Episode 280 of “The Sports Experience Podcast” is here & we're back on the hardwood discussing Nate “Tiny” Archibald. One of the best point guards in NBA history, Archibald's basketball career almost never materialized. Though he was a playground legend in New York City with slick moves, incredible passing ability, a solid outside shot and a toughness to drive to the basket, Archibald did not fully display his talents until his senior year of high school. Poor grades forced “Tiny” to begin his college career at Arizona Western in Yuma until he dazzled his final three seasons at Texas Western (UTEP). Archibald (6'1” 150 lbs.) was then selected 19th overall (2nd Round) in the 1970 NBA Draft and became a star for the Cincinnati/Kansas City-Omaha/Kansas City Kings. Though his team was short on talent, Archibald proved to be one of the NBA's best in a big man's league. In 1972-1973, he became the first player in history to lead the league in scoring and assists and even helped the lowly Kings into postseason contention. Unfortunately, injuries and short stints with the New York Nets and Buffalo Braves almost finished Archibald's career until a tremendous second act with the Boston Celtics. Nate helped the Celtics capture the NBA title after the 1980-1981 season, and in turn cemented his legacy as one of the league's best all-time players. Overall, Archibald finished his career with 18.8 PPG, 7. 4 APG, made the All-NBA 1st Team three times, All-NBA 2nd Team twice, was a 7x All-Star, was named to the 50th and 75th NBA Anniversary teams and inducted into the Naismith HOF in 1991. It has been said of John 1:1 that it “deserves to be written in golden letters in every Christian church.” In our fallenness, we are prone to think of our sin as a small thing. When we see how John magnifies Christ in this short verse, we are reminded of its true cost. We consider four things: 1. Our sin must be big because Jesus is revealer 2. Our sin must be big because Jesus is eternal 3. Our sin must be big because Jesus is the Son 4. Our sin must be big because Jesus is God

Straight back from a Covid-induced hiatus, Keith explains that fickle-ish women on dating apps aren't willing to wait out his illness for a chance to meet him. Except one, who may or may not have prepared him a steaming bowl of soup, which he may or may not have accepted. Speaking more globally, why is it that women are messaged that they shouldn't care about the things in men that they likely do care about: intelligence, ambition, ability. Instead, romantic notions seem to suggest that some random guy out there might be a "soul mate". Let's say you've made an agreement with your partner to accept pegging, and in return, your "fetish" of analizing her will be realized. She pegs you, and then she reneges. How upset should you be about this state of affairs? And, is it fair for her to peg you with an instrument that's exactly the same size as yours, or should it be a bit bigger given her likely smaller stature. In 2017, the former US Surgeon General called loneliness a public health epidemic. It's been compared to a crisis on the scale of opioids or obesity. Some studies equate the health effects of loneliness with that of smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Julie Schechter is helping to fight the loneliness epidemic. She is the CEO and co-founder of  Present and Small Packages, two companies focused on building stronger relationships and connections in a digital world. She provides insight on the modern paradox of technology: how something meant to bring us closer together has led to a lonelier population. Julie explains: How our everyday lives have lost the traditional structures that made us feel connected Why our relationships are typically dictated by proximity How the pandemic forced “hustle culture” to come to a halt and the lasting impact of pandemic loneliness Why technology has made us all feel lonely How losing your oldest friendships has the health impact equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day What kinds of technology can work to make us feel closer Why the simple act of noticing something in someone is so powerful

The Surgeon General has pointed to a loneliness epidemic. Losing your support group is the equivalent of smoking 15 cigarettes a day. We have to invest in our relationships. ~ Julie Schechter How many Facebook friends do you have? How about Instagram followers? What's your count of LinkedIn connections? Isn't it amazing to have so many friends? If you're on social media, odds are you have thousands of “friends.” But how many of those are people whom you really know, and who know you? Even with so many connections, we can still feel isolated and alone. Our real relationships often get lost in the shuffle as we forget birthdays, anniversaries, or even making a phone call (???!!!) to let someone know we're thinking of them. Julie Schechter reminds us that our relationships are the most important parts of our lives, impacting both our mental and physical health. The former ballet dancer and lawyer wants to help us reconnect with those we care about through her company Small Packages. Julie began her values-based business after realizing that she herself was missing out on her relationships, and admitting that she needed a way to let those she cared about know she was thinking of them. By building a business with intention (97% of Julie's products come from small suppliers), Julie encourages people to send small gift packages (pre-packaged or personally chosen) to loved ones as a tangible reminder that we care–especially appreciated in our electronic world. Here at Brilliantly Resilient, we know the value of a tribe. Be sure to nurture your relationships, both personal and professional, and show appreciation for the “real” people in your life. Tune in to learn more about Julie here, and be sure to learn more on this week's podcast! Let's be Brilliantly Resilient together! XO, KS & MFB

Julie Schechter danced her way through childhood into college, focusing on ballet. When she wasn't dancing, she might be hanging out with her dad in his editing room as he spliced film for his documentaries. Mom was a child psychologist. Needless to say, Julie had a front-row seat to entrepreneurism and passion-connected careers. It came as a bit of a shock when Julie announced that she was going to Harvard Law School. There's more to that story… After studying dance in college, Julie spent two years in Americorps, a national program that engages Americans in intensive community service to meet needs in education, the environment, public safety, health, and homeland security. Julie worked with nurses going into preschools in the San Juan Capistrano, CA area, near the Mexican border, doing wellness checks on children, and trying to identify health needs because English was not their first language. She was inspired by that experience and decided she wanted to be like Atticus Finch, from To Kill A Mockingbird.  Upon entering law school, Julie intended to pursue a career in public interest law, and like many in her shoes, she had a huge debt load at graduation. So, she joined a large law firm and became a litigator, an experience she values to this day. Yet, she is no longer practicing law. Julie in her heart is a serial entrepreneur. Once she left law, she leveraged her background as a ballet dancer to create the successful fitness company fitBallet, which ran for three years in New York City's hyper-competitive fitness market.  Today, Julie is the co-founder and CEO of Small Packages. Her curated care packages help busy people maintain their friendships despite the pressures of physical distance. In this week's Work From The Inside Out podcast, learn more about  Julie's journey: Julie took a day job counseling attorneys while she was building fitBallet to support herself.  Small Packages has been featured in NYT Wirecutter, CNN, Good Morning America, and awarded a Visionary Women Grant by Shark Tank's Barbara Corcoran. I talk with James Malley, CEO and co-founder of Paccurate on how they are changing the future, one optimized box at a time. Recent focus on Scope 3 supply chain related emissions brings new attention to waste and turning the humble tan cardboard box into a green future is getting major attention. Port X Logistics is your easy button for your drayage, transload, and trucking needs for all ports and ramps in the United States and Canada.
