He emphasizes the importance of gratitude and appreciates the richness of existence and the stability of his family. Osborne is creating Sanctuary, a platform that empowers others and provides low-cost access to spiritual practitioners. He is also evolving his podcast, Silas Seven, into a series of chapters on various topics.
The science increasingly points to a very positive link between (responsibly and professionally administered) psilocybin - or 'magic mushrooms' - and mental health. After reading American-Iranian comedian, writer, and actor Negin Farsad's experience on a Jamaican psychedelic retreat, written for AFAR, I talked to both Negin, and CEO/Head-facilitator of Mycomeditations, Justin Townsend about psychedelics, mental health, and creativity. This is a warm, deep, intriguing insight into the world of fungi and the human experience, which touches upon Jungian depth psychology, the default mode network, and the things that hold us back from our optimal creativity. Justin Townsend is the CEO and Head Facilitator at the psilocybin therapy retreat centre MycoMeditations. He is on the show for this episode to explore two topic themes: The business side of running a successful psilocybin retreat centre in the economic context of the modern corporate world without losing your ethics in the process The therapeutic framework and philosophy that MycoMeditations holds for their retreats and their guests. Some of the things we cover on the first side of the conversation: Justin's journey from the corporate world to running an psychedelic psilocybin therapy retreat centre; psychopathology and integrity in the corporate world, and how good people end up doing bad things; the nuances around running a financially successful psychedelic retreat centre without ethical sacrifices; what it means to be building what they call “gold-standard for group-facilitated psilocybin therapeutics in natural settings”; data propriety; and supporting peer-reviewed research. In the other half of the conversation we explore: why MycoMeditations holds an entity “non-shamanic” framework for their psilocybin work; how to support someone who has a beyond Western framework experience from a non-shamanic framework; helping to prevent post-psychedelic hypomania from evolving into psychosis; differentiating between psychosis and a “normal psychotomimetic response”; non-pharmacological interventions for psychosis and psychotomimetic responses; as well as The Golden Shadow and the dangers of golden-shadow projection in both psychedelic therapy and spiritual communities. About Eric Osborne: Eric Osborne has a twenty-three-year history as a specialist with psychoactive and gourmet mushrooms. His first venture, Magnificent Mushrooms distributed gourmet mushrooms throughout Indiana and Kentucky. During that time he worked underground as a psilocybin facilitator until he and his wife were arrested and charged with three class B felonies. After overcoming this challenge, Eric and his wife Courtney founded MycoMeditations in 2013, the first Jamaica-based psilocybin retreat. While in Jamaica, Eric administered over 3000 doses of psilocybin to more than 1000 clients. He also founded two psilocybin mushroom farms in Jamaica, Magnificent Mushrooms and Psacred Therapeutics. In 2021 Eric left Jamaica to return to the US to cofound Psanctuary; The Sacred Mushroom church with his wife Courtney and former Myco employee Athena. Eric and his wife also host the Psilocybin Says podcast which covers all aspects of wellness through the lens of psilocybin. In this episode, Kim Andryc, Lora Solomon, and Eric Osborne discuss: Coming to understand the mystical. Becoming more aware as we awaken. The benefits of psilocybin and psychedelics. Experiencing the highs and the lows of life. Key takeaways: It takes courage to take what you learn from a mystical experience and bring it into everyday life. When you experience the reality of our connection, it transforms you. Psychedelics is a powerful tool, but it still requires humans to transform humanity. The only sin is the illusion of separation from the source and one another. "Become able to embrace the perceived cleanliness as much as the perceived filth and see them as equal. MycoMeditations with CEO & Head Facilitator Justin Townsend today on Psychedelic Radio with Christina Thomas, president and founder of MY Self Wellness, and Charles Patti, brand ambassador of MY Self Wellness only on The Cannabis Radio. With experience as an advisor to start-ups, most recently in the healthcare space, Justin brings a blend of business acumen, leadership skills, and a nose for futuristic health models to the MycoMeditations team.Throughout his career Justin has worked as a business leader across a range of industries, helping innovative companies identify opportunities, communicate their vision and deliver profitable products. But he has also been on a personal quest to explore alternative healing therapies to combat his own anxiety and depression.
Today I'm talking with Justin Townsend, CEO and Head Facilitator for MycoMeditations. His company operates legally in Jamaica doing psilocybin-assisted retreats. Participants attend for seven days, work with licensed therapists throughout, and trip three times. You've probably heard about some of the potential therapeutic applications of psilocybin, and changes in states like Oregon, which legalized the medicine for therapeutic use. I've heard predictions that as psychedelic therapy spreads, there will soon be a huge need for tens of thousands of therapists trained in this modality. I picked Justin's brain about what people who are interested in working in this emerging industry should know. We also delved into why psilocybin is therapeutic in the first place, and the results his team has seen with attendees. This was not in any way sponsored content, even though it's a great commercial for MycoMeditations. (If I ever get to the point where someone offers me money for an interview, I would only do that if I really thought it would be a good conversation, and I would always disclose that the episode was sponsored.) But speaking of sponsoring, please consider donating to my Venmo @rachel-krantz so that I can make Season 2 of Help Existing. Here are some additional incentives: --The first ten people to donate $30 or more can claim a signed UK edition of OPEN. --The first five people to donate $50 or more can claim an Unbound Babes vibrator. --Anyone who donates $150 or more can get a one-hour session with me consulting on the topic of their choice--writing, pitching, meditation, or whatever else you want to talk about. Thanks so much for listening, and to anyone who can give!
Eric Osborne has over 20 years of experience with psychedelics. In 2013, he started a psilocybin retreat center in Jamaica called MycoMeditations and hosted a podcast called Psilocybin Chronicles where he interviewed guests about their experiences with psilocybin. More recently, Eric and his wife Courtney moved back to the United States and founded Psanctuary, a non-denominational faith-based community that centers around the sacrament of sacred psilocybin-containing mushrooms for personal, communal, and global healing. They also co-host their podcast, Psilocybin Says, where they discuss the use of psilocybin for self-development. In this episode, Eric shares some fascinating personal experiences that don't fit into a strictly materialistic worldview. He's interacted with interdimensional entities and deceased loved ones and made clairvoyant psychic connections with other people in group psilocybin settings. The purpose of the podcast is for entertainment and harm reduction. In 2012, he began diving further into the research behind psychedelic therapy and psilocybin in particular. Soon thereafter he founded MycoMeditations, a legal psilocybin mushroom retreat in Jamaica dedicated to providing therapy to those in need. Despite overwhelming numbers of successful sessions conducted and countless positive experiences facilitated, they ran into legal challenges over the years. Eric continues to be a trailblazer however and now shifts his focus on his organization PLEDG (Psilocybin Liberation Education Discipline and Guidance). We discuss all this and more, come check it out! More on Eric: Eric on LinkedIn PLEDG (Psilocybin Liberation Education Discipline and Guidance) MycoMeditations Coffee! I talk with Eric Osborne, founder of Mycomeditations. We talk about his journey starting as a young boy, having an ultimate love and connection with nature, reptiles, and being his most authentic self. Eric shares with us how he not only had a fascination with mushrooms and nature, but human conciseness and healing others as well, when he realized the healing properties of of psilocybin through his own personal experiences. This was a great, raw conversation! Eric made his first annual pilgrimage to Jamaica in 2003 and worked with his first MycoMeditations group there in 2013. As the first Indiana State Certified Wild Mushroom Expert, a gourmet mushroom cultivator and founder of the non-profit organization PLEDG, (Psychedelic Liberation Education Discipline and Guidance) Eric has committed his life to learning and teaching the benefits of medicinal fungi. Twenty years of work cultivating, consuming, and administering psilocybin has taught Eric many invaluable lessons. With a sincere and lighthearted approach, he maintains a safe and structured setting for the psilocybin voyager. This journey has not been an easy one. In 2013 Eric was arrested for hosting psilocybin sessions on his farm. While creating significant challenges, it was the motivation needed to take his work public. Witnessing the healing effects of psilocybin so many times fueled Eric's drive to ensure safe, legal access to psilocybin. In 2016, while serving a two year probation sentence Eric invested all of his efforts into building MycoMeditations and PLEDG. The work has continued to grow ever since and the healing has touched hundreds of individuals.
Italian hospital administrator Francesco shares his early thoughts on psilocybin from his first MycoMeditations retreat. Our hearts go out to this friend of MycoMeditations. His last stay with us with us ended just before COVID-19 swept across Italy. We hope that his experience with us provided some space and preparation for what he went home to.
A cornerstone figure of the Jamaican psilocybin movement, Doreen Gordon hosted the first every MycoMeditations retreat at her guest house in 2013. Doreen finally takes the mic to tell the world how she feels about psilocybin.

Surprise double episode drop! My friend Shane Mauss and I have a zany conversation about "the biz" (aka show business). The impetus to release this episode along with Sophia Rokhlin's (EP 08) is because they are on tour together RIGHT NOW doing a cool show called "Head Talks". All the info on that will be clear once you listen to these episodes and or go to Shane's website . Topics touched : leaving gear in venues, living on the road, being single, Shane's prog comedy shows Stand Up Science & Head Talks, regular jobs vs the never ending uncertainty of art life, my first con job, Magic Mushroom retreats, Life feeling meaningless, what Late Night spots feel like for a comedian these days, thinking in tweets and grams, running out of pink himalayan sea salt, DIY ethics, why an assistant is probably better than a manager or agent, why Sophia Rocks-lin and Shane puts a case of psilocybin into the Cosmic Time Capsule! Originally from Wisconsin, Shane moved to Boston in 2014 to pursue his childhood dreams of being a comedian. He is now an award-winning stand-up comedian who has done many TV sets including five appearances on Conan, multiple appearances on Comedy Central and a variety of other shows. You may know him best from his recent appearances on podcasts like Pete Holmes ‘You Made It Weird', Duncan Trussell's Family Hour, The Joe Rogan Experience, and Marc Maron's WTF. Midway through his career, this former factory worker who skipped college for comedy followed his natural curiosities and started the science podcast ‘Here We Are' where each week he travels to interview a different scientist about their work and the meanings of life. In 2019 he started touring with his live show ‘Stand Up Science' which combines two comedians and two scientists on the same stage for a night that is equal parts aha and haha. Due to the success of this tour, he has decided to add a psychedelic version of the show and ‘Head Talks' was born. He is a psychedelic advocate and explorer whose 111-city comedy tour about psychedelics ‘A Good Trip' was the inspiration for the documentary ‘Psychonautics: A Comic's Exploration of Psychedelics'. Available now on Amazon Prime & iTunes, the documentary combines perspectives of some of the top researchers with Shane's personal journey in a fun, enlightening, and somewhat turbulent adventure. He has even been a guest facilitator at several legal psilocybin retreats run by MycoMeditations in Jamaica. follow Shane www.shanemauss.com @shanecomedy ( twitter) @shanemausscomedy ( instagram )
For this episode I spoke with Taína Galarza (www.instagram.com/modernalchemix/), who I met on a MycoMeditations psilocybin retreat for women facilitated by Dr. Katherine Maclean and Dr. Rosalind Watts (www.mycomeditations.com/). In this episode we talk about how psilocybin has helped her to manage her depression and anxiety, create a better relationship with her family and channel her power and energy as a Reiki practitioner. Scientist, seeker and teddy bear, Craig, shares his exploration into healing with the use of psilocybin mushrooms at MycoMeditations.
Hello, friends! In this episode podcast, I do a little Q&A with some really awesome questions. For one reason or another, I also felt a little silly so have fun with my rambles and random laughter. Here are the questions that I cover: How can I make gaming a healthy part of my life and not let it interfere with more important things? What does it mean to "process" trauma? What can I do about my postpartum social anxiety? As always, you can check out the full show notes at duffthepsych.com/episode176 and you can learn more about me at duffthepsych.com/starthere. If you have questions, send them over to duffthepsych@gmail.com. This episode of the Hardcore Self Help Podcast is sponsored by MycoMeditations Psilocybin-Assisted Retreats. MycoMeditations provides a legal means of experiencing the transformative and healing properties of the psilocybin mushroom. They provide 7-day retreats in Jamaica that involve guided psilocybin treatments, group processing, massage, accommodations, and authentic Jamaican cuisine. Learn all about MycoMeditations at their website or on episode 171 of the podcast, where I interview their founder.
This was a fantastic interview with public health psychologist, Dr. Perry Halkitis. We talk about disparities in health and mental health treatment for LGBTQ individuals and how they have changed over the years. He also shares some information about his own unique personal and career path. Unfortunately, my side of the audio is a little blown out, but Dr. Halkitis sounds great and I think that his message was too good to not share with you all. I think it's well worth a listen. Full episode show notes are available at http://duffthepsych.com/episode175 Sponsor: This episode is brought to you by MycoMeditations Psilocybin-Assisted Retreats. They provide legal 7-day retreats in Jamaica that use the psychedelic psilocybin compound to help you work through significant mental health issues. Shanika Sancroft currently manages cultivation for Magnificent Mushrooms LTD, the Jamaican company that cultivates psilocybin mushrooms for MycoMeditations retreats. She also works as a facilitator for MycoMeditations. Prior to that as social worker for the parish of St. Elizabeth Jamaica.
This is a special episode. I was approached by a company called MycoMeditations that wanted to sponsor the podcast. They actually were very persistent and approached me a few times about it because they were really interested in the opportunity to speak with you all. MycoMeditations is a company that hosts retreats in Jamaica that use the psilocybin mushroom, also known as the magic mushroom. It's an often misunderstood substance that research has shown to be an effective way to reduce the impact of treatment resistant mental illness such as depression and anxiety. Since this is a topic that is somewhat sensitive (psilocybin is not legal in the US), I wanted to do things a little differently. Rather than just running a short ad, I wanted to have the opportunity to dive deep and fully explore the issue. So this is a sponsored episode. MycoMeditations did pay for this interview spot, but I am approaching it just like all of the other interviews that I do on the show so that you can be appropriately informed and make your own decisions. My guest for this episode is Eric Osborne, who is the founder and head facilitator of MycoMeditations. He has a very interesting background in that he is a wild mushroom expert and mycologist. This enables him to approach things from a very unique angle, which you will hear in the episode. Rather than administering the mushroom in it's raw form, he uses a process to make measured capsules of it to have better control of the dosage. I really hope that you enjoy this episode. It was very interesting for me. Please have a look at the full show notes at duffthepsych.com/episode171 and reach out to Eric if you have any questions after listening! Check out MycoMeditations at their website to learn more!

Today we talk with Eric Osborne. Eric holds a Master's Degree in Education, is the first Indiana State Certified Wild Mushroom Expert, and is the founder of PLEDG, (Psychedelic Liberation Education Discipline and Guidance), a U.S. based non-profit for psychedelic research and education. And also the founder of MYCOMEDITATIONS a 100% legal psilocybin mushroom retreat center in Jamaica!
Eric Osborne is the creator of MycoMeditations, a Psilocybin Mushroom retreat center in Jamaica. We have a fascinating conversation about the psychedelic mushroom experience and how psychedelics have often been the foundation for early religious belief systems. As we enter what Eric calls a "Psychedelic Renaissance" conversations like this one become increasingly more important to have. If you enjoyed this episode and would like more information on MycoMeditations mushroom retreats you can visit www.mycomeditations.com
Eric Osborne created mycomeditations a psilocybin retreat center in Jamaica. In 2015, as a result of hosting private psilocybin sessions on his farm, he was arrested. This event turned Eric’s life upside down. Following this, he was forced into house arrest and two years of probation. It was however, during this struggle, that the grand vision for MycoMeditations was born. Eric wanted to ensure that people could have legal access to psilocybin, in a place where they could feel safe and not worry about legal repercussions. He had witnessed the healing effects of psilocybin too many times to give up. Regardless of the legal status of psilocybin in the United States and most other parts of the world, Eric knew this was his calling. Having spent many of his younger adult years in Jamaica, one of the few countries where psilocybin remains legal, he knew he’d found the perfect location for the center.
