You & Me in the Trees with Amoris Walker Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Be inspired by how Amoris passion for the environment and storytelling led her to work in multimedia production and becoming a writer. Visit Amoris at her website┃Instagram┃Facebook Get Amoris' book You and Me In The Trees by pre ordering at your local bookstore or website┃Amazon Episode Highlights Introducing the Earth Walkers! Amoris grew up touring schools across the country playing music with her family and presenting on environmental issues and teaching about nature. She played many instruments but was mostly, in her words, “the cute little kid that played the tambourine and sticks.” “I played the autoharp, harp, harmonica, the fiddle, flute, Finally, I picked up the guitar and found that it was the most manageable.” One of her greatest talents was that she loved being on stage and performing. Public School FOMO “When I was 8-13 year old I thought I was missing out on being a cheerleader, playing sports, making friends, kissing boys… I thought that that was where it was at…” When she stopped touring and went on to public middle school, she realized she was very wrong and valued her experience and learning on the road with her family. While she was touring, it was hard and busy work. But as she looked back and compared it to her middle school experience, she remembers how special it was to connect with her peers in the way she and her family had. How to Be a Nature Parent Model the activity. If you want the kids to go outside, you have to go outside. Sometimes it's just turning off the TV and going outside for 10 mins. Have books, maps, and field guides around that are about hiking, camping, the plants and animals that grow or live nearby, etc. Nurture your own understanding and connection with nature and the environment. Plan or make a list of hikes to do together. Find good outdoor gear and get it for a good price or free. There are online groups like on Facebook, buy/sell/trade apps, and local used outdoor gear shops that are great places to find steals and even free gear. Also, forget what IG says hiking or being outdoors is supposed to look like. It's often not a breezy aunt in a sundress, but if you have the right gear and are prepared, it can be fun and comfortable. The Ins and Outs of Doing a Kickstarter “It's a ton of work… I simplified mine and it was still a ton of work.” It's a meaningful way to get a project done. Everyone is helping each other and pitching in means people are invested in you and what you love, too. Have a very clear vision of what will happen to the money that is raised. Start with the goal amount and add more, there are so many unforeseen expenses that come up. Keep the rewards simple and carve out time to process them after the Kickstarter closes. “YOU HAVE TO MARKET YOURSELF. You have to be on social media and tell people what you are doing!” Tell your friends before the first day of launch. If you don't make your goal in 30 days, you lose the funds. You can have some of your own money set aside to help you get to the goal in the last days if you're really close. Next Steps “I'm in a phase where I'm a mom and I want to work on projects that I can share with my baby and husband who is also an avid outdoorsman.” Amoris has many more ideas for future books and a project in the works with the same illustrator of You and Me In the Trees. “If I want to write another book, I'll just need to go out into nature more and find inspiration.” Amoris observes her daughter connecting with nature and says that whole books can come from a single moment of connection. Amoris' Daily Non Negotiables She is on day 6 of her 30 days of yoga challenge to herself. Amoris likes to switch things up and creates 30 day challenges drawn from a variety of practices. A kiss from her daughter and a kiss from her husband. A chat on the phone with her mom. Coffee or tea. Not checking the phone first thing in the morning. Go outside. Even if it's just to stand on the porch to look at the sky and get some vitamin D and a breath of fresh air. Meditation. Amoris asks Heidi for Heidi's Non Negotiables Three minutes of meditation repeating “Redirect my energy, guide my thoughts and my actions.” Walk the dogs in the morning. Coffee. Something from her many movement practices. About Amoris Amoris lives with her husband and daughter in the beautiful state of Oregon where they enjoy and explore the awe and wonder of the Pacific Northwest together. She grew up touring with her family giving presentations about nature and environmental issues to schools across the country. Amoris began producing videos at 13 and later became interested in sharing important stories through documentary film. She worked in video production for iHeartMedia in Portland, Oregon and Seattle, and went on to produce social media marketing and content creation for the largest broadcast company in the world. She founded her video production and social media marketing company in 2015 called Hot Tea Media. In 2020, Amoris started her journey in self publishing her children's book, You and Me In the Trees, and it is finally hitting the online shelves this month! Enjoy the Podcast? It's so important and incredible that we are having these conversations around toxicity and abuse. We continue to learn how to identify the red flags and their effects. However, finding clarity, support, and solutions around what to do and how to rebuild after can be a painful challenge in a time of deep uncertainty. Sarah K. Ramsey shares her journey, triumph, and powerful strategies for turning maddening thought cycles and pain into a life that can be peaceful, connected, and beautiful. Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Be inspired by Sarah's story of hitting bottom as an extreme people pleaser and putting everyone else first to triumph in a life and work that energizes her. She describes herself as the ultimate people pleaser. She looked to others to make decisions. Under all the people pleasing stress, Sarah finally had her wake up call when she blacked out while driving. Living For Others or Loving Others In her heart, Sarah loved people. Sarah's challenge was loving herself by having boundaries and speaking up for herself. Though, it was easy to stick up for others and help and protect them. Turning Tragedy and Service into Triumph A teen was was tragically killed by her boyfriend in her hometown. Sarah saw the glaring need to support the young people in her hometown. She started a mental health program and positive behavioral initiative for high school students. The program gained national attention and Sarah made helping people who are stuck in painful cycles and relationships her life's work. Identifying A Toxic Person In a healthy relationship, we ‘take turns' just like in kindergarten. In a toxic relationship, it's always the toxic person's turn. The toxic person is making, enforcing, breaking, and changing the rules. The toxic person is benefitting from the relationship the most. “It's pretty obvious who is getting the better end of the deal.” What to Do If You're In A Toxic Relationship Keep a calendar that tracks how happy or miserable you are. Rate your day with a number from 1-10. Identifying if we are in a ‘flip-flopping' cycle. We are head over heels one day and ready to walk out the door the next. Look at the rest of our life. Are we in a season of hardship all around, or is it just with this person. With extreme clarity, identify the problem that needs to be solved. Toxic Kids and Teens This is a huge issue that needs attention right now. There is hope, kids can change, we do need to give more grace, and the bottom line is that they, too, need boundaries and consequences. “I've never heard or read or found anywhere that letting a teen be as bad as they wanted ever fixed the problem.” Writing Her First Book: Becoming Toxic Person Proof, Clear the Confusion and Learn to Trust Yourself (2021) Sarah's most successful choice in self-publishing was having a 30-person test reader group give her open and feedback. “I got all my bad reviews out of the way in the beginning from my test group… they hated how I started my book… It was hard to hear, but I changed it.” The book is a best-seller in several categories. Sarah is working on her second that will provide a framework for problem solving and decision making. These processes can be incredibly challenging after leaving a toxic relationship. Toxic Person Proof Podcast Sarah loves the podcast platform that allows her to meet experts in a variety of fields, have big and difficult conversations, and draws on her love for the art of conversation and that anything can happen…and, it's all recorded! We are all looking for that life-giving and energizing work and Sarah found it in podcasting and entrepreneurship. “It's a bit of a HIGH for me.” “I love that there are always new puzzles to solve and put together” About Sarah Sarah K Ramsey is a Toxic Relationship Specialist, Life Coach and NLP Master Practitioner who helps amazing women remember how amazing they are after enduring the pain of a toxic partner or parent. Healing From Cancer with Clarita Escalante The day all her fears were confirmed was the beginning of a healing journey she never imagined. Though Clarita quickly had her surgery, the long period of darkness and despair that followed brought her to knees. In the end, the despair gave rise to Clarita's need to understand her body and how it functions so that she would never be in that position again. She went back to school to study nutrition and became a Certified Transformational Nutrition Health Coach …but it wasn't enough for her. As she healed her physical body, deep awarenesses surfaced from within and she began her transformational inner work. Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Be inspired by how Clarita turned her cancer scare into a new life and lifestyle that she shares with others. Listen to Clarita's experience from her abnormal mammogram screening to her surgery and recovery. Discover the massive impact that journaling can have on our self awareness and well being. Episode Highlights Life Changing Diagnosis Four years ago Clarita was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer. She went in for her annual screening and after an abnormal reading and several follow up tests, she was told she had breast cancer. She was given her diagnosis on Friday and was scheduled for surgery the following Monday. Clarita was in shock and wanted more time to process. Her doctor told her, “(In a month) the cancer might progress to a more serious stage. …you are in a position in which you can have the surgery and move on with your life.” Sitting in Victim Mode For almost year Clarita blamed herself, was in disbelief, and asked herself over and over why this happened to her. She felt the world was against her. She felt the negative thoughts affecting her physically with headaches and discomfort in her body. Clarita had an impactful moment of clarity on a run. She pleaded with the Universe to get her out of this state. Soon after, she went back to school and studied nutrition. Nutrition is Vital But Not Enough “I ate healthy and exercised and yet was still at war within myself. I needed to heal myself from within.” Clarita started her inner healing process with childhood trauma work and therapy. She went on to do many other modalities. “I did a little bit of everything to be honest. And, I believe that's the best way to do it. You'll be surprised by what really speaks to you or really makes a difference for you.” Inner child work, meditation, and journaling have been the most impactful for Clarita. Offerings Clarita offers a motivational and inspirational text every Monday. On Fridays, she offers a newsletter filled with tools that focus on holistic health and nutrition. Throughout the week she posts recipes, updates and offerings, and motivation on her social media. Most recently Clarita published her Wellness Journal. “I couldn't talk about a healthy lifestyle without talking about the journal. This is the most powerful tool that made and continues to make the biggest difference in my life.” Sometimes We Have The Best Intentions… Clarita noticed that most of her clients and community members truly wanted to make changes and new and healthy habits. The challenge is actually understanding that we need to intentionally create space for it. The journey of holistic health begins with dedicating time and space for it instead of waking up and letting the day take you wherever the needs of others and work are. The journal has a planner to help carve out time for ourselves, set intentions, commit to our goals and dreams, and stick to them. “There is a magic that happens when you really put our thoughts into paper. There's a connection that happens within yourself. I started writing and sharing my journey with myself and really looking into my thoughts. I realized that even though I was working on my health journey on the outside, my inner thoughts were so toxic.” “We live busy lives and thoughts just come in. We make decisions every single day based on those thoughts. Sometimes our thoughts are not the reality of who we are.” The Wellness Journal is a tool to have awareness of our thoughts. I Rise, You Rise In the process of publishing her journal, Clarita reached out to them to ask other women who had published books and journals. She was overwhelmed by their willingness to share every bit of their process. After she published, many women who were inspired by her work asked her how she did it. Clarita was able to pay it forward and share her process with them. In her podcast, Clarita shares her journey and knowledge. She also interviews other amazing women who share their journeys and knowledge. “(They) show us, inspire us, motivate us to continue on our journey. I have learned so much from these women.” 1% Better Everyday Clarita was inspired by the book Atomic Habits “We overestimate what we can do in a day and underestimate what we can do in a year.” Everyday, her goal is to be 1% better than before. She makes this happen by making space everyday to journal, acknowledge this intention, and recommit to it daily. About Clarita Clarita Escalante lives in Arizona with her husband and she has two daughters in college. She works full time in the mortgage industry while hosting her podcast The Clarita Escalante Show, coaching clients on their health and goals journey, publishing a weekly newsletter and weekly text, and launching her first holistic healing retreat. In 2018, Clarita received a diagnosis for breast cancer and has been sharing her journey since. She had her surgery three days after her diagnosis and screenings every 3 months thereafter. Most recently, she has been cleared to have screenings every 6 months! Clarita attributes her healing to healthy and holistic habits in nutrition, mindfulness, holistic therapies, inner child work, and journaling. The biggest step for her was making her time and needs a priority everyday. Enjoy the Podcast? If you enjoyed today's episode of The Heidi B Show, then hit subscribe, and share it with your friends! Visit Beth at her website Beth is offering Heidi B listeners a high value workbook for FREE: From Conflict to Confidence Check out Beth's beautiful and inspiring Instagram Episode Highlights Life Isn't A Rehearsal “Creating a life I love has been a massive learning curve.” New to her 40s, Beth became less tolerant with things she didn't want in her life anymore. 40 really is the new 25. In our 40s we know who we are, taking bolder steps feels more natural, we've made BIG mistakes and survived, and care less of what others think. At 40, and with our resources and experience, we stand at the precipice of opportunity. Now the doors are really wide open. “Life isn't a rehearsal and we get one shot. If you're not happy anymore and need to pivot or change…Or, believe there's something out there that might be better for me… At that point, life is worth exploring.” When we do what we love, is it really working? If it's not then retiring doesn't mean the same thing as it might have in our parents' time. What is Executive Leadership? It is for clients who are newly in the corporate world or newly promoted to a managerial role or as a team leader. In entering leadership roles, we may be new to making decisions, having certain conversations, setting expectations, etc. Common Blocks for New Executives When we are new to leadership positions we often struggle with the confidence to speak up in front of top managerial teams. Knowing how and when to delegate. We are suddenly in charge of getting something done, but it doesn't necessarily need to be done by us. Communicate expectations of what you're looking for from your team. Often we are communicating with people who were our peers before our promotion. Leading with Integrity Often when we are new to leadership positions we can be distracted by focussing on the next level of success. This leads to people pleasing and looking for whom we need to impress to be promoted next. “How do I reach the next level of success while retaining a level of integrity and keeping what's true and important at the forefront.” How to Make Executive Decisions Decision making can be linked to personality types. The data collector type, the waffling type, the gut reacting type, and others. It's important to have the self awareness around how we make our decisions. Regardless of personality type, it's important to gather just the right amount of facts. We take our personal needs out of the decision making, and think for the greater good of the team or unit. Stay open and teachable and be prepared to pivot if a better choice arises. Contrary to what our pride tells us, raising our hand and being accountable or ready to pivot is a POWER move. Four Steps to Successful Conflict Resolution-- W.I.N.N. Who-- Look at self first. Impact (vs. Intention)-- Sometimes we have a good intention but the outcome or impact isn't what you wanted to achieve. Be clear with intention and what you want to achieve. Narrate-- Have the difficult conversation with confidence, authenticity, and strong communication skills. Nurture-- Monitor the situation you previously had conflict with. Beth's Daily Non Negotiables She wakes up at 5:30 and has 30 minutes to herself with her cup of English tea and journal. She creates an intention about how she wants to show up in the day. Beth considers who needs her best today and how she can be in service. She may do this by visioning or positive affirmations. Beth is almost as evangelical about weight lifting as she is about her coaching. She needs movement and loves peloton and weight lifting and needs to do it daily. Beth ends her day the same as she started, with journaling and reflection. About Beth Beth currently lives in London and started her coaching business during COVID. She had been in high level corporate sales in the fragrance industry for 20 years and has a talent for relationship management and finding creative ways of working. Beth loves to travel and her corporate leadership roles for the biggest fragrance and beauty care brands took her to projects in Paris, Singapore, New York, and London. Beth has always been devoted to developing, mentoring, and coaching her teams and brings that passion, experience, and success to her business. Enjoy the Podcast? Later in her life she worked as a teacher for children with special education needs. GiGi's Playhouse Karen's heart for children with Down syndrome led her to the non-profit organization, GiGi's Playhouse. They serve individuals with Down syndrome, their parents and community. Their mission is to change the way the world views Down syndrome and to send a global message of acceptance for all. As with most non-profit organizations, everyone often wears many hats. Karen's talent for visual teaching and graphics made her the obvious choice for social media management. Honoring Our Heart's Desire Ten years ago, Karen and her friend Val were trying to launch their work in building community around storytelling. Divorce, working three jobs, and other life struggles made them press pause on their dream. Ten years later, they are picking up where they left off and last month, Karen and Val launched their first podcast called Talking and Healing. Turning Our Struggles into A Community of Healing and Growing Karen's childhood was riddled with unpredictability, instability, and lack of safety as she grew up with a father who suffered from schizophrenia. Trauma response and coping mechanisms have served her at times and hurt her in others. Karen's growth and continued healing has inspired her to create a space and community for healing. Inspiration and Motivation Karen is a member of the Powerhouse Women where she is a part of the inspiration and community that she seeks to build and pass on. When there is self-doubt or things get hard “Heidi and all the Powerhouse Women keep me going… it's about watching all the stories and seeing all the bigger picture and possibilities”. “My mom's struggles inspire me. She was so beat down when I was young… she didn't think she was good enough”. Saving the World Before 5:30 a.m. Karen's morning routine starts as soon as her eyes pop open and she jumps out of bed. She makes her bed, clears the kitchen, and goes into her quiet and peaceful office. Karen schedules everything including working out. By 8 am, Karen has done more than most! About Karen Karen lives in Illinois with her three dogs and husband. She has three adult children and two step daughters that are always on her heart. Karen has a background in teaching special education and special needs children and is now the social media manager of the Hoffman Estates location of GiGi's Playhouse. There she uses social media to share the joy, beauty, and success of individuals with Down syndrome. The Red Flag Collectors with Danielle Hare “Your life should be a reality show!” But, until a television network like Bravo comes banging down her door, Danielle is sharing her real life comedy and chaos on her podcast, The Red Flag Collectors. Her wild and unfiltered approach to red flags, friendship, dating, and relationships hits home because it's relatable and what some of us may have experienced but too shy to share. Danielle adds different perspectives and education to mix with a range of guests that shed light on the sometimes puzzling behaviors around dating and relationships. Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Be inspired by Danielle's determination to stay true to her voice and style and how podcasting has given her confidence to be more and more herself. Learn how Danielle found her mentor and the impact it makes on her business and life. Hear the challenge of keeping her business professional when her business is sharing her actual personal life. Episode Highlights My Accent Piece is a Framed MGK Setlist Danielle is just moving into her new and beautiful home! “I'm NEVER moving again until I buy house or get rich and famous!” Building an Empire on My Terrible Luck With Dating “My good friend kept saying to me ‘your life should be a reality show'” Danielle started with the idea of writing a book and pivoted to podcasting. She is an avid follower of Barstool Sports and is inspired by their style and business values. Danielle's Moment of Clarity Danielle heard a Barstool Sports founder, Dave Portnoy, talking about the kind of people he looks for in podcasting and posted an email address for audition submissions. She went for it. “I hate my job, I'm miserable, it's corona, I'm going to do this.” The name, The Red Flag Collectors, came to her on a walk. One Year Anniversary of The Red Flag Collectors! Danielle is sponsored and has a 10K following! Her show has evolved to add new perspectives and education around dating, relationship, psychology, sex experts, and so much more. She doesn't want it to be about shock value, but about real stories and what we can take away from them. Part of her success is her genuine relatability and courage to stay true to herself by being more and more open and honest. She continues to push herself to find more and different ways of growing her business. She is now vlogging at concerts and events like Machine Gun Kelly and the Electric Zoo Festival. Danielle's Biggest Fear Danielle shares that in the beginning she was mostly consumed with what people would think and how they would make fun of her. Her mindset shifted to knowing that if people are making fun of her or downloaded her because they were outraged… that's attention and a download! “Let me live rent-free in your head. I don't care.” Another byproduct of walking through the fear is that Danielle's self-confidence has grown and her people-pleasing behaviors have diminished. She is unapologetically herself and UNBOTHERED, as her popular merchandise spells out. Guest Scouting and Boundaries Finding guests she vibes with and aligns with the energy of the podcast is a challenge. When personal friends want to be on the show they need to pitch her, too. She's keeping the personal and professional separate. “I spend a lot of money and time on this… sometimes [friends] don't realize it's serious” Goals and Inspiration From the beginning, being on Barstool Sports has been the goal. She is an active follower of the Barstool Sports CEO, Erika Nardini. Danielle reaches out to Erika Nardini for guidance and advice. “She takes no shit and that's what I aspire to be”. Danielle is drawn to the genuine qualities and values of Barstool Sports, Chicks In the Office, and Erika Nardini. Most recently, she was inspired by someone she deeply admires that “the grind is worth it!” Danielle works in marketing and knows firsthand the massive potential in the business of being an influencer. Visit Lily on Instagram┃Facebook Check out the How She Reigns Community on Instagram Listen to Lily's podcast How She Reigns Episode Highlights Breakthrough Reiki played a massive role in Lily's healing. So much so that she became a practitioner in order to pass the healing on to others. Lily shares that, along with reiki, sessions with a shaman and a powerful aura reading were the greatest early influences in her health journey. She knew she finally found something that worked for her. How She Reigns Lily's digital community for women is a space where women share their struggles, power, and passions to empower other women. Lily followed her curiosity around the journeys of other women in the entrepreneurial space. “My why is wanting to other people's why's… and the how's--how can we do this together, how can we share as a community…” Health and Wellness Pop-ups Lily is passionate about sharing products that heal. Of course, education is a big part of it which includes the science and details of the products. At a pop-up, she can also use her intuitive skills by exploring people's stories to get the bigger picture of their health and well-being needs. The multitude of health products can be overwhelming, and Lily is passionate about creating a comforting and safe environment in which they feel cared for and heard. While she absolutely loves the products, as she attunes the person's needs, she can discover if consultation, nutrition counseling, or life coaching may be of greater benefit. Being Part of a Community Lily is inspired by the deeply meaningful impact of being a part of the West African community in her Canadian neighborhood while she was growing up. As an adult, it continues to root for her. Lily's sense of belonging to that community fills her with a sense of pride as she finds success on her journey. When Lily and her husband moved from Canada to the Bahamas for 15 years to build their business, she experienced the importance and power of finding community. “It takes a good 3 years… we were there for 15 years so I guess we figured it out.” How to Find Community “You gotta try something new! That thing you see online that you're not sure about… try it!” Lily's first instinct when she noticed the communities she is now a part of was, “that's not my thing all…share my stuff on Facebook? …that's not me!” She did it anyway and found the support and friends she knows she will know she will know for life. “And, why not?… Just plug in… and, if you don't like it, try something else.” In the End, It's the Freedom! Lily loves being with people, working with people, sharing things with people, and doing things together. Yet, she chose the entrepreneurial journey, which still baffles her. In the end, Lily shares that it's the freedom to pick and choose what to do and when and how to do it that keeps her on the entrepreneurial journey. She loves that her family can watch her journey and be inspired to act on ideas. “I think this is my way of giving back… these things live inside of me for a reason…and so why not!” About Lily Lily lives with her 3 children and husband just outside of Toronto, Canada. She is the founder and creator of How She Reigns which is a community and podcast for women who are stepping into their power. She is a reiki practitioner, an actress, a storyteller, is an owner of a healing business, and an expert on health and wellness. Increasing Your Visibility with Florence Andrews Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Discover the powerful practices and mindsets Florence has used to bring her best to the theatres in the West End and the big screen. Hear Florence's behind the scenes experience of filming a huge Ridley Scott film in Italy during a COVID lockdown. Visit Florence's website┃Instagram┃Facebook Episode Highlights Born for the Stage Florence grew up in a lively bohemian household surrounded by actors, artists, and musicians. She felt called to performance and the arts while her family and community encouraged her. Her father showed them old MGM classics like The King and Carousel. Florence performed throughout her years in school and her first professional performance was Stephen Sondheim's A Little Night Music, directed by Trevor Nunn. Internal Tug of War As Florence began her professional career in musical theatre, mindset blocks started popping up. Though she knew what she was capable of and loved the work, self-sabotage in the forms of second guessing and stage fright tug at her. Florence made the decision to work through her blocks by reading everything she could on mindset work, manifestation, and performance psychology. Enter the Pandemic When COVID hit, theatres closed and everyone was sent home to quarantine. Florence couldn't perform but saw a need that brought together her long experience in the theatre and her passion for mindset work. Her own personal work and success in mindset and theatre made her uniquely qualified to be a visibility and success coach. Embrace Our ‘Inner Weirdo' Instead of hiding behind quotes, memes, and graphics, Florence wanted to support powerful business women by helping them give permission to themselves to be seen, to make themselves visible. Many of us are subconsciously and automatically driven to ‘dial it down' or dim our lights because we've been shamed in the past for shining out. We carry that shame and story with us. However, it's often that very spark or uniqueness that we dim that sets us apart, is a part of our gift or offering, and will lead us to our personal success. “It is absolutely liberating to reconnect with that spark… and give yourself permission to shine out without shame. 3 Tips for Increasing Visibility Reframe our fear as excitement. When we are sitting in fear, instead of trying to calm ourselves and dispel the fear, attach the physical sensations to excitement rather than fear. We can redefine the knots in our stomach or weak knees as excitement. WHen our brain begins to think of it as excitement, it can stop the sabotaging thoughts and behaviors. The fear and adrenaline can then turn from sabotage to giving us our edge. It is helpful to press your thumb and forefinger together when creating the anti-thought. Dance with fear instead of running from it. Fear isn't going anywhere, but we can see it as a badge of honor, as a marker of us getting out of our comfort zone and into growth. Acknowledge that it is trying to be useful, that it can and will be present, but it is not in control. Remember to turn the light outwards rather than inwards. Focus the light on the thing we are putting out into the world rather than the inward things we worry about. People are looking for the value of the thing we are offering and not the mistakes or gaps we may perceive. BONUS tip: Draw a vertical line with 0 on the left end 100 on the right end. Think of the particular thing you are worried about and how much of it, out of 100, that you feel confident about. Mark that point. If it's 70%, mark that point on the horizontal line. Draw a vertical through that mark. On the left, between 0 and 70, make bullet points of all the things that give you confidence around it. On the right, between 70 and 100, write all the things that make you feel uncertain or timid. Cross out the right side and focus on everything on the left. Make that 70% of the thing, 100% of what you focus on. House of Gucci About a year before COVID, Florence had taken a year off to be with her son. She returned to work but after 3 days back, everyone was told to go home and the theatres closed due to COVID Florence had been in theatre in the West End for 14 years and in recent years desired to do screen work, too. It was a challenge to transition to screen as she was so well known for her theatre work. In January of 2021, she was doing some screen work mostly in ads, and she was told to send in a self taped audition for a Ridley Scott movie. Florence thought they would likely go with an actor with a bigger name but she sent in her tape which included her singing Italian opera. It was her first time filming a movie and most everyone's first time filming a movie in Italy during a COVID lockdown with it's many restrictions. Unless the actors were running a scene, all the actors were in their trailers. They all had very little contact with each other outside of actual filming. She admired and appreciated Ridley Scott's dynamic and ego-less directing style. When something wasn't working, he was willing to let go of his original vision and reset. Florence had a surprising moment in which Ridley Scott asked for an unplanned closeup. It was a moment that maybe in the past, she would have shrunk a bit from, but she gave herself permission to show off and take up space. She let herself “be the persons they clearly trusted you to be by giving you the job”. Daily Non Negotiables… that don't always happen Have a cut off time in the evening. “Yes, I could keep going, but it's not worth it. Rest is part of productivity. Protecting her energy. Florence makes boundaries around replying to people. For example, sometimes she replies for 20 minutes in the morning, then 20 minutes in the afternoon. If we don't create these types of boundaries, we could spend the whole morning replying or be distracted throughout the day to reply right away. Journaling. Florence has been journaling since she was 10 years old. It is her saving grace, safe space, and the practice that serves her the most. Though she loves writing prompts, she more often starts free flowing the things that are in her mind. She gets the things that are ricocheting in her mind out onto paper. When she enters a flow state, she notices that her higher self takes over. When Florence finds her mind in a space lack or scarcity, jornaling brings her back. About Florence Florence Andrews is Hollywood and West End Lead actress whose credits include School of Rock, Miss Atomic Bomb, Once, Wicked, The Wizard of Oz, The Mikado, Annie Get Your Gund, A Little Night Music, and, most recently, Ridley Scott's feature film House of Gucci. Florence is also a success and visibility mindset coach who lives in London with her two sons and many chickens. She loves films, chocolate, and anything that has to do with mindset and peak performance psychology. Florence sees the parallels in her experience as an actor and as entrepreneur, both requiring grit, courage, and being unapologetically visible. Enjoy the Podcast? The Balance and Flow of Feng Shui with Kate MacKinnon During the early months of quarantine some of us were suddenly working from home on dining tables, couches, in our bedrooms, corners of the house, garages, and even closets and cars. We experienced a new relationship with our home environment and how we inhabited it. Some of us rearranged, repurposed, or completely renovated our spaces to meet our sudden and new needs. As we looked at our spaces we may have noticed areas we didn't use, enter as much, or may have even avoided. There may be spaces that feel heavy or off-balance when we are in them. Now, some of us continue to work from home or some hybrid of in-person and at-home work and could use some guidance around how to harmoniously integrate our needs. According to Feng Shui principles and expert Kate MacKinnon, there are adjustments we can make to allow balance and flow into our ‘new' spaces to create a harmony of peace, productivity and joy in our homes. Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Be inspired by Kate's journey to the highest levels of the corporate world in the earlier years of technology in business. Hear how Kate balanced her talents and interests in art and design with her corporate career in technology. Discover the practical power of Feng Shui and how we can make adjustments to our environment to increase abundance and energy externally and internally. Visit Kate's website┃Instagram┃Facebook┃LinkedIn Watch Kate's TED Talk: Women, Aging and VisibilityVisit Kate's website┃Instagram┃Facebook┃LinkedIn Get Kate's 9 Free Feng Shui Tips Episode Highlights It Was Clear Early On… Kate was always an artist, did well in school, and had a lot of interests. Her childhood dream was to become an interior designer. At age 7, she daydreamed of rearranging people's homes and buying furniture for her best friend's dollhouse. In her elementary and high school years she was always doing art. Her parents' advice was to pursue ‘a real career and do art on the side'. The 70s Kate majored in Psychology and minored in Studio Art. Deeply influenced by the feminist movement and the women she admired. She moved to New York City and her first job was at Barnard College where she learned how to operate a word processor the size of a dining room table. She loved it and likened it to 3-D art as she merged texts and files. “Everything I learned about technology, I learned from that word processor”. “My Life is Filled with People Who Mentored Me” Kate was freelanced as a graphic artist and word processor operator. At a temp job, a woman saw her talent and mentored her. She gave her opportunities to learn how to fix computers, make decisions, and teach people how to use computers. The company hired Kate as a business systems analyst which is the underlying thread to her entire career in technology. Following Her Intuition Though technology in business was not widespread, Kate followed her intuition and left graphic design to focus on systems. After 6 years at this job, Kate's mentor suggested she look into banking, “banks are hiring people like you…I encourage you to find a job in technology”. Kate acknowledges that her mentor saw an aptitude in her that even she did not fully recognize. A Corporate Woman in Technology… in the 90s Kate never accepted assistant positions that were offered because she could operate a word processor. She had an MBA and was determined not to settle. In 1999, Chase Bank hired her. She was promoted along the way and found great success at Chase. Five years into her work at Chase, she felt unfulfilled in her creative and spiritual self. At the time she was working in training and development. Leap Into Entrepreneurship Kate had worked with many consultants in her work at Chase. She thought, “maybe I'll go and be a consultant”. “I was 40, and I thought if I was going to go off and be on my own, now is a good time. If I fail, I can always come back and get a job.” Kate held the faith that work would come. Two days after she left her job, she was hired for a 7 month job. There the woman who hired her helped her launch her career in training and development. “Art on the side” She was hired for a big Y2K project by Chase for which she would travel to Hong Kong. One of her coaches at the time introduced her to Feng Shui. While working on the project in Hong Kong she took a bus tour and saw Hong Kong through the lens of Feng Shui. The experience made a massive impact and connection for Kate. She loved how Feng Shui touched all the different interests and talents she had. When she returned in 2000, she studied Feng Shui under the Holiness Grand Master Professor Lin Yun who brought the BTB Feng Shui school to the west . As she grew her consulting company, she had a studio to do her work and study Feng Shui. Banker by Day, Feng Shui by Night In 2005, Kate took a job at Chase as she felt the economy changing. Gratefully, she had a ‘safe' job as the 2008 financial crisis hit. She practiced and consulted on Feng Shui on the side. In both realms of her work, she brings the spiritual to the concrete. What is Feng Shui? It is an ancient Chinese art and science of placement used to create harmony and the balance and flow of positive energy in your environment. The words literally mean ‘wind water' which are the two most basic elements of life. Feng Shui supports your life energy, or Qi. Five or six thousand years ago, it was originally used to identify land for farms or homes. It was used to find land that had good water, soil, food source, and protection. How Feng Shui Supports Us Many clients go to Kate when they feel stuck or are unsure of what to do with their environments. Using Feng Shui principles, Kate considers the energy of the person or people and the energy of the space and property. Our homes are a mirror of our inner self. It's like a map and if things are making us feel uncomfortable or blocked in our environment, when the external is adjusted, the internal is adjusted as well. Tips for Working at Home Don't set up the work space in the bedroom. Position the desk with your back toward a wall to feel energetically supported. Face yourself toward the door, but not in front of it. Have a good chair. The support is important. Clutter is the number one offender of Feng Shui. Start and end your day with a clear desk. Bring out one thing you're working on at a time. At the end of a day, close the door to the work space if possible. Kate's Daily Non Negotiables Sleep Gratitude Meditation About Kate Kate MacKinnon is a certified Feng Shui practitioner who has consulted in Feng Shui for businesses and individuals for over 20 years. Before becoming a Feng Shui expert, she worked in the corporate world as a Vice President for JPMorgan Chase & Co. and founded her management technology consulting company. Kate taught the first online Feng Shui course for the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and a workshop for the Hospital for Special Surgery and Global Real Estate Women's Group at JPMorgan Chase. She has written articles on Feng Shui and been a guest and interviewed by thought leaders on Speaking, Life Transitions, and Women Empowerment. Kate's inspiring talk on Women, Aging, and Visibility can be found on TED.com Kate's mission is to use the power and wisdom of Feng Shui to illuminate and inspire women to step into their power and greatness and live a life of beauty, grace, dignity, and Abundance and make a difference in the world. Visit Dulce's Instagram ┃ website Listen to Dulce's podcast Styling Your Higher Self Episode Highlights Obsessed with Guess As a young person, Dulce was obsessed with fashion and covered her walls the iconic black and white Guess ads from the 90s. She was the makeup artist and stylist to her three sisters and mother as well as friends and other family members. Paving Her Own Way After receiving her degree in Psychology, Dulce followed her passion and worked in retail fashion for 15 years. She loved the work and all the perks. She wanted to go to the next level and chose to marry her expertise in psychology and fashion with her own personal work around energy and become an energy and style coach. “I'm not here to just put a pretty outfit together. I want to make an impact energetically while I'm styling you and while we're working together.” Style and Energy Dulce is able to tune into a client's energy and/or the energy they want to step into. She helps them choose clothes that align with and bring forth that energy. She also does closet clearing to support clients in clearing the energy that no longer serves them to make space for their next level or new energy. We can communicate and emanate our energy through the style and clothes we choose. Our style and clothes can also embolden us to step into our power. Dulce cherishes the transformative moments of seeing her clients step into a higher version of themselves they may not have found as easily by continuing their old style. “A lot of them have already stepped into that person but they're still wearing the clothes that they were before they leveled up.” The big transformation happens when the client shifts into wanting it for themselves. The Virtual Closet Clearing Experience During a three hour process, Dulce takes the time to understand her client's energy and how they want to show up in their life, business, social media, etc. She walks them through their clothing and assesses what they need and don't need while advising and coaching on style and energy throughout. High Impact Styling In Dulce's three and six month programs, she walks her clients through the process of moving into their Higher Selves through their fashion. She helps them build their pieces and outfits to align with their current energy and shed the clothes that may keep them stuck. The six month program is well-suited for those who own businesses, travel a lot, CEOs, speakers, lawyers, doctors, etc. who need outfits all the time but don't have time to style themselves. Everyone Has Style One of the most common blocks Dulce observes is that we think we don't really have our own personal style. “Everybody does have style, they just haven't tapped into it, yet, because they get the same things over and over… the same colors and styles… It takes someone coming in with a different set of eyes to see what colors go well, what is best for their body shape, what actually fits them.” “That's what stylists do, they come in with new eyes and get you out of your comfort zone.” Expert Style Advice Accessories go a looooooong way. They add a little ‘extra', polish, and make an outfit look put together. Invest in a nice pair of denim. It is extremely versatile and makes an impact with whatever it's worn with. Make sure it's up to date and modern. A suiting and/or leather jacket in your wardrobe is essential. Style Your Highest Self with Dulce Badillo Dulce saw the need to have conversations about how we show up in the world, the energy we are in, and to tie the two together. “Anyone can wear cute clothes, anyone can look good. But (it's a different level) when you are in a certain energy, owning that energy, and you are clear, focussed and aligned.” “When people come up to you and compliment you on your outfit, they are also complimenting you on your energy. They are feeling safe enough to come up and say to you ‘oh my gosh I love your outfit' because your energy is on.” We dissect how we put ourselves together and how we show up in the world. We talk about owning our energy and letting that come through in our fashion and taking it to the next level. “I want people to understand that how we show up in our businesses or online really makes an impact” How Dulce Nurtures Her Highest Self “I have built really strong boundaries around time with myself. I promised myself I would not overwork myself and become stressed out in my business” Styling as many people as she can is not her goal. Dulce is focussed on making a meaningful impact with those she does style. Taking time to check in with herself, eat healthy, meditate, work out, etc, are priorities so she can show up 100% for her clients. “I'm busy but sometimes (that means) I'm busy working on myself.” About Dulce Dulce has always expressed herself through fashion and style. It came naturally to her as she was the stylist and makeup artist to her three sisters and mother. Dulce was obsessed with fashion and went on to get her psychology degree. After graduating, she spent 15 years in the fashion industry then made the leap to start her own business. She integrated psychology, fashion, and her own personal energy work to become an energy and style coach and host her podcast, Styling Your Highest Self. She also styles onset photoshoots and events while offering more personal, one-on-one coaching with closet clearings and three or six month programs. Dulce continues to style and do make-up for her sisters and mother… and now they pay her! Enjoy the Podcast? Visit Anne's website ┃Instagram ┃Twitter Check out the Vivino wine app. Here are the Low-No alcohol brands Anne mentioned: Seedlip and Noughty Episode Highlights Parlez-vous Français? Anne grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland in a household that appreciated wine. After she received her Language degree at University, she was certain she wanted to do anything but what the career office suggested. She moved to London and applied to the jobs that needed French language skills. Her first job happened to be at a wine agency that imported French wine. For the Love of Wine Though Anne's father shared his love of wine with her when she was young it was as an adult that she found her own fascination in wine. She enjoyed the industry, people, and lifestyle that shared a love of good living, food, drinking, and camaraderie. Anne appreciated the multidisciplinary aspect of wine. It involves geography, biology, chemistry, history, language, culture, and philosophy. Wine can often tell a story about a time, place, and family. It can be an intellectual and sometimes spiritual experience. Becoming a Master Her job started her with her first WSET (Wine and Spirit Education Trust) wine course and she continued studying wine for the next 10 years until she became a wine master. Wine master is the highest distinction of professional wine knowledge. She is one of only 416 wine masters in the world, of which 149 wine masters are women. The Master of Wine study programme, as well as the advanced qualifications leading to it, is rigorous and demanding including research papers, capstone paper, and several written exams. The Institute of Masters of Wine, of which Anne is a member, has a Diversity Committee and, in recent years, wine masters are from all over the world and from all walks of life. The Life of a Wine Master When consulting with restaurants on their drink menu and pairings, Anne may taste 80-90 wines in a day. At the end of the day, although she spits out the wine, it is quite exhausting for the palette. Anne gets to taste the amazing foods and desserts the chefs create to create the perfect drink pairing. One of her strangest wine pairing experiences was in Australia where she paired a kangaroo dish with Shiraz. Next month, Anne is exploring the indigenouse Greek grapes of Santorini to pair with the local foods. Wine Education from a Master A basic and broad rule for pairing wine is to match the richness of a wine with the richness of the food. A light salad may be paired with a light and crisp white or a lighter crisp red. Rich and creamy food like cheese or rich meats may be paired with a wine with a rich body. Wine is geography. The warmer the climate in which the grapes grow, the higher the alcohol, fuller the body, and lower the acidity of the wine. The Chablis wine is produced in the cooler climates of Northern France. The grape is actually a Chardonnay grape but because it's grown in the cooler region, it's quite crisp with lots of acidity and not too much body or alcohol. A Merlot grape grown in the warmer climate of Napa is going to be rich and full-bodied. In Anne's cache of wine, the greater majority of her few hundreds of bottles are from France. Though the rest of her collection are from all over the world. Her least favorite wines are from a small variety in South Africa called Pinotage. She personally does not prefer the smokiness that compares to a barbeque. There is a No-Low alcohol-free movement in the UK and has several respectable brands. Though spirits, beers, and sparkling wine have made a lot of progress in quality, still wine faces the challenge of achieving the balance and texture that comes from alcohol. There is a lot of research focussed on making no-low alcohol options that would be desirable to drink. More Tips from a Wine Master Shop at a local wine merchant and develop a relationship with them. The merchants have gone to great lengths to source their wine and know about each bottle on the shelf. Use wine apps like Vivino. Check labels or wine descriptions to learn the words and language that are used to describe wines that you already enjoy. Use them to communicate to sommeliers and merchants to find similar types so you can explore something different. About Anne Anne is based in London where she is a wine communicator, consultant, and educator. In 2016, she founded her consultancy and education business where her massive experience and expertise led her to craft her direction in life around wine and her passions. She designs wine lists and works as an ambassador for brands and wine regions. She offers wine education at all levels from her signature program called Diploma Therapy for WSET diploma students to wine series on Instagram. She is involved with the Institute of Masters of Wine and many other notable wine organizations. Enjoy the Podcast? Chipping teeth. “I'm so busy” is a sign that we are stretched too thin. If we are stretched too thin, we are missing our opportunity to do things to the best of our ability. “I'm bored” can be a sign of being so overloaded that we become numb. Feeling imposter's syndrome. We will jump to deliver everything so we can keep up. Headaches. Sleeping too much or too little. We Become Resilient by Getting Up After a Fall Nicole took a leave of absence and did ALL the things (books, conferences, her doctor, work stress coach, couple's therapist, psychiatrist, etc) to get back to a healthier mental place. Near the end of her leave, Nicole decided to choose her wellbeing and follow her dream to start her own business drawing on all of her experience. The Hard Part Practicing being brave, working on my own resilience, putting myself out there, Launching a new program after hundreds of hours of creating something with love and tears… and then crickets. I Don't Do it All… No One Can Do it All Doing it all is not a healthy goal. I pick and choose what gets my attention that day or week. Not feeling bad about not doing it all is a practice. Freedom in Minimalism with Rose Lounsbury Most of us have had stints of being motivated enough to purge things from our home, closet, garage, office, or basement. I even did the minimalism challenge and lasted a few weeks into it. Every time I did it, it felt great, successful, and freeing. But, two things always happen, it piles back up and the idea of purging again is overwhelming so we put it way off or do little purging moments to try to get the same feeling. Rose Lounsbury is a Simplicity Coach and she shares with us the freedom and peace that comes from minimalism and simplifying our lives. She reveals some of the reasons we have so many things in our environment, why we hold on to them, and how to let go. Unless minimalism and simplicity is a mindset rather than moments of purging, it's hard to keep up the practice that can open up space in our environment, minds, and life to have the life we want. Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Hear how Rose made it to the TEDxDayton stage and how her message got 500K views. Be inspired to feel the freedom from anxiety and burden of our things. Learn effective strategies to get a start on simplifying your life beyond just decluttering things. Join Rose's community in the Facebook group Minimalism is Fun Episode Highlights Having Triplets ...and Being a Full-time Teacher Rose took off a couple of years from teaching to be with her new triplets. “Having triplets was like learning to fly, I had no special training or skills… being a stay-at-home mom was the hardest job I've ever had to do!” She returned to classroom to save her sanity. Three Jobs and Only One of them is a Paid Job Rose noticed that there were three shifts in a day: the first was in the classroom for which she was paid, the second was taking care of the family until their bedtime, and the third was picking up all the things after 9pm. It was exhausting and a never ending cycle. Rose left the classroom that winter. The family went on a road trip to visit grandparents for the holidays and returned with a van stuffed with presents from grandparents. Rose realized she didn't have enough room for the stuff they already had, much less the new stuff. “I thought I was going to organize my way out it” A friend introduced Rose to minimalism. Instead of organizing her way out it, she tried simplifying her way out of it. After eight months, the house looked different. The physical change was wonderful, but, more importantly, the emotional change of being released from the burden and anxiety that was life-changing Simplifying Life WIthout having to spend time taking care of the things, she had more free time to read a book, have a glass of wine, and so much more. After shedding and letting go of the physical things, she felt the momentum to continue to declutter less tangible things like finances, expectations of self, and unhealthy behaviors, etc. The pattern of simplicity is to let go of things that don't serve us so we can make room for the life we want. We Are So Used to Living This Way We cling to the cluttered environment, cluttered relationships, cluttered finances, and cluttered health. We don't realize that the things we cling to are burdensome, keep us down, keep us from what we want, or from feeling good. “I FEEL So Much Better” After many clients let go of the physical things in their environment, they all say “I FEEL so much better”. It's an emotional experience. Rose is most interested in helping people feel better and more free to have the life they want. Mindset, Old Stories, Societal Norms Keep Us from Letting Go We fear we'll need it someday and that we need to be prepared. But, the best indicator of future behavior is past behavior. If we haven't been using the thing, it is HIGHLY likely we will not use it in the future. Of course it's possible, but HIGHLY unlikely How difficult would it be to replace it? Someone else could be using this thing today. Tips to Start Uncluttering Have a constant donation box. Don't put it back or hang it back up if it's no longer useful or beautiful to you. Start with your own things. This will very likely inspire those around you to do the same. Start somewhere that is emotionally easy for you, where the emotional attachment is low. You're dealing with your feelings so towels or personal care products are innocuous enough. To the TEDx Stage In 2018, Rose's blog readers suggested she apply to become a TEDx speaker. She submitted an application in June and was one of fifty to be called back to audition. Based on that audition she was one in eighteen to be called back to do a TEDxDayton talk. She worked with a coach to craft the presentation for four months and did the TEDx talk in October. How To Write A Book (with Triplets) Rose hired a coach with a team that helped her with the writing, marketing, cover design, layout, graphic design, putting it on Amazon called Less: Minimalism For Real. The financial investment and timeframe kept her motivated. She hired childcare, wrote in coffee shops, stayed up late, wrote on weekends for five months. Of course, she could've figured it out on her own and found free offerings on the internet for similar services. But coaching and making the financial investment increased the probability of having a book in the end. An Achilles Heel So much work goes into launching and the outcome is always uncertain. Even if we've done it before, it's scary and can feel like it's always the first time. We can plan, plan, plan, take the courses, get coaching but the actual launch can always feel scary. I Don't Do it All The idea of women doing it all is misleading. The message that we can do it all is a trap that makes us set unrealistic expectations that we can never measure up to. Men aren't asked how they do it all. “I do what I can, I do what is for me to do, I do the best I can, and at the end of the day there will still be things that are undone. It's not a failure” Rose tries her best not to do it all because as a recovering overachiever the instinct to do it all is hard to overcome. When we do try to do it all it's exhausting and makes us feel like crap. One daily non-negotiable that Rose is rigid about is 7 hours of sleep. Nothing is good if we are deprived of sleep. The only exception is if she has to wake up early for a flight to somewhere fun and beautiful. About Rose Rose Lounsbury is a speaker, an Amazon best-selling author, and Simplicity Coach that helps professionals let go of what's holding them back and open up to bigger lives. She was balancing her middle school teaching career with two year old triplets when she was introduced to minimalism in 2012 that changed her life. She left the classroom to help women live happier, more fulfilled lives without all the stuff. Rose spends her days speaking, writing, and coaching clients and online students about the freedom of open spaces. Rose has shared her message on the TEDx stage and her talk has 500K views. Her advice has been featured on USA Today, Good Day Columbus, and Good Morning Cincinnati, along with several radio programs. Enjoy the Podcast? Connect with Emily on Instagram Episode Highlights: From Ohio to London In 2008, Emily was on course to the Psychology graduate program at Northwestern University when a gut feeling turned her around and she went back to Ohio with no plan or clarity. She worked a series of low paying jobs, including Starbucks, and got serious about following her dreams to live in London where she knew no one. This was the beginning of Emily tuning into her intuition and trusting herself even if it didn't make sense. Emily in London Emily applied to graduate programs in London, worked as a nanny, and was shocked by the difference in cost of living compared to Ohio. While giving online dating a chance, Emily met her husband. She wrote a book of her online dating experience in London which sounds like a perfect Netflix series! Emily's husband is a huge part of her life and success story. In hindsight, she knows that her gut feeling led her to him and London. Entering Entrepreneurship A friend sent a link to Marie Forleo's website. Emily realized she could see herself in her and doing this work. She had no idea what she was doing but did it anyway. Emily joined Marie Forleo's program, devoured other people's content, and pieced together a roadmap to create her business. In her first workshops with 7 people, she helped women evaluate their lives and their levels of satisfaction. Following Instincts and Enthusiasm From one-on-one coaching to group programs to webinars to huge live events and everything in between, Emily followed her own excitement to guide her offerings. “If I'm excited about it, it's going to sell much better than anything I have to force myself to sell” Money Mindset is the Critical Game Changer The most common block is the mindset around charging and selling. When we identify our money mindset blocks and from where they came we can transform our thoughts to look at money in a different way. Some of us are addicted to focussing on lack. In this process we can get clear on what we actually want and set goals to make the money we desire and deserve Adding Podcasting to the Mix In 2018, Emily was invited to be a part of another platform. Though it wasn't the right fit for her, someone saw something in her and the power of her voice which prompted her own show. She started with interviews and teaching episodes. Now she loves introducing her large community to powerhouses, experts, and influencers that can impact them in ways that are different from her own. Getting Focused by Going Bigger Earlier this year, Emily realized that she was trying to make her business be two different things. She launched a second website and business that focuses on entrepreneurs realizing their business and financial potential, while I Heart My LIfe focuses on creating a life better than our dreams with personal and professional development While there are things you can plan, the reality is that you're making decisions in real time during a pivot. Emily follows her intuition and experience while keeping her purpose and inner knowing at the center. About Emily: Emily is a success coach, author, podcaster, speaker, and founder of I Heart My LIfe, an education, lifestyle and media company. Emily graduated from college in Ohio with a psychology degree and was on her way to the Northwestern University graduate program when she made a decision to follow her dreams to live in London. While living there for nine years, she met her husband, founded her massively successful 7-figure business, wrote her book I Heart My Life, found her dream home in London, became a British citizen, and so much more. She and her husband moved to Austin, Tx in 2020 where they are currently building their new dream house. With I Heart My Life, an education, lifestyle, and media company, Emily offers a myriad of programs that help women reach the next level in money, relationships, mindset, business or career, and more. On her new website, Emily offers masterminds, luxurious VIP days, and one-on-one coaching and consulting work around money and business. Enjoy the Podcast? Parenting Mindset with Cindy Brown It's utterly crushing when we hear our children speak negatively of themselves or fixate on something that they think they didn't do well enough. We swoop in as their biggest cheerleaders with loads of positivity and evidence that they are worthy and amazing. We react to these moments whenever they pop up and put the sunniest bandaid on that moment hoping it's enough. As a veteran educator and family mindset coach, Cindy Brown shares that these moments stem from the child's internal thoughts and beliefs that come from their experiences and the messaging they receive. Even if they are surrounded by cheerleaders and loving adults, their internal thoughts can often be fixed and negative. Cindy explains that unless we work on developing a mindset as a family, the supportive parenting strategies may not be as effective. Family mindset is a common language, shared values, and a practice that is a foundation for encouraging our children's confidence and grit. From the adults all the way to the littlest of children, everyone has the tools, understanding, and safe space to practice exploring, experimenting, and sharing experiences and emotions rather than expectations. Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Hear how Cindy pivoted from being in education for 30 years to creating her business at the beginning of the pandemic. As a result of everything going online, she was able to extend her reach well beyond her network and community. Discover strategies to relieve the stressful tension around expectations and assumptions in us and our children as we move back into the classrooms. In the last seven years as an educator, Cindy's observations of how children's environment and experience deeply affected their internal thoughts led her to mindset development work. Cindy began planning her move into entrepreneurship two years before her planned retirement. She had little to no experience in business so she focussed on finding women who had success in this area. She joined The Junior League of Phoenix and the Powerhouse Women Community. These spaces gave her opportunities to grow in diff areas--committee work, social media, fundraising, promotion, marketing, networking, etc Pivoting at the Beginning of a Pandemic As Cindy's pivot coincided with the pandemic and everything going virtual, she began to build her cache of video content. As a result, she was able to share her message and program well beyond her built-in community in education in her local area. She spoke at conferences with participants from all around the world. Common Block for Parents with Tweens and Teens Awareness--Internal thoughts start at a very early age and mindset development needs support much sooner than we notice. Convenience--It seems easier to make choices for our children regarding schedules, activities, and their path. But this doesn't create space for a child to develop a sense of responsibility, agency, or worth. Communication--Parents often make statements instead of asking supportive and open questions. Statements and expectations mold the internal thoughts and messages while open questions allow for exploration, curiosity, and connection. Tips for Parenting that Empowers Know your internal messaging and history of messaging as a child. Become an emotional scientist by asking questions that inspire curiosity around an upcoming experience (new experiences in school as we transition to in-person this fall). “I wonder who you'll get for math?”, “I wonder if there will be new clubs to join?”, “I wonder what xyz will be like?”, rather than “The first day will be so great!”, “You're going to do so great!” Talk in terms of goals we have as a family for school, friendship, community, etc. Have a family charter of three main values and talk about what this looks like and means for each member. It becomes a reference point or guidepost to support conversations and experiences we have. Cindy's Entrepreneurial Mindset When entrepreneurship is a roller coaster, Cindy remembers “Even though I'm ready I have to wait until they're ready.” “What I'm doing is going to make a difference. I know this because I did the work and I live it now. I felt the change and more balanced and less stressed--I taught it for years but it wasn't until I walked through it and lived it...when it became more than words” “They might be small steps in the big picture but I am going forward because I keep showing up” Cindy's Non Negotiables A firm but flexible routine and schedule. There are things I want to get done and I make time for movement, quiet time like guided meditation, or watching the dog explore, and journaling. Recording everything on all the calendars and keeping all engagements on Calendly. Cooking and eating well and not on the run. For the Parent that is Struggling with Their Child(ren) Start with self by observing and remembering your own internal messaging. Reflect on how you communicate. Are you trying to be a cheerleader while coming off as a judge? Reflect on whether you are making more statements or asking more questions? Simplifying Nutrition with Gillean Barkyoumb With all the things we balance on our plates, trying to plan for, shop, and make nutritious food can be one of the things that fall off easily. Even those of us who love cooking and enjoy creating healthy dishes often reach for convenience because it's been one of those days. Some of us are stuck in a rut with the same shopping lists and the same recipes because we don't have the time to look for new inspiration or plan meals in advance. And, of course, the meals have to be healthy while also making every palette at the table happy, too! Gillean Barkyoumb is a dietician and the founder of Millenial Nutrition and the What's for Dinner Club. She has also partnered with a brand to support her mission helping healthy women find freedom and relief by making healthy eating convenient and simple. Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Learn a few tips and formulas to simplify creating a balanced meal or snack on the fly. Hear Gillean's journey from being a dietician in the corporate world to being an entrepreneurial dietician with a brand partnership. Be inspired by how Gillean used her social media platform to land her first brand partnership. Also, hear her secrets on creating beautiful, fun, and relatable content every week. As a highschool athlete, she saw that certain foods fueled better performance or better time. She made the connection that paying attention to how different foods affect us encourages better performance in our life and relationships. From Corporate Dietician to Entrepreneurial Dietician After receiving her Master's Degree in Nutrition, Gillean jumped into a corporate role that she loved and gave her many TV opportunities and to speak on stage. She loved her corporate dietician job as well as the stability and predictability it seemed to offer. Gillean left her corporate position after her eighth year and after having her second daughter. When she took the leap into entrepreneurship, she chose to take on a consulting opportunity to support the transition. The Question “What's For Dinner?” is a Pain Point for So Many Even as a dietician, Gillean struggles with this! Figuring out dinner, shopping, planning, preparing, and making sure it's healthy took hours and hours. Making it simple and convenient was a need she had. We want to do it all and have beautiful friendships, a spiritual life, good dinners, time for yoga, family life, and pursue our dreams. Gillean's goal is to take nutrition off our to-do list. The What's For Dinner Club and Membership It makes nutrition simple and convenient. Every Thursday, Gillean texts 4 ‘non-recipe' recipes in the form of a grocery list. There are minimal measurements, ideas to swap ingredients to suit your taste, and Gillean builds recipes to use the same ingredients to reduce wasting food or spending too much. Each recipe is simple but always has a bit of pizazz so it doesn't feel like we're eating the same thing over and over. Nothing over the top though! Each recipe is comes with a kid-friendly alternative and kid-tested by her best critics (her two and four year old daughters!) There are fun giveaways and loyalty prizes! Some recent crowd faves are the pasta bakes and the sweet potato beef tacos! Gillean's Tips to Simplify Healthy Eating Stick to a general eating schedule or routine. Gillean always has breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and keeps mid morning and mid afternoon snacks optional according to how her body feels. This eliminates decision fatigue and trying to make a choice while hangry. Automate grocery shopping with delivery or pick up! Instacart or any grocery delivery service streamlines the search, is a massive timesaver, and nearly always delivers good quality. Gillean's dinner formula simplifies building a healthy plate a food = veggies on half the plate + protein on a quarter + starch or grain on a quarter. Her snack formula = fruit or veggie + protein or healthy fat (her snack formula posts are some of her most viewed) . The protein or healthy fat will keep you satisfied longer. Brand Partnership with Ninja Kitchen, the Ninja Foodi Smoothie Bowl Maker and Nutrient Extractor Recently wrapped up her first contract with Ninja Kitchen Brand and starting her second one! A while back two separate friends sent her articles of Ninja Kitchen seeking their first ever Smoothie Sommelier. She submitted 2 smoothie bowl recipes, a video in which she did a smoothie tasting like a formal wine tasting. She offered observations on the ‘legs', ‘bouquet', color, etc of the smoothie bowl. The brilliant part of her submission that Ninja said sealed the deal was that she created an IG profile called Gillean Smoothie Bowl Sommelier in which each post featured the items she would have on a resume (inspired by Lindsey Shwartz, founder of the Powerhouse Women event) Creating Fun, Relatable, and Beautiful Content Gillean works with a virtual assistant to brainstorm, organize, and plan out her content creation and calendar. Friends, creators, and everyday life experiences inspire her content creation. She batches her videos to streamline the process of recording her videos. Planoly is her go-to tool for managing her posts and content visually before posting. Doing her best to avoid the comparison trap is a big part of staying focussed on creation. Staying Motivated and Driven (even on the day the jar of pasta sauce explodes everywhere during a shoot) Gillean is committed to showing her daughters that they can pursue their dreams, too. She has a clear idea of what her Higher Self or Future Self is like; how she thinks, how she acts, what she has, all of her accomplishments, and who she is. When Gillean can stay in tune with what she knows it will be like, she can be pulled along by that vision. Even if she doesn't have all the things and success of her Higher Self, yet, she can still embody her feelings and actions. How She Makes it ALL Happen “It's not like juggling, it's more like playing dodgeball.” “It takes a village” Her incredibly supportive husband does the girls' hair, gets them ready in the morning, and uses her WFD ‘non-recipes' to make meals. They have family that live close by that support ‘family life' and being a part of their daughters' lives. Organization and calendar management Making time for fun which is, counterintuitively, the most productive way to spend her time to promote productivity. When she is aligned with her fun and fulfillment and is high in her energy and vibration, successes come. Daily Non Negotiables Movement which can be exercise or walking her dog. It's her form of meditation. She has been making time to do a 5 minute journal every morning and night for the last 7 months. She really does it! Advice for the Struggling, Juggling, Dodging Supermom Be fully present and spend time with them (even if it's 5 minutes). It makes me feel like a great mom and allows me to be fully present in other areas of life. Instagram inspiration: “You're kid will never say that they had a bad day. Instead, they will say ‘come play with me'.” About Gillean Gillean Barkyoumb is a certified dietician that knew this was the path for her since 8th grade. After seeing the documentary Supersize Me, she not only saw that our diet not only impacts our health and physical condition, but, also, our relationships, moods and attitudes, and overall well being. As an athlete in high school, she made the connection between food and athletic performance. Gillean's early experiences stuck with her and cultivated her interest in what food does for us and how it fuels our body. She received her Master's Degree in Nutrition and went into a corporate dietician position that she loved and got a ton of experience including TV and speaking on stage. After eight years in the corporate world and the birth of her second daughter, Gillean was offered a consulting opportunity that gave her the space to take the leap into being an entrepreneurial dietician. She creates beautiful, fun, and incredibly relatable content on her growing social media platforms, offers a What's For Dinner Club membership, and is taking on brand partnerships. Enjoy the Podcast? Finding Your Sexy with Kelcy Valletta For years, the messaging around self-love has often been tied to selfishness and self-importance. Even the words ‘putting yourself first' can hit in a way that feels selfish or hard to truly embrace. Though we know somewhere deep down that self-love is fundamental and impacts our relationships, career, and how we walk in the world, we often default to the needs and expectations of others. We could all use a little help with honoring ourselves and our bodies and not disregard our well-being and happiness to please others. Kelcy Valletta's mission is to help women love who they are, the body they are in, and practice self-love so that they can own their confidence and sexiness in their own skin. Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Hear Kelcy's journey from the all too familiar struggles of early teenage disordered eating and body image challenges to finding, choosing, and knowing herself. Be inspired by Kelcy's passion for helping women be their authentic selves and find practices to keep caring for their relationship with self. Kelcy shares her ‘past life' as a film student, film maker, and actor living in LA before she became a certified self-love coach… you'll NEVER guess what her all time favorite movie is! First Lesson in Self-Love Like too many teenage girls, Kelcy found herself struggling through an eating disorder at 13. It took years and years to fully heal. It was during a time when people weren't talking about self-love or mental health, nor did we see different body types like we do today. Her motivation was eating healthy food, but as a teenager with little education and experience of what food actually does to our body and what our different bodies need, it became a fixation that had the opposite effect. In her recovery, Kelcy realized the importance of our relationships to our bodies. The True Power of Self-Love Kelcy continued to heal in her relationship with her body but later found herself in an emotionally abusive and toxic relationship. In the relationship, Kelcy was made to feel like she could not express herself freely. Near the end of the relationship it physically manifested in her jaw locking and she realized the toxicity and abuse of the relationship. A sudden feeling of empowerment and thought that she could no longer let him make her feel unworthy or like she was not enough. She held onto that thought, began choosing herself, and rebuilt herself. “I will never again compromise any part of who I am because I'm awesome. I have so much to offer and I need to be strong in that.” Tips for Successful Self-Love Knowing you are worthy of self-love. Easy to say but often hard for women to embody, especially moms. Giving ourselves time, money, attention, and energy feels selfish. Determine our love language for receiving love and practice it on ourselves. If we feel loved when given quality time, prioritize alone time and activities. If we feel loved when given words of affirmations, affirm ourselves. Learn how to set boundaries and get comfortable saying no. Common Blocks to Self-Love Believing it's selfish to have and practice self-love. Comparison to others or the appearance or life circumstances of our younger selves. Social media makes this difficult as people share their highlight reels and beautify with filters. Lessons and Outcomes of a 21 Day Self-Love Challenge Inspired by the idea that it takes twenty-one days to form a habit, at the beginning of 2021, Kelcy created the 21 Day Self-Love Challenge. It was eye opening to see and experience that there are an infinite amount of ways to practice self-love. Love of Podcasting Kelcy hosts the Find Your Sexy Podcast. Though she was terrified to invite women at first, now she gets so excited and loves to have the connections, friendships, and important conversations she gets to have weekly. She always feels honored that women would share their stories with her. Kelcy shares important topics and education In solo episodes. But, by far, Kelcy loves her conversations and interviews with women the most. Daily Non Negotiables Kelcy does not compromise her full 8 hours of sleep. If she does, it negatively affects her whole next day. . Currently, her irregular schedule between her full time job and Find Your Sexy, challenges her in prioritizing working out, but she's working on it. Eating her meals. Kelcy can be found eating all day long. Spending time with her dog in the sunshine regardless of the weather. Rising From Childhood Trauma and Narcissistic Abuse with Morgan Wilde Trauma is vastly unique to every person which can feel confusing. Trauma can affect one person and send them in one direction while the same trauma can send another on a completely different path. It shows up in so many different ways for each person. What is common is that most of us reach adulthood having experienced some form of childhood trauma. Imagine the massive impact and benefits for individuals and their connected relationships if we could normalize the idea of working on our childhood trauma as we enter adulthood. It would drastically change the face and direction of humanity. Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Learn about the characteristics and traits that may signal childhood trauma. Hear expert advice on how to navigate unavoidable narcissistic relationships with narcissists like co-parenting. Be inspired by Morgan's recovery journey as a survivor of trauma and narcissistic abuse. Resources: My first book, Relationship Ready: How I Stopped Fucking Randos and Started Cupcaking My Soulmate, is available on Amazon and Audible. Grab your copy now! Connect with Morgan on Instagram | Facebook Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACA) Yellow Book: The Complete ACAoA Sourcebook: Adult Children of Alcoholics at Home, at Work, and in Love, by, Janet Geringer Woititz Struggle for Intimacy (Adult Children of Alcoholics series), by Janet Geringer Woititz Episode Highlights: Trauma Origins Morgan was born into a family riddled with trauma, addiction, dysfunction, and narcissistic abuse. The first phase of her trauma was shaped by her alcoholic addict narcissistic mother and her father who was a Vietnam veteran. Both her parents were children of alcoholics with deep wounds and they continued the trauma patterns as parents. As a teenager, Morgan removed herself from her mother and lived with her aunt, uncle, and younger brother. There she experienced years of narcissistic abuse, neglect, and bullying from the three of them. How the Effects of Trauma Showed up in Morgan's Life Morgan always felt a deep sense of not belonging and not fitting in anywhere. Without models or support in her childhood and life, she entered adulthood feeling completely unprepared for it and relationships. A deep fear of conflict because in her childhood, conflict always led to abandonment. A constant state of walking on eggshells which led to people pleasing and hyper awareness of the feelings of all people around her. Avoiding eye contact when in conflict, challenging conversations, or when people were upset. How to Get Curious About Our Childhood Trauma Get curious without judgment and with an open mind and heart. There may be things that are hard to accept but don't make it about judging ourselves or taking on more than what it is. Remain in curiosity and compassion rather than judgement. Dive into education through books, podcasts, Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACoA), Facebook groups, etc. Be willing to step out of our comfort zone and challenge old stories and patterns that came from our family. Find support!!! We are not alone in these experiences and we don't have to process or heal alone, either. There are childhood trauma survivor groups and communities, coaches, and therapists. If working with a coach or therapist, make certain they are trauma informed and go through a trial period. For most survivors, this may be their first healthy and supported relationship which creates a model for healthy relationships moving forward. Rising Out of Her Trauma Morgan moved to the West Coast and began to see herself outside of her family. She started her own recovery work with Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACoA) where she first felt that her story was not the only one. Hearing other people's stories and reading the literature describing her characteristics and traits made the feeling of being alone and not belonging, go away. Morgan began to feel the emotional, physical, and spiritual toll that preparing for a phone call or visit with family took on her. It would take months to recover from a visit and take her dozens of steps backward in her recovery. After years of ‘doing more to fix it', hundreds of back and forth choices to detach, disconnect, and trying again, Morgan made the very personal and hard choice to go completely contactless with her family. Turning Her Trauma into The Way Out for Herself and Others Morgan could have continued to live out of fear for people who were no longer in her life or ground into her purpose and worthiness. Her healing and work with others allows her to express her authentic self. Starting out as a health coach opened the door for her to the importance and effectiveness of self-care. While helping people she is always working on her healing and growth. It keeps herself accountable to herself and her clients Morgan reminds us that we were hurt in relationships and that is where we developed our trauma wounds. Regardless of the work we do, we won't know how far we've come unless we experience relationship again. The idea that “I'll get into a relationship once I'm healed” doesn't work because that's where all our triggers come from. Daily Non Negotiables Morgan is dedicated to her work in ACA by attending meetings, connecting with the community, and doing her daily readings. Her ACA work keeps her life sane and moving in the right direction away from fears of abandonment, old patterns, and toxic relationships, and toward healthy, safe, and loving relationships. Being active in the relationships that support her. A few years back Morgan cut toxic relationships and behaviors out of her life and nurtured the relationships, habits and hobbies that fill her up. She attributes her success to the strength and connection of her support system that she checks in with daily. About Morgan Morgan Wilde is a childhood trauma recovery coach and a survivor of childhood trauma, family addiction, dysfunction & narcissistic abuse. Morgan helps survivors of childhood trauma and toxic family dysfunction to heal from the past, ground into the present, and feel hopeful about the future. Through deep inner healing she guides her clients to break free from unhealthy patterns and heal past wounds so that they may begin building healthy, safe, and loving relationships. In her 12 week one-on-one coaching program, Morgan has a deep awareness of the importance of a safe and comfortable space that can support the inherent discomfort of trauma work. Currently, Morgan is overseeing the construction of her tiny home in Oregon. She is living her longtime childhood dream of freedom, travel, and adventure in her vanlife. Her soon-to-be new tiny home will offer the part of her that longs for a homebase and community to come back to and take breaks. Enjoy the Podcast? Unstoppable Mompreneurs with Jennifer Jakobsen As moms, we can put everything and everyone else in front of our needs. There is just so much to do all of the time. Our children and partners, our businesses, and everything the household needs, need our attention and energy at every given moment. Most of the time we get it all done; somehow and we find a way. We also feel the stress, guilt, overwhelm, and heaven forbid, we get burnt out. Jennifer Jakobsen shares her approach to finding success, balance, peace, and even fun in business and life. She reveals her successful mindsets and practices that fill us up so we can show up in all areas stronger, more centered and creative, and with more energy and joy to share. Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Hear Jennifer's journey from a mental health professional to focussing her skills and passion in becoming a mom and successful entrepreneur. Be inspired by how Jennifer made choices along the way that were true to her vision for her life and career. Discover how the mindsets and practices that seem counterintuitive to getting it all done, actually bring us more energy, creativity, and joy. She received her degree in clinical social work in Chicago and jumped into her practice as a therapist. She and her husband moved to Phoenix, Arizona where they started their family. She became a stay at home mom and then decided she wanted to work with women in a way that felt more empowering than her therapy work. Rather than focussing on their past, she wanted to support women from where they were to moving toward their dreams. The Unique Struggles of Being a Mompreneur The ‘mom job' is 24/7, with no PTO, and is often thankless. Meanwhile, they do all the things, all the time, for everyone else. Starting or running a business has so many moving parts that are thrown into the mix with everything else. The comparison traps: comparing with who I was before I was a mom, comparing with other moms, comparing with other entrepreneurs. Being a mompreneur has its own unique struggles for which there is little support. Finding the courage to ask for help and support is just as much of a challenge as finding the support and help. The Mom-centered Approach It seems counterintuitive to put yourself first when there are so many other things and people to take care of. We often feel guilt for putting our needs before the needs of our children and business. Jennifer shares that the magic in putting ourselves at the top of our priority list is that we always come back better and everything around us benefits. We bring our fuller selves to our relationships, children, and businesses. We have more confidence and trust in ourselves when we show ourselves that we choose to take care of ourselves. We model for our children that we don't put ourselves last, just as we wouldn't want them to put themselves last. Most Common Blocks or Challenges for the Mompreneur Guilt-- ”Who am I to take away time from our family or children?” Overwhelm-- There is always too much to do and never enough time. Confidence-- “Who am I to think I can start or run a business?” Tips to be a Successful Mompreneur: Put yourself at the top of your to-do list EVERY SINGLE DAY. Make time for relaxation and things that fill you up. DO NOT WAIVER doing something for you. Slow down instead of multitasking, juggling the needs of everyone else, and putting out fires. Tune into your thoughts. Notice negative and limiting beliefs that seem to pop up automatically when we are stressed or overwhelmed. Find someone to help you identify, process, and shift from our old and harmful thoughts. Especially, all the ‘shoulds' and expectations we have for ourselves. Understand that our success or failure starts from our thoughts and mindsets. Mindset is essential. Ask for help. Jennifer's Daily Non Negotiables Strength based exercise using an online workout.
