Listen to us as we discuss the 1982 film Poltergeist. If you would like to give us feedback on how were doing follow us at: https://beacons.ai/senornerdpodcast https://www.instagram.com/senornerdpodcast/ @senornerdpod on Twitter Poltergeist is a 1982 American supernatural horror film directed by Tobe Hooper and written by Steven Spielberg, Michael Grais and Mark Victor from a story by Spielberg. It stars JoBeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson and Beatrice Straight, and was produced by Spielberg and Frank Marshall. The film focuses on a suburban family whose home is invaded by malevolent ghosts that abduct their youngest daughter. As Spielberg was contractually unable to direct another film while he made E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Hooper was selected based on his work on The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Funhouse. Spielberg conceived Poltergeist as a horror sequel to his 1977 film Close Encounters of the Third Kind titled Night Skies; however, Hooper was less interested in the sci-fi elements and suggested they collaborate on a ghost story.[3] Accounts differ as to the level of Spielberg's involvement, but it is clear that he was frequently on set during filming and exerted significant creative control. For that reason, some have expressed the view that Spielberg should be considered the film's co-director or even main director, though both Spielberg and Hooper have disputed this. Released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer through MGM/UA Entertainment Co. on June 4, 1982, Poltergeist was a major critical and commercial success, becoming the eighth-highest-grossing film of 1982. In the years since its release, the film has been recognized as a horror classic. It was nominated for three Academy Awards, named by the Chicago Film Critics Association as the 20th-scariest film ever made, and the scene of the clown doll attack was ranked as No. 80 on Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments.[4][5] Poltergeist also appeared at No. 84 on American Film Institute's 100 Years...100 Thrills, a list of America's most heart-pounding movies.[6] The film was followed by Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986), Poltergeist III (1988), and a poorly-received 2015 remake. Steve and Diane Freeling live in the planned community of Cuesta Verde, California. Steve is a successful real estate agent, and Diane looks after their three children: 16-year-old Dana, 8-year-old Robbie, and 5-year-old Carol Anne. Late one night, Carol Anne inexplicably converses with the family's television set while it displays post-broadcast static. The next night, she again fixates on the television, and a ghostly white hand emerges from the screen, followed by a violent earthquake. As the family is shaken awake by the quake, Carol Anne eerily declares, "They're here." Plot[edit]

IT'S GETTING HELLA SCARY AND DANG UNNERVING IN HERE! It's time for Part 3 of THE event of Spooky Season, covering picks 45 to 21. Once again, this is the official 101 ACTUAL Scariest Movie Moments. Those previous Bravo and Shudder shows aren't the real deal. Actually, I have to admit that even WE lied during Parts 1 and 2, because those picks weren't nearly as scary. I still want you to listen to those episodes, because we put a lot of work into them, but, holy cow, they're already so outdated. IT'S TWO TIMES THE TERROR AND DOUBLE THE DREAD! We're back with part two of THE event of Spooky Season. Once again, this is the official 101 ACTUAL Scariest Movie Moments. Don't be fooled by imitators, even if they are professional filmmakers and scholars paid by the deep pockets at Bravo and Shudder. Actually, watch those shows, too, then listen to Part 1 of our list, then come back here and check out Part 2 and prepare yourself for Parts 3 and 4. STEP ASIDE PAID EXPERTS, IT'S TIME TO HEAR FROM THE REAL EXPERTS – TWO GUYS WITH A PODCAST! Inspired by the classic Bravo TV countdown documentary and its improved Shudder-branded follow-up, Gabe and returning guest Patrick Ripoll of Tracks of the Damned and 96 Greers have compiled the official Genre Grinder list of the Top 101 ACTUAL Scariest Movie Moments. That title is a joke, of course, because those older specials already covered a load of classic titles, meaning that the challenge here was to explore 101 different movie moments. Hopefully, listeners are in for some pleasant surprises in this, Part 1 of a planned four-part series. 00:00 – Intro 09:37 – Numbers 101 - 81 1:32:27 – Soda break 1:33:44 – Numbers 80 - 71 2:24:06 – Outro If you are in a position to make the world a better place, please consider the following fundraisers: Hawaiʻi People's Fund (Maui recovery): https://hawaiipeoplesfund.networkforgood.com/projects/200566-maui-aloha-the-people-s-response-fund Kākoʻo Maui Fund (Maui recovery): https://www.memberplanet.com/campaign/cnhamembers/kakoomaui Equality Florida: https://www.eqfl.org/ Donations 4 Abortions (state by state abortion funds): https://donations4abortion.com/

Happy Monday, Goons! For our 3rd pick here on our Slashers Podcast Brutal Summer, Jason and Ade are joined by Lance to discuss 2010's South Korean bloody action thriller, I Saw the Devil, starring Old Boy, himself, Choi Min-Sik, and GI Joe's Lee Byung-hun. The film was directed by Kim Jee Woo, who you may know from the creepy A Tale of Two Sisters (way better than its remake, The Uninvited) and Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Last Stand. The film follows a secret agent who exacts revenge on his wife's killer. As Jason said, “It's not as bad as Inside. Or Oldboy. Think of it as a brutal Taken.” If you haven't seen this one yet, we highly recommend you watch before listening, as spoilers are peppered in throughout the entire episode. It is also featured on Shudder's AMC 101 Scariest Movie Moments, so it definitely hits hard. We also talk about Doug's actual family ties to the Mafia (I knew it all along) and why I should watch my back from now on. A zookeeper on set to tame baboons was mauled to death by a lion the day after completing their work. – Most tragically, though, after filming was completed, special effects director John Richardson and his assistant, Liz Moore, were involved in a serious car accident. The Omen is a 1976 American-British supernatural horror film directed by Richard Donner, written by David Seltzer, and starring Gregory Peck, Lee Remick, David Warner, Harvey Spencer Stephens, Billie Whitelaw, Patrick Troughton, Martin Benson, and Leo McKern. Its plot follows Damien Thorn, a young child replaced at birth by an American ambassador unbeknownst to his wife, after their biological child dies shortly after birth. As a series of mysterious events and violent deaths occur around the family and Damien enters childhood, they come to learn he is in fact the prophesied Antichrist. Released theatrically by 20th Century Fox in June 1976, The Omen received mixed reviews from critics but was a commercial success, grossing over $60 million at the U.S. box office and becoming one of the highest-grossing films of 1976. The film earned two Oscar nominations, and won for Best Original Score for Jerry Goldsmith, his only Oscar win. A scene from the film appeared at #16 on Bravo's The 100 Scariest Movie Moments. The film spawned a franchise, starting with Damien: Omen II, released two years later, followed by a third installment, Omen III: The Final Conflict, in 1981, and in 1991 with Omen IV: The Awakening. A remake was released in 2006.

(originally published on Oct 30) If you're in a state of post-Halloween blues, and aren't ready to let go of spooky season just yet, this is the episode for you. Matt, Sal, and (briefly) David discuss horror films, Stephen King's theory of why people enjoy horror fiction, H.P. Lovecraft being a racist weirdo, Sal's eccentric cousin, Tahoe Tessie, "extreme haunted house" McKamey Manor, and short stories and music to enjoy for Halloween. Excuse the slight crackle in the audio, don't know what happened. Extra Stuff Fun fact I forgot to bring up during the pod: the voice of the killer in "Scream" was provided by Roger L. Jackson, a voice actor also known for voicing Mojo Jojo on "Powerpuff Girls." And: "Scary Movie" was the original working title for "Scream," ironically. Russ McKamey does charge for his "service": one bag of dog food. And: no one knows if the $20K prize is legit since no one's ever made it through to the end of McKamey Manor. Back in the day when Bravo's Top 100 Scariest Movie Moments came on...it mean that its the Halloween season! Sadly its been too long since we have gotten another list like that (we don't count the other two the made....for reasons) in a while. So we are doing it ourselves! And jesus is this gonna be quite the list. So! For this episode we are laying out the ground rules and talking about just how much we loved the old series. If you have not checked it out yet do yourself a favor and DO IT! Also if you actually read these show notes...let me know. Otherwise Ill start posting lyrics to my favorite tunes. Like Part of Your World from the Little Mermaid. Real Talk - while i have you here. Listen to that song but only the part from 1:45 - 1:50 the flute in there goes crazy and starts shreding like Eddie Van Halen.
