Let's talk about something most retreat leaders avoid… until they absolutely can't. Insurance. In this episode of The Retreat Leaders Podcast, Shannon Jamail sits down with Myles Anderson from Event Helper, an insurance provider specializing in events and retreats, to break down why insurance is not optional in the retreat industry - it's essential. Because here's the reality: You are responsible for people's safety, experiences, and well-being during your retreat. And without the right coverage in place, one incident can put your entire business - and personal assets - at risk. In this conversation, Shannon and Myles discuss: Why retreat leaders need event insurance Why venues should require it What can actually go wrong at a retreat The real consequences of not having proper coverage How retreat leaders can protect themselves, their guests, and their business This episode is not fear-based - it's reality-based. If you host retreats, events, or group experiences, this is one of the most important conversations you can listen to.   What You'll Learn in This Episode • Why insurance is essential for retreat leaders • What types of risks exist at retreats and events • Why venues require insurance (and why you should expect it) • What can happen financially and legally without coverage • How insurance protects both the host and the guest experience   Key Takeaways You Are Responsible as the Host When you host a retreat, you are taking on responsibility for: participant safety activities environment logistics Even with the best planning, things can happen.   Insurance Protects More Than You Think Insurance isn't just about worst-case scenarios. It protects: your business your personal assets your reputation your ability to continue hosting retreats   Venues Require It for a Reason Professional venues often require retreat leaders to carry insurance. This protects: the venue the retreat host the guests If a venue doesn't require it, that's something to pay attention to.   Without Insurance, the Risk Is Real Without proper coverage, retreat leaders could face: liability claims legal costs unexpected financial loss And in some cases, it could shut down a retreat business completely.   This Is About Being a Professional Running a retreat is not just about creating a great experience. It's about operating a real business. And real businesses protect themselves.   About Event Helper Event Helper provides event and retreat insurance designed to protect hosts, organizers, and venues. 00:00 Well it's been pretty big news here in the upstate. We've all heard the story about Jay Gilstrap or should we say Emmanuel Jahoo Gilstrap. He was accused of lewd behavior back in the 90s by I guess a former babysitter. was arrested in 2023. He was sentenced 00:26 to a judge, Judge G.D. Morgan Jr. imposed a three-year prison sentence that was suspended upon one day in custody. And we're hearing that Gilstrap actually entered an Alford plea. Let's find out what that is with attorney Rob Inaario. Rob, welcome to the program. Have you been following this very closely? Not very closely. I think mostly upstate it kind of. 00:55 caught me off guard. Yeah, I flew under the radar for a long time, I am aware of what's happened. Okay, so what is an Alfred plea exactly. So it goes back to a case I think from the 60's early 70's North Carolina be Alfred. Alfred was accused of murder and they offered him a plea where they would take the death penalty off the table if he pled guilty. And he. 01:25 said that he would plead guilty. ah He got 30 years and then came back and contested saying that the only reason he was pleading guilty was not because he was guilty, but because he didn't want to risk the death penalty. Okay. case went all the way up to the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court ruled that a defendant does have the opportunity to accept the consequences of a plea and enter a plea without admitting guilt. 01:53 It's similar to a no contest like with a traffic court, where most folks are probably most common with it. But it's a little different in that a judge has to find that there is a strong factual basis for the plea and everybody has to agree that if the case went to trial, more likely than not, the defendant would be found guilty. Which brings me to my next question. How do you defend yourself against something that happened 30 years ago? 02:23 And that might very well be why we have an Alfred plea in this situation. Yeah. Um, there's no or little to no forensic evidence that would be around. It's going to be a, said, she said a recollection from 30 years ago and an allegation can be enough. Uh, usually there needs to be more to it. Yeah. But if you are in somebody in a position that you didn't want, 02:50 all of your dirty laundry aired or you just didn't want even a week-long circus of a trial might be an interesting way to enter an offer plea, do the day, get it over and done, and then deal with the aftermath. Right. And this, and I'm not saying this applies to this case, but this would be like keeping your secret secret instead of all of this being exposed in court. 03:20 Correct. And then also add to it, uh it looks like the plea was to an assault and battery second degree, which can qualify for sex offender registry depending upon the circumstances, but it's not mandatory like a lewd act may be. Right. So another reason to enter the offer plea may very well be to avoid the risk of having to register as a sex offender, which, wow, that's... 03:48 not anything that anybody ever wants to have. Yeah. And it's certainly something that'll follow you around for a long, long time. And there may be reasons. I'm not familiar with any of the facts of the case, but with a 30 year old allegation, I will say that, you know, three years suspended to one day. That's something I would have a talk with my client and say, you know, at least take a 04:14 take a week, think on it, talk it over with family, figure out is this the right option for you because there's a big gamble. Yeah. And it could be a big gamble where you win, but if you lose, you lose big. Yeah. Now, he was originally charged with uh committing or attempting a lewd act upon a child under the age of 16. That is a felony. So that charge was dropped, right? Yes. 04:39 And the assault and battery second degree is a misdemeanor carrying up to three years. So with, even though he's not a convicted felon under federal firearms law, anything tha ...

The courtroom is the right place to fight back, not during the incident itself.Probable Cause Standard Is Low: Many people misunderstand what constitutes “probable cause.” As Troy Henricksen points out, it doesn't take much for an officer to make a legal arrest—matching a vague description might be enough.Courtroom Is the Battleground: Steve Palmer emphasizes that even if an arrest is later found to be unlawful, resistance during the arrest can lead to additional charges. The best course of action is to comply in the moment and let your attorney fight for you in court.Got a question you want answered on the podcast? Call 614-859-2119 and leave us a voicemail. In this episode of Hidden Killers with Tony Brueski, we go deep inside the courtroom drama unfolding in Utah—the state's capital murder case against Tyler James Robinson, the man accused of assassinating political figure Charlie Kirk during a public event at Utah Valley University. Robinson, just 22 years old, now faces aggravated murder and six additional felony charges. According to prosecutors, he left a note, allegedly confessed via text, and was tied to the weapon with forensic evidence. The state has made it clear: they're seeking the death penalty. But here's where the story shifts from headlines to process. Robinson is being represented by Kathryn Nester, a former federal public defender appointed by Utah County after Robinson was found indigent. According to multiple reports, Nester may be joined by nationally recognized capital attorneys Michael Burt and Richard Novak—though official court records haven't yet confirmed their formal entry. This isn't about politics. It's about law. In this video, we examine: Why the Constitution requires a strong defense—even in emotionally charged, politically volatile cases. What makes a capital case different from a regular murder trial. How the prosecution plans to prove premeditation and political motivation. What the defense will likely challenge, from forensic chains to digital records. The next legal steps: preliminary hearings, motions, jury selection, and a possible penalty phase. This isn't just about guilt or innocence. It's a test of the entire justice system under maximum pressure. Whether you support the prosecution or are simply watching for truth, this is the story behind the story—where law meets reality. Illegal-Hiding Judge “Diner” Dugan's Legal Defense is a JOKE!

This past April Wisconsin Judge Hannah “Diner” Dugan obstructed the lawful arrest of illegal migrant third-world invader Eduardo Flores-Ruiz by ICE agents executing a lawful order of deportation.  Agents would ultimately have to chase Flores-Ruiz down a public street after his surreptitious release by Judge “Diner” Dugan, and secure his arrest.  Unfortunately for Judge “Diner” Dugan, her escapades were entirely captured on court house surveillance cameras.  As one might guess, this conduct is a violation of Federal law, and Judge Dugan was indicted for violating two federal statutes collectively good for 13 years in prison. She has been suspended from the bench pending her criminal prosecution proceedings in federal court.Hard facts make for a hard legal defense, and Judge “Diner” Dugan now finds herself having to raise the most outrageously ridiculous legal defenses in an effort to have the federal charges against her dismissed.  A federal magistrate has already produced a 37-page legal analysis breaking down precisely why “Diner” Dugan is not entitled to dismissal and ought to proceed to trial—but that's not the final decision on this question. The unelected, black-robed, tyrannical, inferior, federal district trial judge assigned to the “Diner” Dugan case is Lynn Adelman, a rather infamous left-wing judge appointed to the federal bench by Bill Clinton in 1997.  Prior to that, Adelman was an infamously left-wing Wisconsin legislator.  Given the recent conduct of the federal bench in the law fare it is waging against Trump in general and the nation's immigration law in particular, one would expect Adelman to take an extra-judicially lenient view of “Diner” Dugan's demands for dismissal. In today's show we take a look at this week's most recent motion by Department of Justice prosecutors exposing why “Diner” Dugan's legal arguments for dismissal are without merit, and why she should face trial for her violation of federal felony crimes. The #1 guide for understanding when using force to protect yourself is legal. Tyler Perry is facing a $260 million sexual harassment lawsuit from actor Derek Dixon—and his legal team wasted no time calling it a “scam” and “shakedown.” That move may work in court. It won't hold up in the court of public opinion. In this episode, I break down:How aggressive legal statements create reputational damageWhy pattern recognition is the biggest risk to Perry's brandThe Christian Keyes video circulating online and its unspoken implicationsWhat Perry's team should have said instead—and why it mattersFrom the “Lizzo Effect” to the gap between legal and reputation risk, this is a classic case of what happens when a billion-dollar brand forgets that beloved status is earned—and easily revoked.Strategic Takeaway: Defensive desperation destroys trust faster than the allegation itself.Want More Behind the Breakdown? One of the best performing athletes in the sport for the past decade, Stian has been noticeably absent from the racing circuit since OCC by UTMB 2023 – the 50k World Final – where Stian won for the 2nd time.   After OCC, it came to light that Stian had tested positive for a diuretic called Chlorthalidone – a substance that is banned in and out-of-competition for masking other banned substances or facilitating rapid weight loss. Stian has spent the last year and half defending himself against these allegations and has vehemently maintained his innocence.   To my knowledge, this is Stian's first time speaking about the subject in a long-form interview and, to his credit, he left nothing out-of-bounds, supplying me with all relevant documentation from the case. Of course, doping is serious, it does happen, and when it does, it's a terrible violation of everything that makes sport great. At the same time, there are banned athletes who are innocent or who test positive under questionable circumstances. Recognizing that this is a touchy subject that deserves scrutiny and seriousness, I encourage you to listen with an open mind and allow Stian to tell his side of the story.   We walk through the entire timeline of events, the emotional cost in losing his career, the financial cost of defending himself, the public support he's received, lessons learned, advice for other pro athletes, his goals for returning to sport, and a lot more.   READ THE TIMELINE OF EVENTS   Sponsors: Use code freetrail10 for 10% off Speedland Footwear Grab a trail running pack from Osprey Use code FREETRAIL25 for 25% off Never Second nutrition at never2.com Go to ketone.com/freetrail30 for 30% off a subscription of Ketone IQ Freetrail Links: Website | Freetrail Pro | Patreon | Instagram | YouTube | Freetrail Experts   Dylan Links: Instagram | Twitter | LinkedIn | Strava

Can Jack Smith's new filing secure a conviction of Donald Trump? Spoiler alert: it's complicated. In this all-new episode, legal experts Asha Rangappa and Renato Mariotti dive deep into the complexities of the latest unsealed filing in the Washington D.C. district federal court seeking to break through presidential immunity and put Donald Trump on criminal trial for crimes stemming from his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election. Subscribe to our Patreon here, where paid members will get access to exclusive portions of this show. patreon.com/reallyamericanmedia Our hosts take a comprehensive look at the strategic elements and rigorous arguments presented in the immunity brief, which serves as a roadmap for Jack Smith's bold new prosecution strategy based on a fairly recent, superseding indictment. And they'll provide insights into how Smith is specifically challenging Trump's claim of presidential immunity, asserting that his actions were in his capacity as a presidential candidate, rather than in an official capacity. You'll hear about the extraordinary level of detail in the filing, which weaves together a variety of evidence to paint the picture of Trump's alleged conspiracy and misconduct. Renato highlights Smith's strategic use of Trump's tweets, which provides a clear differentiation between his official and personal statements. Asha and Renato also break down the significant role of Trump's legal advisors like Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell, who not only provided legal cover for questionable activities, but may have also contributed to the smokescreen of legitimacy around claims of election fraud.  Lastly, Asha explains how the  committee also laid the groundwork for much of the evidence now seen in Jack Smith's prosecution filing. Our hosts reveal the impact of the January 6th committee's findings on shaping public understanding of these events, and explore the potential defenses Trump will likely employ.  We hope you enjoy this episode. Be sure to join us next week as Asha and Renato continue to untangle the complexities of all of the most important legal drama in America's history as a democracy. Learn more about your ad choices.
