When I first moved to London I had this friend who I would go to bars and clubs with. And, he was totally, 100% a friend of convenience. In fact, the only reason we spent any time together is because neither of us had any other friends. But I always look back on that friendship with a great deal of affection — and I think that one of the gifts of being queer is that you end up making friends with people you'd never otherwise meet, and that can open up your world in surprising ways. It can push you to do things you wouldn't have otherwise done, like going to places that you wouldn't choose to go to. Which brings us to this week's guest—Nick Baker is co-host of the Incomplete Geeks podcast, a show for all your gay geeky needs, from TV shows to comics. But many years ago he too was new to London and he too had a friendship of convenience, which led him to a club he wouldn't have gone to on his own. At the time he was into the fizzy, frothy pop of mainstream gay places like G-A-Y and Heaven, but this friendship exposed him to the much cooler Ghetto (honestly, I'm not exaggerating when I say that - if you speak to queers of a certain age in London, Ghetto was THE place to be). We here at ATTT HQ hope you aren't cooking up some hate mail for us in the wake of what happened in Classic Albums Worst To First : Revolver Part 1. Feelings were definitely hurt and toes were stepped on. However, we've decided that since we're now highlighting the best of the best in Part 2, no one shall be allowed to be butthurt by the Worst To First placements of the 7 songs making up the top half of our list. This is rarified air, to be in the top half of the songs on The Beatles all-time classic album Revolver. The song quality is off the charts, as we find Fab Four entering their prime in 1966. Whatever order you'd prefer, the songs of Revolver redefined what rock n roll could be. Thanks again to the great Shannon Hurley and 2 of our favorite people, Marina V and Nick Baker for a hilarious good time.If you missed our presentation of picks 14-8 in Part 1, get it here on Apple Podcasts or wherever you get yours:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/episode-623-classic-albums-worst-to-first-revolver/id573735994?i=1000660781993Nick and Marina are always working on new material and there's exciting stuff happening these days. Some call Revolver The Beatles at their peak, we know it at the very least as The Beatles at the beginning of their prime, when their music began to transcend all of pop culture, leaving the mop top era in the dust. 1966 was a banner year for music and of course the Fab Four were right there in the thick of it, innovating, expanding and creating some of the greatest music ever made. To celebrate this remarkable time, we thought it wise to put Revolver through the test track by track, and giving those songs the Classic Albums Worst To First treatment. We couldn't think of anyone we'd rather have joining us for this exercise than our good friends in the 'Nard aka Oxnard, CA - the delightful Marina V and Nick Baker, with an assist from the great Shannon Hurley. Feelings were hurt, toes were stepped on but it's all in good fun and it's our little way of celebrating this phenomenal piece of music. Sam Bankman-Fried's defense strategy in his trial is coming into focus as his legal team seeks to reframe the narrative around his actions at FTX. During the cross-examination of Caroline Ellison, the lead attorney, Mark Cohen, failed to establish his expected point that Ellison may have been more responsible for the collapse of FTX than his client, Sam Bankman-Fried. Cohen's questioning also did not significantly undermine Ellison's credibility, and he missed opportunities to delve into certain aspects of the case, ultimately leaving the defense's strategy unclear and raising questions about their ability to challenge the prosecution's narrative of Bankman-Fried's actions in taking funds from customers and investors.Link to story: SBF Trial: Defense Counsel's Cross-Examination of Star Prosecution Witness MeanderedSign up for The SBF Trial NewsletterCredits: Danny Nelson, Nick Baker, Nikhilesh De and Wondercraft AI VoiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In this second episode of The Wildlife Community Podcast, live from the Global Birdfair at Rutland Showground, Dan Rouse and Charlie Bingham were joined by well-loved naturalist, author and tv presenter, Nick Baker. Nick has been a true inspiration for many nature enthusiasts for the past few decades and Charlie and Dan jumped at the opportunity to sit down and get Nick's perspective on how exactly we can harness our curiosity and inspire the next generation of nature nerds. They took to the Whinchat stage in front of an audience of nature lovers of all ages, and had a chat about the importance of holding onto that childlike curiosity as we explore the world around us. We've left this chat largely unedited because we wanted to capture the true essence of the conversation and the fun of being on stage with a live audience. Don't forget to set your reminders for the third and final episode from Global Birdfair, where Charlie chats to two brothers who are taking the natural world to a community near you, with an immersive nature experience like no other….
We all chat about what we've enjoyed about Birdfair, Hares, ladybirds, Red Kites, Grass Snake poo and anal secretions….

Tara Milton - Five Thirty - in conversation with David Eastaugh Tara Milton and Nick Baker formed Five Thirty whilst still at school near Oxford in 1983. They met and recruited drummer Steve Beatty and played their first official gig in May 1984. This initial line-up played a number of gigs supporting bands like The Truth, Makin' Time and Direct Hits. Baker decided to leave the band in March 1985, and American replacement Shawn Gwin (formerly of the bands East Cambodia and The Numbers in New Orleans) was spotted advertising his services in the then popular weekly Phoenix List. They quickly recorded a demo of Gwin's songs "Weight of the World", "Catcher in the Rye", "Mood Suite" and "Suburban Town". After Gwin left to return to New Orleans (and before Paul Bassett took over the reins) Five Thirty released their demo on 12" vinyl "Catcher in the Rye", was also included on a compilation entitled The Cutting Edge, a mod revival vinyl record that also contained songs by Purple Hearts, The Blades and The Dansette. Paul Bassett took over on guitar and vocals after Gwin left. Eventually, the original drummer Steve Beatty was replaced by Keith McCubbin and finally Phil Hopper. This line-up (Milton/Bassett/Hopper) then signed to Atco/East West Records in 1990 and released four singles and one album, Bed

Once a month-ish, Lee Shackleford comes on to talk with Jonah about a 10-minute play. Both Lee and Jonah are playwrights, directors, and have produced short play festivals (Lee has done many more than Jonah). These discussions tap into not only the writing and storytelling, but also what goes through the mind of a producer when they read your play. The play in questions is Backyard/Blues by Nick Baker. Much of the conversation is about the information on the Character page, so I've pasted it here. CHARACTERS BRUCE: (Masc/60's/white) A recently retired CEO of a company his great grandfather started. FRANKLIN: (Masc/mid-late 30's/Black) Bruce's long time personal assistant who has been promoted to CEO after working closely with him for 12 years. POMEGRANATE: (Femme/50's/white) Bruce's wife. Has been fooling herself into believing in an empty, loveless marriage for far too long. SETTING A cozy backyard in suburban Massachusetts, USA. TIME July 4th, 2021 Notes for Consideration: - When a character's line reads “ … “ it marks a dramatic beat. This could be a rest, a moment of reflection, connection, regret, realization, humor, awkward tension; anything really. - If a line is bracketed with double parentheses on both sides ((like this)), it marks a character saying a line for themself. Can be an aside. Doesn't have to be heard by everybody. - Feel free to construct the house and porch with the cheapest materials possible. Everything about this set is flimsy and not built to last.
