38:The Metal Maniacs Podcast - Bringing the Beatdown with Accuser of the Brethren Welcome, Metal Maniacs, to Episode 38 of our relentless exploration into the depths of the metal realm. This week, we're joined by Lansing's own Deathcore powerhouse, Accuser of the Brethren. As an extra treat, Jeremy McClary fills in for Nick, steering our conversation with Keato on vocals, Dustin on bass, Pockets on guitar, and Brandon on drums. Accuser of the Brethren, a Deathcore/Beatdown juggernaut hailing from Lansing, Michigan, is here to unleash their fury, drawing influences from Traitors, Bodysnatcher, and Kublai Khan. These guys are pissed off, and their music reflects it, bringing a level of intensity that will leave you breathless. We kick off the discussion by diving into their recent singles, starting with "Buried Deep" released in January 2023. This heavy Deathcore track with a low and cool sample at the end sets the tone for what Accuser of the Brethren is all about. Next up is "Random Acts of Violence" dropped in May 2023, featuring a cool bass/drum break and gang vocals that add a nice touch to the aggression. The band showcases their versatility with "Exit Wound" released in February 2024, complete with plenty of beatdowns. The accompanying video, conceptualized by Shawn Allen, is a must-watch, and Keatos vocals, unlike most Deathcore really allow the music to shine. Our conversation delves deep into the roots of Accuser of the Brethren, exploring what got them into metal, especially the extreme side of the genre. We discuss their influences, the inception of the band, and their writing process. Keato sheds light on how they develop their distinctive sound, emphasizing the importance of letting the music dictate the direction. Accuser of the Brethren's dedication is evident as we uncover their practice schedule and the meticulous process behind crafting their signature guitar tone. The band spills the beans on their gear preferences, highlighting specific pieces that have become favorites in their arsenal. Singles vs. albums is a hot topic, and Accuser of the Brethren shares insights into their approach, especially considering the impact of singles like "Buried Deep" and "Random Acts of Violence." The band takes us behind the scenes of their studio time and production, working with Tim Trevino of Fractured Audio, known for his work with Convulsis, Red Lord, and Recorruptor. Learn how they translate their studio mastery into a captivating live experience, leaving audiences in awe. Accuser of the Brethren reflects on their achievements from the past year, hinting at the excitement on the horizon. New material is teased, leaving us hungry for a potential full-length release that promises to be an auditory onslaught. As we wrap up the episode, we look ahead to what's next for AOTB. The band discusses their plans, ambitions, and the constant drive to push boundaries. And we get Daniela and Stuart's Top 5 episodes! Top 5 moments! And of course their Top 5 GOOFY GUYS. RATE AND REVIEW THE SHOW ON APPLE PODCASTS, PODBEAN AND SPOTIFY, PLEASE AND THANK YOU! "Great shades of Elvis!" Alan and Rob pay tribute to 30 years of "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" - a formative Superman TV series that is near and dear to their hearts. Joining us this week is Craig Byrne of the legendary Kryptonsite who talks about being at the forefront of the L&C fandom back when it was still on the air (he even visited the set!). We're also blessed with returning guest Matt Truex (of "Always Hold Onto Legends of Tomorrow" and "Lois & Clark'd: The New Podcasts of Superman"). Top 5 episodes! Top 5 moments! Top 5 GOOFY GUYS (original villains that didn't originate from the comics!). Plus, a general discussion of what made the show so special, as well as why it may have faded from the conversation. "You and me get Superman, wanna know why? 'Cause we're from the streets." Rob and Alan pore through all three drafts of the legendary never-made film "SUPERMAN LIVES", examining each draft's huge differences and quirky charms. What surprising similarities do these scripts have with later Superman films? Would Nicolas Cage have triumphed as the Man of Steel or would he have gone down in history as the greatest miscasting in comic book cinema? Why a giant spider? What exactly did Jon Peters think Superman was? How great would the Kenner toyline for this film have been? Stay till the VERY end for this one! PLUS! Alan and Rob discuss going to see 'Superman in Concert' in Dublin. Alan and Rob are joined once again by friend of the podcast & Caped Wonder Europe's own Martin Lakin to take another sneaky look under the counter at the movie stash behind the bar at Bibbo's ‘Ace o' Clubs'. This time they examine Cannon's 1987's classic, ‘Masters of the Universe' starring Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella, the movie based on the classic 80's Mattel toyline of the same name. Hear about the dramatic behind the scenes turmoil which caused the production to shut down mid shoot, why exactly the film so negatively effected Superman IV and most importantly the origins of PIGBOY!!! Shawn Allen is the co-founder of M@C Discount. Previously, he was President and GM of Asset Auctions, COO of AssetNation and Senior Product Manager of Giftcards.com which were all successful internet marketplace businesses. M@C Discount stands for Merchandise at Cost. The company buys truckloads of closeouts merchandise and customer returns from major retailers. They receive "New" and "Used" items that are sold individually at aggressive discounts, in-store and online. What's great is that all items in their online auctions start at $1 with no reserve price. His background in reverse logistics started by working at another company that was acquired by FedEx. The shipping company lost interest in that portion of the business, which was dealing with the returned items many retail stores accumulate. Shawn used his background in auctioneering and his partner Kellen's expertise in buying products in designing their current business model. In this episode, Aaron and Shawn talk about the rapid growth of his company, how they have done it profitably, and why auctions are such a great model for selling online.
