or the National Domestic Violence Hotline 800-799-7233.hopehouse.net

Boxing legend Christy Martin was a trailblazer in the ring and continues to be an inspiration to female fighters across the globe. She is without a doubt the most important woman in the history of female combat sports. But behind the scenes Martin was in a losing battle, unable to express her true sexual identity and struggling to survive sexual and domestic abuse at the hands of her husband. While she rose to prominence in the world of boxing, Martin was secretly contending with substance abuse, domestic violence, and an attempted murder by her husband, who left her to die on their bedroom floor. Fighting for Survival reveals how Martin battled back to life from her near-death experience, how she overcame abuse, violence, addiction, and 40 years of living in the closet, and how she turned her pain into victory and debasement into triumph. Her story is one of hope and self-belief, an inspiration for anyone struggling to break the chain of abuse or who fears to be open about their sexual orientation. lesnorman.comRadio/Podcast Host, Inspirational Keynote Speaker, Cable TV MLB Analyst, Life/Executive Coach, Former MLB Player, Husband, and Father Les Norman has a passion for people. He finds human beings utterly fascinating, loves sharing their stories-the REAL ones-with the world on his radio show and podcast, "Breakin' the Norm". He is also driven to help create passionate servant leaders in business, assist others to establish their own personal brand, and lead men to be the best they can be through life and executive coaching. One of his greatest rewards is to see others live joyfully and be successful! Les grew up without much in life. An abusive childhood could have left him broken, but he used the wrong road map to find the right places. He often heard phrases like "You'll never make it." or "You're not good enough.", but instead of believing the negative voices, it pushed him to become driven to achieve the success he wanted to. He learned what true joy is through faith and family. And most importantly, he used his gift of encouragement to help others in life. He's had a remarkable ride. Earning a Jr. Olympic Gold Medal. Playing Major League Baseball. Cliff jumping into the wild ocean in Venezuela. Sitting in a volcanic hot tub in Costa Rica. And even winning on the hit game show, "Wheel of Fortune"!! But with all those cool experiences, the best one of all...being husband to his bride and best friend of 26 years, Kristin, and being baseball coach and dad to amazing sons Mack (22) and Tayt (18)! ***Thank you for listening to Illuminating Hope: A Podcast of Hope House.
