It focuses on values, principles, and doctrine instead of every specific behavior. The Lord, through His prophets, has always been guiding us in that direction. He is pleading with us to “increase [our] spiritual capacity to receive revelation.”14 He is inviting us to “hear Him.”15 He is calling us to follow Him in higher and holier ways.16 And we are learning in a similar way every week in Come, Follow Me.       ACU Endorsed Charities -------------------------------------------------------- Pre-Born! It's a sacrificial love that embraces all people regardless of race or religion. We believe that we can show His love by serving the “least of these” on this earth as Christ challenged us to do in Matthew 25. For over 50 years, For the Strength of Youth has been a guide for generations of Latter-day Saint youth. I always keep a copy in my pocket, and I share it with people who are curious about our standards. It has been updated and refreshed to better cope with the challenges and temptations of our day. The new version of For the Strength of Youth is available online in 50 different languages and will also be available in print. It will be a significant help for making choices in your life. Please embrace it as your own and share it with your friends. This new version of For the Strength of Youth is subtitled A Guide for Making Choices. To be very clear, the best guide you can possibly have for making choices is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the strength of youth. So the purpose of For the Strength of Youth is to point you to Him. It teaches you eternal truths of His restored gospel—truths about who you are, who He is, and what you can accomplish with His strength. It teaches you how to make righteous choices based on those eternal truths.13 It's also important to know what For the Strength of Youth does not do. It doesn't make decisions for you. It doesn't give you a “yes” or “no” about every choice you might ever face. For the Strength of Youth focuses on the foundation for your choices. For a list of 100+ episodes of ACU Sunday Series visit- https://www.podbean.com/site/search/index?kdsowie31j4k1jlf913=85cb8104bdb182c048b714ad4385f9e82a3aeb49&v=ACU+Sunday+Series+ Note- Click on “100 Episodes Found” in upper right corner.   Endorsed Charities -------------------------------------------------------- Pre-Born! Robert Millet is joined today by Craig Blomberg, Emeritus Distinguished Professor of New Testament at Denver Seminary. The pair discussed several of Jesus' parables, as found in Matthew 13; Luke 12:13-21; and Luke 16:19-31, which are covered in the New Testament Come, Follow Me curriculum on 3/20-26, as well as 4/10-16. Millet and Blomberg spoke about many of Jesus' most well-known parables, including the parable of the Sower, the Wheat and the Tares, The Laborers in the Vineyard, the Good Samaritan, the Rich Fool, the Lost Coin, the Prodigal Son, and the Lost Sheep. A key point for each of these mini-discussions, was recognizing the context in which each parable was given- where Jesus was, who he was speaking to, and what was happening in his ministry at that moment. They also discussed how these parables relate to each other, how each of their respective faith traditions would interpret the parable, and the details that are personally meaningful for each of them. Millet and having “same boat therapy” Recognizing that there are difficulties in the calling but moments that made it worth it Fisher missions vs hunter missions: some fantastic stories from great moments, but difficult days, weeks, and months between 31:30 Calling ward members each evening on their birthday was a simple, routine thing that became important for connecting 34:30 Working with youth: firesides are different than teaching a class Taught Sunday School with his wife after serving as bishop, and went back to the simple idea that you have to care for them first Put people in place with the youth who are great examples; youth learn by example, not principles 37:10 Kids will listen differently to a speaker at a fireside because they don’t think that the speaker was influenced by what their parents or leaders are saying (“An expert is anybody from out of town”) 39:30 Stephen Covey: the order of the events in the restoration is a formula for solving life’s problems. Start with identity and relationships. “If we want to help our children or other people change their behavior, we begin by improving the quality of our relationships with them, and we introduce new ideas before we introduce new expectations and controls. In other words, we help them see the world differently. When a person’s paradigm changes, everything else changes with it.” 44:25 His book about Moroni: Moroni didn’t get to how to run the Church until Moroni chapter 6 46:00 Working with Meg Johnson and Hank Smith Links John Bytheway at Deseret Book John Bytheway, Meg Johnson, and Hank Smith's OurTurtleHouse.com Falling Up Six Events: The Restoration Model for Solving Life's Problems, by Stephen R. I first met Phillip almost 4 years ago when my family moved to Spokane. He and his family quickly became one of my favorite families, and I learned quickly that Phillip would give the shirt off his back to me or anyone else in need if he can. I reached out to him to see if he wanted to have this conversation based on a health scare he had less than a year ago. And that story was good, but I learned so much more about him and about life and overcoming tough life experiences through this conversation than I ever figured I would learn. It really is good stuff, and I am very grateful to him for having this conversation and sharing some wisdom with me. We follow him through his childhood in Florida, into his youth and young adulthood. His marriage and family. We talk of what is most important to him and what message he wants to share with those who come after him. Here are the links to the two books he mentioned as having a lot of importance and influence in his life: Eat Mor Chikin: Inspire More People: Doing Business the Chick-fil-A Way by Truett Cathy. https://www.amazon.com/Eat-Mor-Chikin-Business-Chick-fil/dp/1929619081/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3VF3PPVJUUSJS&keywords=eat+mor+chikin+inspire+more+people&qid=1559001726&s=gateway&sprefix=eat+mor+ch%2Caps%2C203&sr=8-1 When a Child Wanders by Robert L. Robert L. Millet was the Abraham O. Smoot Professor of Ancient Scripture at Brigham Young University and has spent years engaging in interfaith dialogue with scholars of many religious traditions. He has often been asked the core question: “Are Mormon’s Christian?” His answer is echoed in a recent Gospel Topics essay on LDS.org resolutely declaring, “Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints unequivocally affirm themselves to be Christians.” The early members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints may have been considered peculiar, but they were rarely accused of not being Christian. The current argument against Mormonism's Christianity is based on three observations: 1) Latter-day Saints do not accept the creeds, confessions, and formulations of post-New Testament Christianity. 2) The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does not descend through the historical line of traditional Christianity. That is, the LDS Church did not break off of the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, or Protestant traditions. 3) Latter-day Saints do not believe in a closed canon. In this LDS Perspectives Podcast, host Nick Galieti asks Robert Millet to clarify distinctions of doctrine, to suggest how members of the LDS Church can use the “Are Mormon’s Christian?” Gospel Topics essay, and to comment on why members of the LDS Church should embrace what is both unique about LDS theology and what they share with other Christian faiths.
