Our episode is a little longer today because it is a bit of a hybrid thanks to a live audience show I did the night before. I use the first 45-50 minutes to bring my normal show to you but then transition to a replay of the live event hosted by Americans for Prosperity in NW Georgia. To start, there is great news of a cease fire with the Houthis and a re-opening of the Red Sea shipping lanes. We now have word the owner of the vehicle that was stopped by the Tennessee Highway Patrol with Kilmar Abrego Garcia driving and filled with people, says he paid Garcia several times to run people into the country from the border. Next, we go to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's testimony on the Hill yesterday. To illustrate the level of intellect inherent to the Democrat Party today, we turn to Rep. Nydia Velazquez (D-NY). Then, for the added cherry on top, we turn to mad Maxine Waters (D-CA) regarding DOGE. This leads to a short segment on why DOGE needs to continue working daily to find and root out the fraud, waste, abuse and corruption. Then we shift to the live show from Tuesday, May 06, 2025 at AFP. We start with a short conversation with Jeff Thompson of AFP before turning to Tony West. West joined AFP in Georgia in 2015. He has served in various roles before being elevated to State Director in October of 2023. Prior to joining AFP, he spent three years as an analyst in the Governor's Office of Planning and Budget under Gov. Nathan Deal. Our keynote guest is Beverly Peyton, newly elected head of the GOP for Bartow County, GA. We talk a lot about her beginnings, growing up in Chicago and watching jobs and factories move away, leaving her and many of her friends on the edge of poverty. Realizing she was a critical point of turning down a bad path, she instead enlisted in the National Guard and it turned her life around and set her on a path of growth and success. She started to become more politically active in 2016 and is now a local leader in the Republican Party. After the interviews, I discuss the topic of immigration, due process and how the Legacy/mainstream media wants to take pieces of the 5th and 14th Amendments to try to make their points. I also spend some time on AI and what it will mean for everyone. We then close with a short Q&A session with the audience. Surrounded by the Chattahoochee National Forest is the former site of a brick mansion, now lying in partial ruin. Hand-built in 1977 by Dr. Charles L. Scudder, a retired professor at Loyola University in Chicago, and his partner Joseph “Joey” Odom, the mansion served as the couple's dream home until their deaths. In December of 1982, the pair were gruesomely murdered, along with their two bullmastiffs, as a result of an attempted robbery by two acquaintances, Avery Brock and Tony West. During the ensuing investigation and trial – fueled partially by a local media circus – a mythos evolved in which the victims were vilified as “evil devil worshippers,” drawing from Dr. Scudder's interest in the occult and the pair's open homosexuality. Despite having been very well-liked in the community by those who knew them, the horrendous mythos continues to this day, and many locals still refer to the area as, “Devil Worshippers' Mountain,” and claim that taking a brick from the property will lead to being cursed for life.... Despite the increased emphasis on diversity and inclusion in law firms, the legal profession remains among the least diverse of any profession today. According to the American Bar Association’s National Lawyer Population Survey, in 2007 just 4% of active attorneys identified as Black or African American. Since that time, the number has remained largely flat at around 5%, despite decades of diversity efforts and studies that diversity is good for business. Law firms say that they recognize that the ongoing lack of diversity is a problem, and they say they are committed to fixing it. But what steps are they taking and why haven’t the programs they’ve put in place been more effective? Also, what role are general counsel playing? Brought to you by justcoffee.coop TODAY'S HEADLINES: The Georgia Runoff elections are in full swing, as Republican David Perdue ditched a debate with Jon Ossoff and Kelly Loeffler floundered at her meeting with Rafael Warnock. It looks like the Republicans are going all in on attacks with Warnock, even as their own party tries to provide some level of legitimacy to the general election results. Meanwhile, Joe Biden will reportedly announce Former General and current Board Member at Raytheon Lloyd Austin as his pick for Secretary of Defense, while his advisors keep busy trying to shut out indigenous Congresswoman Deb Haaland from getting Secretary of the Interior. And lastly, some good news from Los Angeles, where a new District Attorney has immediately committed to a sweeping set of reforms including a near-total abolishment of cash bail and new investigations into police use of force cases. THESE ARE THE STORIES YOU NEED TO KNOW: By now, you know the score: Joe Biden’s ability to get basically anything done could ride on the results of two runoff Senate elections in Georgia, which go down on January 5. Reverend Raphael Warnock is running against uber-rich and uber-corrupt Senator Kelly Loeffler, while boring-boy Jon Ossoff is taking on also corrupt and certainly cowardly Senator David Perdue. The Democrats have to sweep both races if they want to even up the senate and give Kamala Harris the deciding vote on bills they want to get through. So far, the Republican strategy seems to be a version of what they ran everywhere in 2020: attack Warnock primarily as a radical leftist and hope that Ossoff goes down with him. They’re taking this strategy to the extreme: because Ossoff is such a blank slate of a candidate, the GOP doesn’t see any positives in even acknowledging him. Purdue didn’t even show up to their debate on Sunday night, figuring people would instead tune in to Loeffler and Warnock instead. Loeffler played her part, repeatedly referring to Warnock as a “radical liberal” and his past critiques of the police and military from his pulpit. Warnock, of course, has countered with the Democrats typical centrism. We’ll see how well that works, as disappointing as it is. For what it’s worth, the GOP has basically nothing else: Republican election officials have created a rift with the President and his party’s official line in recent days by certifying the general election results. We’ll be keeping an eye on how this all plays out for the next month or so. More Bad Biden Cabinet Picks Ah, feels like just yesterday we had a story about Joe Biden’s disappointing cabinet picks. Let’s check... nope, sorry it’s been almost five days. Wow. Well here’s another one. On Monday night, the New York Times reported that Biden is expected to nominate retired General Lloyd J. Austin III to be his secretary of defense. Austin would be the first black SecDef, but he certainly won’t be the first secretary who has ties to defense giant Raytheon! He’s a board member there. We really do hate to see it. Austin is well respected in the military community, and will probably go through without much protest from everyone who doesn’t see a problem with the fact that everyone who controls our active military also has incredibly close entanglements with all the private companies who make their weapons. Just business as usual there! Meanwhile, the race for Biden’s Secretary of the Interior position is looking extremely messy. Progressives have been openly pushing for Congresswoman Deb Haaland to get the nod, as she’s one of the country’s first high-profile indigenous politicians and supports a proactive climate agenda including the Green New Deal. But according to the Huffington Post, some of Biden’s advisors are pushing for another native candidate, Michael Connor, despite dozens of tribal leaders telling Biden, publicly and privately, that they back Haaland. The line they’re pushing is that Haaland is unqualified, and that Connor is a better pick because he was a deputy secretary for the department under Obama. But progressive activists suggest the insiders’ objections to Haaland may have more to do with her politics than with her preparedness for the job. As Huffington Post noted, Connor’s own tribe signed a letter urging Biden to back Haaland. We’ll see how that one shakes out in the coming days. LA's New DA Begins Reform On a brighter note, there seems to be a real push for criminal justice reform in Los Angeles County, thanks to the election of new District Attorney George Gascon. According to the LA Times, Gascon has committed to a sweeping, extensive slate of reforms on his first day in office. The first major change was an almost-complete elimination of cash bail, one of the most predatory systems in the prison pipeline in most cities. There’s some details to work out there -- cash bail will still exist until the end of the year for violent felonies, but will get phased out in 2021. The other huge changes are almost too many to list in the quickie, but we’ll try. Gascon is immediately banning prosecutors from trying children as adults, as well as ending the “sentencing enhancements” cities have used to assign more jail time for everything from gang affiliations to gun infractions and three-strikes laws. He’s also seeking to change some peoples’ sentences who were convicted under these systems to get them time off. Crucially, Gascon is also opening new investigations and re-opening old investigations into LA cops’ use of force cases, and a new use-of-force review board for police shootings and other incidents. One of the changes that might fly a bit under the radar: Gascon is also trying to institute a policy of diversion, where non-violent arrests don’t make it to actual charges, but instead try to get people help instead of locking them up, which would be a huge change for mentally ill and homeless people caught in a cycle of legal trouble. In a speech, Gascon said quote: “I recognize for many this is a new path ... whether you are a protester, a police officer or a prosecutor, I ask you to walk with me. I ask you to join me on this journey. We can break the multigenerational cycles of violence, trauma and arrest and recidivism that has led America to incarcerate more people than any other nation.” endquote. If more officials with different jurisdictions and powers get on board, he just might be right. AND NOW FOR SOME QUICKER QUICKIES: In an extremely distressing sign of where we’re headed, the investors on Wall Street are now trading futures for _water_, predicting that it will be a scarce commodity in the future like gold, oil, and other commodities. And of course, nothing has ever gone wrong with Wall Street speculating on things before. A new report by Brown University’s Costs of War project shows that Donald Trump’s incredibly destructive bombing campaign in Afghanistan increased civilian casualties by a staggering 330 percent since 2016. In 2019 alone, airstrikes killed 700 civilians, the most in a single year since the war started in 2001. One bit extremely sketchy Biden Cabinet news we skipped earlier: Maya Harris, Kamala Harris’s sister, is reportedly lobbying hard to get her husband, Tony West, the nod for Attorney General under Biden. West, you may know, is the top lawyer for Uber, one of the most openly evil companies in Silicon valley that just spent millions on pushing through an anti-labor proposition in the 2020 election. Here’s a late-breaking story you’ll definitely want to watch today: on Monday, Florida state police raided the house of Rebekah Jones, a former Department of Health employee who was unceremoniously fired for trying to keep up accurate information of the state’s COVID cases. She continued her project independently, but was violently raided at gunpoint on Monday. Welcome to California District One Media. I’m Tony West. This is your weekly watchdog news report on your District One elected officials in Congress. Here’s the latest. Last time we reported on The Healthy California Act, or SB 562, a popular and serious contender for a viable affordable healthcare system covering all Californians. It’s cleared the State Senate, and has been under review by the Assembly. SB 562 creates a trust fund for all healthcare funding under a Single Payer system, with everyone in one payment plan; patients, doctors, and hospitals. One payment network where everyone is covered, where no one is without coverage, where treatment is available to everyone. With the repeal of the Affordable Care Act looming on a national scale, the reality of millions of Californians having their Medicare stripped away has made SB 562 a popular bill with the public across party lines. This week, the bill faced a striking blow, which threatens to kill the bill in the Assembly all together. California Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon announced that he would “hold” the bill in the Rules Committee, effectively killing the bill for at least the rest of 2017. While state democrats hold the super majority in Sacramento, it’s baffling that Speaker Rendon would vote against a bill that is a part of his own party’s platform. But it should be reported that Anthony Rendon has accepted nearly a quarter of a million dollars in campaign contributions from the health and insurance sectors. This calls into question his motivations on singlehandedly stopping the measure in it’s tracks. Our own District One Assemblyman, Brian Dahle, has been quoting false claims the bill will cost the state $400 billion and businesses will pay a 15 percent payroll tax. In fact, the University of Massachusetts states that single payer health care will cost $331 billion, a cost savings over the $385 billion Californian’s currently pay for healthcare every year. Small businesses making under $2 million a year won’t even be affected. Healthcare advocates and citizen lobbyists are calling on all Californian’s to contact their State Assembly representatives and tell them you want the bill to go to the Floor for a vote. A recent Gallup poll shows Donald Trump’s approval rating of his first 100 days in office at a record low of only thirty-seven percent, an approval rating lower than any president in modern U.S. history. On Wednesday, Senator Feinstein demanded the Senate Judiciary Committee hold hearings to assess President Trump's decision to fire FBI Director James Comey. Both Senators Harris and Feinstein continue to call for an independent counsel. But despite the endless investigations and controversy involving the new president, FiveThirtyEight.com rates Congressman Doug LaMalfa’s “TrumpScore” a one hundred percent voting match inline with the Trump administration. This week, LaMalfa voted for a spending increase of one hundred and twenty MILLION dollars to protect the Trump family’s travels around the world. After only one hundred and twenty-two days in office, the president has spent a record twenty-five percent of his time visiting Trump properties at a cost to the taxpayers of $3 million dollars per trip. LaMalfa’s vote allows the President to continue his weekly weekend golf trips to Trump properties, the first lady’s continued residency at Trump Tower, and the Trump son’s business travels worldwide.

District One is California’s largest congressional district which includes Butte, Lassen, Modoc, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, and Tehama counties plus portions of Glenn, Nevada, and Placer counties. District One has been gerrymandered and is considered a GOP ‘safe’ district. The redrawing of the district into a more balanced electorate is not up for redistricting for three more years. At the top of this week’s news, Congress approved a disastrous repeal of the Affordable Care Act. There are over one hundred thousand rural District One residents enrolled in Obamacare, and over two hundred eighty thousand of them with pre-existing conditions. LaMalfa’s constituents came out in force to demand a NO vote and his protection of their healthcare. Ignoring their outcry, Doug LaMalfa voted YES on the ACA repeal. This repeal rolls back consumer protections and allows insurance companies to consider your health status when determining how much to charge you. One in three Americans get their insurance because of the pre existing condition clause. LaMalfa just voted to eliminate it.
