Passage: 12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” 13 So the Pharisees said to him, “You are bearing witness about yourself; your testimony is not true.” 14 Jesus answered, “Even if I do bear witness about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going, but you do not know where I come from or where I am going.” (John 8:12-14) Song: Light of the World by Lauren Daigle, Paul Duncan, and Paul Mabury Lyrics: The world waits for a miracle The heart longs for a little bit of hope O come O come Emmanuel A child prays for peace on earth And she's calling out from a sea of hurt O come O come Emmanuel And can you hear the angels singing Glory to the Light of the world Glory the Light of the world is here The drought breaks with the tears of a mother A baby's cry is the sound of love come down Come down Emmanuel woh He is the song for the suffering He is Messiah the Prince of peace has come He has come Emmanuel oh Glory to the light of the world Glory to the light of the world Glory to the light of the world Glory to the light of the world For all who wait for all who hunger For all who've prayed for all who wonder Behold your King behold Messiah Emmanuel Emmanuel Glory to the light of the world Glory to the light of the world Glory to the light of the world Behold your King behold Messiah Emmanuel Emmanuel The world waits for a miracle The heart longs for a little bit of hope O come O come Emmanuel Prayer: “Almighty God, and most merciful Father, we humbly submit ourselves, and fall down before your Majesty, asking you from the bottom of our hearts, that this seed of your Word now sown among us, may take such deep root, that neither the burning heat of persecution cause it to wither, nor the thorny cares of this life choke it. But that, as seed sown in good ground, it may bring forth thirty, sixty, or a hundredfold, as your heavenly wisdom has appointed. Amen.” — Middelburg Liturgy

In the 1000th edition of In Our Time, Melvyn Bragg and guests discuss arguably the most celebrated film of the Swedish director Ingmar Bergman (1918-2007). It begins with an image that, once seen, stays with you for the rest of your life: the figure of Death playing chess with a Crusader on the rocky Swedish shore. The release of this film in 1957 brought Bergman fame around the world. We see Antonius Block, the Crusader, realising he can't beat Death but wanting to prolong this final game for one last act, without yet knowing what that act might be. As he goes on a journey through a plague ridden world, his meeting with a family of jesters and their baby offers him some kind of epiphany. Have you ever wondered what power levels each Jedi from the Star Wars prequels would have been? I have found an excerpt from Star Wars Archives by Paul Duncan regarding a quote by George Lucas, followed by Nick Gillard (swordman choreography and stunts for prequels) who confirms that George Lucas had a power level system. These characters include, Anakin Skywalker in episode 2-3, Obi-Wan Kenobi episodes 1-3, Palpatine Ep 3 Revenge of the Sith, Yoda ep 3 Revenge of the Sith, Mace Windu episode 3 Revenge of the Sith, and more which I'll discuss from the originals (Luke, Vader, Sidious, Obi-Wan). I find this levelling system to be quite interesting as it puts into perspective how powerful each character was in comparison to one another. Learn more about your ad choices. Norfolk Southern is justifiably proud of the partnership it has forged with its craft unions. Executive Vice President and Chief Operatiing Officer Paul Duncan discusses the improvements and special programs that have been instituted at Norfolk Southern with Railway Age Editor-in-Chief William C. Vantuono. Among these are START (System Teamwork and Responsibility Training), and a training and mentoring program for new conductors that matches experienced railroaders with trainees. “We've got conductors that are more than willing to help train new folks and are very good at it. We work with our local chairman at the various locations where we're bringing on conductor trainees to ensure that we're matching them up with folks that match in personality traits as well as leadership,” Duncan says. Podcast sponsored by The Greenbrier Companies, which has teamed with Norfolk Southern to develop sustainable, high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel gondolas constructed of a lighter-weight steel that reduces unloaded weight by up to 15,000 pounds.

The Golden Age of Hollywood was a place of pioneers, storytellers, ideas, westward expansion, money, politics and scandal- the story of Hollywood is the story of America itself. At the turn of the 20th century, Hollywood in Los Angeles was a dusty country hamlet, but soon bright young things came from across the country and even the Atlantic to seek fame and fortune. One of them was Charlie Chaplin who became famous for his iconic Little Tramp character with his baggy trousers, bending cane and toothbrush moustache. In a lot of ways The Tramp was a mirror of Chaplin's own life- born into abject poverty in London, looking for something better, standing up for those without a voice. But Chaplin was of course a more complicated, darker character- his personal life was controversial and troubling- he had a number of relationships and marriages with teenagers whom he often met as children starring in his films. At the height of his fame, he was on the FBI's most wanted list under instruction from J Edgar Hoover and was eventually exiled from the USA, where he'd made his name. It's a long and complicated life and to help Dan untangle it is Paul Duncan, author of ‘The Charlie Chaplin Archives'. He's one of very few whose ever been granted full access to the archives of the Chaplin estate in Paris and Switzerland...Produced by Mariana Des Forges and edited by Dougal Patmore.Discover the past on History Hit with ad-free original podcasts and documentaries released weekly presented by world-renowned historians like Dan Snow, Suzannah Lipscomb, Lucy Worsley, Matt Lewis, Tristan Hughes and more. In the Star Wars Archives book by Paul Duncan, there's a quote from Carrie Fisher where she talks about her view of Leia and how Leia has anger when dealing with situations. I believe Leia would have been more powerful than Luke Skywalker had she trained, but I don't think she would have been as calm and collected so easily. I think she would need to train with Yoda really hard before fully being able to control her anger and emotions. I feel the Skywalker bloodline in her would get out of hand and if she didn't have a hold on it, could lead her down a path Luke can't follow. Learn more about your ad choices. In star wars return of the Jedi, we had the climactic conclusion of Anakin Skywalker and George Lucas star wars saga as we know it. The completion of the chosen one prophecy ended with Vader dying and Anakin being released into the force. The selfless sacrifice of Luke Skywalker catalyzed Anakin's return to save his son, overthrow the Emperor, and bring 'balance' to the force. The scene always makes me emotional (no surprise), so I find it awesome to read George Lucas' thoughts on that scene as he wrote it. Info comes from Paul Duncan's The Star Wars Archives book OT. Another awesome excerpt from Paul Duncan's The Star Wars Archives book. In this episode, I want to give my thoughts on this snippet where George Lucas talks about Yoda taking Luke's lightsaber to fight a monster on Dagobah in The Empire Strikes Back. I think this would have been pretty cool to see, and it would have shown us that Yoda still has it. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

George Lucas original sequel trilogy has been revealed from writer Paul Duncan, someone who knows George Lucas personally and has written some Star Wars books, including The Star Wars Archives Original Trilogy and Prequel Trilogy (which I have now ordered to extend my research on this matter). We are trying to get him on the podcast which would be really cool to learn and listen to his stories/experiences. The original sequel trilogy treatment, according to the book and Paul Duncan, was to have Darth Maul return with his apprentice Darth Talon to fight Luke Skywalker who banded together the remaining Jedi from Order 66 who had still survived after all this time. While several tunes have been used over the years, one of the most popular for the Advent season is HYFRIDOL, a lilting Welsh melody composed by Rowland Hugh Prichard in the early nineteenth century. Prayer: This is another day, O Lord. I know not what it will bring forth, but make me ready, Lord, for whatever it may be. If I am to stand up, help me to stand bravely. If I am to sit still, help me to sit quietly. If I am to lie low, help me to do it patiently. And if I am to do nothing, let me do it gallantly. Make these words more than words, and give me the Spirit of Jesus. Amen.

Norfolk Southern's TOP|SPG operating plan—which stands for Thoroughbred Operating Plan | Service Productivity Growth—has evolved from NS's previous plans, TOP 21 among them. Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Cindy Sanborn and Vice President Network Planning and Operations Paul Duncan join Railway Age Editor-in-Chief William C. Vantuono to talk about how TOP | SPG “isn't a radical change in how we work with our customers, but a shift in how we execute our operations to move their shipments more directly and consistently.” The biggest changes affect intermodal markets, NS's most time-sensitive business. TOP | SPG modifies about 90% of scheduled intermodal and merchandise trains “to reduce terminal congestion, improve network fluidity and create capacity for growth, ultimately simplifying the network through an operating plan with a high level of executability that will drive greater consistency and service improvements for customers.” Podcast sponsored by The Greenbrier Companies
BY: Paul Duncan DATE: Sunday 31 July 2022 BIBLE PASSAGES: 1 Timothy (Chapter 6, verse 11) Mathew (Chapter 5, verses 6) EXCERPT: Last week we explored what we need to run away from, and this week we explore the opposite – what we need to run towards. A father figure reminds his protege to chase after the truly important things in life. What does it look like to chase after what is really good, right, loving and gentle? What does it look like to pursue the things of God?

It's easy to read the beautiful, traditional story of Jesus' birth and forget how broken the entire situation is for its original participants - personally, politically, and socially. But the incarnation of God in the infant Jesus brings hope and victory to each one of those situations, and our own life situations today. Opening Song: Light of the World by Lauren Daigle, Paul Duncan, and Paul Mabury Lyrics: The world waits for a miracle The heart longs for a little bit of hope O come O come Emmanuel A child prays for peace on earth And she's calling out from a sea of hurt O come O come Emmanuel And can you hear the angels singing Glory to the Light of the world Glory the Light of the world is here The drought breaks with the tears of a mother A baby's cry is the sound of love come down Come down Emmanuel woh He is the song for the suffering He is Messiah the Prince of peace has come He has come Emmanuel oh Glory to the light of the world Glory to the light of the world Glory to the light of the world Glory to the light of the world For all who wait for all who hunger For all who've prayed for all who wonder Behold your King behold Messiah Emmanuel Emmanuel Glory to the light of the world Glory to the light of the world Glory to the light of the world Behold your King behold Messiah Emmanuel Emmanuel The world waits for a miracle The heart longs for a little bit of hope O come O come Emmanuel Passage: 2 “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.” 3 With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. 4 And you will say in that day: “Give thanks to the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted. 5 “Sing praises to the LORD, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth. 6 Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.” (Isaiah 12:2–6 ESV) Musical Reflection: Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus, tune by Rowland Hugh Prichard Reflection Notes: This jubilant Advent text was written by the well-known hymn writer, Charles Wesley. Amen.
