Brittany Holzherr grew up reading comics in a household where they were always around ‘cause her Dad had been into them. Her brother's name is Kent ‘cause her Mom loved the Superman TV show. Just they dug comics. Like most of us in the business, Brittany still finds it a little surreal that's she's IN the business. We're all just very glad she is.

Show notes provided by Joe PelusoOnce upon a time you had to go to the movies to see the trailers forupcoming films. Now all you gotta do is grab your favorite hand-helddevice and ask Google or Siri to call it up for you. And of course, there are those numerous reaction videos (Some longer than the filmsthey're reacting to.) With all that said, if you really want the scoopon Marvel/Disney's new Daredevil offering or James Gunn's new Superman film, all you have to do is join James and Joe (Your Mint Men ofMessaging) to deliver the low-down on what's hurtling your way fromthe vast genre-verse. In this current "back of the store chat", the boys run the gamutfrom" Supes" to "nuts" (Diamond Comic Distributors) as they review, report, and reconcile some the important issues of the day that aremaking the rounds in the pop culture universe. Will Spider-Man pop up in Daredevil Born Again? Will James Gunnstraighten out Kal-El's stigmatism in post-production? How will thefall of Diamond Comic Distributors affect your local LCS? Have youheard of Dogman, and why is it eating Marvel and DC's lunch? And hasJoe traded in his maniacal obsession for the inept Nets of the NBA fora lunatic lashing of the NFL? He might be off his meds again. You can't swing an Omnibus (and if you can, more power to you)without hitting a plethora of topics covered in this episode. As we'vestated once or twice before, bring a score when you come through theback door for this segment. If for no other reason, you might want toshow it to an NFL ref or umpire that you're watching them. Let it goJoe. MLB Spring Training has started!

Episode Notes Join us we dive into the mind of 80's heart throb Scott Valentine Aka Nick from Family Ties. He'll take us on his journey from Hollywood to Red Coral Universe. Scott Valentine was born and raised in Saratoga Springs, New York and first discovered acting at age five doing plays in his parents' garage. He appeared in a few high school plays, but didn't pursue acting as a career until his second semester of college. He moved to New York City and studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, where he completed the school's three-year program in a year and a half. He held a few odd jobs such as short order cook and researcher for a publishing firm, and he won a few roles off-off Broadway. He signed a contract for a daytime soap and was about to screen test for a role in the feature film, "Lords of Discipline" but was accidently hit by a truck on September 17, 1981. After three years of convalescing, he left New York for Los Angeles where he landed the part of Nick Moore on the hit series, Family Ties Now you can show your support by purchasing FB stars. He completed the three-year program in one and a half years. He got as far as a screen test for the film The Lords of Discipline when he was hit, run over, and dragged by a truck on September 17, 1981 and his career was halted for three years as he recovered. He moved to Los Angeles and landed a recurring role on the TV series Family Ties as Nick Moore, the loveable but dim-witted boyfriend of Mallory Keaton from 1985 to 1989, for seasons 4 through 7. During an interview for Montreal radio station CJAD, Valentine thought the role was not challenging enough for the money he was receiving, saying: "I'm so glad I went to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and to all the other fine acting institutions so I could grunt on primetime television. The primal dig, the date from hell. It was a lot of fun, but literally there were times where I only had to utter two guttural utterances in a show and they paid me a bundle of cash for it. I felt bad at times. Valentine's success as Nick Moore on Family Ties led to three separate spin-offs. The first starred Valentine and actor Herschel Bernardi called Taking It Home. Filming was canceled when Bernardi died in 1986. The second spin-off placed Valentine's character in a Friends-like environment in New York City. The third was a pilot episode for a spin-off titled The Art of Being Nick; the episode aired once and co-starred Julia Louis-Dreyfus. "It came in number two and they still didn't pick it up," recalled Valentine. He has appeared since then as a guest actor in several hit television series such as CSI: NY, NewsRadio, and JAG; his first major motion picture, My Demon Lover; and numerous TV and straight-to-video movies. He also voiced The Phantom in Phantom 2040. He portrayed Metallo in an episode of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman TV series. Valentine is a partner in Excelsior Capital Partners, a boutique investment firm that focuses on the renewable and sustainable energy sector.[ Find out more at https://still-toking-with.pinecast.co

Synopsis On today's date in 1947, a new opera entitled “The Mother of Us All” debuted at Columbia University in New York City. The libretto was by the American poet Gertrude Stein, and dealt with the life and times of Susan B. Anthony, a 19th century champion of women's rights. In Stein's dream-like account, iconic figures from America's past like President John Adams, orator Daniel Webster, and entertainer Lillian Russell interact even though they lived at different times in history. Two of the opera's 27 characters, playwright Constance Fletcher and Yale librarian Donald Gallup, in fact, were contemporary friends of Stein's. The music was by the American composer Virgil Thomson, whose score evoked seemingly familiar 19th century hymns, sentimental ballads, circus band music, drum rolls, and fanfares. The tunes were, in fact, all original creations. The mix of Thomson's music and Stein's text results in a rambunctious opera about American life and politics, at turns both amusing and strangely touching. It became an unlikely success. Thomson wrote two other operas: “Four Saints in Three Acts,” from 1933, was an earlier collaboration with Gertrude Stein, and “Lord Byron,” from 1972, sets a witty libretto by Jack Larson, an actor famous for his portrayal of Daily Planet cub reporter Jimmy Olson on the old “Superman” TV series. “Lord Byron” was intended for the Metropolitan Opera in New York, but never made it there, and performances these days are rare. Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Alexis Hunter, Author of “JOI LANSING - A BODY TO DIE FOR - A Love Story”About Harvey's guest:Today we're celebrating one of Hollywood's most popular buxom blonde bombshells of the 50s and 60s: Joi Lansing. She was often referred to as “the Marilyn Monroe of television”, because of her beauty, sparkling personality, and her musical and comedic talent. She appeared in classic movies including “Easter Parade”, “Singin' in the Rain”, “Touch of Evil”, “Marriage on the Rocks”, “Queen of Outer Space” and “Bigfoot”. On TV, she appeared in “I Love Lucy”, “The Jack Benny Show”, “Perry Mason”, “Maverick”, and she had recurring roles on “The Bob Cummings Show” and “The Beverly Hillbillies”. And if you're a fan of the “Superman” TV show, Joi Lansing's character was the one who beat out Lois Lane, to marry Superman, in the 1958 episode entitled, “Superman's Wife”. She also had a very successful Las Vegas nightclub act. Miss Lansing tragically succumbed to cancer in 1972 when she was only 43 years old. Our guest was not only Joi Lansing's best friend, constant companion and caregiver for the last 3 years of her life – she was her lover. In 2014 she released a poignant and heartbreaking book entitled, “Joi Lansing: A Body to Die For”. Are you a fan of the show? Is it a show you’ve been curious about for years? This is the podcast for you!

Noel Neill, one of two actresses who played Lois Lane on the original Superman TV show, arrived in the Next World recently. Not one but two special people were on hand to greet her. We'll tell you who they were and what at least two of them may be doing soon. Marilyn Monroe and Jackie Kennedy have taken their bizarre role reversal to new heights. Up to this point, the two have managed to avoid each other but that may be changing soon. We'll tell you why there may be a cat fight in their future. Orville and Wilbur Wright's first porno movie has now been released to the public. Do the boys measure up as adult film stars? We'll tell you what public opinion of their "acting" is. Former televangelists Tammy Faye Bakker and Jan Crouch have been on a collision course on the set of "Tammy's Court" for weeks now. What did one of them do on a recent episode that made steam shoot out of the other's ears? You'll be amazed when you hear.
Here, in corporate Big Food America, we apparently hold certain Foodiness truths to be self-evident, which is that all industrially produced foods are created Equal, that they are endowed by their corporate Creators with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are potentially destroying Life, crushing the Liberty of the small farmer and the pursuit of profitable Happiness for those running the corporations.- Sorry, I’ve been thinking about American holidays, and the 4th is right around the corner, so I thought I’d rewrite the Declaration of Independence, to make it more appropriate for today’s world. The whole Memorial day/Independence day/Labor day structure of the summer got me thinking, about how the season is bookended by holidays, and peaks with one. July 4th, Independence day, is really the beginning of the end of the summer. What do you have, like 6 weeks after that? And the back-to-school ads start running by the 4th, and the Xmas crap starts to show up in stores alongside the Halloween candy, it’s like time doesn’t really exist, the whole year is a mashup of pre-and post holiday sales, for every holiday, all at once. There’s a dollar store near my summer house, and one year, in early July, they had leftover Father’s day and graduation party crap, alongside 4th of July star-spangled junk, and an early display of Xmas decorations…All at the same time. It was like the time-space continuum had totally collapsed! I’m already getting nostalgic for and feeling the loss of this summer, and it’s only May 24th!! But back to the agenda for today’s show, which is primarily about truth…Truth, Justice, and the American Foodiness way. If you’re under 40, that’s a variation on the tagline from the old Superman TV show. Superman fought for truth, justice, and the American way, because…the cold war. Here in the fallout shelter, we’re fighting for truth, and justice, and definitely the American foodiness way, or more correctly, against, the American foodiness way, because…our food systems are so effed. So come on down the rabbit hole, and into the shelter, where’s it dry and cozy and we have snacks, too! The CBS news team was here last week, and the place is all spiffed up and tidy.

Podcast: John Jones in Smallville, Part 1 Beginning this episode: an irregular series of shows covering appearances by the Sleuth from Outer Space on the WB/CW's long-lived Superboy Clark Kent developing into Superman TV show Smallville. This initial installment looks briefly at the show's formative development, then summarizes John Jones' cameo debut in the sixth season episode "Static," followed by the launch of the Martian-less not quite a "Justice" League, and finally the full debut of the Manhunter as portrayed by Phil Morris in "Labyrinth." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/diabolu-frank/message

Chris keeps on reading, and this time it's more Superman! Our favorite Englishman lends his ephemeral eloquence one again to the Last Son ok Krypton. This time out it's 2 very different pieces. First up he tackles the effusive words of Quentin Tarantino with Bill's monologue about Superman from Kill Bill Volume 2. Then he goes totally old school (and kind of American) with The opening from the Adventures of Superman TV show (and radio show for the most part. The radio show didn't have "and the American way line" but Chris does (sort of) and he's not even American!)
