Welcome to another episode of I AM THE NIGHT, a podcast dedicated to breaking down every episode of Batman: The Animated Series. Each week, the wonderful Steve J Ray (reviewer at DC Comics News, as well as Editor-in-Chief of our sister site Dark Knight News) and a guest will sit down and dive cowl first into an episode of the greatest animated series of all time. In this episode, Steve is joined by fellow DCN and DKN writer, and his son, Adam Ray to talk about the fourteenth episode of season one of Batman: TAS, entitled "Heart of Ice". So sit back, put on your cape and cowl, and prepare yourself for a journey into the darkness! Episode Synopsis: Bitter scientist Victor Fries, aka Mr. Freeze, attacks several divisions of GothCorp, each time stealing a piece for a secret weapon he intends to build. Batman investigates the connections, and discovers that the start of Freeze's vendetta against GothCorp was a bitter falling out between Fries and GothCorp's CEO, Ferris Boyle (Mark Hamill), during which Boyle almost killed Fries (mutating him into Freeze) and presumably killed Fries' terminally ill wife, Nora. Batman must find a way to bring Boyle to justice before Freeze carries out his revenge. Someone has been running around in a Green Arrow costume, attacking people. The members of Team Arrow are powerless to stop him if they want to maintain their secret identities. And, of course, Ricardo Diaz is coming back to town with an eye on payback and making sure Oliver pays for defeating him last season. https://www.cbr.com/arrow-season-7-trailer-heroes-in-prison/ Arrow Season 7: Shadowhunters' Katherine McNamara Joins Cast (Date: 21 Sept 2018) TVLine has learned exclusively that the actress is joining Arrow in a pivotal recurring role. According to sources, McNamara will appear during the first half of Season 7 as Maya, a scrappy street fighter and thief from Star City. The initial — and unofficial — casting notice for the character likened the character to “Buffy the Superhero Slayer.” https://tvline.com/2018/09/21/katherine-mcnamara-arrow-season-7-cast-maya/ Arrowverse Finds Its Lois Lane in Grimm Star (Date: 14 Sept 2018) The CW has cast Grimm star Elizabeth Tulloch to play the Daily Planet ace reporter in this December's three-show crossover between Supergirl, The Flash and Arrow. Previously, Tulloch played Juliette Silverton/Eve across all six seasons of Grimm. Her past credits also include Portlandia, The West Wing, The Artist, Parkland, Concussion and more. https://www.cbr.com/arrowverse-lois-lane-elizabeth-tulloch/ Arrowverse Casting Confirms Gotham City as Crossover Location (Date: 20 Sept 2018) Lost and Justified veteran Jeremy Davies will play Dr. John Deegan, a doctor at the notorious Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane, whose machinations draw Green Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl to Gotham. Although Gotham, the traditional stomping grounds of Batman, has been referenced on Arrow, DC's Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl, this will be the first time it's actually shown on the Arrowverse dramas. Fans are still left to wonder whether this is the Gotham on Earth One, home of Green Arrow and The Flash, or Earth-38, inhabited by Supergirl. While the introduction in the crossover of Batwoman, played by Ruby Rose, led to speculation that Gotham might finally make its debut — the city is even referenced in the character description — this is the first confirmation. https://www.cbr.com/arrowverse-crossover-gotham-city/ Arrowverse Crossover Adds Cassandra Jean Amell as Nora Fries (Date: 14 Sept 2018) The CW has just cast Cassandra Jean Amell (yes, the wife of Arrow star Stephen) in the role of Nora Fries. If that name sounds familiar to you, it's because Nora is the wife of Victor Fries, also known as the Batman villain Mister Freeze. No details were provided as to whether Amell's version of the character will be alive and well or in cryostasis at the time of her introduction. The customary character description was not provided, either, leaving the nature of her role (and presumably her husband's) a mystery. https://comicbook.com/dc/2018/09/14/arrowverse-crossover-adds-cassandra-jean-amell-as-nora-fries/ Arrowverse Crossover Casts The Monitor, Hints Elseworlds Will Be a Crisis (Date: 26 Sept 2018) The CW announced Designated Survivor star LaMonica Garrett has been cast as Mar Novu, “an extraterrestrial being of infinite power known as the Monitor,” in the Arrowverse's upcoming Elseworlds crossover. In the comics, the Monitor was essential to Crisis on Infinite Earths. Created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez in 1982's The New Teen Titans #21, the character was established to set up the events of Crisis. He is billions of years old, born as the living embodiment of the universe's positive matter; as such, he is the natural enemy of the Anti-Monitor, a being of anti-matter. The highly-anticipated crossover will air over three nights, starting on Sunday, Dec. 9 through Tuesday, Dec. 11. https://www.cbr.com/arrowverse-elseworlds-monitor-crisis/ Stephen Amell's First Arrowverse Crossover BTS Photo Teases New Costume (Date: 14 Sept 2018) The big Arrowverse crossover can't get here soon enough, and a new behind the scenes photo from Stephen Amell reveals he might be getting a new costume for it. The new photo shows Amell in the makeup chair, but he is sporting some bright green gel on his chest, neck, and face. It seems he is getting fitted for a mold, so now the question is what the new mask and suit will look like. He posted it with the caption "Officially started work on the crossover today." https://comicbook.com/dc/2018/09/14/stephen-amell-arrowverse-crossover-bts-photo-costume/ GENERAL DC NEWS: Legends of Tomorrow Introduces More Misfits in New Trailer (Date: 26 Sept 2018) The trailer starts off with John Constantine (Matt Ryan) telling White Canary (Caity Lotz) to get ready for a new fight because “the darkness… it's rising,” which transitions into shots of what appear to be the Salem witch trials. The trailer then reveals that the team's composition will be changing. There's also fan-favorite Time Bureau Agent Gary Green (Adam Tsekhman) naked and claiming he's an “intern Legend,” a fairy godmother and a unicorn shooting a rainbow mist from its horn. https://www.cbr.com/legends-of-tomorrow-more-misfits-trailer/ Dominic Purcell Defends 'Legends of Tomorrow' as Not Being the Joke of the Arrowverse (Date: 22 Sept 2018) Purcell, who plays Mick Rory/Heatwave on the series which will debut its fourth season next month, took to Instagram on Saturday, sharing why he's proud to be part of Legends as well as why he's no longer accepting the show being treated like a "joke". "First season of @cw_legendsoftomorrow sucked," Purcell wrote. "We had to change it drastically. The writers, the creative team changed its course with a genius master stroke. Let's have fun with it!!!! ....Now we have a show that embraces the absurdity of the farce and the brilliant nature of its theme." "No longer will I accept this [slight] utterance that Legends is the in house joke that we are the ugly step sister in the @dccomics @warnerbrostv #arrowverse tv sh*t," Purcell wrote. "I know for a fact we are not seen as that within the corporate structure. So shut the f*ck up. We good. We handling our sh*t, we good. We family. We delivering." https://comicbook.com/dc/2018/09/23/legends-of-tomorrow-not-arrowverse-joke-dominic-purcell/ NEXT EPISODE Link to Promo: (Date: 26 March 2018) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sS4oNdZk9o0 Episode: “Guest Starring John Noble” [Season 3 Episode 17] Air Date: Monday, April 2, 2018 Summary: The Legends must fix two anachronisms at the same time to keep Mallus at bay and form an uneasy alliance with one of their enemies. Welcome to Episode 133 of Broadcast Geeks! On this podcast we discuss all things geek and nerd related, provided our DVR's have space and our Netflix accounts are our own and none others. This week the Geeks (Mitch, Nate, Jake and Matt Orrin) recorded at the Sexpot Comedy Studios, located above the awesome Mutiny Information Cafe, for another packed episode of geeky goodness. The conversation always seems to come back to Batman. We brought up the Dark Knight multiple times on this episode, in different contexts. I guess with him exposing himself in comics, he is BIG news! Though you might see the Bat-dong in comics, you definitely won't see it in the new Titans show coming to our new favorite streaming service, DC Universe. However, it appears that Batman will appear in the show and we saw pics of his potential suit. We're excited for Titans, especially since we know that Dick Grayson meets Jason Todd. Can there be two simultaneous Robins in the Bat-world? Speaking of Batman (see??), we've been watching more of Batman: Brave and the Bold. That show is awesome, as is Diedrich Bader's voice work. The format of the show and the characters really make it excel. Is it as good as the Animated Series? Some would say it is, but in a different way. BTW, you can catch Batman:TAS on DC Universe in HD, along with a bunch of really cool stuff. We talked more about the old Flash show and then into which is our favorite Flash? Do you prefer Barry Allen on the CW, Wally West from the Justice League cartoon, or even Wally from Young Justice? There are many to choose from in the Multiverse...what's YOUR choice? Our TV shows are coming back soon, with Gifted already out. Things are getting hot on that show, and we suspect they might do a House of M type situation. It also seems that the Dad is getting his powers back and, since he is a Von Strucker, he could be pretty powerful. The CW shows are back in October, and the this year's crossover, called Elseworlds, sounds like it will be AMAZING!! We should see Batwoman, Lois Lane, and Superman and Nora Fries (wife of Dr. Freeze)! Stay tuned for that to drop in early December. Looking for good shows to binge on Netflix? American Vandal sounds real good, and Jake speaks highly of it especially the second season. The first season is about a film crew solving the mystery of a vandal that draws dicks everywhere, and the second season is about the Mad Pooper, someone who commits a prank that forces the whole school to have bad diarrhea at the same time causing a panic. Maybe they did it for revenge? Watch to find out. Speaking of revenge, Nate talks about Mandy, the new Nicholas Cage film. He highly recommends it. If you havent already checked out Denver Open Media, and what they have offered then go to https://www.denveropenmedia.org As you might already know, we'll be on Tuesday nights at 10pm. ep 43: Jim and Eric get together on Halloween Night, but kind of ignore that fact to talk about DC Comics as usual. They go over all the DC Comics News, Comic books and even get to talk about Vic Sage's porn addiction, Mythbrawl and why Batman is the most selfish god of them all. While they may not be huge fans of every book they talk about, they keep it real like the Man of Steel. I'm not sure what that means, but I like the sound of it!DC Comics Reviewed this episode: Batman and Robin Eternal #4, We are Robin #5, Grayson #13, Justice League Darkseid War: Batman #1, Batgirl #45, Black Magick #1, Superman #45, The Flash #45, Cyborg #4, Aquaman #45, New Suicide Squad #13, Sinestro #16, Deathstroke #11Flash Comic Book Reviews: Prez #5, All-Star Section Eight #5, Gotham by Midnight #10, He-Man and the Eternity War #11, Justice League 3001 #5, Robin: Son of Batman #5DC Comics Comic Book News: Cullen Bunn quits Aquaman because of Eric, Rupert Grint in NBC Superhero pilot, Gotham casts Mr. Freeze, Gotham casts Nora Fries, Chris Pine confirms he is in the Wonder Woman MovieClick HERE to check us out on iTunes and be sure to give us a quick reviewIf you want to send us mail, send it to weirdsciencedccomics@gmail.com and remember, we will read EVERY one on the podcast. Keywords: Comics, Comic Books, Comic Book Podcast, Comics Podcast, Batman, Superman, DC Comics, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Podcast, Comic Book, superhero, superhero podcast, DCU, DC YOU
