What are some of your “must-haves” in the new era of X-Men films which you want to see once they are introduced into the MCU? A few for me are: a more drawn out fight between Wolverine and Sabretooth where they actually get to slash each other up (which they had the perfect opportunity to do in LOGAN, but missed out by not bringing back Leiv Schreiber); Rogue somehow getting her flight and super-strength powers; and for them to plant the seeds of the larger mythology with Cyclops and Jean, where their offspring (Cable) would become the one who can truly defeat Apocalypse in the future. This involves a lot of players including Mr. Sinister, Stryfe, Apocalypse, and should be a long-game plan. Personally, I would hope to see them build up to an adaptation of the X-Cutioner's Song Saga, and play up the mystery that Stryfe is a clone of Cable. Although most important I supposed would to see the X-Men working together as a TEAM. What are your thoughts?8:58 Kerry VanderbergWhat do you think are the missed opportunities for Spider-man from the Amazing Spider-Man films? Personally I didn't like either film, and the only thing that I was excited for before ASM 2 came out was Shailene Woodley's casting as Mary Jane. Personally I thought she was pitch-perfect casting, as I would see her in interviews (particularly one with Conan O'Brien), and I thought her natural personality in that interview matched MJ perfectly. So I was bummed when she was cut out, but I doubt her appearance would have made much of a difference for that film anyways. In any case, that is one where if there was a way to de-age Shailene Woodley to match Tom Holland's age, I would prefer to see her cast as Mary Jane in current era of Spider-man, but I doubt that will happen either. What did you think about Shailene Woodley's casting at the time, and what do you think were the missed opportunities with that version of Spider-man (other than ASM 2 simply not being a good movie)?15:19 Kerry VanderbergWhat types of movies do you go to when you have finished an MCU/superhero movie marathon or re-watch? Past and future collide in "The Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix" written by Scott Lobdell and illustrated by Gene Ha. Just as their honeymoon is about to kick off, Jean Grey and Scott Summers are propelled 2,000 years into the future so that they can raise their techno-virus poisoned son, Nathan Christopher Charles Summers a.k.a. Baby Cable! As if that wasn't hard enough, the newlyweds must also contend with Apocalypse and Stryfe, Cable's bratty, evil decoy clone. In 2007, a three-part saga meant to reset and redefine the X-Universe in the wake of "House of M" and Scarlet Witch's "no more mutants" declaration was kicked off with "X-Men: Messiah Complex." But, hey, we already talked about that (see Episode #79). This time, we turn our attention to the second chapter of the trilogy, the 2009 Cable & X-Force crossover event, "Messiah War." This story sees Cable and a young Hope Summers (the first mutant born after "House of M," as introduced in "Messiah Complex") jumping through time, on the run from a now villainous(?) Lucas Bishop, who is intent on murdering Hope to prevent an apocalyptic future he believes she will bring about. Joined by both Deadpool and X-Force, the secret black ops X-team recently commissioned by Cyclops to permanently eliminate threats to mutants, Cable and Hope will have to battle not only Bishop, but also classic X-villains Stryfe and Apocalypse. Does this second chapter live up to the first, and is it still - years later - an essential read for X-fans? But first, in another installment of "Mutant Match-Up," two lesser known x-women are pitted against each other in physical combat. With Deadpool 2 hitting theaters this weekend we've finally recorded our Character Corner episode on Nathaniel Christopher Charles Summers, aka, Cable. Now first off, we've touched on a lot of the early years with Nathan/Cable already in some previous Character Corners. We cover Nathan's birth and being sent to the future in the Cyclops & Alex episode as well as him being genetically created specifically to be a weapon against Apocalypse in our Apocalypse & Mister Sinister episode. Now Cable wasn't originally created to be the grown up, future Nathan Summers. Originally Louise Simonson and Rob Liefeld created him to just be a military leader who was the complete opposite of Professor X and would lead the young New Mutants. Things changed rather quickly as the character became more popular and soon it was revealed he was not only Nathan Summers but his clone was Stryfe who founded the Mutant Liberation Front.
