The Stars Shine in our review of six new Blu-rays from the Warner Archive. To begin, George Feltenstein takes us through the intricate process of restoring the 1940 Technicolor epic "Northwest Passage," starring Spencer Tracy, discussing the hurdles of working with nitrate negatives and the impressive results. This cinema classic from King Vidor brims with adventure and beautiful landscapes that look better than ever. Our reviews continue as we spotlight Clark Gable and Norma Shearer's unforgettable performances in the 1939 MGM classic "Idiot's Delight." George explains director Clarence Brown's anti-war messaging and details the inclusion of both the international and American endings to the film.Next, we review the 1965 musical "Harum Scarum" starring Elvis in a comedy set in the deserts of Arabia. Gorgeous sets filled with beautiful women plus Elvis' trademark rock'n'roll songs make this a pop hit for Elvis fans. Finally, we shine a light on three forgotten gems that deserve a second look. We start with the 1995 period drama "The Stars Fell on Henrietta" starring Robert Duvall in an unforgettable performance and supporting actors Aidan Quinn, Frances Fisher, and Brian Dennehy. Next, we highlight Sissy Spacek's powerful role in the 1985 film "Marie, A True Story." Directed Roger Donaldson, this film has a terrific script and a wonderful supporting cast that includes Jeff Daniels, Morgan Freeman, and Fred Thompson. And finally, there is the heartwarming 1994 Irish film "War of the Buttons," a gem of a family film that deserves a wider audience.Tune in for an episode brimming with film reviews, restoration insights, and a profound appreciation for cinematic history! When the pair find themselves sharing a cabin in the strangest town in America— Jerusalem, OR— they're prepared for a housemate situation from hell. What they're not expecting is tidings of a stranger sort: Ed is the antichrist, Lucy her guardian angel, and if they can't find a way to work together soon, the rapture is set to take first the town, then the world… but neither of them know that yet. Welcome to Jerusalem, OR, where what doesn't kill you is just another mystery. When Jesus describes wars, suffering, and starts falling from the sky, it can be confusing and even scary. But when he teaches about these things, he's actually preparing the disciples for the cross and resurrection. As we read those words today, they help us to bear witness to the cross and live the resurrection in our daily lives. Hi, my name is Newt Schottelkotte and I'm the executive producer of Where the Stars Fell. The shortest way to describe this show is "What if the Odd Couple was about fighting God?" Ever since she was born, Dr. Edison "Ed" Tucker has been physically unable to die. She's a genius cryptozoologist who comes to the small Oregon town of Jerusalem to prove the existence of the supernatural. While she's there, she's sharing a cabin with the infamously reclusive author Lucille Kensington. But there's a twist: Ed is the Antichrist, Lucy is her guardian angel, and they have to work together to stop the apocalypse from, well, apocalypsing. If you like small towns with a lot of quirky characters, religious fantasies that focus primarily on Jewish mythology with a little bit of Christian, and stories that prioritize disabled characters getting to do the cool thing– from fighting with a giant sword to having fire powers, we just might be the show for you. This episode is called "Everybody Goes to the Rapture." It takes place in season three, and in it, an evangelical preacher comes to town. He's a Seventh-day Adventist, which means that he believes the apocalypse can happen pretty much at any moment, but he's not quite what you would expect from that description. The gang obviously can't have somebody saying that Doomsday is just around the corner running around town when that is, in fact, what is happening, so they have to hatch a plot to get this guy out of there before he cottons on to the fact that the apocalypse is actually quite nigh. Most of the secrets of Jerusalem, Oregon have long been revealed by this point in the show, so if you enjoy solving a mystery alongside the characters, you might just want to go right to Episode One without being spoiled. But if you don't mind that, then in this episode, you're going to meet Ed and Lucy. You'll also meet Gabe who is the angel Gabriel, BB who is the demon Beelzebub, and Mike who is the archangel Michael. The Ineffable Coalition of the Upper Pacific, and no, you should not spell that acronym out loud, have been given 61 days until the apocalypse is scheduled to happen, and several of those days have already passed by this point in the season. That's all for now, so sit back, relax, and enjoy. cw: Violence, sexual references, religious themes, discussions of mental health and ableism Transcript can be found at: https://acrobat.adobe.com/link/track?uri=urn:aaid:scds:US:eed032c7-735d-3524-b9a7-b85724ce195b https://wherethestarsfell.com/ Socials: https://starsfellradio.tumblr.com/
It's the delightful "Stars Fell On Alabama" under the Same Difference microscope this episode! Join AJ and Johnny as they listen to and discuss versions of this sometimes forgotten Jazz standard by Louis Armstrong, Billy Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Harry Connick Jr., Cannonball Adderley and John Coltrane, new-to-us artist the Boilermaker Jazz Band, and a special (and unplanned) tribute to the late Jimmy Buffett.
#926 - Lucy Buffett & Mac McAleer The Lucy Buffett & Mac McAleer Interview is featured on The Paul Leslie Hour. Are you here? If you're here, just know that we appreciate you. Thanks for tuning into The Paul Leslie Hour. We're honored to present Paul's interview with Lucy Buffett and Mac McAleer. This interview with Lucy and Mac was recorded at Lucy's restaurant LuLu's at Homeport in Gulf Shores, Alabama on March 10, 2007. It was originally broadcast on the radio, during the Stars Fell on Alabama festival. LuLu's is a place renowned for fun, food and music. No doubt, many of you heard the sad news about Jimmy Buffett, Lucy's brother. Fun, food and music were a big part of his life as well. We were heartbroken to hear about Jimmy's passing on September 1st. If you've been listening to The Paul Leslie Hour you know how many people and events from the Jimmy Buffett world have been covered here. And some of you know, Paul's very first broadcasts were heard on Jimmy Buffett's Radio Margaritaville in 2003. To honor the troubadour of the tropics, we're bringing out this interview with his sister Lucy and brother-in-law Mac. You'll hear in Lucy's voice something of her brother. You'll recognize the same joyous spirit and childlike enthusiasm. Carson Forrester, a listener of The Paul Leslie Hour and a boatbuilder commented the other day on Paul's instagram. He said “heart breaking Paul, keep the stories coming.” Well ladies and gentlemen, that's what we're going to do. Please subscribe to Paul Leslie's YouTube channel and don't forget to hit the bell. We'll keep the stories alive. And with that, I think we're all ready to listen. Here's Lucy Buffett and Mac McAleer on a beautiful coastal day. The Paul Leslie Hour is a talk show dedicated to “Helping People Tell Their Stories.” Some of the most iconic people of all time drop in to chat. Frequent topics include Arts, Entertainment and Culture.

In the early morning of November 13, 1833, one of the greatest astronomical spectacles in recorded history took place. It was seen by millions of people, and no one was sure what was happening. Some thought it was the end of the world or judgment day. Both common people and scientists recorded the event, and it turned out that the explanation for what happened was just an extraordinary occurrence of a very ordinary event. Hi, this is Newton Schottelkotte, creator of Where the Stars Fell. We're a supernatural fantasy for those who like twisty mysteries, weird little towns with a hidden world inside them, and a blend of drama and comedy that'll still give you all the feels. We start by following Dr. Edison Tucker, a genius cryptozoologist who comes to the strangest town in America, Jerusalem, Oregon, to prove the existence of the supernatural and, along the way, discover why, for her entire life, she's never been able to die. From there, you'll find quirky residents, lore galore, and “The Odd Couple”, but if it was about stopping the rapture. I hope you'll keep listening, and enjoy the show! Thank you for tuning in to The Paul Leslie Hour, your source for optional entertainment for 18 years and counting. We'd like to thank you for being here. Oh and hello to Frank McInvale! We have a very special interview from the archives with just a fabulous guy, singer-songwriter James White, better known to many of you as Sunny Jim. This interview was recorded on-location amid the crowds and sonic jubilation of performing musicians and fans at the annual music festival "Stars Fell on Alabama.” What a festival that was, although it's no longer going on. Paul spoke with James "Sunny Jim" White at the restaurant LuLu's in Gulf Shores, Alabama. LuLu's of course is Lucy Buffett's restaurant. When they did this short and sweet interview Sunny Jim and Paul didn't even sit down. That's just the way it went down. Would you believe you can help keep The Paul Leslie Hour going and going? Just go to thepaulleslie.com/support Yes… You're going to enjoy this interview with Sunny Jim. It's a lot of fun and we hope it's a great part of your day. How can we know what happened in the past? Historians use a wide variety of sources in order to answer that question. But how do we know what happened when there was no written language?
Currently we’re between seasons at 3 Clips. In the meantime let’s listen in on an old episode of Audience. Newt Schottlekote created their first audio drama in 2017 when they were only 15 years old.
