Community Matters caught up with one half of the Downtown Battle Creek Zine team, journalist Nick Buckley, to talk about the February 2025 issue in which they tout some of the downtown Battle Creek ongoing developments. Some of those include the river naturalization project. Though it won't be finished in 2025, progress is expected. Ongoing efforts to bring more housing to the downtown area, as well as a new downtown market are among the other notable developments to watch.Episode ResourcesDowntown Battle Creek ZineABOUT COMMUNITY MATTERSFormer WBCK Morning Show host Richard Piet (2014-2017) returns to host Community Matters, an interview program focused on community leaders and newsmakers in and around Battle Creek. The Hunt Quietly team conducted in-depth research into NWTF over the last several months. This research uncovered widespread problems with their reporting. NWTF grossly overreports the acres they conserve and the dollars they devote to their mission. Evan Curtin, Nick Buckley, and Matt Rinella explain all of this and try to determine if these problems stem from corruption, incompetence, or both. Hunt Quietly recommends against donating to organizations that do hunter recruitment, and NWTF does lots of that. And in the case of NWTF, there are many additional reasons for Americans to spend their precious conservation dollars elsewhere. A sincere thanks to David Fontenot, Chris Brewer, and Thomas Doyle for assisting with research for this episode.

In this episode of "Thoughts from Soviet Britain", I have a special guest with me, Nick Buckley (MBE). We talk about the OnlyFans mess that certain feminists keep supporting, and when one of the so-called OnlyFans Models decide to have sex with 100 men in one and film it, they are still unable to have that woman take personal responsibility for her actions. Somehow it is the sole fault of men - and those men who participated in this mess created by this OnlyFans prostitute must be arrested and put in jail - as suggested by Julie Bindel. No mention of Lily the OnlyFans Prossie actually putting out application forms, putting this on platform and earning money from it, and then going through with this act. And then later suggesting she wants to do 1000 men in one day. No apparently for feminists, women have both agency and don't have agency, they can make decisions for themselves but not held responsible for the consequences. Strange. This is world we are living in now. If you criticise feminism for promoting harm to women disguised as independence then you are a misogynist. My guest this week is Nick Buckley, the Co-founder and Commercial Director at fragrance & beauty distribution company, Phoenix Beauty.Sales & distribution is a key part of the industry and a company like Phoenix Beauty acts as the bridge between the brands, the retailers and us as the end-consumers. Much of the work goes on behind the scenes, but it was fascinating to spend some time with Nick where he shed light on how some of the process works - the retail exclusive products, working with ‘celebrity' brands, the cost of doing business and the current market trends.Phoenix Beauty distribute a wide range of brands from the designer fragrances (Banana Republic, Steve Madden) celebrity fragrances/beauty (Eilish, by Billie Eilish, Florence by Mills) and niche brands (including bdk, Goldfield & Banks, Les Eaux Primordiales, Jusbox etc) Many of the brands and the founders have featured on the podcast over the years, so it's definitely worth going back and revisiting some of those episodes! In the episode Nick mentioned the following products in his routine:Temple Spa - Cleanser, Truffle Moisturiser, Eye Creamhttps://www.templespa.com/shopAlmora Botanica - Cleanserhttps://almorabotanica.com/collections/cleanserBdk - Gris Charnel Extraithttps://www.harrods.com/en-gb/shopping/bdk-parfums-gris-charnel-extrait-de-parfum-100ml-18178727Les Eaux Primordiales - Ambre Superfluidehttps://www.harrods.com/en-gb/shopping/les-eaux-primordiales-ambre-supermassive-perfume-extrait-50ml-24219840Goldfield & Banks - Bohemian Limehttps://www.selfridges.com/GB/en/product/goldfield-banks-bohemian-lime-perfume-concentrate-100ml_R03649248/Jusbox - Cheeky Smilehttps://www.selfridges.com/GB/en/product/jusbox-cheeky-smile-eau-de-parfum-78ml_496-3004815-6711E101/NOYZ - Monochromehttps://www.harrods.com/en-gb/shopping/noyz-x-damon-baker-monochrome-parfum-50ml-23921760Ojar - Wood Whisperhttps://www.harrods.com/en-gb/shopping/ojar-wood-whisper-eau-de-parfum-100ml-19164596You can find out more about Phoenix Beauty here:https://www.phoenixbeauty.co.uk/On Instagram at:https://www.instagram.com/phoenixbeautyltd/You can ‘tip' me via the link below. Nick Buckley is a rarity in Britain. He is an independent thinker that wants to bring local political change with common sense policies. He stood as a candidate for Reform in the Mayor of Manchester Election four years ago but now stands as an independent in the upcoming election in May. We start by discussing Nick's background, born and raised in Manchester, which is the 3rd largest urban area in England after London and Birmingham. For well over a decade Nick ran a charity to deal with homelessness and to help offer solutions. He shares why he has entered the world of Politics, how he has seen the police in Manchester become completely ineffective and crime rise and rise. This all falls under the jurisdiction of the Mayor of Manchester and the current Labour offering, Andy Burnham, has simply failed to address this. Nick's story is an example of how anyone can enter politics and try to make a difference as an independent voice. Nick was cancelled in June 2020 from the multi award-winning charity he founded when online activists came for him for criticising Black Lives Matter. The trustees panicked, allowing Nick to be removed from his post. Within five weeks, Nick had forced the trustees to resign en-mass, and took back his role as chief executive. To mark the launch of our new book "Fighting Back: Defending Britain & The West in the Culture War", we present a special edition of #SWYSI that brings together 3 inspiring people who refused to bow down to the institutions that tried to penalise, suppress or fire them for expressing their views. We hope their tales serve to give hope and inspiration to others out there who may encounter similar experiences. Harry Miller won a legal challenge against a national policy for police forces to record gender-critical views as non-crime "hate incidents". Humberside Police visited Harry Miller in January 2020 after a complaint over alleged transphobic tweets he made. It was recorded on a national database as a non-crime hate incident. But the Court of Appeal ruled on Monday the guidance was wrongly used and it had a "chilling effect" on Mr Miller's freedom of speech. Amy Gallagher is suing the Portman Clinic in north London, part of The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, claiming discrimination on the basis of race, religion and philosophical belief. She believes the NHS is forcing racist ideology on students by promoting critical race theory in its classes. She objected to a lecture entitled “whiteness – a problem of our time” in October 2020, where attendees were forced to confront “the reality of white privilege” and in another race lecture the following month, she was told that “Christianity is racist because it is European” by a talk leader. Mon Ami, Hercule Poirot is on the scene!'Peril At End House' by Agatha Christie is a whodunnit crime story that will leave you guessing until the very end. Nick Buckley has 3 close calls with death before her cousin Maggie is killed in her place. Fortunately Poirot and Hastings are available to investigate the crime and untangle the weave of seemingly incomprehensible events.I summarised the book as follows. "I found this mystery quite fun despite the morbid nature of the crime. It's the perfect length for me & satisfied my OCD of wrapping up everything neatly in a bow. A book like this could be a 10/10 for others but I typically want something more out of the box with new concepts or ideas for my general reading. Nevertheless, it's an amusing problem to try and solve."I hope you have a fantastic day wherever you are in the world. A year after being fired by his own charity for criticizing Black Lives Matter, Nick Buckley MBE returns to the #SWYSI sofa to discuss his new book: Lessons In Courage: How I Fought Back Against Cancel Culture and Won. In Lessons in Courage, Buckley argues that in our febrile cultural climate we increasingly need people to be courageous and to do what is right, not what is convenient or acceptable to fashionable ideologues. Buckley sets out a series of lessons learned throughout his life, not having realized that he was in training for a life-defining battle. These are the tough but inspiring lessons he wants to offer the next person to face an angry and intolerant mob and to others who self-censor or hold back for fear of drowning in turbulent waters. CSP 17-Episode on Challenging the Norm to Effectively Tackle Anti-Social Behaviour The predicament of anti-social behaviours is not something you turn your back on. Anti-social behaviours have a huge impact not just on individuals, but also in the families and the communities. Today's episode explores the deep-rooted causes of anti-social behaviour and how Nick Buckley MBE, through the Mancunian Way, established a way to alleviate it.About Nick BuckleyNick Buckley MBE worked as youth intervention officer and as a Community Safety Coordinator with the Manchester City Council. In 2011, Nick's role was terminated due to budget cuts.He decided to take his severance pay and established a charity called the Mancunian Way which works to reduce anti-social behaviour by prevention and intervention. The charity was recognized as the Community Project of the Year last 2015.Key TakeawaysWhen you accept your flaws, you're no longer susceptible to people's judgments or opinions of you.Every action has a corresponding consequence.Children will want to please adults in terms of their behaviours and it's important to tap into that.Children need advice, guidance, and boundaries.Addressing the issue of anti-social behaviour has to be about changing behaviours and perceptions of the young people instead of just relying on entertainment.Improving the community will improve lives holistically. There's no such thing as one size fits all—every child should be given a choice especially in their education.Personal responsibility is a must.Having a good partnership is beneficial for improving lives.Time-Stamped Show Highlights[00:00:35] Getting to know our astounding guest[00:02:11] Who is Nick and what makes him commendable[00:06:32] How Nick overcame his stutter and flaws“I was always the first person to take the mickey out of me. Hvordan prøver man nye læbestifter under Corona?

John Harvey Kellogg was a walking contradiction. A religious fanatic and a man of science. A racist and a philanthropist. A man so obsessed with wellness, he paid no mind to how many died in his care, so long as it furthered his studies. A health fanatic with a creative mind, Dr. Kellogg invented machines designed for treatment that were better suited for a medieval torture chamber. But just how did a promising young prodigy become America's most infamous mad doctor?
