On this episode of More Perfect Marketing, we explore the use of Pinterest as an evergreen content strategy. Our guest, Stephanie Riel, a brand strategist, shares insights into marketing tips for using Pinterest to promote small businesses. She emphasizes the importance of having a data-driven approach and consistency in marketing efforts. Through her Pin Better Method, Stephanie explains how service-based businesses can attract potential customers through Pinterest and why having a link for your business is crucial on the platform. With evergreen content, Pinterest can be leveraged to drive traffic to blogs, podcasts, and app downloads. Stephanie also offers valuable advice on creating content that works well with the Pinterest algorithm and how to use analytics tools to measure performance. Join us as we learn from Stephanie's expertise and explore the untapped potential of Pinterest for businesses. Episode Breakdown: [00:02:46] Pinterest is a missed opportunity for small businesses which is why Stephanie developed the Pin Better method to scale Pinterest and drive website traffic. Stephanie thinks Pinterest is the long game for businesses of all kinds, including service-based businesses. [00:08:58] Pinterest users plan for future needs, including business and market research. Any evergreen content with links can be leveraged on social media, including blogs, podcasts, and tech startups. Pinterest allows for a deeper connection with the brand and can generate leads for service-based businesses. [00:14:01] Building a brand and reputation is important regardless of the size of a business; Pinterest can be useful for service-based small businesses by educating customers and reaching a wider audience. Even if the content is not applicable to someone currently, it could be helpful to them or someone they know, leading to potential future business. [00:19:58] Using a link to a website can be an easy way to get started on Pinterest, and even someone without marketing experience can use an extension to easily post on the platform. Any link can work, but evergreen content is preferred, and visuals can be created using Canva. [00:27:19] Growing up with digital marketing industry was important. Social media helped get validation and feedback from customers. Analytics tools such as Google and Pinterest help test and verify performance. Understanding the customer's problem is vital in creating valuable content and effective marketing strategies. [00:31:38] Digital marketing requires consistent, targeted efforts on different platforms over time, with a focus on ROI and data analysis to determine what is driving traffic. It's not just about one thing, but many little actions that add up. Links Mentioned: stephanieriel.com Pin Better Mini Course

But it's that consistency, different touchpoints that we can continue to nurture and stay top of mind in this noisy world; that's how we can stand out." - Stephanie Riel

Masterful Marketing and Knowing When to Start with Stephanie Riel There are always things that we think need to happen before our projects are 100% perfect or tied up in a perfect little bow. Especially, in the beginning, we can obsess over details or decisions that keep us from taking action and stepping into our space. Stephanie Riel assures us, with more than a decade in the branding and marketing space, and remarkable growth in her firms, that “ready is a lie”. She built her success in marketing by taking the action and not getting “stuck in the suck”. And, this was well before the current marketing programs, social media, and entrepreneurship blueprints and thought leaders we see everywhere today. Stephanie loves to have a lot of things going on at once. She is a brand strategist, marketing consultant, and the founder and owner of both RielDeal Marketing and RielDeal & Co., while making meaningful time for her newly wedded partner whom she married in the midst of the shutdown, two dogs (one of which is a Schnauzer-doodle!), and herself. Three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Know how to move from a corporate job and side hustle to starting your business. Be inspired by Stephanie's unique perspective on successful marketing patterns across industries. The strategist's bird's-eye-view of all the pieces and putting the plans together, continues to thrill her and bring passion for this work. Her childhood experiences in the Girls Scouts sparked an early passion in business and sales. In college, Stephanie sought to major in all three: musical theatre, journalism, and business. As always, she wanted to all things and all at once In her senior year, she focussed on business and journalism and their blends of storytelling and communication with data and analytics. As she took on 7 newsroom internship positions, Stephanie started her LLC and took on clients and projects on nights and weekends. The Side-Hustle Lifestyle before it was a Lifestyle Stephanie leveraged her contracting experience to enter the corporate space and lead the marketing department of a construction technology firm. Following her interest to learn about other industries, she pivoted to a marketing agency and worked full-time while continuing to support her own clients. In 2019, she quit her corporate job and focussed full-time on her business and clients for RielDeal Marketing (a multi-channel marketing firm for small businesses) Of course, marketing is important, and it's what I do, but... When we're starting out, get clients and be in the space. . Let your marketing grow at a steady pace rather than investing in a suite of marketing pieces you may outgrow in a year or two. . There is so much you can do without a massive marketing budget. Take advantage of the inexhaustible cache of template resources. Mindset matters, especially, at the beginning. Have a beta-approach and be willing to put what you have out there, even if it's not final or perfect Marketing Advice from an Expert Don't overlook the power of the email campaign list. From launch to a built out, automated email campaign, your email list is paramount and a concrete resource. Jump on text message marketing, but keep it strategic and honor that personal space by adding value and customizing content and frequency based on client engagement. What Carries us Through the Hard Parts Finding and using our community to build with, share with, and be vulnerable with. Be inspired by each other's stories and know we are in this together. Even after more than 10 years in the business with great success, having the mindset that it's okay to not not have EVERYTHING figured out, yet, still plays a part in success. Quiet time to myself in the morning. I meditate and workout. I don't look at my phone for an hour or so, so I can take care of myself first, and, then jump into serving others. Ongoing practice of self-awareness and development. It paid off well beyond expectations while getting married during a pandemic! Musical theatre! … especially the nostalgic echoes of Wicked and it's themes of believing in and supporting each other and ourselves. Enjoy the Podcast? In today’s episode I get to chat with Stephanie Riel. She’s the founder of ReilDeal Marketing. We’re talking about where you can automate your workflows to save more time so you can work on your business, not just in your business. “I think there’s so much power in story. Whenever we are trying to connect with another entity, of course humans, but our brands have a story too. Being able to help bring that story and that why to life, is really what made me fall in love with marketing.” IN THIS EPISODE Stephanie and I dive into how to take things off your plate (including the pressure to do it all) in order to help your business thrive. How and why to work smarter and not harder instead of experiencing burnout as an entrepreneur. Finding a better way to get things done instead of doing it at 2AM. Determining what to outsource and what to automate in your business. The importance of focusing on tasks that bring in revenue. Stephanie offers different solutions to tasks you may need to rethink doing yourself. Bringing your customer into the sales funnel and how it helps get more sales overtime. Different platforms you may want to use in your business to help automate your tasks. ADVICE FROM STEPHANIE Make a list of revenue generating tasks, operational, creative, etc. (areas where you spend your time). Then figure out what you enjoy doing, what you can automate (repeated patterns ex: emails), and what you can outsource.
