A new film about her life, which stars Kate Winslet, focuses on the period in her life when she defied convention to become a war photographer, travelling to the front lines. The film's director Ellen Kuras explains how they captured Lee Miller's adventurous spirit.Last night saw the first - and so far, only scheduled - televised presidential debate in the USA ahead of the election in November. Kamala Harris and Donald Trump spoke for 90 minutes, each accusing the other of lying. Women's issues were on the table for debate including a heated exchange on abortion. It can get hard reporting on positive news when we have a Government in place who are simply taking the piss with key-workers. People are starting to come together though and there are signs that people have had their fill of the Tories. More and more trade unions are saying Enough is Enough with their workers going on strike. But, despite this, we do have something really inspiring to report on in this episode and a chance for us to do some good - people get to a point in their lives when they want to give something back. In this podcast, we consider the Tory Government proposal to institute eight 'Charter Cities' in the UK. Charter Cities are planned to be areas which are given over to governance by a corporation which is likely to remove workers protections, ban minimum wage laws, dismantle welfare, quash restrictions on working hours and more. All this is thought to be facilitated by Brexit and the subsequent revocation of EU regulations. For its neoliberal proponents, who are universally drawn from the big oil funded right international, this is a utopia which will end world poverty. We argue the contrary, that it will be a monstrously dystopian  anti-democratic nightmare in which workers will be treated like disposable things and which must be stopped. UK inflation has reached its highest rate in 40 years, jumping from 7 per cent in March to 9 per cent in the year to April. With inflation hitting the poorest hardest, pressure is growing on the government to reverse its opposition to a windfall tax on energy profits. We know black history is important every day - but for those who wish to control us, 'Black History Month' happens every October and last year I had the privilege of speaking to race equality activist Taranjit Chana. This year I was delighted to invite Tyehimba Nosakhere, another prominent race equality activist, to give a 'truth-speaker' masterclass around black history. We must never underestimate how the collective failure to bring proper history - not misstory as Tye calls it, detrimentally impacts all children growing up. For black children it is a denial of the truth and an opportunity to stand proud in classrooms. The collective failure to look through the lens of truth on history also undoubtedly fuels the inequality that exists in society today. He argues that government policy will increase not reduce immigration. Indeed, rather than enabling British jobs for British people post Brexit, government policy has opened up the UK job market to 600 million people globally. In the past 20 years the foreign born population of the UK has doubled to 9 million. Net immigration of 300,000 per year already poses huge problems for integration, problems that will become worse over time -- and highly damaging to society and the nation.
