Show notes provided by Joe PelusoIn the late Summer of 1996 DC Comics decided to dim the lights byblowing out the Sun! A cosmic force known as The Sun-Eater (first seenway back in Adventure Comics #352 from November 1966!) came calling to snuff out all life on Earth! Chronicled in a weekly event, the storywas entitled "The Final Night".And it sure as heck would've been, ifnot for the timely, last minute intervention of a once great seminalhero who had recently gone rogue. Join hosts James, Chris, and Joe as they "shed light on" (Sorry,Chris, you know--low-hanging fruit.) on a new DC event that taxedEarth's greatest heroes in a race to save the world from becoming apopsicle. All kidding aside, this fast-paced saga had major stakes, major tragedies, and major repercussions for the DCU. Seven days to restart the sun, or all life on Earth perishes.Superman, cut off from solar rays, is weakening by the day. KyleRayner, Earth's only Green Lantern, chucks a "Hail Mary" like BretFarve into space to convince the one and only capable "entity"Parallax (Hal Jordan ) to save the Earth. Lex Luthor is brought in towork with Brainiac 5. And Batman, as usual, multitasks. It's a fun event told in four issues, one special issue, and oneaftermath remembrance issue, with limited tie-ins, that doesn't breakthe banks of loyal DC fans. Also there are some "heavy" discussions onthe meaning of heroes and villains, and loss and redemption, that wethink you will find quite interesting. It's been thirty years sincethis story dropped. No alternate dimensions, maddening multiverses, ortime travel trickery, just a solid story of survival on both the grandand human scale.
1. JOSEPHUS AND THE SIEGE OF JODAPATA Guest: Professor Barry Strauss The Jewish revolt against Rome, starting in 66 AD, is primarily chronicled by Josephus, a leader of the revolt and later historian. Josephus commanded the defense of Jodapata against General Vespasian. After defeat, Josephus survived a mass suicide pact, surrendered, and convinced Vespasian not to kill him by predicting he would become Roman emperor. The rebels were inspired by previous victories like the Maccabees. 1922 GAZA

I am back today with Luke Iorio and we kick off Act 2 by diving headfirst into the deep end of personal growth and manhood. Luke, a seasoned veteran in the world of personal development, dishes out some serious wisdom on vulnerability, transformation, and the art of men's work. Together, we uncover the magic of genuine connections and the transformative power of what Luke calls "soul ships" - those relationships that don't let us off the hook easily. As we wrap up, Luke leaves us with a gem: the journey to true freedom and authenticity is paved with friendships that challenge and uplift us.Bio: Luke is a dad, a husband, an entrepreneur, sought-after coach, and adventurer – of this great land and of the human spirit (especially his own). His journey has included working for his own father, starting and running his own small consulting practice, and then going on to join, build, and lead as CEO one of the largest and most prestigious coach training organizations in the world, iPEC.Since iPEC, Luke's personal work – when he's not with his family or with a private client – led him beyond the modern practice, science and research that drove his work in coaching, to exploring various wisdom, spiritual, and indigenous traditions as he sought to re-connect to his passion, a deeper purpose and calling, and grow himself to be of more service.Chronicled on the podcast series On This Walk with Luke Iorio, this path after several years led Luke to his current business partner and the organization, Man on Fire Rising. Man on Fire is a men's personal growth organization focused on helping men rise with passion, power, and purpose. Last week, the state broke ground on its costliest and most controversial project aimed at rebuilding Louisiana's degraded coastline and maintaining the marsh as sea levels continue to rise. Located in Plaquemines Parish, the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion will totally alter the landscape off the parish's west bank. The Coastal Desk's Halle Parker joins to tell us more about the project and the future of Louisiana's coastal restoration efforts. Robert Darrow, managing director and artistic director of the Shreveport Little Theatre, and Sherry Kerr, a former board member of the theater, tell us the story of the century-old community theater, which has the distinction of being the first place where comedian George Carlin took the stage as an actor. LPB premieres a documentary about the theater's storied history on Monday, August 21. When Cullman County, Alabama was founded in 1873 it was advertised as a place with “No Blacks and No Indians.” Its largest city was a sundown town. But one of the oldest communities in Cullman county was a safe haven for Black people in the state and in some ways still is. Last year, WBHM's Kyra Miles talked to residents of “Colony” about its rich history and present. We give that conversation a second listen. Today's episode of Louisiana Considered was hosted by Adam Vos. Our managing producer is Alana Schreiber. Our engineers are Garrett Pittman and Aubry Procell. I have the honour of having, as a featured guest, the esteemed Jillian Lauren; one of the women responsible for bringing Samuel Little to justice. Yes, the Samuel Little. None other than the premier serial killer in all of North America.Only the Green River Killer ever came close to matching Little's kill count. Samuel Little, who went under the radar as a serial killer for decades, has admitted to murdering 93 innocent women. You can rest assured that I will feature a series dedicated to his life and crimes in later episodes, but in this episode I have the pleasure of discussing the case, and other topics, with Jillian Lauren.Jillian Lauren is a writer, storyteller and adoption advocate, with a love for kickboxing. She is the New York Times bestselling author of the memoirs Everything You Ever Wanted and SOME GIRLS: My Life in a Harem as well as the novel Pretty. SOME GIRLS, in which she recounts her time spent in the harem of the Prince of Brunei, has been translated into eighteen languages. She is also the only journalist so far who have extensively interviewed Samuel Little, the most prolific serial killer in North American history. This experience is what solidified her immense passion for using her platform in the realm of True Crime journalism to prioritize the rights of the surviving families of deceased victims.Chronicled in Joe Berlinger's hit STARZ documentary series, CONFRONTING A SERIAL KILLER, and in Michael Connelly's podcast MURDER BOOK: The Women Who Brought Down Samuel Little, Ms Lauren shines a light on the importance of justice for the people who loved those lost to violent tragedies.Become a Patron today: https://www.patreon.com/theserialkillerpodcastWebsite: https://www.theserialkillerpodcast.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/theskpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/serialkillerpodTwitter: https://twitter.com/serialkillerpodSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-serial-killer-podcast. The Story Chronicled, Confessed, and Completed (Matthew 1:1-17) | 042422 by One Ancient Hope Presbyterian Church
One of the earliest chronicled winter storms to strike upstate New York after the Revolution, was the strong system that impacted the region on March 31, 1807. The Herald in Cooperstown , NY reported, and I quote “The wind roared in the forests similar to the sound of the great cataract, the air was alternately filled with snow and transient gleams from the sun.” Along the Atlantic coast high winds and rain was the scene in New York Harbor, The New York Post described the situation. From it's pages it said: “Amidst the bustle along the ports, in securing vessels and getting out fenders, were seen hundreds with their dogs, killing rats, which had been routed by the high tide. Hardly a terrier in the city was unemployed; and we may safely say, not less than 1000 rats were destroyed on the eastside of town. Though this remark may, by some, be considered unworthy of notice, it will be of use, if a proper use of it – that is, by removing the carcasses of the animals before the sun operates on them.” See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
