In this episode of UX Leadership By Design, host Mark Baldino speaks with Pablo Stanley. Pablo, a designer and artist, shares his journey from being a graffiti artist in his teenage years to becoming a creative director and founder of multiple companies. He discusses the challenges and triumphs of leading a team of creatives, including the balance between guiding them and allowing them to explore new ideas. Pablo also emphasizes the importance of bringing one's full self and passion to work, promoting work-life integration rather than separation. He highlights the benefits of integrating personal interests and hobbies into the creative process, leading to more motivated and efficient employees. Pablo thoughtfully emphasizes the importance of collaboration, autonomy, and allowing others to make decisions. Pablo also shares his perspective on AI in design, highlighting its potential to unblock creativity and free up time for more impactful work -- while acknowledging the concerns around AI and the need for ethical and legal regulations. Key TakeawaysThe transition from being an artist to a leader in the creative field can be gradual and natural, with experiences like being in a band or playing video games helping to develop skills in teamwork and collaboration.Leading a team of creatives requires finding a balance between guiding them and allowing them to explore new ideas, while also fostering trust and respect.Promoting work-life integration and allowing employees to bring their personal interests and passions into their work can lead to more motivated and efficient teams.Creatives often crave control and perfection, but it's important to embrace the culture of making mistakes and learning from them.Work should feel less like work and more like fun, where employees can bring their full selves and passion to what they do. Leadership involves bringing people together, fostering collaboration, and avoiding silos and isolation. As a leader, it's important to let go of control and allow others to contribute and make decisions.AI in design can unblock creativity and free up time for more impactful work, but human input is still necessary for selecting and refining ideas. There are concerns and ethical considerations around AI, particularly in terms of artists' work being used to train models without consent.Learn how Pablo's tool, Lumi, offers AI-generated assets for creative projects.Resources & LinksConnect with Pabloe on LinkedIn Pablo's AI design tool companies: https://musho.ai/ and https://www.lummi.ai/Fuzzy Math: fuzzymath.com Mark on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/markbaldino/

In this episode of UserTesting's Insights Unlocked podcast, Andy MacMillan talks with Pablo Stanley about AI's impact on design. Pablo is the founder or co-founder of several design brands, most recently Bueno and the Musho AI plugin for Figma. Previously he was a lead designer at InVision, as well as a staff designer at Lyft and Udemy. He teaches art and design on his YouTube channel Sketch Together, as well as supports the Latinx community through his projects Latinx Who Design and Dreamer Stories. “I am a techno-optimist,” Pablo said. “I believe in the potential of these tools to enhance our lives in general and, specifically, that of creative individuals, assisting them in taking their creations to a different level.” The pace of the change is happening quickly, he said, and some people may get caught in that disruption, including on the creative side, and get left behind. “It would be naive not to see the challenges this brings,” Pablo said. “The pace of the AI evolution is making traditional systems and industries slow to adapt, sometimes causing an existential crisis. So, there's going to be a transition period where a lot of people will be affected by this shift.
In this riveting episode of our podcast, I sit down with Pablo Stanley, a luminary in the world of design and a visionary at the intersection of technology and creativity. As a Latinx designer with an illustrious career spanning various high-impact roles—from the co-founder and CEO at Bueno and Blush to his groundbreaking work at Carbon Health, Lyft, InVision, and Udemy—Pablo shares his invaluable insights into the evolving landscape of design in the age of artificial intelligence. Diving deep into the future of design careers, Pablo illuminates how AI tools are not just tools of automation but beacons of innovation, opening new opportunities and frontiers for designers worldwide. His predictions for the industry are not only insightful but infused with a tech-optimistic outlook, envisioning a future where AI's speed, creative variety, and accessibility are fully embraced to enhance the creative process. Pablo's work with Musho (https://musho.ai) an AI design tool capable of transforming simple prompts into near-complete, development-ready websites, exemplifies his commitment to pushing the boundaries of what's possible in design. Alongside Musho, his involvement in Lummi (https://lummi.ai), an AI-generated image library, showcases his dedication to making design more accessible and streamlined. Beyond his professional achievements, Pablo's passion for community and education shines through his YouTube channel, Sketch Together, and his podcasts, including "Diseño Cha Cha Cha," where he interviews Latinxs in the tech industry. As the creative force behind projects like Open Peeps, Avataaars, Humaaans, Open Doodles, Bottts, and Buttsss, and as the writer and illustrator of “The Design Team” comic series, Pablo's influence on the design world is both profound and far-reaching. Join us for an inspiring conversation with Pablo Stanley, where we explore the future of design through the lens of AI, the power of creativity in technology, and the importance of inclusivity and accessibility in shaping the next generation of design tools. Whether you're a designer, engineer, or simply someone fascinated by the potential of AI, this episode promises to offer valuable perspectives on the transformative power of technology in the creative world.
