Karen Hinton is the author of PENIS POLITICS. She served as press secretary to Andrew Cuomo when he was federal Housing Secretary and later to NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio. She began her career as a reporter in Mississippi and Colorado; served as press secretary to Congressman Mike Espy; worked for the Democratic National Committee; and held various positions in communications and public relations. Hinton regularly contributes to the New York Daily News and other publications, focusing on the topics of #MeToo, sexual harassment, and skewering big oil, big banks, and other big bullies. A University of Mississippi graduate, Hinton and her husband divide their time between New Orleans and New York City.Penis Politics: A Memoir of Women, Men & Power offers an insider's view of what it's like to be a woman in the newsroom, the halls of Congress and the highest reaches of American political power through the eyes of Karen Hinton, a colorful and outspoken former journalist, political operative and seasoned media professional. The book opens with a sexual trauma that affects a close-knit group of girlfriends in rural Mississippi in the 1970s and traces Hinton's emergence as a journalist and an ambitious press secretary in Washington D.C. and New York.Hinton writes of the toxic brew of ego, entitlement, power, testosterone and “bro culture” in politics that is especially difficult for women to negotiate. She spells out through compelling storytelling how powerful men in politics often create a public image as a champion of women's rights and equality. Behind closed doors, they use gender domination to assert their power over women. www.penis-politics.comIntro music: High Life Richard Smithson See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Gabe Fleisher, the founder of Wake Up to Politics, joins host T.J. O'Hara on Deconstructed to talk about delivering political news in a meaningful and unbiased way. Mr. Fleisher is a bit of a political prodigy who became interested in politics during the 2008 presidential campaign at the age of six. Three years later, as a more experienced aficionado of the space, he launched a newsletter that first reached an audience of one (his mother) but now starts the days of over 50,000 subscribers in every state and dozens of countries. Wake Up to Politics is a quick and easy daily read that gives you all the essential facts you need to follow American politics… without any partisan bias or opinion. Mr. Fleisher (now a student at Georgetown University) explains how the newsletter is structured in segments that are designed to keep people informed of what is happening each day. He describes how it first addresses a single critical issue in slightly more depth, and then, provides insights into various policy issues before evolving into a glimpse of the day's calendar for various political leaders. He ends the newsletter with a section called, “Before I Go,” which lightens the mood with a brief overview of something meant to bring a smile to his readers' faces. The stories are all supported with links that allow interested individuals to easily seek additional details if they choose to do so. T.J. mentions some of the political leaders that Mr. Fleisher has already interviewed (a diverse group that includes President Biden, Speaker Pelosi, Senator Cruz and Paul, and former Secretary of State Clinton) and asks him to share what those experiences were like. The two also discuss the time Mr. Fleisher “scooped” The New York Times and The New York Post on then-NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio's plans to run for President; a journalistic coup that also earned him an interview with the mayor. T.J. then asks Mr. Fleisher to project what may be important stories in the areas of immigration, foreign policy, and the economy. The Administration's announcement of discontinuing Title 42 tops the list with respect to immigration, the Russia/Ukraine conflict, China, North Korea's missile testing, and the Iranian nuclear negotiations arise in the discussion of foreign affairs, and inflation looms large with regard to the economy. Near the end, Mr. Fleisher shares how he thinks younger generations may view politics. He doesn't pretend to speak for everyone but rather provides some insight into how “hate speech” regulations and censorship on social media platforms may impact political feelings. Listen to hear what Mr. Fleisher has to say… and then, consider whether you would like to Wake Up to Politics.

P*nis Politics: A Memoir of Women, Men And Power by Karen Hinton, a journalist and former press secretary to Andrew Cuomo and later to New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio, offers an insider's view of what it's like to be a woman in the newsroom, the halls of Congress and the highest reaches of American political power. The book is available on amazon.com. Hinton's memoir expands on her widely-read New York Daily News op-ed coining the term “p*nis politics” to describe how powerful men assert control over women in a vulnerable or subordinate position and the extensive media attention Hinton received over her revelations of Andrew Cuomo's sexual politics. Throughout the book, Hinton writes about the small, everyday abuses that some men use to magnify their power at home, in school, and in the office. She shows how penis politics negatively impacts girls and women's view of themselves and their options in life, saying that women are “damned if you speak up and damned if you shut up.” Known for never ducking a fight, Hinton was at the peak of her career in 2018 when a catastrophic brain injury propelled her into the battle of her life. Emerging from a coma, learning to walk, talk and write again, she was determined to “speak up, not shut up” on issues involving women, men and power. In P*nis Politics, Hinton writes of the toxic brew of ego, entitlement, and “bro-culture” that is especially difficult for women to navigate in politics. She reveals how certain well-known men create a public image as champions of women's rights and equality, but behind closed doors, they use gender domination to assert their authority. With unflinching candor, Hinton discusses the sexual trauma that affected her and her close-knit group of girlfriends in rural Mississippi in the 1970s. She goes on to describe her career as a journalist and then a political operative and press secretary, evading Bill Clinton's humiliating pickup attempt; maneuvering a tumultuous relationship with Southern writer Willie Morris; dragging highly-acclaimed author Bill Styron dead drunk out of her VW bug; and ultimately struggling with her headline-grabbing confrontations with former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio. “I learned lessons in penis politics throughout my life from my interactions with high school coaches and principals, boyfriends, college professors, newspaper editors, lovers, and politicians,” Hinton explains. “Along the way, I struggled to master strategies for dealing with men of power that many women will recognize from their own lives. While the details of their stories may vary from mine, what remains consistent are the ways in which misogyny, sex and discrimination shape how girls and women view themselves and their options.” Ultimately, what women want is to be treated with respect in their daily lives and as professionals in their work. Hinton's goal with P*nis Politics is to help change the way we treat each other. The book is an outspoken appeal to moving us in the right direction and a wake-up call for men to support the women in their lives. On Friday's Mark Levin Show, Mr. Call Screener and ‘This Is America' podcast host, Rich Valdes fills in for Mark Levin. The competition of good versus evil is more evident today than ever before, and not necessarily Democrat versus Republican. Ronald Reagan and Paul Harvey fought against evil and predicted the problems we face today. Our children and grandchildren are immersed in it, and we need to keep fighting for them and their future. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the radical left are always 10 steps ahead, getting to our children earlier and earlier, making it harder to fight the fire of socialism. Also, the media propaganda can't even cover for President Biden anymore despite how hard they've propped him up. More Americans than ever believe the media's primary goal is to push their own agenda instead of just telling the news. Mainstream media knows people aren't accepting their lies anymore and are panicking, like CNN firing hosts and producers to save their image. Democrats always use us as pawns to get to where they want us to go. Later, while our open southern border allows fentanyl to pour into our countries and destroy our communities, Biden and Anthony Fauci are preaching fear and death for the unvaccinated from COVID and the Omicron variant. The only problem is the math isn't adding up. NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio and others want to impede your pursuit of happiness, cutting you out of society unless you obey their mandates. Last week, the City Council approved giving voting rights to non-citizens. Additionally, NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio is requiring that all non-public or private school employees be vaccinated against COVID. Both these stories constrict liberty for citizens and should be resisted. We'll go into more detail in today's program. Then, looking at state news, many municipalities are opting out of pot dispensaries in their communities. If you're curious if your town or village has taken any action on this issue, we'll tell you how you can find out. In national news, conservatives scored a surprising win when the military draft requirement for women was dropped from the National Defense Authorization Act. We're celebrating this win.
