Step aside Elon. Lex Luthor is here. He is badass and out to save the planet. It's an interesting contrast really. Elon Musk has his sights set on colonies on Mars and continuing to aggressively exploit the resources of earth in service to that, and other goals. On the other hand, the supervillain that most Americans and much of the world know as Lex Luthor, the nemesis of Superman, may be turning over a new leaf. "May be" is the operative phrase though. Nevertheless you can't help but notice that Luthor's bottom line is saving the planet that we currently call home rather than hastening a move into the cosmos.

EPISODE 8 - A Sharped Dressed Man - “They Are A Little Sweaty”Greetings Super friends! Welcome to Superman & Lois & Pals. I'm Henry Bernstein and alongside me is my favorite super pal, Professor Sam Brody. Let's talk about Superman & Lois Season 4, Episode 8 - A Sharp Dressed ManDirected by:Michael Kudlitz (Lex Luthor)Written By:Brent Fletcher and Todd HelbingThe Apple TV and Imdb description is: Luthor challenges Lois to a live telecast debate, though not everything is as it seems; John Henry and Clark face a troubling possibility.Henry's Notes:Luthor doing an interview, fitted for suit and CLEAN SHAVEN. He looks like Lex Luthor. Great revealMilton reference again. “After today the whole world will be on your side” with a Luthor smileSo the DOD hangs out at his house which is different than usual? So now Clark doesn't wear the glasses and I miss it!Cancer call back. “They are a little sweaty”This is really good. Not just pretending this story never happened. THis is what really happens in families dealing with Cancer.YAY!!! Lois is Cancer free. BAZOOMBAS is back! Why haven't Nat and John Henry cleaned up their bunker?Yes! Steel covering for Superman. That's how it's supposed to go! I love seeing Steel not just blast things but actually rescue someone. TOM CAVANAGH IS G GORDON GODFREY!!!!!!This is amazing. My absolute favorite guy. This is great that Luthor is going on tv and spinning/lying. This is so classic. I love this. Oh my god, even spinning why he brought Lexcorp to Smallville. Clark is right trying to get Lois not take the bait. I like that he had a solution and not just a don't do it. “Let's go to the office”“Now that everybody knows I can fly”Candice broke up with Jonathan and my reaction was “haha good.”While I don't care that much about Candice, the reason she broke up with Jonathan makes sense. But I definitely don't care about a rom-com last second confession of love“I'm the Costanza of relationships”So Amanda is in love with Lex. There's precedence for unrequited love with Lex. I'm dying to know who MILTON is. At this point they won't stop talking about Milton. “Feels like we're working in a fishbowl”What do you think about Lois' thing being not only the spelling thing but she swears in her writing?“We flew here together”  Interesting that Clark is losing his hearing.Do you think the series will end with Clark losing all his powers, being a regular guy and the boys taking over?Oh that's really interesting that he has heart disease. Clark now has basically what Lois had last season. Is Luthor just absolutely disgusted with humanity? Or does he have some heightened senses or something? His spidey sense is tingling.Do Lois and Amanda have history?Love hearing Tom Cavanagh say, “Superman, Superman”I love that he did the glasses bit. Lois is on defense, this is a set up duh. “I think the circumstances speak for themselves”Why are they obsessed with Jaimie Kennedy the mid-2000s comedian who maybe also had a prank show?“It's being a carnival barker”Brainiac time baby. Now we're getting into the endgame. Will we get the full blown version? It's kind of weird that we've never seen this guy before and now he's an ultimate mastermind. This is an amazing action sequence. Love the heat vision from both sides. That was nutsSuperman keeps his wedding ring on now. Nice touch. Confirmed and canonical in this show that the ONLY way they got news about Superman was from Lois?Damn, Godfrey just made an enemy in Lois Lane. Sexy LexyLex Luthor ISN'T a computer genius“Mr. Gorman from our world” - That's a GUS GORMAN reference from Superman III. God I love this show.So Superman, is “terminal.”Great shot of the family together at the tableIf Milton is going to be taken seriously, we've gotta get some back story and motivation.“Now that's a killer suit” - they better paint it green and purple otherwise what's the point. Is Superman dying or is it that his powers are failing? EPISODE 6 - When the Lights Come On - “Stop Worrying About Your Hair”Greetings Super friends! Welcome to Superman & Lois & Pals. I'm Henry Bernstein and alongside me is my favorite super pal, Professor Sam Brody. Let's talk about Superman & Lois Season 4, Episode 6 - When The Lights Come OnDirected by:Ian SamoilWritten By:Kristi Korzec (Teleplay)Brent Fletcher (Story)The Apple TV and Imdb description is: Luthor plans to move LuthorCorp to Smallville, but finds opposition in Lana; Sarah faces a difficult decision; Clark confronts Luthor face-to-face.HENRY'S NOTES:Luthor temper tantrum. I dunno, I know this was supposed to seem intense but it was just silly to me and it made me laugh.Luthor confirms he has an endgame as he gazes on the GazetteFun that Jon is doing the superhero thing and I like that mom and dad finally told Jordan to get a jobSalt and Pepper patch in his hair (Love that) - it's funny because Tyloer has a lot of gray in his beard and it looks awesome. Do you think this is a Superman thing or a regular middle aged vanity thing? Interesting that he's concerned about Superman going gray when every comic book reader knows he looks great with some grayLuthor vs Gretchen is a great face offFunny that Jon has the Wally West eating thing. Especially because traditionally Superman doesn't need to eat. Ok so now the coach knows the secret and it's played for comedy? But “Aidy” knows too. They're definitely going for the “town knows and is protecting him” thing. Lois and Clark don't even seem that concerned.I'm starting to come around on it because of the way the town is reacting to Luthor.Lana going toe to toe with Luthor is A+I take exception to Sara calling Luthor a “bald headed loser” as if those two things were connected. To quote Larry David, “that's a hate crime, we're a group.”Sara wants to go abroad in high school? I mean not unheard of but seems odd. Nice Varsity Blues referenceLana getting beat up by Luthor is spot on. Love that Sarah fucked Otis up with a baseball bat. Good idea Kyle putting bats under beds.Clark vs Lex, let's go. Lex grabbed a red sun inhibitor. Good idea. Unhinged Tyler is new and I love seeing this range from him. Let's go Clark. Beat his ass. Who taught Clark how to fight?! I'm sorry that was a really cool fight scene. Loved seeing that side of Clark/Tyler.Full Mortal CombatHas Sarah ever flown with the boys before?“Get you a killer suit” with a great pull out shot and tease of the Lexcorp building.  Follow us on twitter at https://x.com/SupermanPalsPod!Check out a video version of this episode at https://www.youtube.com/@gonzo3249! This week on Superman: The Animated Podcast, I talk about S02E21 – Prototype. LexCorp and John Henry Irons design a powerful prototype armor suit for the Metropolis SCU, which Lex hopes will make Superman’s services unneeded. The SCU officer who pilots the suit, Sergeant Mills, proves a useful partner to Superman at first, but the suit soon corrupts the officer’s mind, making him violently unstable. Irons is discouraged over the failure of his project, but Superman convinces him that it would be a valuable tool if Irons can find a way to stabilize it. Batman V Superman was an incredibly divisive film. People tend to love it or hate it, and always with passion. I'm excited to look back on this movie as part of my journey through the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Love it or hate it, there's one thing we can all agree on with this movie - there's plenty to talk about. So much, in fact, that I had to split this discussion into two podcasts. So today we cover part 1, up until the explosion in the senate building. Next week (yes, just one week) we'll continue with the rest of the film. ----more---- Transcript   Welcome to Nerd Heaven I’m Adam David Collings, the author of Jewel of The Stars And I am a nerd This is episode 28 of the podcast Today I’m continuing my look at the DC extended universe with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. And I am, of course, talking about the ultimate edition.Because what other version would you watch?   The description on IMDB reads Fearing that the actions of Superman are left unchecked, Batman takes on the Man of Steel, while the world wrestles with what kind of a hero it really needs. The movie was written by Chris Terrior and David S. Goyer. It was directed by Zach Snyder And it first released on the 23rd of March 2016.   As always, this podcast contains full spoilers for the movie, So let’s talk about Batman v superman   The poetic voiceover that opens the movie tells us right away that this is going to be a more literary movie than we might have been expecting. This movie starts in a familiar place. With the murder of Bruce wayne’s parents. As all movies that introduce a new Batman do. While we’ve seen this many times before, this was totally the right way to start. Because this moment in Bruce’s life is what this movie, thematically, is all about.   The intercutting between the murder itself and Bruce running away during the funeral and finding the cave beneath his family’s estate, while the incredible music by Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL plays, is very very effective. Yes, just like the last one, this movie has an incredible soundtrack.   As young Bruce is carried upward by the bats, it’s clear that this is very symbolic. Another indication that this is going to be a deeper movie than the average popcorn superhero flick.   Bruce is carried upward toward the light, a light that he refers to as a beautiful lie. Perhaps because Bruce lives his life in darkness and isn’t really capable of believing that there is any light in this world.   Then we jump forward to the climactic battle during Man of Steel, and see those terrible events from Bruce Wayne’s perspective, which I think was a truly inspired choice. And already, I’m loving this version of Bruce Wayne. This is a Billionaire CEO who runs headlong into danger because his employees are at risk. He cares about his people. Having seen so many examples of the stereotypical evil business manager, I love this!  This scene is an important counterpoint to the equivalent scene in Man of Steel, because we get to see it all happen from the perspective of a normal person, well, as normal as Bruce Wayne can be. He’s seeing an alien invasion. He’s seeing two inhuman creatures of incredible power having a fight which is destroying the city. Brue is seeing the human cost firsthand. He’s seeing the ordinary people that are getting hurt as a consequence of the conflict between Kal-El and Zod. Man of Steel did a good job of demonstrating consequences, but this scene takes it orders of magnitude further. Seriously, the devastation of this attack must have bankrupted the economy of Metropolis. Bruce is truly heroic. And he comes within millimetres of death when he dives under the falling metal to save that little girl. When he asks her where her mum is, and she points up at the destroyed building, Our hearts break.   But as Bruce looks up, from the rubble of the destroyed lives, he sees those two aliens, still gripped in battle, smashing through buildings, his eyes burn with righteous anger. Earth never asked for these aliens to come here. Look at all the devastation they’ve caused. But we see that devastation most strongly, not in the skyscrapers, one after another that continue to fall, but in the eyes of one little girl who will never again see her mother. This is powerful stuff. And I have to say that Ben Affleck’s acting is wonderful in this moment. That look he gives Superman and Zod. It says so much. A lot of people were concerned about Ben Affleck playing Batman. This is nothing new. People seem to doubt every new actor that gets announced to play Batman. Well, it didn’t take long for Mr. Affleck to put aside people’s doubts. He was a fantastic Bruce Wayne, and he was a fantastic Batman. But we’ll talk more about that as we move through the story.   18 months later. It’s not surprising that the wreckage of the world engine in the Indian Ocean would be an area of great interest to tourists. Especially divers. But also to those hoping to find advanced technology. And that’s how we are introduced to Kryptonite. There was some present on the ship. Makes sense. This alien mineral probably played an important part in the terraforming process, or maybe it powered the ship.   Now we’re in Nairomi Africa. And we meet the DCEU’s version of Jimmy Olsen. He’s not in the movie for long. In fact, his identity was never even established in the theatrical cut, but I had my suspicions.    This is a very different take on Jimmy. We quickly learn that he’s not just a photographer. He’s actually a CIA agent.    There is a civil war in this country. America is neutral. But men of power obey neither policy or principal, the terrorist leader says. No one is neutral.   Jimmy is discovered. He’s here to propose something to the terrorists, but before he can make his offer, he’s shot. So much for Jimmy Olsen. You couldn’t dream up a more unconventional version of the character. I did notice Jimmy’s absence from Man of Steel. I wonder if they thought he just didn’t fit in with this more serious version of Superman. I mean, the problem with Jimmy is, he’s even more nerdy than Clark. This version is a tough as nails spy. I don’t mind that change, but I’d have liked to have seen a lot more of him.   Apparently, the Americans were planning an attack on these terrorists, but the surviving guys on the ground are trying to call it off because there are civilians in the area. Not just Lois, but locals. This whole sequence is an exciting way to re-introduce us to Lois, and show us just how tough she is, and maybe how fearless, even reckless, she’s becoming since she met Superman, but it is very important to the story later on. The teactrical cut majorly dropped the ball on this. So much was lost that none of it made sense.   For some reason, the attack wasn’t called off, but Superman prevents the missile, saving Lois and the other civilians in the area.   But in saving these innocents, Superman allowed the terrorists to live. And a lot of other innocents got killed in the crossfire of the subsequent battle. A woman named Kahina Ziri is raising awareness of this.   Senator Finch says, The world has been so caught up with what Superman can do, nobody has asked what he should do. And that’s a very valid question.   She’s holding Superman responsible for these deaths. He took it upon himself to intervene in this situation, but did his actions make things better or worse? Superman has incredible powers. That’s a huge responsibility. He can’t know what all the consequences are of every action he takes. Yet taking those actions is so easy for him. It’s a dangerous position to be in. Quite a scary one, to be honest. There’s a LOT riding on his shoulders. He can’t afford to make a misstep. Can you imagine living with that kind of pressure?   In the next scene, we get to see Batman in action. This movie presents a Batman who is older and more established. He’s been Batman for a long time. We’ve never seen a Batman so established on screen before, and I was all for it. We’d just come off the Dark Knight trilogy. A series that showed us Batman’s early career. There was no need to go and re-visit all that again. This was something new and interesting. And it made sense that Batman had been active as a small-time vigilante for a long time. Not yet famous. He hasn’t yet made a major impact on the world.  This movie takes Batman up to a whole new level. By the end, he’ll be a hero concerned with the fate of the world, not just local crime in Gotham. We also get to see that this older hardened batman is quite harsh. He brands crooks with his mark. Ouch! This is not a Batman you want to be on the wrong side of. This is the classic Batman who is pursued by the police just as much as the villains he battles against.   Lois finds a bullet embedded in her notebook, from the terrorist attack. I like how this movie gives all our characters their own quests. It takes a while, but they all link up and weave into one story. Lois and Clark are well established as a couple that are very much in love. When I first saw this I was surprised by that. In the previous movie, we saw Clark and Lois kiss for the first time, after they’d been through a lot. They were at the very beginning of a mutual attraction that might lead to a relationship over time. I thought we’d see that relationship develop. Instead, it all happened off screen. Looking back, I realise this was the right decision. It’s been 18 months. This wasn’t insta-love. We just didn’t see it all happen. And we don’t need to see the angst of Clark slowly wearing Lois down over time. Been there. Done that. Much better to just have them together so we can tell a story about two people in an established mature relationship.   Clark doesn’t care what people say about him. He did what he believes was right to protect the woman he loves. Despite what people are saying, he didn’t kill anyone.  Lois is concerned. Something doesn’t add up and she wants to know the truth. Because she’s Lois Lane. There’s a cute moment where they’re all serious and then Clark gives Lois a look, and she gives him a look, and he jumps in the bath with her. It’s a fun moment between a loving couple. To those critics who say this movie was devoid of anything light, happy, optimistic, or humorous, I would just point you straight to this scene. At this moment, Clark and Lois are very happy. And yes. Superman smiles. Honestly, I don’t know when it became gospel that the way to judge a Superman movie was how much the man smiles, but this movie has him smile when it’s appropriate.   We meet Alfred. And once again, this is a very different interpretation of the character than what we’ve seen on screen before. Jeremy Irons plays a strong battle-hardened Alfred who is equally capable of keeping up with Batman in the fight against crime as he is in serving drinks to Bruce Wayne. I really like this Alfred. Not just because he’s capable, but he serves as Bruce’s moral conscience. At least, he tries to. So very different from Michael Caine’s portrayal in the Dark Knight Trilogy (which I also loved). That was more of a father figure. You don’t mess with perfection. You do something different. Something equally cool. And Alfred speaks gibberish into Batman’s voice distorter to test it. Again this is a nice comedic moment. See, this movie DOES have humour in it. This moment made me laugh out loud. It’s …. Such a British moment. We aussies appreciate the British sense of humour, but I suspect the American critics who trashed this movie don’t. But this is how I like my humour. Fitting naturally into the story, where and when it is appropriate. It doesn’t feel forced or fake. Bruce is investigating someone called the White Portugeuse.   Alfred is concerned that Batman is becoming too violent. Too cruel, after seeing the branding in a newspaper article.   Brue points out that they’re criminals. They always have been. And this is true. Batman is a vigilante. He operates outside of the law. That’s a crime. Now you can argue that in a city like Gotham, where a corrupt police force is incapable of protecting the citizens from especially heinous crime bosses, that Batman is necessary. But we do need to acknowledge that Batman is a criminal. I kinda like the way Bruce owns this reality here. But things have changed. Alfred has seen the way Bruce has hardened since Superman appeared. Since the battle over metropolis. He talks about the rage that is slowly building in Bruce. That turns good men cruel. This line is thematically important to the movie. This whole idea of good men becoming bad is a major idea explored by the story. Here, Alfred is specifically talking about Bruce. There’s no denying his anger is making him more cruel than he used to be.   And now we meet our new Lex Luthor. And yet again, this is a very different interpretation of Lex. And while many people, even some who liked this movie, hated Jessie Eisenburg’s Lex, I have to say, I’m with it. This is a modern Lex Luthor. This is a young millennial business tycoon. This Lex has often been likened to Mark Zukerberg, the creator and CEO of Facebook. It’s a version of Lex that works in today’s world. But it doesn’t take long to see that Lex, while brilliant, is a little unhinged. And scarily, he’s the one in possession of the Kryptonite that was discovered in the wreckage of the world engine.   They tested the Kyptonite one General Zod’s corpse. They know it is lethal to Kryptonians. Lex has some reasonable things to say here. They’ve just survived an alien invasion. The only reason that humanity isn’t extinct is because Superman saved them. Now what if there’s more Kryptonians out there? What if there are other powerful beings or meta-humans, as he calls them. To be honest, humanity would be insanely foolish not to be looking for ways to defend themselves after their last encounter. Yes, Superman has proven himself a friend to earth (although Lex doesn’t believe this) but you don’t put all your eggs in one basket. If they have a weapon of their own, they don’t have to rely on “the kindness of monsters” as Lex puts it. And it’s hard to argue with that. What if something happens to Superman and he can no longer protect us? Or what if, God-forbid, we need to be protected from HIM? Can we rely on the goodness of Superman? Some fans are offended that we’d even ask that question. But I think this movie does a great job of examining the goodness of Superman, and we’ll talk lots about this as we go,because I have some things to say. Lex wants access to the crashed Kryptonian spaceship. He wants Zod’s body. And we get another iconic piece of music - The red capes are coming.   We meet a man, Wallace Keefe, who has lost both of his legs, his wife, and his child, in the Kryptonian invasion. I love the monument with the names of all those who died in the attack, and the big statue of Superman. Wallace climbs the statue and desecrates it with spray paint. He paints the words False God on Superman’s chest. This is an interesting statement.  Is Superman a God? Is he a false God? He is a being of immense power. But he is not a perfect being. He has flaws. He has the same human brokenness that exists in all of us. It could be argued that he IS a false god, but then, Superman has never claimed to be any kind of god.   We see journalist Clark Kent at work in his office at the daily planet. Perry has assigned him a sports story based on a recent football game between Metropolis and Gotham.   We learn that Gotham is over the other side of the bay from Metropolis. I had never expected these two iconic fictional cities would be so close to one another. But for the purposes of this story, it works. And the interesting thing about this is that Metropolis is the place where the well off live. The professionals. Gotham is the darker seedier place. The wrong side of the train tracks, so to speak. I find this very interesting.   Despite his brief from Perry, Clark has no interest in pursuing this football story. He’s got more important fish to fry. In Gotham. He’s looking for Kahina Ziri. He wants to talk to her about her accusations against Superman.  It seems some people, even good people, are afraid of Batman. There’s a new kind of mean in him, one man says.   Perry’s sarcasm regarding Clark’s newfound interest in the Batman vigilante was pretty funny. Clark takes his role as a journalist just as seriously as he takes his role as Superman. He says to Perry “when you assign a story, you’re making a choice about who matters, and who’s worth it.” Perry is much more pragmatic about it. He just wants to sell newspapers.   Lois has been investigating that bullet. Turns out it’s from an advanced military weapon, so how did these backyard rebels get the latest high-grade military equipment. She thinks the US government are arming the rebels while claiming to support the elected government. She’s on her way to Washington to investigate.   Senator Finch comes to see Lex. She’s blocking the import license for the kryptonite. She sees it as a weapon of assascination, not a deterrent. He fails to convince her that “the red capes are coming.” Demons come from the sky. I think he really believes that. I think in his own way, he thinks he’s right in what he’s doing.   Bruce dreams of visiting his parent’s tomb. We get our second reminder that his mother’s name was Martha. Yeah, we’ll get to that. Bruce doesn’t live in the Wayne family manor. He lives in a modern home. And he’s connected the White Portugause to Lex Luthor. And luckily enough, he’s been invited to a charity event at Lex’s place. And that’s where we see Robin’s suit, with “The Joke’s on you Batman” painted on it. This was a cool little set-up that we’re sadly unlikely to see ever payed off at this point. Most people assumed this suit belonged to Jason Todd, who was killed by the Joker in the comics. Zack Snyder has since confirmed that it was actually Dick Grayson. David Ayer actually had some nice little backstory regarding this, that never really made it into Suicide Squad.   Clark is covering the same charity event that Bruce is attending. We get our first glimpse of Wonder Woman, who is also there. I love the look she gives Lex as he tells the story of Zeus. It’s priceless. Lex, of course, think Zeus was just an ancient legend. Woman Woman is thinking, ‘that’s my dad you’re talking about.’ Alfred is guiding Bruce through the building, looking for information to connect him to the illegal weapons imports, and Clark, of course, can hear it. Clark basically knows, from this point, that Bruce is Batman. Alfred is like a worried father, wanting Bruce to settle down and provide some grandchildren. His comments have elicited yet another audible laugh from me. Lex isn’t a good public speaker. Being rich doesn’t necessarily make you eloquent. But money does allow the unhinged to be re-classified as eccentric. Then we finally see Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne meet. I think it’s kind of cool that their first meeting is in their secret identities. This scene nicely demonstrates the vast ideological difference between these two men. Clark is taking a very righteous, almost self-righteous stance against Batman. Bruce sees this is hypocritical, given the way they praise Superman - an alien, who, if he wanted to, could burn the whole place down. Bruce and Lex have something in common. They’re both nervous about somebody with Superman’s powers being out there. It’s a theme that was explored a lot in the previous movie, but that doesn’t mean it’s fully resolved. Oh, Superman has proven himself, don’t get me wrong. But  it’s completely believable to me that people would still be nervous about him. This movie does a good job of exploring why. And I love the joker reference where Bruce points out Gotham has a bad history with freaks dressed as clowns. I never thought to compare Superman with the Joker, but I get it. Clark isn’t able to see what Bruce is really up to because Superman is needed to help save people from a factory fire in South America.    So Superman saves the day, to the wonderful Man of Steel theme by Zimmer. And we see the veneration these people have for him as they reach out to touch him. This is another little Jesus metaphor. Reminds me of the woman who wanted to touch Jesus’ cloak so as to be healed. Superman doesn’t look overly happy about this veneration.   Dianna has stolen the data that Bruce extracted from Lex’s computer.   We get a segment with a bunch of talking heads. Most, if not all, are real life personalities. It jumps between them all, with a whole lot of different opinions, and I think that’s the main takeaway here. Everyone has their opinion. As one puts it, “is it surprising that a man of this power would be a topic of controversy?” Another points out, “maybe he’s not a devil OR a Jesus figure. Maybe he’s just a guy trying to do the right thing.”   Senator Finch has some real concerns over Superman, and the way he’s making decisions and interventions that affect the whole world. He’s not controlled by any government. He’s a god-like alien with no accountability. But what do you say to those whose children Superman could have saved, but we told him not to? Finch isn’t saying Superman shouldn’t act, but that he shouldn’t act unilaterally.   And Clark is watching all of this, taking it in. Just like everyone else, he’s trying to figure out where he fits in the world. To what level should he act? So he does what any wise person would do. He calls his Mum. He’s not looking for specific advice, he just wants to talk.   We get to see that Lois also has a sense of idealism, though maybe not as strong as Clark’s. The scientist testing her bullet is “this is why you’re a great reporter. Stuff like this still shocks you.”   Meanwhile, Clark is learning that batman’s brand is a death sentence in jail. Many feel Batman is going too far. To be honest, I’m not sure why the crooks in jail kill anyone with a bat brand. What obligates them to do Batman’s dirty work for him?   Lex comes to visit the Wallace. Now, in a nice suit and an electric wheelchair, he goes to meet Senator Finch. He blames Superman for his situation and he wants to face him.   And now we get to see General Swanwick, from Man of Steel. His opinion is that  Lois went where she shouldn’t have. Superman acted like a rogue combatant to rescue her, and some people died. Don’t invent a conspiracy to put back his halo, or yours. But this doesn’t address Lois’s evidence. She admits that she made a mistake going into the desert. She got people killed. It keeps her awake. But she doesn’t believe Superman is bad, and she doesn’t think Swanwick does either. He agrees to take the bullet and pursue this himself.   Clark really doesn’t care what Perry instructs him to do. He’s refused two stories he’s been assigned. Clark is on a crusade for justice against the Batman. He thinks the Daily Planet should stand for something. Perry’s perspective is that principles don’t exist anymore. It’s not 1938 anymore. The world is a harsher place. It’s all about the money now. This is an interesting little meta-commentary on the fact that Superman has changed. Superman was created in 1938. The character has certainly changed from then to now. This appears to be a not-so-subtle statement from the filmmakers that this is a different type of Superman for the times. Deal with it.   Turns out Dianna wasn’t interested in all Bruce’s data, she just wanted a photo that Lex had. She returns the drive. And as Briuce starts to look at the data, he has a vision. This is the nightmare sequence, the source of much confusion in many a movie-goer. I’m not going to pretend to fully understand all of it myself. I’m not a comic book expert, but the more you know the comics, the more you’ll understand. We’re clearly seeing a dystopian future. The music and the visual make that clear very quickly. Batman is trying to secure some Kryptonite from Lexcorp. But it’s a trap. A bunch of storm-trooper style soldiers with Superman logos on their arms try to kill Batman. In this future, Superman has gone evil, he has neo-nazi thugs working for him, and flying aliens rule the world. Once he’s captured, Bruce is visited by Superman. The soldiers bow in reverence to him. And he’s looking pretty mean. He ruthlessly murders people with his heat vision. “She was my world, and you took her from me.” Superman says before he kills bruce. And then Bruce wakes up. A weird bearded Flash warns him that Lois Lane is the key. You were right about him, you’ve always been right about him.  This is the Flash sending a message back through time from the future. Trying to prevent that nightmare future. But the message has gone back to a point in time too early. Before Bruce even knows The Flash. Honestly I don’t think you need to understand all this to appreciate it. It’s a tease. It’s setting up cool stuff for the future. Now you can criticise this “evil Superman” all you want, but this stuff is straight from the comics. Superman hasn’t just decided to go bad. From what we’ve heard, Zack Snyder intended that this was a Superman who was being mind-controlled by Darkseid using the anti-life equation. He hasn’t just abandoned all reason because the woman he loved died. I have zero problems with this stuff.   But I wonder if we’ll get a decent payoff to all of this in the Snyder Cut of Justice league coming out next year?   The data on the drive reveals that the white portugeuse is a ship. Turns out Bruce has known more about this than he’s let on to Alfred. This is the ship that is smuggling the kryptonite to Lex. Bruce wants to intercept it. To use it. He’s actively considering killing Superman with it. Bruce says, look at the dead. This guy brought the war two years ago. If there’s even a 1 percent chance that this guy could turn on us then we have to take it as a 100% certainty and take him out.   Bruce doesn’t want to see Superman become a threat, and look back, wishing he’d done something to prevent it. He has the means to stop Superman. And honestly, that vision the Flash sent him, has only served to make him even more fearful of Superman. Because he’s seen a glimpse of that future. He HAS to prevent it from becoming a reality. That’s why the nightmare sequence is important to the movie. It directly impacts Bruce’s motivations. Alfred is convinced Superman is not our enemy. Not today, Bruce agreed, but what about the future? How many good guys are left? He asks. How many stayed that way. This line is interesting. I think this might be the reason for some theories that were popular, at one point, in the internet, that rather than being killed by the joker, Robin actually became the joker. That would make the message “The joke’s on your Batman” even more powerful. But it seems this wasn’t actually the plan.   Somebody has sent photos to Clark of the victims of Batman’s brand. And it makes him angry. The police won’t tell Clark what happened to the inmate who died, but a sympathetic cop nods him in the direction of the inmate's widow. “One man decides who lives and who dies. How is that justice?” She asks. But that’s what others are asking about Superman. He has the power to influence our lives, but does he have the moral right to make those decisions for himself?   Clark’s cover for never being where he’s supposed to be, in this version, is simply that he’s not a good employee. He’s always pursuing his own stuff against orders. This makes it work. It’s more believable than versions where he’s one of the paper’s star reporters, Perry’s golden boy. It’s hard to show true dedication to your job and be Superman at the same time. We really do get some decent Clark stuff in this movie. There’s been surprisingly little Superman. Most we’ve seen of the character has been as Clark, investigating the Batman.   Batman goes to the ship to steal the kryptonite. And we get to see the new batmobile in action for the first time. This new batmobile is a tank of a thing. Armoured and armed with machine guns. Super high tech. It’s the perfect vehicle for this older more established Batman. It’s really cool. But superman is there to interfere. Makes sense. He’s been investigating batman this whole time. Now he sees Batman is out and about causing mayhem. So he goes to stop him. And he gives Batman a verbal warning. “Next time they shine your light in the sky, don’t go to it. The bat is dead. Bury it.” Batman failed to get the kryptonite, but he managed to put a tracker on the truck. Now he knows where Lex is holding it.   Finch asks the question “How do we determine what’s good?” and she invites Superman to come and meet the people who say they suffered in that desert. The world needs to know what happened. To know what he stands for. How far will he take his power? Does he act by our will or by his own? These are not totally unreasonable questions.   Meanwhile, Martha encourages him with her perspective. “They see what you do and they know who you are. You’re not a killer, a threat.” Superman’s actions speak for him. The fruit of his life, if you like. He may not be perfect, but he’s not an enemy of this world. She tells him to be this world’s hero, or don’t be. You don’t owe this world anything. You never did. It’s not out of some kind of obligation that Superman does the things he does. He doesn’t help others because he owes them. He does things out of love. Love for humanity. Love for strangers, because he sees value in people and he chooses to help them. That’s what love has always been. A choice.   At this point the truth starts to come out. First of all, struck with a guilty conscience, Kahina Ziri goes to Finch and reveals that she didn’t tell the truth. She lied to set Superman up. Then General Swanwick confirms to Lois that It’s a setup. Someone wanted Superman to look guilty. The bullet Lois found was developed by a private company. Lexcorp. He had private contractors at the desert compound. Lex Luthor is setting Superman up. Trying to destroy his reputation.   Lois wants to run the story immediately. Superman needs to know he’s being set up because it might affect what he says to the senators. But Perry is afraid of litigation. And I don’t blame him. As he says, without proof, Lex could sue the Daily Planet out of existence.   Wallace is an employee of Bruce Wayne. Bruce has been taking good care of him, because he cares about those who work for him. But the cheques are all returned with aggressive messages.   Lex keeps saying that the oldest lie in America is that power can be innocent. He truly believes in the old saying that power corrupts. Therefore, a being with Superman’s power cannot be good. And he has Ziri murdered so she can’t tell the truth. Lex is conspicuously absent from his seat in the hearing. Finch finds a little message he left behind for her, referencing an earlier conversation. And then the wheelchair explodes, taking out the senate building.

EPISODE 42: Superman Strength + Superman Adventures The Last Sons read and discuss the Superman: Strength mini plus the popular Superman Adventures #41, requested by Super listener Patrick D. Ryall! It's a surprise for the Last Sons and one which isn't a bad thing! Hidden gem worthy of more mention - tune in to hear all the discussion! SYNOPSIS: (courtesy of Connor-El & Wiki) PART 1 A criminal named Fido and his gang are speculating on the origin of Superman and plotting how to deal with him. They send a dupe to rob a bank to test how fast Superman reacts, while Fido reveals his Super-criminal father claimed to have broken Supermans arm, and told him Superman was raised by the metropolis elite with a silver spoon in his mouth never having to struggle, hence his strict moral compass. Meanwhile Superman overhears them and warns them not to plot anything, and leaves. Lois picks up Clark and Pa Kent and over dinner Pa starts to tell a story from Clarks childhood about his first time to a city. In the past with Clark present Pa stole some candy from a crooked clerk overcharging people in need and gave some to clark, tellin him some rules can be broken. Later during a solar eclipse Clark sees a city in the distance and runs to it. Meanwhile Fidos gang creates a series of disasters from fires to blowing up a bridge, to hold Superman off while they break into lex corps to steal his old invention, a pair of gloves that can create dimensional portals. Superman eventually catches up with them and FIdo lures him through the portal, severing at the neck and coming into possession of the head of Superman! PART 2 Jonathan Kent recalls an incident when Clark was ten-years-old and a solar eclipse caused his innate Kryptonian powers to briefly manifest before they should have. Clark ran from Smallville to Chicago in under an hour and found himself embroiled in a brewing conflict between two rival members which resulted in both of their detahs. In the present, Superman is suffering from a laboratory experiment malfunction in which his head has been displaced through a dimensional portal. A former scientist named John "Fido" Pollock has the head and plans on using it as leverage in order to gain favor with Lex Luthor. This is complicated by a series of disasters happening nearby, Superman pleads with Fido to release him to save them, promising he will come back. Fido complies and lets Superman go, superman rescues everyone he can but a child dies in the process. After Supermans return, Fido and his cronies bring Superman's head to Luthor's office and offers him a demonstration of his Trans-Locational Portal gloves. Luthor is unimpressed until Pollock also reveals that he has another invention that can alter the size ratio of volumes of matter and threatens to use this technology to destroy Metropolis. A fire fight breaks out between Fido's thugs and Luthors' security team. A pile of debris falls through the spatial portal and giant-sized coins, paperclips and batteries begin raining down on Metropolis. Luthor frees Superman so that he can save the city. PART 3 Thanks to the efforts of criminal inventor John "Fido" Pollock, a wave of giant-sized pocket debris begins raining down on Metropolis. Superman flies out and deflects giant coins, fountain pens and paperclips from smashing through the city. At Lexcorp Tower, Fido and his crew use their trans-locational gloves to escape before Luthor's security team can gun them down. They stop at another LexCorp facility to hijack a NASA hovercraft. Lois Lane is present and tries to sneak on board, but Fido captures her and uses her tech to shrink her down in size. Superman arrives at the facility and his father, Jonathan Kent, tells him that the bandits have kidnapped Lois. Superman then takes off and flies after them. He traces the crew to Cairo, Egypt. Fido comes up with another idea. Using the Trans-Locational Portal, he locates the imprisoned Metallo and steals a small piece of Kryptonite from his chest cavity. He intends on using to subdue Superman. When they realize that Superman is in range, they scramble into the hovercraft leaving behind one of their own, Hopper. They open a dimensional portal to Chicago, but Superman is fast enough to follow them into the portal. They zigzag through the city, but eventually the Jet-Car runs out of fuel. By this point, Fido's cronies realize that there is no escape and they abandon him. While Superman rounds up henchpeople Trudy and Sulley, Fido hijacks a pick-up truck. Superman bears down on him, but Fido temporarily blinds him with one of the hi-tech weapons they stole from LexCorp. Superman shakes off the effects, but Fido has one more ace up his sleeve. He enlarges the Kryptonite pebble he stole from Metallo and uses it to pin Superman to the ground. While Fido is boasting about his supposed conquest, Lois escapes from the vial she was trapped in and uses Fido's Scaling Gloves to return to normal size. She then uses the same gloves to reduce the Kryptonite block back to pebble size. Through the course of this, Superman learns that Fido has always lived in the shadow of his abusive father, Frank "Pit Bull" Pollock – a man who once claimed to have broken Superman's arm in combat. Superman slightly recalls the event, and tells Fido that his father never bested him, and certainly never broke his arm. Fido knows that Superman would never lie, and the sudden revelation drives him into a fury. He unloads on Superman with every weapon at his disposal, but they do no good. Once his arsenal is spent, Fido collapses to the ground and Superman takes him into custody. On the Show John Michael Beck Taylor, commonly known as Michael Beck, is an American actor, known for his role as Swan in the 1979 film The Warriors, and as Sonny Malone in Xanadu. He sits down with Fonseca and talks about Hollywood and his career. We talk about Baby Yoda, Picard Show (STAR TREK), Walking Dead again. The Most Iconic LEX LUTHOR Actors, Ranked 6. Jesse Eisenberg Jesse Eisenbrg's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Lex Luthor isn't exactly a fan favorite (though he's got his admirers to be sure), but it's hard to argue Eisenberg found a niche for Luthor as a demented wunderkind bent on manipulating the world's heroes into fighting each other. It's unclear what future if any Eisenberg's Luthor has on film, but he was last scene in a post-credits scene for Justice League in which he seemingly recruited Deathstroke to a big screen version of the Legion of Doom that may or may not ever come to fruition. 5. Jon Cryer When The CW first announced their decision to cast Jon Cryer as Lex Luthor in Supergirl, the skepticism ran deep. Four years after finishing his 12-season run on CBS's Two and a Half Men, the actor, who many still think of as Pretty in Pink's iconic, lovable, nerdy character Duckie, the actor took a huge risk in stepping into the villainous role. He may have played Lex Luthor's nephew Lenny in Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, but that movie wasn't — how should we put this? — good. 33 years later, could Cryer find redemption in returning to this universe and playing the corrupt billionaire? Absolutely. Cryer's take on the famous supervillain is much darker than what Gene Hackman did with the role. He's a lot closer to the comic book version of Luthor. But there is a sinister glimmer in this Luthor's eye here that is slightly reminiscent of Hackman's scenery-chewing glory. Let's be clear here, though: Cryer does not chew the scenery at all as Lex Luthor. This Lex is self-obsessed and self-important. But he is also an absolute sociopath. It's a challenge for any actor to portray someone this evil and still make him fun for audiences to watch. Somehow, Cryer is able to find the inner joy in bringing Luthor to life. And that sinister glimmer we referenced earlier makes Lex Luthor's ongoing conflict with Supergirl all the more entertaining to watch. 4. John Shea John Shea's charismatic Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman version of Lex Luthor was somewhat ahead of its time, posing Luthor as an Elon Musk style tech entrepreneur with his fingers on the pulse of cutting edge technology. But unlike the modern real world archetype he foreshadowed, Shea's Luthor had those same fingers spread into the criminal underworld as well. Shea's Luthor oozed confidence and friendly favor to the public, but behind the scenes his ruthless machinations and hatred of Superman colored his every action. Lois and Clark's Luthor followed an arc far different from most versions of the character, but at the same time presented one of the most complete pictures of Luthor's dual nature yet on screen. 3. Michael Rosenbaum Michael Rosenbaum played perhaps the scariest version live action version of Lex Luthor – because we saw him evolve from Clark Kent's friend to the nascent Superman's arch-enemy almost in real time. Rosenbaum's likable but increasingly cold Luthor was a major departure from previous well-known versions of the character like Gene Hackman's Superman: The Movie version. Oddly enough, Rosenbaum also portrayed the Flash in the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited animated series – and he also got a chance to portray a very different version of Luthor on that show as well in an episode where Wally West and Lex Luthor switch brains (a la Freaky Friday). The result is Rosenbaum doing his best version of Luthor impersonating the Flash, while JLU's Luthor Clancy Brown (remember that name) turns in a performance as Rosenbaum's Wally impersonating him – a classic bit of switcheroo. 2. Clancy Brown Unlike his Gotham City arch-criminal equivalent the Joker, Lex Luthor doesn't have a rich history of iconic voice portrayals that immediately spring to mind. But Clancy Brown's Luthor, whom he voiced from Superman: The Animated Series through Justice League Unlimited, breaks that mold. Brown's Luthor carried a snide edge that was clearly informed by Gene Hackman's Superman: The Movie performance (more on that later), but which went an extra mile in its vicious sarcasm. Brown's Luthor moved from the LexCorp boardroom into the Hall of Doom and eventually to deep space, seamlessly exuding Lex's confidence and arrogance in every context he was placed. 1. Gene Hackman Much like his heroic counterpart Christopher Reeve's good natured take on Superman, Gene Hackman's affable but diabolical robber baron/real estate developer version of Lex Luthor defined the character for a whole generation of fans in Superman: The Movie and its sequels. Hackman's portrayal is worlds apart from some versions of the character – he's not exactly the mad scientist supervillain type – but his Lex still informs aspects of Luthor in both comic books and subsequent film portrayals, where his grandiosity and borderline madness often come through – along with his off-beat humor. Now Hackman's Luthor has another, more direct legacy in Superman media. John Cryer, who played Lex Luthor's nephew Lenny Luthor alongside Hackman in Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, will now portray Lex Luthor on CW's Supergirl.

EPISODE 30: SUPERMAN YEAR ONE, FINAL CHAPTER The Last Sons reunite to review the final chapter to the 3-part saga that is Superman Year One. Things take a slight turn towards the end - for the better, or for the worst? You'll have to tune in to find out! Connor-El and Rey-Zod also chat about the current Superman news of the week, and again get caught up with their thoughts on the latest iteration of Superman for the small screen. We wrap it all up in a big, red, cape, right here! SYNOPSIS: (Written by Connor-El) Lois Lane is searching for Superman underwater in a sub when territorial atlanteans fire on her craft which begins to take on water which quickly envelopes her. Superman comes to the rescue and carries Lois to the shore, where he carefully administers CPR. He then leaves her in a tree as NAVY seals are also tracking him, they attempt to capture him but he knocks them out with ease. A second team comes in and tries to use electricity on him, but that actually seems to empower him and he again disables them with ease. He goes back to Lois who has gone into Shock and finds her ID, Lois Lane of the Daily Planet and takes her to a hospital. Time passes and Clark enrols in Kansas State University and graduates, with solid grades, nothing too perfect so he doesn't stand out. He is referred to Perry White of the Daily Planet so he heads to Metropolis. As soon as he arrives he rescues a child about to be hit by a truck much to the relief and amazement of everyone, then heads to the planet where he reads the paper and finds out there is a huge amount of crime in the city. Clark is hired and sees Lois in the bullpen and realizes she knows his face as Superman so he goes to get a disguise for Clark Kent and finds an old fashioned hat and large glasses. Clark constantly hears sirens, crime never stops so he proceeds to start fighting it. He stops a bank robbery, a drug operation, an abusive husband, a car-jacking operation and much more. Superman becomes the talk of the town. At the Daily Planet Lois muses on Clark's similarity to Superman when a Hostage crisis arises at Lexcorp and Clark dons his Superman garb and flies off to deal assess the situation. He overhears Lois calling Clark useless which cuts him every time she ever says it. The men behind the crisis put a gun to a little girls head and demand they be released with 1 billion and transport, but Superman intervenes and saves the girl (who barfs on him) and leaves her tucked in his cape on a roof and calls the police to come get her, then heads off and deals with the rest of the criminals. As he is doing so he realizes he is getting stronger every day. As all this is happening Lois ties a line around herself and jumps down onto the building, snapping pictures of Superman taking out the bad guys. As the hostages flee Lex himself comes up, noting they are fleeing just on time, to go talk to Superman who he wants to control. Superman doesn't like or trust Lex and suspects him of setting this whole thing up, but Lex convinces him to come inside and take a look at something. Lex shows Superman a photo of the Batman who he says is a terrorist and an agent of chaos. Lex says Batman is rough, Superman is skeptical so Lex shows Superman some photos of Batman's victims. (Written by Rey-Zod) Aboard a ship in Gotham Harbour, Batman intervenes a black market arms shipment, which catches the eye of Lex Luthor. Using the aggressive nature in which the Dark Knight metes out justice, Luthor turns the public against Batman, and cunningly thrusts the Man of Steel in the limelight as the one who can bring tranquility back to the city, and who can oppose the Dark Knight. In doing so, Luthor hopes to manipulate and defeat his foes simultaneously, and it appears there’s not much Superman can do about it. Later, Batman catches wind of a meeting between Luthor and his own nemesis, The Joker, and it’s after extracting more information from the Clown Prince, that Batman is able to further frustrate Luthor’s plans by blowing up a downtown drugs lab. The incident is just the catalyst Luthor needs to pressure Superman into bringing Batman in, and upon their inevitable confrontation atop a roof in Gotham City, their battle begins. Though Batman can’t get the measure of Superman, just as Superman begins to retaliate, Wonder Woman intervenes and convinces that they all should be working together. The Trinity confront Luthor in his office, and unable to withstand Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Submission, Luthor reveals all - all his underhanded, sinister schemes for financial gain and power.  Added to this, Luthor also reveals a stunning secret that staggers Superman. Luthor speaks of the bottled city of Kandor and the evil Brainiac, and now with a new, all important purpose, Superman takes leave, innocently unaware of  Wonder Woman’s burgeoning feelings towards him, and leaving her and Batman to deal with Luthor. Year One ends with Superman leaving Earth, unsure how long he will be away from his adopted home planet, but if anything, more assured of his place in the universe, and the role and responsibility he now has as a powerful protector of justice. Having left his good parents Jonathan and Martha, Clark ventures into Metropolis to make a start for himself, and to hopefully land a job at a newspaper office. Soaking in the ambience of his run down apartment, Clark soon encounters a huge fire in an adjacent building. There’s no need however to intervene and Clark awkwardly walks away as the fire department manage the curious crowd and blazing fire. Overhearing a conversation from some journalists the next day, Clark discovers that the fire the previous night may well be  a result of arson. This pushes Clark to investigate so in the dead of night, he dresses up in black and flies off to the smouldering building site to see what he can find. Unfortunately he’s not the only one there, and it’s a close encounter with the police and one Lois Lane, that exposes Clark for the first time as a Flying Man. Though not identified, this alien figure now slowly begins to be a person of interest for the media and citizens of Metropolis. Worried that his fingerprints may still be on a piece of evidence found at the arson site and in police custody, Clark makes the error of breaking in to the station to wipe his prints clean. All this does is further the speculation about the Flying Man, as he is again caught on camera. As yet unaware of his capture on security camera, Clark goes about trying to impress the editor in chief of the Metropolis Daily News with a sensational article he had written, when all of a sudden the building to the Metropolis Daily News explodes with a bang! This time, Clark has no option but to expose himself once and for all in front of the populace, and though he does good in saving many lives from the burning wreckage, the citizens of Metropolis are still wary of him - an alien figure with awesome power. Clark hears it all from his apartment - how some are excited for his appearance, whilst others are cautiously skeptical. In a brief lack of faith, Clark sends his costume back to Smallville, much to Jonathan and Martha’s surprise.   Chapter 2: In Which He Must Choose Between His Fears Clark reflects on having left Smallville as he grinds out his new found job as a cleaner. He has, however, found good friends in fellow cleaners Sammy, Jose and Luis. The three have a spare ticket to the baseball after one of their mates, Diego cancels and Clark is there at the right time and place to accept their offer. It’s not long too before Clark learns of the true heart of humanity in the face of adversity, and he quietly admires Jose’s love of his son and what he’d do to make ends meet. Later in the day, it’s at the Daily Planet that Clark attempts to gain an interview with Perry White but it proves unsuccessful. It’s not all futile as Clark soon learns from Perry White chatting, that the the Mayor of Metropolis, Jessicks may be considering Martial Law for the city for an unknown reason. Having heard the conversation between Perry and his colleagues, Clark decides to investigate. It’s at the Mayor’s office that Clark spies that there is a terrorist amongst the city, threatening chaos to the city unless their demand of $5 Billion dollars is met. Despite reservations from his peers that the threat must be met head on,the Mayor decides to introduce a tactical response unit to defend the city against the terrorists. Wallace Colmes...leader of the National Guard announces that martial law will commence at 8pm on that night. The terrorists catch wind of this and respond in the most vicious way imaginable, through bombings and in this instance it’s LexCorps who feel the brunt of it. Clark rushes in and amidst the carnage, he helps as much as he can...again with some citizens misconstruing it for malevolent rather than benevolent motives. Clark has a crisis of faith again at how he is received by Metropolis and finds himself at his wits end. He returns to the streets to hear that the Mayor ruefully concedes defeat to the terrorists, and in the final stake through the heart, the Mayor mistakenly feels the Flying Man to be part of the terrorism. All is but lost to Clark, until he sees a figure slowly emerge form the crowd...it’s Lois Lane...and she aims to fight for Metropolis…!   (Written by Connor-El)   Chapter 3: In Which He Asks the Question That Will Change His Life Clark is exuberant that star reporter Lois Lane believes in him, and eavesdrops her defending him to Perry White. Perry agrees to let her write the article on the flying man saving people in exchange for her getting an exclusive interview with someone she doesn't like at all. Clark then reminisces about the time he saw a travel special on Metropolis and knew he would move there, as well as Ma and Pa making his costume with Pa telling him how excited he is at Clark's potential as a force for good. Clark then goes to work and pays Jose back for his ticket to the game, after work he see's the front page headline of the daily planet “Flying Man Saves City by Lois Lane” and is so ecstatic he buys up all copies of the paper. Heading to the park (and saving a mother and her child with his super breath on the way) he begins to brainstorm ideas for his big article to impress Perry White at the Daily planet, mostly ideas to do with a newcomer in Metropolis then he settles on How the Unknown Impacts people. He then uses his telescopic vision to look in on Lois and Perry and sees Perry telling Lois its time for the interview and orders her to go or her current story is dead. Clark, being curious about who this is, puts on his mask and follows Lois to this press conference and arrives at the airport where he overhears Jimmy and Lois talk about the fact that she once dated this man. The man as it turns out, is Lex Luthor who proclaims he has come back to Metropolis after 5 to save it from these terrorists and the huge increase in crime. During this conference a swarm of missiles from the terrorist that nearly block out the sky head toward the conference to the horror of Clark.   Chapter 4: In Which He Becomes A Man   As the missiles head closer to Lex Luthors press conference a voice comes from the saying they warned Luthor not to come back and now that he has Metropolis will pay the price. Lex then activates a bunch of anti-missile turrets and with Clark's help they are all destroyed. The Media later reports that Lex Luthor saved the day much to Lois' anger as no credit was given to the Flying Man. As Clark watches an interview with Lex in his apartment he comes to a realisation, why did Lex have anti missile turrets in the airport? Clark investigates further and finds a radio transmitter and finds out the anti-missiles were activated manually. He then heads over to the Lexcorp media building and listens in hearing Lex planned the trip to Metropolis a month ago, which was before these troubles started. He then heads to the daily planet and leaves a note on Lois' desk thanking her for believing in him. At the entrance of the planet he greets her as Clark Kent and informs her of his discoveries over a cup of coffee, namely that he believes due to the fact that ther turrets were manually activated and Luthor planned this trip a month before the bombings that Luthor has set the whole thing up, killing innocent people so that he can gain more power and influence in Metropolis, and back the candidate John Wicks. Lois is fascinated by Clark with his big athletics build but his humble nature which isnt an act, and seems to relish in the idea she might have a rival so she promises to submit the story he writes to Perry White if she likes it. They then split up, Lois going to Lex's recently fired pilot and Clark to check City Filings. Lois meets with the Pilot and then confronts Luthor, telling him her theory that he wants his candidate John Wicks in Government so that the Government will by his weapons defence systems and has set this whole thing up, also mentioning she used to write his speeches and knows a pre-written speech when she hears one, which his supposed spontaneous reaction to the terrorist attack was. Lex's seething reaction essentially proves Lois is right, and even if she can't prove anything he will wish he never left Europe. Clark meanwhile tracks the radio transmitter signal with his super-hearing and finds a warehouse full of the terrorist rockets, which are obviously Luthors. Luthor blows up all the rockets hoping to get rid of not only the evidence but the flying man. Clark, resolved to stop Luthor first flies to Smallville and gets his costume from the Kents. He then confronts Lex, whom after initially denying everything panics and fires a gun at Clark. Clark says he will be watching him 24/7, just waiting for him to slip up or make any small mistake so he can take him down. He leaves and a seething Luthor states “The world has just changed, and I'm going to change it back”. Back at the planet, Clark gives Lois his story, an interview with the flying man. Lois taken aback because Clark got the flying mans exact mission statement without any questions about who he was or where he came from. She then gives the story to Perry and tells him to hire Clark. Lois decides the flying man needs a name... The next day. The citizens of metropolis carry a new paper with a front page read “What Superman Wants from us” as Superman himself flies overhead. EPISODE 11: DARK KNIGHT OVER METROPOLIS REVIEW The Two Sons are at it again and this time they look at an arc which includes Superman's best buddy, Man Bat....er, I mean Batman! It's another ride into Metropolis where Connor-El and Rey-Zod chat about the merits of the arc graciously requested in by one of our Super Listeners! SHOW NOTES: Action Comics Annual #1 Adventures of Superman #466 Action Comics #653  Superman (Volume 2) #44  Adventures of Superman #467 Action Comics #654 Worlds Finest Superman 7 Perez/Morrison Fiasco Super Cafe Steve Rude Hush Injustice done right Superman/Batman Theme Mashup SYNOPSES: (Written by Connor-El) Superman (Volume 2) #44 (Dark Knight Over Metropolis, Part One: Green Death in Crime Alley) Amanda McCoy is a disgruntled ex-employee of Lexcorp who after being fired for suggesting Clark Kent was Superman, decided to prove to herself that her theory was correct. After attacking Clark Kent with the Kryptonite ring she stole from Lex Luthor to prove he was Superman, Amanda Mcoy is scared she has killed him and runs away from the abandoned cemetery where they met. She is then abducted and killed by thugs while walking home, the ring falling through a sewer grate.... Jose Delgado aka Gangbuster is currently acting as Cat Grants bodyguard due to her being marked by Intergang. They and her son Adam exit the movies while a shadowy figure on the rooftops tails them (as well as an undercover cop acting as extra protection). Despite Jose's protests, Cat opts to take a shortcut through a dark alley where they are ambushed by an invisible assailant. Jose manages to dispatch the assailant while the shadowy figure is revealed to be Superman himself. Who interrogates this so called “Blindspot” and warns him to leave Cat Grant alone. Meanwhile at the morgue, Police Inspector Henderson is informed of the body of a woman (Amanda McCoy but they don't know that) that was found battered and beaten and left for 2 weeks. Henderson is disgusted that something like this could happen outside of suicide slum, and worries that Metropolis is going the way of Gotham, where we cut to to find a statement by Commissioner Gordon that violent Crime is on the rise in Gotham. The Batman comes across a homeless man being mugged and steps in, stopping the crook but unfortunately the homeless man is dead from a heart attack. Inside the homeless mans box, Batman discovers a ring with a green radioactive gem that seems to glow... Meanwhile at Lexcorp, Luthor is furious to find that his kryptonite ring has been stolen right from under his nose, while Intergang plan the next attack on Cat Grant and decide to get Superman out of the way by baiting him with Lois Lane and Clark Kent. They make plans to attack the upcoming Journalists banquet which is being hosted by Luthor. Batman studies the ring in his batcave and has tracked it back to Metropolis, where he decides to attend the journalist banquet he was invited to so he can meet with Clark Kent (they know each others identities at this point) since he will be working in his city. Meanwhile Superman flies to his fortress in the Antarctic and fixes the damage done by the Eradicator, rebuilding the statue to his kryptonian parents. He then flies back to Metropolis to meet Lois Lane for a date as Clark Kent. (Written by Connor-El) Adventures of Superman #467 (Dark Knight Over Metropolis, Part Two: Taken to the Grave) After his date with Lois Clark finds a note left by Batman in his apartment requesting that they talk, Superman flies through Metropolis pondering what trouble is happening in his city that Batman himself has appeared. Batman meanwhile is breaking into the morgue where a Jane Doe (McCoys body) is held as it has slight radiation poisoning and Batman suspects she held the ring before the homeless man. During his examination he is caught by a cop who says they don't tolerate his kind in Metropolis. Batman says the law takes too much time then asks the officer what he is going to do exactly to stop him, shoot him in the back? Then walks away. Superman heres the alarms from the morgue going off and flies over, seeing a shadowy figure on a rooftop on the way, he confronts them. It turns out to be Jose Delgado in his Gangbuster attire, watching Cat Grants apartment from the rooftop. Superman and Gangbuster then talk where Superman compliments him but they reminisce all the times he's been dangerously injured. Batman then shows up and says if Gangbuster couldn't stand the heat, he wouldn't be there. Batman then says he needs to talk to Superman alone, and they depart with Gangbuster reflecting on Batman being just a normal guy like him. Jose is then ambushed by two villains from intergang; Chiller, who can take other peoples forms and disguises himself as Cat Grant, as Shockwave brings down the roof beneath him and knocks out Delgado, capturing him and taking him out of the picture. Meanwhile batman informs him of his investigation, and shows Superman a picture of the body whom he identifies as the woman who cornered him and revealed his identity. He informs batman that the ring she used can kill him and has every reason to believe Luthor is mixed up in all this. Batman doesn't tell Superman he has the ring as he thinks it might come in handy, they then head to Lexcorp together and break in, despite Supermans grumblings about breaking and entering, which Batman points out will be much more effective than Superman trying to intimidate Luthor into giving him what he wants. Superman shorts out all the cameras with his heat vision and they hack into a computer near Luthors vault. They discover that the woman is Amanda McCoy and they find her address, while Superman worries if Luthor knows who he really is. They then leave before Luthors guards arrive and make a plan to go to his banquet, then McCoys address. At the Banquet Clark, Lois and Bruce are socialising when Luthor shows up and meets Bruce for the first time. Lex brings up how Clark saved his life when intergang attacked a few months ago, and speak of the devil Intergang arrive again and start trashing the banquet, killing people indiscriminately while looking for Clark and Lois. Lex pushes Clark out of the way of incoming fire and tells him to consider his debt repaid. Clark heats up the pool with his heat vision to create enough steam for him to change into Superman, and Bruce also changes into batman. Superman and Batman take care of Intergang and realise it was a diversion and that they must have Cat Grant, so they both set off to find her. Chill has kidnapped Cat Grant disguised as Jose Delgado, and Shockwave gets the order to execute Delgado and make it look like an accident, he then causes the building to fall on them. (Written by Rey-Zod) Action Comics #654 (Dark Knight Over Metropolis, Part Three: Deadly Covenant) After the abduction of Cat Grant, both Superman and Batman scour the city only to come across the sounds of a crumbling building not far away. Superman tends to the wreckage whilst Batman chooses to check out Grant’s apartment for clues to her whereabouts. Superman is momentarily stricken with horror as he finds Delgado, aka Gangbusters, head gear amongst the debris, but Delgado proves to be a hard man to kill and Superman is relieved to see him alive and well up high in the adjacent building’s fire escape. Delgado recalls his narrow escape but the two are suddenly distracted with the assassin, Shockwave’s appearance as he stumbles out of the debris. Shockwave is adamant to finish the job he was contracted to, but he faces a blue and red wall in the form of the Man of Steel. Meanwhile, Chiller (the assassin who abducted Grant using his skill of disguise) brings his hostage to an outlaying industrial park, where Dr Moon and his cohorts have set up shop. Dr Moon has been employed by Intergang to facilitate a brainwashing of Cat Grant, in order for her to provide a favourable testimony to Morgan Edge’s court case. Brainwashing is in fact not the correct term, with Dr. Moon preferring the term, ‘re-programming’. Both Chiller and Dr. Moon conspire behind the Intergang members’ backs after a slight altercation concerning recent events. Dr. Moon convinces Chiller to put up with Intergang’s idiosyncracies but before anything else could be said, both Batman and Superman crash onto the scene. Whilst the legendary duo stave off the Intergang thugs, Dr. Moon persists with his plan to re-program Cat Grant. Fortunately, Gangbuster appears and knocks Dr. Moon out before any damage can be done to the shaken Grant. Intergang briefly gain the upper hand with Superman, but ultimately the caped heroes prove too much for them. Gillespie and Mannheim (two of Intergang’s big wigs) monitor the situation via a camera feed and concede that Morgan Edge is beyond help. Whilst Gangbuster and Superman are left to clean up the scene, it’s not long before Batman’s disappearance is noticed. Leaving a note pinned to the unconscious Dr. Moon cryptically leading Superman on, Superman flies off to catch up with the Dark Knight. His travels lead the two to Amanda McCoy’s apartment, where her diary explains some previous events and puts some mysteries to rest. She is indeed the unidentifiable corpse, and her involvement with Superman includes the theft of Luthor’s Kryptonite ring, the danger of Superman’s secret identity getting out, and his encounter with her in the cemetery. Batman reveals he has the Kryptonite ring, gives it to Superman, and recommends that Superman should take the evidence from Amanda’s apartment, which exposes him as Clark Kent. As time goes by, Edge’s court case ends in a guilty conviction and the mystery of the unidentified dead woman is revealed as Amanda McCoy. Back at Wayne mansion, Bruce is greeted by a visit with Superman. Having invited himself to the Batcave, Superman opens up on the respect he has for the Dark Knight and bestows upon him the honour of safe guarding the Kryptonite ring...as he states, “I Want the Means to stop me, to be in the hands of a man I can trust with my life” The music for this episode contains excerpts from various songs and is copyrighted by Styzmask. Welcome to the DC TV Report for the week ending Saturday June 17th, 2017. As submitted by Edward O'Hare, nickname To Be Determined. It looked like we were just down to iZombie this week until DC decided to post a new episode of Powerless on YouTube with special guest star Adam West. What a great surprise! iZombie - Liv and Blaine crashed the Zombie Haters party. Harley Johns escaped but all his friends were killed by Fillmore Graves. Liv, Blaine, Don and Soldier Zack chowed down on Bo Johns' brain and the conspiracy theories were a-flowing. Zack's visions led Fillmore Graves to a cabin that turned out to be a trap. Clive and Liv found Harley hiding in a bunker under the cabin, shot him, realized he was being framed and turned into a Zombie. Major's new fun with Shawna was spoiled when she posted pics of their sex fort on tumblr and a break-up ensued. Peyton discovered Tatum Weckler was a zombie, found her father's missing SD card and uncovered that Mayor-Elect Floyd Baracus was involved in the dominatrix murders. Last Minute Reveal: Ravi saw a street-side newspaper headline and learned that Rachel, his new friend who he revealed all of his Zombie secrets to, was really an undercover journalist and she just published a full exposé on Zombies in Seattle!   Powerless - Aliens destroyed Emily's new condo. The team's unsuccessful attempts to cheer her up were compounded when Chairman Dean West told Emily she had to fire someone. Van became so depressed about not getting promoted that he let Teddy and Ronnie try giving him Flash powers, which turned out to be a prank. Emily fixed the budget to not fire someone but Dean West used that budget to sell Wayne Security to LexCorp. The team thought they were getting fired, but learned their new job benefits included nachos, spa treatments and dolphin swimming. Van stumbled onto the wormhole the aliens were coming from, and the team were going to be turned into nacho cheese, but Jackie saved the day with her new Flash powers. Last Minute Reveal: The team caught Dean West talking to a tree and learned that they might still have their jobs!

WHY YOU WILL LOVE IT: Every fan of fiction is aware of the trope of the "evil, sinister empire" i.e. the Empire in Star Wars. Oftentimes, when we are introduced to these totalitarian establishments, they are already fully in power and it's up to our hero to bring back order and peace. However, in Evil Empire, we explore how that would unfold in a real-world setting. How close to the precipice are we right now in the world we live in? Would we let it happen? More specific to this tale: Would we secretly want it to happen? WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Told through the perspective of an underground rapper named Reese, Max Bemis' gripping story explores a scenario in which we watch our modern society gradually evolve (or is it devolve?) into an evil empire. [rating:2/5] Major Spoilers Poll of the Week This time of year I notice a lot of people switching jobs, quitting jobs, or simply looking for opportunities to move ahead in the company.
