Her research focuses on emotions and emotion regulation, with an emphasis on their links to psychological and physical health. In her research, she uses measures of emotion experience, behavior, and physiological responding, and combine laboratory, daily-diary, and longitudinal survey approaches. In this episode, we explore the psychology of emotion. We first discuss what emotion is, its importance to mental health, how emotion relates to cognition, and good and bad emotions. We then talk about emotion regulation, the factors that play a role in it, the role of context, and gender differences in emotion regulation. We discuss the role of culture in mental health, and how to improve emotion regulation, particularly through cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness. Finally, we discuss the paradoxical effects of valuing and seeking happiness. -- A HUGE THANK YOU TO MY PATRONS/SUPPORTERS: PER HELGE LARSEN, JERRY MULLER, BERNARDO SEIXAS, ADAM KESSEL, MATTHEW WHITINGBIRD, ARNAUD WOLFF, TIM HOLLOSY, HENRIK AHLENIUS, FILIP FORS CONNOLLY, DAN DEMETRIOU, ROBERT WINDHAGER, RUI INACIO, ZOOP, MARCO NEVES, COLIN HOLBROOK, PHIL KAVANAGH, SAMUEL ANDREEFF, FRANCIS FORDE, TIAGO NUNES, FERGAL CUSSEN, HAL HERZOG, NUNO MACHADO, JONATHAN LEIBRANT, JOÃO LINHARES, STANTON T, SAMUEL CORREA, ERIK HAINES, MARK SMITH, JOÃO EIRA, TOM HUMMEL, SARDUS FRANCE, DAVID SLOAN WILSON, YACILA DEZA-ARAUJO, ROMAIN ROCH, DIEGO LONDOÑO CORREA, YANICK PUNTER, CHARLOTTE BLEASE, NICOLE BARBARO, ADAM HUNT, PAWEL OSTASZEWSKI, NELLEKE BAK, GUY MADISON, GARY G HELLMANN, SAIMA AFZAL, ADRIAN JAEGGI, PAULO TOLENTINO, JOÃO BARBOSA, JULIAN PRICE, EDWARD HALL, HEDIN BRØNNER, DOUGLAS FRY, FRANCA BORTOLOTTI, GABRIEL PONS CORTÈS, URSULA LITZCKE, SCOTT, ZACHARY FISH, TIM DUFFY, SUNNY SMITH, JON WISMAN, WILLIAM BUCKNER, PAUL-GEORGE ARNAUD, LUKE GLOWACKI, GEORGIOS THEOPHANOUS, CHRIS WILLIAMSON, PETER WOLOSZYN, DAVID WILLIAMS, DIOGO COSTA, ANTON ERIKSSON, ALEX CHAU, AMAURI MARTÍNEZ, CORALIE CHEVALLIER, BANGALORE ATHEISTS, LARRY D. No, not like that. I'm not talking about how to achieve the ultimate happiness, eudaimonia, or enlightenment. I'm simply talking about how to enjoy your down-time without feeling like you're doing it wrong. If you've ever looked forward to a well-deserved day off and then settled down for some serious relaxation only to find yourself consumed by anxiety about whether you're enjoying yourself enough, this episode is for you.References:Diener, E., Sandvik, E., and Pavot, W. 2009: 'Happiness is the frequency, not the intensity, of positive versus negative affect', in Diener, E. Marco Aime"La carovana del sultano"Dal Mali alla Mecca: un pellegrinaggio medievaleEinaudi Editorewww.einaudi.itNel 1324 Mansa Musa, il sultano del Mali, «l'uomo piú ricco che il mondo abbia mai visto», intraprende il suo pellegrinaggio verso La Mecca, a capo di un immenso corteo lungo decine di chilometri e composto da migliaia di uomini e da altrettanti dromedari carichi di quintali e quintali d'oro. What happens when we stop trying to "fix" things for our students and start showing them how to accept negative emotions? In this episode of the School for School Counselors Podcast, we examine the surprisingly transformative power of acknowledging and accepting negative emotions.School counselors can serve as advocates and allies, but we are not magicians. Not every issue can be "fixed," and sometimes, the healthiest way forward may involve experiencing and accepting the not-so-pleasant emotions. In this pod, I talk about how we can guide students to understand that emotions, like all things in life, are temporary, and how accepting these emotions can pave the way for better psychological well-being in the long run.I also talk through the limitations of prescriptive approaches in school counseling and the potential pitfalls of readily-available resources, emphasizing the need for thoughtful, quality approaches that recognize the importance of negative emotions. It's an interesting conversation, to be sure, and one I can't to share with you.Resource:Ford, B. Series ThreeThis episode of 'The New Abnormal' podcast features Maurice NDiaye, Founder and CEO at Descartes & Mauss, the first Stratech and a new breed of AI-powered consulting firm.Maurice has devoted his career to using artificial intelligence to solve the most complex business challenges: with a dual professional background as an Ecole Polytechnique Engineer and a Columbia University business graduate, he's convinced that technology can, and should, enable companies to be both more efficient and more virtuous. After starting his career at McKinsey, Maurice spent about a decade designing AI-based capabilities and services to help companies grow faster. The company he founded and runs today, Descartes & Mauss, is the result of these years of research and consulting. So, we discuss how he basically measures the immeasurable i.e. making tangible what has not yet happened in order to build instability-proof action plans. Modelling the future is his obsession, especially in a world that has become more unstable than ever, and I really enjoyed listening to his illumination of this fascinating subject.

Welcome back to Words2Heal! Season 4 is all about my favorite healing tool, journal prompts. For the longest time, I have valued this healing modality and I felt called to share 8 journal prompts to see if this is something that you are in need of, too. Research suggests that journaling can help us accept rather than judge our mental experiences, resulting in fewer negative emotions in response to stressors (Ford, Lam, John, & Mauss, 2018; Baikie & Wilhelm, 2005). I can't wait to talk to you more this season!
the boys talk about slobbing, john mauss, will levis, collusion, and duty ethics.

The idea of mimetic viruses (or memes) comes from French anthropologist Marcel Mauss, who coined the term in his essay The Gift. It refers to how some ideas are so contagious that they spread throughout entire cultures and cause systemic problems like nationalism, racism and sexism. Mauss believed that these dangerous ideas could infect people's minds like a computer virus; we're not aware of them because they're invisible, but their effects are real nonetheless.
8/25/21 - Kristine Mauss is featured throughout the new film on the Traditional Latin Mass, Mass of the Ages. Kristine is a widowed mother of four, whose husband, Michael, died of a brain tumor last year at the age of 41.

Many of us have heard people say things like, “try not to judge yourself so much” or “let go of your judgments." While we may intellectually recognize that judgments may not be all that helpful, we do not always feel well-grounded in why letting go of judgments is so important, or clear about what to do instead of judging. In this episode we talk about: 1) what makes a judgment a judgment and how judgmental statements differ from nonjudgmental ones, 2) the ways in which judgments can both help and harm us, 3) research supporting the importance of working toward more of a nonjudgmental stance, 4) specific, concrete strategies for responding to judgments effectively and shifting our relationship to judging. We end with a brief mindful practice that walks us through key steps involved in working toward a nonjudgmental stance in a specific area of our lives in which we are noticing judgment. Watching football games being played behind closed doors lately has highlighted how important supporters are in creating that unique atmosphere on a matchday. But have you ever thought of supporters as ‘magicians'? This is the view proposed by Katarzyna Herd who has explored the practice of magic among Swedish football supporters. Katarzyna's work builds on the notion of ‘magic' as described by the French sociologist Marcel Mauss, who defined magic as a means of creating a socially constructed space, in which certain rites are performed to foster a collective belief in the power of these practices to influence events. Drawing on her experience attending games with the radical supporters of Malmö, Katarzyna argues that the core elements of magic as Mauss describes it are present at matches with the most radical fans engaging in behaviour considered taboo by other supporters (boisterous chanting, lighting flares, and displaying aggression towards the opposition). How essential is suffering to being a football fan? Does supporters' magic operate in the same way in a virtual space online, or is it only present in the ground itself? Are football's magical elements reduced in corporate football cultures such as in the English Premier League? ...all this and more in the sixth episode of the Football and Society podcast. *** If you like the podcast, please subscribe and give us a review via your platform of choice. Surprise double episode drop! My friend Shane Mauss and I have a zany conversation about "the biz" (aka show business). The impetus to release this episode along with Sophia Rokhlin's (EP 08) is because they are on tour together RIGHT NOW doing a cool show called "Head Talks". All the info on that will be clear once you listen to these episodes and or go to Shane's website . Topics touched : leaving gear in venues, living on the road, being single, Shane's prog comedy shows Stand Up Science & Head Talks, regular jobs vs the never ending uncertainty of art life, my first con job, Magic Mushroom retreats, Life feeling meaningless, what Late Night spots feel like for a comedian these days, thinking in tweets and grams, running out of pink himalayan sea salt, DIY ethics, why an assistant is probably better than a manager or agent, why Sophia Rocks-lin and Shane puts a case of psilocybin into the Cosmic Time Capsule! Originally from Wisconsin, Shane moved to Boston in 2014 to pursue his childhood dreams of being a comedian. He is now an award-winning stand-up comedian who has done many TV sets including five appearances on Conan, multiple appearances on Comedy Central and a variety of other shows. You may know him best from his recent appearances on podcasts like Pete Holmes ‘You Made It Weird', Duncan Trussell's Family Hour, The Joe Rogan Experience, and Marc Maron's WTF. Midway through his career, this former factory worker who skipped college for comedy followed his natural curiosities and started the science podcast ‘Here We Are' where each week he travels to interview a different scientist about their work and the meanings of life. In 2019 he started touring with his live show ‘Stand Up Science' which combines two comedians and two scientists on the same stage for a night that is equal parts aha and haha. Due to the success of this tour, he has decided to add a psychedelic version of the show and ‘Head Talks' was born. He is a psychedelic advocate and explorer whose 111-city comedy tour about psychedelics ‘A Good Trip' was the inspiration for the documentary ‘Psychonautics: A Comic's Exploration of Psychedelics'. Available now on Amazon Prime & iTunes, the documentary combines perspectives of some of the top researchers with Shane's personal journey in a fun, enlightening, and somewhat turbulent adventure. He has even been a guest facilitator at several legal psilocybin retreats run by MycoMeditations in Jamaica. follow Shane www.shanemauss.com @shanecomedy ( twitter) @shanemausscomedy ( instagram )

Since Marcel Mauss published his foundational essay "The Gift" in 1925, many anthropologists and specialists of international relations have seen in the exchange of gifts, debts, loans, concessions or reparations the sources of international solidarity and international law. Still, Mauss's reflections were deeply tied to the context of interwar Europe and the French colonial expansion. Their normative dimension has been profoundly questioned after the age of decolonization. A century after Mauss, Grégoire Mallard, Professor Anthropology and Sociology at the Graduate Institute in Geneva, asks: what is the relevance of his ideas on gift exchanges and international solidarity? By tracing how Mauss's theoretical and normative ideas inspired prominent thinkers and government officials in France and Algeria, from Pierre Bourdieu to Mohammed Bedjaoui, Mallard's Gift Exchange: The Transnational History of a Political Idea (Cambridge University Press, 2019), adds a building block to our comprehension of the role that anthropology, international law, and economics have played in shaping international economic governance from the age of European colonization to the latest European debt crisis.
