Ted Cruz, the esteemed Senator from Texas, recently spoke with Eric Bolling of Newsmax, bringing to the forefront the question of Mitch McConnell's role as Senate Minority Leader. Cruz has long questioned McConnell's leadership of the party from Kentucky and used this opportunity to advocate for a new figure to arise in the party hierarchy. 'Mitch has been a figure of some concern among us, given how long I have voiced my grievances about him,' Cruz explained to Bolling. 'The fact of the matter is, a lot of people are growing upset with the lack of traction in Washington, and Mitch's leadership is certainly under scrutiny.' Further in the conversation, Cruz dissected the recent complications around the border bill debated in Senate, describing it as a 'catastrophic mishandling'. According to him, the bill would regularize the influx of 5,000 undocumented immigrants per day while allocating taxpayer money to legal aid and work permits. Proudly, he claimed, 'The bill was flawed and I was at the forefront of the efforts to ensure it didn't go any further.'See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode, we are going to talk about my Top 5 Thoughts on How the New Senate Bill Concerns Public Adjusters . The new Senate Bill is live and kicking with major changes to the industry. I understand you are worried. I understand many of you will want to leave the restoration industry and do something else. However, it is crucial public adjusters understand what is going on and how it affects us before making big decisions. There are two major changes with a significant impact on the restoration industry.
The 2022 midterm election resulted in the so-called trifecta in state government, with the DFL in control of the Governor's office, the House of Representatives and the Senate. The makeup of the 2023 Senate is historic: Senator Bobby Joe Champion, DFL-Minneapolis, is the first person of color to be elected President of the Senate. Also for the first time, women make up of the majority in the DFL caucus, and Black women are represented. Newly-elected Senator Zaynab Mohamed, DFL-Minneapolis, is also the first Somali woman, the youngest woman and the first of Generation Z to join the Senate. President Champion and Senator Mohamed join Capitol Report moderator Shannon Loehrke to talk about their new roles. Also in the program, highlights from a Senate floor debate over whether remote voting should continue post-pandemic, and DFL leaders outline some of their shared priorities for the coming legislative session.

On Dec. 6, Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock won a special runoff election in Georgia against Republican candidate Herschel Walker. Warnock's victory gives Democrats a slim, but solid, majority of 51 to 49 in the Senate. The new majority allows Democrats to control everything from investigations and oversight to key legislation and committee placements. Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema's announcement that she will register as a political Independent is unlikely to impact the power balance in the next Senate. The Democratic majority already includes two Independents who caucus with them, Senators Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Angus King of Maine. To unpack the many implications of Warnock's win, we had Andy Wright, a member of Just Security's Editorial Board and partner at the law firm K&L Gates in Washington, D.C. Andy is an expert on Congressional oversight and previously served in senior legal roles at the White House and on Congressional committees. Talk about walking into a tough situation. Before the shattered windows were swept up in the January attack on the Capitol, the sergeants at arms of both the House and Senate, and the chief of the Capitol Police were all gone. Solving the long-term security issues for the Capitol falls to a new crew. For one view of what's ahead, Federal Drive with Tom Temin turned to one member of that crew, the new Senate Sergeant at Arms Ret. Army Lt. Gen. Karen Gibson.

The Senate Intelligence Committee released a nearly 1,000 page report on Tuesday, detailing Russia’s interference in the 2016 election. The report describes President Donald Trump’s campaign advisors as having extensive contact with Russian intelligence officials during the 2016 election. Trump’s former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, was said to have had the most extreme link with Russian intelligence. Homeland security expert Juliette Kayyem spoke with Boston Public Radio on Wednesday about this new report. “The substance of it is more damning than the Mueller Report because it shows, and more than implies, the direct relationship with Manafort and senior leaders in the Russian intelligence agency,” she said. Kayyem is an analyst for CNN, former assistant secretary at the Department of Homeland Security and faculty chair of the homeland security program at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.
