Efter 17 år som småbolagsförvaltare så beslöt sig Mats Gustafsson att lämna Lannebo Fonder 2022. Mats hade en tuff start på sin bana som fondförvaltare år 2000, vilket har präglat honom. Vi bjuds på en inblick hur sättningen efter IT-bubblan sedermera blev grunden till hans förvaltarfilosofi. Det handlar inte alltid om att hitta vinnarna, utan om att undvika förlorarna. Idag ägnar sig Mats åt privata investeringar, styrelsearbete samt hans hjärtefråga vilket är kampen mot diabetes.
Raoul Björkenheim, a Finnish-American guitarist and composer, has spent four decades crafting original music from New York City and Helsinki. Known for his expressionistic and lyrical guitar style, Raul calls his ongoing work "investigative guitarism." His eclectic discography spans over 50 albums, including ambient soundscapes and free jazz, with compositions ranging from duos to big bands. Though his large-scale works for symphony orchestra remain unrecorded, he has scored music for over ten films and dance productions. Collaborating with renowned musicians like Bill Laswell and Mats Gustafsson, Raul's work is featured on labels like ECM and Rune Grammofon. His accolades include the Georgie Prize, the Young Finland Award, the Emma Prize, and three Nordic Music Award nominations.

Esta semana, en una nueva sesión de Rebelión Sónica, destacamos al numeroso ensamble nórdico Fire! Orchestra, específicamente con material de su más reciente álbum “Echoes”. Editado el 14 de abril por el prestigioso sello noruego Rune Grammofon, se trata del sexto larga duración del colectivo, liderado por los músicos suecos Mats Gustafsson (saxo), Johan Berthling (bajo) y Andreas Werlin (batería), quienes iniciaron el proyecto en 2009 con la idea de desarrollar un nuevo enfoque de la música improvisada basándose en influencias del free jazz, el rock psicodélico y el noise. Según Rune Grammofon, “ahora en su decimocuarto año, Fire! Orchestra regresa con su trabajo más ambicioso hasta el momento, así como con su formación más numerosa, contando con un elenco mayoritariamente escandinavo de nada menos que 43 miembros. Esta semana, en una nueva sesión de Rebelión Sónica, destacamos el álbum 2022 que unió al prolífico músico experimental, compositor e instrumentista australiano Oren Ambarchi, con los músicos suecos, el bajista Johan Berthling y el baterista Andreas Werliin. Titulado “Ghosted” y editado el 15 de abril por el sello Drag City, se trata de la segunda colaboración entre Ambarchi y Berthling, tras el álbum a dúo de 2015, “Tongue Tied”. Ambos músicos además han trabajado juntos muchas veces dentro y fuera del escenario desde 2003, incluidos varios encuentros en el ensamble Fire! Orchestra con el mismo Werliin y el saxofonista Mats Gustafsson. Los preparativos para “Ghosted” comenzaron en noviembre de 2018, cuando Ambarchi, Berthling y Werliin se reunieron en el Estudio Rymden en Estocolmo, Suecia. Tras el proceso de grabación, el disco fue mezclado y masterizado por Joe Talia en Good Mixture de Berlín. Esta semana, en una nueva entrega de Rebelión Sónica, los invitamos a escuchar dos discos que se relacionan por la figura del importante compositor, vientista, improvisador y figura señera del jazz actual, Rob Mazurek. En primer lugar, destacamos “Dimensional Stardust”, séptimo álbum del ensamble liderado por el cornetista estadounidense, Exploding Star Orchestra (ESO), que fue editado el 20 de noviembre de 2020, en conjunto por los sellos International Anthem y Nonesuch Records. “Dimensional Stardust” tiene sus orígenes en 2018, cuando la curadora del JazzFest de Berlín, Nadin Deventer, invitó a Mazurek a presentar una nueva versión de ESO al festival, con músicos tanto de la ciudad alemana y de Chicago, lugar de base del vientista. Cuando Mazurek retornó a Chicago en el verano de 2019, International Anthem aprovechó la oportunidad para capturar las nuevas composiciones con un elenco de colaboradores de su constelación colectiva de artistas. (Lean una entrevista reciente con este último, en el siguiente enlace) Editado el 29 de enero de 2021 por el sello Blue Chopsticks, subsidiario de Drag City, el álbum incluye cerca de 90 minutos de música “intensamente enfocada”, que fue registrada en vivo en shows hechos por el trío en enero de 2020 en Francia, Bélgica, Italia y Polonia. “If you look at any women's organization that started in the 70s, and still is around today, each one of them has their story of how they - if they - made the transition to be trans inclusive.” In this episode of Mirror and a Flashlight, we'll hear from Jess and Jubi, two former Collective members, Terri, a Collective member we heard from back in episode one, and Riley, a community member, all of whom were instrumental in helping CWHC work to become a trans inclusive organization. This episode is a focus on Table Of The Elements, an obscure american record label. It was founded by music producer and graphic designer Jeff Hunt in 1993 and has released the work of experimental and avant-garde musicians such as John Cale, Tony Conrad and La Monte Young, Loren Mazzacane Connors, Derek Bailey, Rhys Chatham and Mats Gustafsson. Each catalogue number is composed by a symbol taken from the periodic Table of the elements associated with its atomic number. "Table of the Elements are to the 21st century what CRI was to the 1960s and Lovely Music to the 1980s — fearless purveyors of the wildest stuff around." The final Burning Ambulance podcast of 2018 is a very special episode. Back in May, I went to Norway for the Nutshell jazz showcase and interviewed several Norwegian jazz artists – that was in episode 19. And just a couple of weeks ago, at the end of November, I went back to Norway, for the 20th anniversary of the Rune Grammofon label. Rune Grammofon is a fantastic label that has put out albums by Motorpsycho, Supersilent, Arve Henriksen, Bushman’s Revenge, Elephant9, Fire!, Maja Ratkje, the Espen Eriksen Trio, the Hedvig Mollestad Trio and many, many others. To celebrate their 20th anniversary, the founder and label owner, Rune Kristoffersen, booked two nights of shows at National Jazz scene, a club in Oslo. The first night featured Maja Ratkje and Motorpsycho, and the second night featured Fire! and the Hedvig Mollestad Trio. And I was one of the foreign journalists invited to come over and see the shows, because I’ve been a supporter of the label for a long time – I’ve reviewed their releases for The Wire and for Burning Ambulance, I interviewed Arve Henriksen for a cover story back when BA had a print magazine, et cetera, et cetera. I wrote a review of the concerts for Down Beat, which you can read on their website, and while I was in Oslo I interviewed Rune, Maja, Bent Saether from Motorpsycho, Mats Gustafsson from Fire!, and Hedvig Mollestad, and you’ll hear all of those conversations, as well as music from each of them, in this episode. Tres propuestas alrededor del free y la improvisación suenan en la entrega 417 de HDO. Paal Nilssen-Love expande su formación Large Unit hasta llegar a 27 componentes con la incorporación de los Intuitive People, para dar lugar a la Extra Large Unit. La formación publica More Fun (PNL) en el sello del baterista, una grabación de poco más de treinta minutos en la que esta formación desarrolla la música de Nilssen-Love. La dupla formada por el saxofonista François Carrier y el baterista Michel Lambert cuenta con la colaboración del guitarra bajo Rafal Mazur en el CD Beyond Dimensions (FMR Records). De senaste åren tycks intresset för stumfilm ökat bland musiker - det görs återigen ny musik till gamla stumfilmsklassiker. Stumfilmen är inte en så död konstart som man kanske lätt skulle kunna tro. På senare år har allt fler musiker börjat intressera sig för genren. Det handlar om nykomponerad musik till gamla filmklassiker, med ny sättning och ibland också nya tolkningar av filmen. El grupo holandés The Ex, uno de los favoritos de Pachi Tapiz, presentador, editor y productor de HDO, acaba de publicar el doble CD The Ex at Bimhuis (1991-2015) (Ex REcords - Bimhuis, 2015) en el que se recoge una selección de temas grabados en el mítico local holandés. Una de las características de este doble CD es que a lo largo de todos los temas (24 en total), aparecen acompañados por músicos de la escena jazzística e improvisadora tanto holandesa como internacional. Algunos nombres bien conocidos y reconocidos que suenan en la selección de nueve temas son los de Mats Gustafsson, Ken Vandermark, Han Bennink, John Butcher, Xavier Charles, Wolter Wierbos, Michael Vatcher, Steve Beresford, Claude Deppa, Phil Minton o Roy Paci. Monográfico Agustí Fernández en este 'Club de Jazz' del 1 de enero de 2014 para celebrar el espléndido 2013 del pianista, en el que recibió el Premi Nacional de Cultura de la Generalitat de Catalunya y en el que aparecieron en torno a una decena de grabaciones con su participación. A lo largo del programa escucharemos la música de los tríos Aurora, con A moment's liberty (junto a Barry Guy y Ramón López), Liquid Trio (junto a Ramon Prats y Albert Cirera), WRY (con Ilan Manouach e Ivo Sans) o el que compartió con Mats Gustafsson (sx) y Ramón Prats (bt) en el Jamboree de Barcelona. Esta última grabación, Breaking the lab, tuvo lugar durante su carta blanca del mes de abril en este club barcelonés, de la que procede también Live at Jamboree, junto al Free Art Ensemble. Dentro de la grandes formaciones, Agustí ha participado también con la Banda d'Improvisadors de Barcelona así como en la Barry Guy New Orchestra y sus Mad Dogs. En solitario el pianista ha presentado su homenaje a Joan Saura en A trace of ligtht (que se puede escuchar íntegro aquí). Un festín de improvisación con músicos como Agustí Fernández, Mats Gustafsson, Johannes Bauer y más. En esta edición de "Club de Jazz" del 1 de mayo de 2013 tejemos una fascinante conexión operística entre "Experiencing Tosca" del trío Tethered Moon (con Paul Motian, Masabumi Kikuchi y Gary Peacock) y "Down deep" de Harmen Fraanje, Mola Sylla y Ernst Reijseger. De este último escuchamos también su encuentro con el grupo de Islas Reunión Groove Lélé en "Zembrocal musical". En el "Jazz Porteño" de Alberto Varela seguimos escuchando la actuación de Carlos Carli en la pasada edición del Festival de Jazz de Punta del Este (Uruguay) y en "desde mi cadiera", con Jesús Moreno, descubrimos "What it is!", el nuevo trabajo del percusionista Kahil El´Zabar. P1 tisdag 21 oktober kl 14.03 och 22/10 kl 18.15 Är festivalen fortfarande en viktig mötesplats för gamla och nya uttryck?Nya vågen diskuterar idag läget för den svenska jazzen, mot bakgrund av att den här veckan firar 40-årsjubileum. Under de gångna decennierna har alla de stora legenderna med Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie och Miles Davis i spetsen besökt festivalen. Men vad är egentligen jazz nu för tiden? Behövs det kanske en ny definition i dagens musikvärld där spännvidden mellan uttrycken bara ökar? I studion diskuterar saxofonisten och improvisationsmusikern Mats Gustafsson, som också är festivalens hedersgäst tillsammans med sångerskan och kompositören Sofia Jernberg och Lennart Strömbäck, som är konstnärlig ledare för Umeå Jazzfestival. Nya Vågen tittar också närmare på två nya konstnärliga samarbeten med musikaliska förtecken. I studion fotograferna Lars Tunbjörk och Elin Berge. Jaap Blonk is a self-taught composer, vocal performer and sound poet. As a vocalist, Blonk has performed around the globe exciting audiences with his powerful stage presence and childlike improvisation. Live electronics have over the years extended the scope and range of his concerts. Besides working as a soloist, he has collaborated with many musicians and ensembles, including Maja Ratkje, Mats Gustafsson, Nicolas Collins, Joan La Barbara, The Ex, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble and the Ebony Band. He was the founder and leader of the long-standing bands Splinks (modern jazz, 1983-1999) and BRAAXTAAL (avant-rock, 1987-2005). We talk here about the noises humans make that aren't words, how important they are in communication, and the way sound poetry utilizes them; about meaning found in intonation and getting booed, the pleasure of inventing structures, Dadaism and the breaking of rules, Johnny Van Doorn and A Bridge too Far, the international phonetic alphabet, pitch, timber and the best English language sound poets.
