All of them. Play me a song, Mr. Wolfman Jack, because if you want to remember, you better write down the names. Bob Dylan turned 83 on Friday. All of him did. All of them did. All the personae, the entire kaleidoscope of masks, the false fronts and head fakes, and, finally, the last, and in many ways, best of them all. The travelling storyteller, the seanchai as the people in the old country would call him. Out on the endless tour, up the endless highway. I think of him and I think of Turlough O'Carolan, the legendary blind Irish harper who would travel the countryside, composing his songs on the spot for whomever would give him food and drink. When Dylan dropped "Murder Most Foul," virtually out of a clear blue sky, blessing us with it as consolation for the years when America had gone so terribly wrong, it was Homer of whom I thought, poet and historian both, protector of the shadowland between myth and reality, chronicler of what Greil Marcus called "the old, weird America," a phrase I wish I'd written. Ryan Orr is a MiLB Strength and Conditioning Coach in the Los Angeles Angels organization. He played NAIA baseball and shoulder injuries derailed his career which led him to wanting to pursue a job where he could help people avoid the same problems he faced as an athlete. He received his masters degree from the University of Arkansas where he helped out with the Men's Basketball team. While at Arkansas, he was also volunteering with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, a Double-A Affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. After spending some time as the Interim Head Strength Coach for the Men's Basketball team, he took a full time job with the LA Angels. In this episode, we dive deep into Ryan's background and how sports influenced his life growing up. We talk about some of the major similarities and differences between the college setting and the professional setting as well as the similarities and differences of baseball and basketball. Finally, we get into the characteristics that high performers share opposed to non-high performers and he talks about his stance on bench press for baseball players. In this Episode Ryan discusses touches and asks a tough question, HOW MANY HOURS are you really working? Or is it preparation. Be real, and true with yourself as we ask the questions. If you want to grow your business, I would listen and BE REAL! Nearly 20 years ago, Ryan J. Orr was signing documents to refinance his home, when the escrow officer asked him why he was wearing a suit. It happened that Ryan was a recent college graduate on his way to a career fair. “Let me get the sales manager,” the escrow officer said. Ryan was hired 30 days later, and he says he has never looked back.Ryan dedicated himself to learning his craft, and his new career took off. “I knew I could get away with not knowing a lot to start, but I needed to invest in my career and be educated to know as much or more than my clients — or if I didn’t know something, I wanted the resources to know who to turn to. So, I joined chambers of commerce, went back to school and took real estate classes, and got involved with leadership in local professional associations. False North is an Arizona based, alternative rock band consisting of Sean Wilson (vocals/guitar), Ryan Orr (lead guitar), Conner Libera (backing vocals/bass), and Greg Grandlienard (drums/percussion). In late summer of 2013, Conner approached Ryan and Sean proposing they form a band. The two quickly agreed, and Conner recruited his former roommate, Greg, to play drums. Inspired by bands such as The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Brand New, Modest Mouse, and The Kooks, False North combines buzz-chimed tones with melodic lyrics and harmonies to create a modern sound all their own. Though False North gained a following after self-releasing their homemade demo in November 2013, it would not be until March of the next year that the band would play their first live show. False North has since had an abundance of live performances, including concerts at Phoenix venue the Pressroom and Flagstaff's Orpheum Theatre.
