Jahan Khamsehzadeh, Ph.D has spent two decades researching psychedelics in the context of both evolution and psychotherapy and says he “knows of no more powerful means of transforming consciousness than those that use the assistance of psychedelics.” In this in-depth and eye-opening discussion Jahan shares a pivotal psychedelic mystical experience. He presents key scientific research into the efficacy of psychedelic therapy for depression and other health issues, why modern Western culture has had such a legal and moral antagonism towards psychedelics and the emerging therapeutic landscape which integrates academia, science and traditional shamanism. He also gives context to microdosing with psilocybin mushrooms. ---Jahan's dissertation on psychedelics in the Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness program at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in San Francisco was later published as the book The Psilocybin Connection: Psychedelics, the Transformation of Consciousness, and Evolution of the Planet - An Integral Approach (North Atlantic Books, 2022). He graduated from the University of Arizona with a major in Philosophy and minors in both Physics and Psychology then going on to earn a master's in Consciousness and Transformative Studies from John F. Kennedy University. Additionally, Jahan has taken a comprehensive Hakomi somatic-psychotherapy training, assisted with the Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy Certificate training at CIIS for two years, mentored at the newly emerging School of Consciousness Medicine and trained in the Mazatec mushroom tradition. Currently, he works as a facilitator for legal psilocybin mushroom ceremonies in Jamaica with Atman Retreats, one of the few opportunities offered worldwide where people can legally experience psilocybin. www.psychedelicevolution.orgLiked what you heard? "If we can be with aging, we can also be with death. Right. Like, they go hand in hand. I feel like aging and death are sisters. They're sisters. One moves slow and one moves fast, but they walk on the same path." In this episode, Xochitl Kusikuy Ashe – a 5th generation Peruvian medicine woman and Ellen's mentor – shares about her relationship with death and how it has been a teacher in her life. Xochitl describes death as having sisters, which symbolize different aspects or ways in which death can occur. These sisters are metaphorical representations that help us understand death from various perspectives – the Sister of Aging, Sister of Illness, the Sister of Accidents, the Sister of Evil, the Sister of Suicide. And just as there are sisters of Death, so are there sisters of Life. These sisters are associated with support and embrace for death. They may represent the transformative power of death and the growth that can arise from experiencing loss. About Xochitl Xochitl Kusikuy Ashe has been a teacher and guide in one-and-one mentorships, workshops, and ceremonies both in the U.S and internationally for the last 27 years. At 16 years old she became the first female of five generations of men to be initiated into the healing traditions of her Peruvian ancestral lineage. She is a Medicine Woman in the Peruvian Andean tradition and has worked with sacred plant medicines since the time of her initiation. For the past 23 years she apprenticed under her Godfather, a Mazatec Medicine Man of the ancient tradition of healing with the "Nti-si tho" "Santitos" or Psilocybin mushrooms. She is a professionally trained herbalist, IFS Therapy Practitioner (Internal Family Systems) and specializes in the ceremonial use of Cacao and Psilocybin Mushrooms. In her practice, Xochitl focuses on the healing of generational trauma and the ways in which that trauma impairs our ability to thrive, create wealth, and have a positive impact on the world. Founder of Magical Medicine Journeys, an Indigenous women owned retreat company, that offers legal Mazatec Psilocybin Mushroom Retreats in Mexico. Xochitl's mission is to honor the traditional indigenous knowledge and ceremony of sacred plant medicine and provide the most authentic and powerful life changing experiences. She is faculty at Esalen Institute, The Microdosing Institute and the Shift Network. Learn more about Xochitl at Xochitlashe.com. Follow Xochitl on Instagram @xochitlashe. In episode 225 of "The Psychedelic Coach Podcast" titled "Uncertainty About Next Steps" with Tah, the discussion revolves around the importance of integration and taking actionable steps after a psychedelic experience. Tah emphasizes the significance of tracking and journaling as part of the integration process. He introduces a method of journaling that involves spending 10 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes in the evening to track thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Tah highlights the value of tracking, stating that without tracking, it becomes challenging to bring about change. Tah also discusses the need for structure in integration, suggesting that structured approaches can be helpful. He introduces the FREE Downloadable Condor Approach Integration Guide (Hardcopies also available on Amazon) for journaling and encourages listeners to engage in tracking and journaling to develop a clear plan for themselves, not only after psychedelic experiences but in various aspects of their lives. The importance of capturing nuances and exploring new possibilities that emerge from psychedelic experiences is emphasized. Tah emphasizes the role of writing down these insights and ideas, as they can easily be forgotten if not recorded. By having them in front of oneself on a day-to-day basis, it becomes possible to expand upon them and create an action plan that supports personal growth and transformation. The episode also discusses conducting a state assessment to understand one's thoughts, actions, and emotions in different situations. Tah explains the "oppression trap triangle" and how individuals can get stuck in limiting strategies and states. By identifying these patterns and utilizing strategies such as vision boards, setting milestones, and forming a life team of supportive individuals, individuals can create a clear strategy for moving forward and achieving personal goals. Additionally, Tah briefly touches upon the importance of nutrition and electrolyte balance after a psychedelic experience, suggesting the inclusion of quality fats and mindful water consumption. Overall, Tah emphasizes the importance of integration, tracking, journaling, and creating structured strategies to support personal growth and transformation after psychedelic experiences. Summary: In this episode of The Psychedelic Coach Podcast with host Tah, he discusses the critical role safety plays in the healing process. Without a sense of safety, the potential for full healing is limited or nonexistent. The concept of safety is something that is frequently talked about in the Condor Approach, the Psychedelic Informed Coaching program that teaches emotional navigation and communication. Tah explains that safety is also a nervous system dynamic. When a person doesn't feel safe, their nervous system puts the body into a position where it's on alert, which is not optimal for healing. The immune system gets dialed down when the body is on alert because the body doesn't need to fight off germs if it's trying to defend itself from an immediate, perceived threat. The body is optimized for healing when it is in a restful state, able to digest food, process information, mobilize proteins to replace damaged cells, and remove deformities. When the body is in this state, it is best equipped to build resilience and prepare for future movements. Safety is the freedom from hurt, harm, loss, deficit, injury, death, and pain. These are all indicators of violence in some form. Violence is not a good or bad thing, it's just a disruption to the sanctity of one's peace, which can lead to negative health outcomes. Tah emphasizes that safety is a moment of now thing, whereas security is a projection of safety in the future. Feeling secure about the future takes a person out of the moment of now, which can impede healing. Creating a sense of safety within oneself is crucial for psychedelic experiences as well. If a person doesn't feel safe, their nervous system will come online to protect, which can result in fight or flight responses. Overall, this episode stresses the importance of safety in the healing process, and Tah encourages listeners to prioritize creating a sense of safety within themselves to promote optimal healing and resilience. Strange and thought provoking episode today! In the 1940s, 50s, and early 60s, animal behavior researcher John B Calhoun ran a number of experiments on rodents regarding how their behavior would be affected by increased urbanization if all their basic needs were made. The results were terrifying. Crowded rats and mice became increasingly violent and lost their reproductive instincts to the point that eventually, the utopia went extinct after enduring a final phase full of random violent attacks, apathy, cannibalism and more. Could the increased urbanization of humanity also lead to our species' extinction as Calhoun warned? Or are we humans too different from rodents to presume that what happens to mice and rat would also happen to humans? I found today's episode one of the most thought provoking we've done in quite some time. Hope you do too!
