We're always looking at new ways to approach the 90s, and in the past we've revisited the output from bands and artists that got that start in the 1970s and 80s, like Tom Petty, KISS, Van Halen, and others. At the suggestion of our friend and 80s Metal co-host Chip, we've revamped the format for a fresh start. We kick it off with progressive arena rock veterans Styx, and start by checking out their 70s and 80s greatest hits to re-familiarize ourselves with the songs that became staples on classic rock radio for decades - "Come Sail Away," "Renegade," "Mr. Roboto," "Lady," and many more. Then we check out their 90s releases - the 1990 album Edge of the Century, which did not feature guitarist Tommy Shaw, then guitarist for Damn Yankees, and then their 1999 reunion with Shaw, and last with lead singer/keyboardist Dennis DeYoung, Brave New World. Unlike many of their classic rock peers, Styx managed to score a hit single at the start of the decade with the ballad "Show Me The Way." From their, we catch up with the band and current status to determine if the band thrived in the 90s, merely adapted to the times, or creatively died.   Songs In This Episode Intro - Show Me The Way (from Edge of the Century) 7:40 - Blue Collar Man (Long Nights) (from Pieces of Eight) 28:42 - Suite Madame Blue (from Equinox) 38:56 - Back To Chicago (from Edge of the Century) 41.57 - All In A Day's Work (from Edge of the Century) 58:57 - What Have They Done to You (from Brave New World) Outro - Everything Is Cool (from Brave New World)   Support the podcast, join the DMO UNION at Patreon. Pop music is as quintessential to the summer as warm breezes, lazy afternoons, and margaritas by the pool. And for decades, musical artists have been inspired by the season to create memorable, catchy songs that have, in turn, become required listening every time the warmer months roll around. So for one of our 2024 Summer Specials, the Great Pop Culture Debate wants to feel the heat as we name the Best "Summer" Song. Songs discussed include “Cruel Summer” by Bananarama; “Summer in the City” by The Lovin' Spoonful; “Cool for the Summer” by Demi Lovato; “Summer Breeze” by Seals & Crofts; “California Gurls” by Katy Perry & Snoop Dogg; “Summer of ‘69” by Bryan Adams; “The Boys of Summer” by Don Henley; “Sailing” by Christopher Cross; “Come Sail Away” by Styx; “Summer Lovin'” from Grease; “Under the Boardwalk” by The Drifters; “I Get Around” by The Beach Boys; and more! Join host Eric Rezsnyak, GPCD panelists Derek Mekita and Kate Racculia, and special guest Ashleigh Stiles from Wizard Radio as they discuss 16 of the most popular songs associated with the summer. Episode 151 – Styx & Kansas Part 4, 1977 – The Grand Illusion and Point of Know Return The year of 1977 is a huge one in the Styx / Kansas timeline. Point of Know Return is the album that sent Kansas into the stratosphere. With the title track and the timeless Dust In the Wind, Point of Know Return is truly a classic album that you should listen to before you die. The Grand Illusion shows Styx as a band finally showing some of the focus that will define them for the next several years. Another great title track opens the record. Come Sail Away showcases Dennis DeYoung while Fooling Yourself is a Tommy Shaw gem. Songs like Castle Walls have enough hobbit shit to establish Styx's prog cred. This is a great year! Episode 263 In this episode we are joined by video game developer turned tabletop developer and toy inventor Scott Pease. We discuss his history in video games (some very small indie titles like Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk Pro Skater) and the development of Snap Ships Tactics. Scott then tells us about how Mindbug has burrowed into his head, Lauren gives a two-for-one special discussing Come Sail Away! and Neuroshima Hex, and finally, Def brings us back to the classics with his plays of Lacrimosa.  There's also the Question of the Pod and Swear an Oath, because we are nothing if not predictable.  New Question of the Pod: What game do you wish was available when you were younger? Sizzling Games: Mingbug (32:58) Come Sail Away! Tanner and Bella kick off our episodes about Wind Waker, discussing the iconic elements of the game like the overworld and animation style. Given that this game was set on the open ocean, it introduced the idea of an open-world Zelda game with a lighter, more comical style of telling an epic story. They also reminisce with some of their early memories of playing the game and share their love of nostalgic characters and side quests. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/shortsonline/support

On January 18, 2023, the EPA and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers published a final rule redefining the term "waters of the United States" (WOTUS) modifying the purview of bodies of water subject to regulation under the Clean Water Act (CWA) and reversing the regulatory changes made during the Trump Administration. Already being challenged in court, the rule became effective March 20, 2023, and a pending ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court in Sackett v. EPA later this year will ultimately inform the outcome of those challenges. Energy, Environment & Natural Resources Practice Group member Scott Butcher joins the Briefly Legal podcast to discuss the vast history of WOTUS by navigating through the murky waters of extensive agency rulemaking and litigation and associated legal challenges in the 50 years since the CWA was passed. Hour 1: Boomer is back from his golf trip in the Dominican Republic and is excited for this week in the NFL's offseason. We should find out what Aaron Rodgers is doing sometime this week. There are also reports that Daniel Jones' agents and the Giants are not close to a deal yet, essentially walking him into a franchise tag. Boomer said the Giants would be crazy to give him $45 million a year. Boomer still thinks that Aaron Rodgers will be a NY Jet this season. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with the Knicks winning their ninth straight by beating Boston. The Nets beat the Hornets in Brooklyn and Boomer wonders how many people go to those games now. The Grizzlies suspended Ja Morant for at least two games for posting a video on Instagram with a gun at a strip club. In the final segment of the hour, Al has been having a rough time with his dog Whimsy. She hurt her neck and is now on medication and now she pees in the house. Florida QB Anthony Richardson broke two records at the NFL combine.  Hour 2: With the Knicks winning their ninth straight, Boomer said you have to be all in on the Knicks now. Gio is enjoying it right now but also being cautious. Jerry returns for an update but first they talk about Al's dog Whimsy peeing all over his condo. The Knicks beat the Celtics, making it 9 straight wins. We heard from Kevin Durant after his victory with the Suns. Ja Morant will be away from his team for brandishing a gun at a strip club while on an Instagram live. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about some of the standout players at the NFL combine. Boomer said Alabama QB Bryce Young seems to be able to handle everything.  Hour 3: Boomer watched a documentary about Oasis on the plane. He then watched a documentary about drummers. We also talked about the NFLPA's survey of players on the worst teams to play for. Boomer wishes he was surveyed when he was a player on the Bengals. Boomer talked about his days with the Bengals and how their facilities were terrible compared to what the players have today. Jerry returns for an update and has audio of Rob Saleh on Joe Benigno's podcast. Joe tells Saleh their first pick in the draft has to be an offensive lineman. Joe drops a classic ‘how bout that?' Jerry went around the NBA with the Knicks and Nets both winning. Buck Showalter talked about Kodai Senga's Spring Training start. Aaron Hicks said he's the left fielder and it's up to him to keep the job. In the final segment of the hour, it all comes down to the wire tomorrow between Daniel Jones and the Giants. It is looking like a franchise tag situation.  Hour 4: Adam and the Metal Hawks are in-studio. They will be our in-house band for our live show in Jersey City on April 7th.
