Na het statement van de prins kwamen er berichten van de taxichauffeur en de politie die de achtervolging nuanceerden. Renzo Veenstra: “Af en toe druk je als journalist misschien iets sneller op de publiceer knop dan dat je zou willen.” Nam de media te snel het initiële bericht van de woordvoerder van Harry en Meghan over? De BBC is gestart met BBC 'Verify' dat zich vooral gaat bezighouden met de bestrijding van desinformatie en het vergroten van vertrouwen onder het publiek. Dinsdagavond organiseerde de NOS een publieksavond ‘NOS bij jou' om in gesprek te gaan met kijkers en luisteraars. Margriet Brandsma: “Wat de BBC nu doet vind ik wel getuigen dat ze het heel serieus gaan nemen en de geloofwaardigheid van de journalistiek enorm vergroot.”  Zijn dit soort initiatieven soms krampachtig of moet er alles gedaan worden om het publiek toch op een bepaalde manier meer inzicht te geven in journalistieke besluiten?

Een dramatische avond in De Kuip. Met de bekerfinale van vorig jaar meegeteld was het de vijfde keer op rij dat Ajax van PSV verloor. Vooraf werd de wedstrijd onder Ajacieden al ‘operatie gifbeker' genoemd, het bleek pijnlijk treffend. In Branie likt inval-presentator Josien Wolthuizen de wonden met Paroolverslaggever Dick Sintenie en Bart Veenstra, hoofdredacteur van Ajax Showtime. Niet alleen het hemeltergend slechte spel is onderwerp van gesprek, ook het kinderachtig gedrag van zo'n beetje alle spelers op het veld komt aan bod. Klagen en zuigen; de Ajacieden waren daar drukker mee dan met voetballen. Veenstra heeft er geen goed woord voor over: “Er kijken allemaal jonge kinderen naar deze finale, die zien de spelers van Ajax dit opgefokte gedrag vertonen. Dank denk ik: waar ben je mee bezig? Ze moeten het goede voorbeeld geven.” Ook trainer John Heitinga, wiens toekomst gevoelsmatig toch enigszins van deze wedstrijd afhing, komt aan bod. Is hij volgend seizoen nog hoofdtrainer van Ajax? Sintenie denkt van niet. Wat hij beter had moeten doen? Sintenie: “Hij had moeten zeggen: ik doe het niet.” En dan nog AZ-thuis, komt weekend. Hoewel het seizoen voor de supporters al als verloren voelt, staat er nog een hoop op het spel. Ajax kán nog tweede worden, maar als er zondag niet wordt gewonnen, ligt de vierde plek ook gewoon op de loer. “Ongelooflijk,” verzucht Wolthuizen. “Normaal waren we als supporters nu vooral druk met bedenken welke wedstrijd de kampioenswedstrijd zou worden en waar we die zouden gaan kijken. Nu hebben we het over een vierde plek.” Kortom, er is genoeg te bespreken in deze aflevering van Branie. Abstract: The neuropeptide Pigment-Dispersing Factor (PDF) plays a pivotal role in the circadian clock of most Ecdysozoa and is additionally involved in the timing of seasonal responses of several photoperiodic species. The pea aphid, Acyrthosiphon pisum, is a paradigmatic photoperiodic species with an annual life cycle tightly coupled to the seasonal changes in day length. Nevertheless, PDF could not be identified in A. pisum so far. In the present study, we identified a PDF-coding gene that has undergone significant changes in the otherwise highly conserved insect C-terminal amino acid sequence. A newly generated aphid-specific PDF antibody stained four neurons in each hemisphere of the aphid brain that co-express the clock protein Period and have projections to the pars lateralis that are highly plastic and change their appearance in a daily and seasonal manner, resembling those of the fruit fly PDF neurons. Most intriguingly, the PDF terminals overlap with dendrites of the insulin-like peptide (ILP) positive neurosecretory cells in the pars intercerebralis and with putative terminals of Cryptochrome (CRY) positive clock neurons. Since ILP has been previously shown to be crucial for seasonal adaptations and CRY might serve as a circadian photoreceptor vital for measuring day length, our results suggest that PDF plays a critical role in aphid seasonal timing. Volgens kenniscentrum Rutgers wordt er nepnieuws verspreid over de inhoud. Is het gek dat ouders bezorgd zijn over de inhoud? Sluiter: "Het wordt uit de context gehaald en dan komt de schrille discussie" (6:14) In het Mediamoment van Römer wil hij een monumentje oprichten voor het programma Taarten van Abel. 'Abel' gaat stoppen, en Römer vindt het tijd om te stoppen: "Ga geen andere bakker zoeken, mooier dan dit wordt het niet". Wat vindt Römer er zo goed aan? (11:04) Het bestuur van Meldpunt MORES heeft besloten op te treden. Er komt een nieuw bestuur want het imago is te erg aangetast. Valt dat te begrijpen? Sluiter vindt het sneu voor het bestuur... (15:58) Ondertussen houdt TikTok de gemoederen flink bezig. Rijksambtenaren mogen het niet meer op hun telefoon hebben. Dit geldt ook voor de BBC. Spraakmakers ging rondbellen en bij geen enkele mediaorganisatie is er sprake van of is van plan om medewerkers zo'n verbod op te leggen. Hoe verklaren Römer en Veenstra dat voor hun mediaorganisatie? Is men naïef of is er onnodige ophef (23:15) Dan nog even dit: Begin dit jaar ontving André van Duin een brief waarin hij vals werd beschuldigd door een man die hem dwong een groot geldbedrag te betalen. Zes weken later kan Van Duin het verhaal achter zich laten. De man die Duin chanteerde heeft daarvoor uitgebreid spijt betuigd. Hoe heeft Van Duin hierop geacteerd? En deed hij dat goed?

Veenstra vroeg zich af, omdat er maarliefst 14 advertenties met felicitaties in Broadcast magazine stonden, of hij zichzelf kan blijven in het ‘karakter bedervende Hilversum'.  Juicevlogger Yvonne Coldeweijer moet van de rechter een video over Rachel Hazes verwijderen. Ook mag ze de weduwe Hazes geen gecremeerde kroket meer noemen. Rachel krijgt dus gelijk, maar wint ze hiermee ook? De enorme aandacht voor de crisis in Oekraine laat bijna geen ruimte over om te berichten over andere conflicten in de wereld. Daarover bericht NRC vandaag. Hulporganisatie Save the children liet mediamonitor Meltwater 4,3 miljoen artikelen analyseren in de 13 meest voorkomende talen.  Daaruit bleek dat Oekraïne 5 keer meer media-aandacht kreeg dan 10 andere landen in crisis bij elkaar opgeteld. Veenstra vindt dit niet meer dan logisch.

Dat heeft gevolgen voor Talpa. Hoe relevant is de FM-frequentie nog? Volgens Veenstra luistert het gros nog niet via DAB+.  Ties Brock verlaat Israël en de Palestijnse gebieden als correspondent voor de NOS. Dat is het Mediamoment van Jan-Kees Emmer. En in hoeverre moet je verantwoording en openheid geven over je mediaproducties? Veenstra: "Het kan in Hilversum hier en daar ook nog wel een stukje goedkoper" Het genootschap van hoofdredacteuren is bezorgd over de steeds harder toon op sociale media. Aanleiding is hoofdredactioneel commentaar van Paul Jansen over pers die andere journalisten zwart maken. Wordt dit herkend? Vallen we elkaar te veel aan? Emmer vindt journalisten een bepaalde verantwoordelijkheid dragen Emmer: "Inhoudelijk mag het heel hard zijn, maar op de man spelen gaat te ver"

In the first part of our interview, Andrea and I discuss the complex issue regarding the definition of 'magic' within the Western historical study of esotericism and/or religion, and how we could perhaps see 'magic' as a meta-category containing 'family resemblances' or 'patterns of magicity' that allow for comparisons of different magical practices or attitudes. We also talk about the differences between the etic and emic perspectives of the term 'magic', as grimoires are concerned with the magicians' views and ideas about the rituals they perform and the significance these rituals hold.  We then delve into the topic of legitimization of ritual magical practices within the context of Christianity from the 1200s-1500s. In this time period, most magical texts were considered heretical by the Church, forcing magicians to try to legitimize the use of these manuscripts. We look in particular at the views of Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa von Nettesheim and his attempts to restore the reputation of magic as a divine art.  Our conversation then leads to different magical texts, focusing on the Liber Iuratus Honorii, or The Sworn Book of Honorius as it relates to Andrea's own research into ritual spaces. Sinds 1 september 2021 is Francesco Veenstra Rijksbouwmeester en adviseert hij gevraagd en ongevraagd over de architectuur en de stedelijke omgeving van het rijksvastgoed. Zijn voorganger was Floris Alkemade. Veenstra volgde zijn opleiding aan de Rotterdamse Academie van Bouwkunst. Het betrekken van wijkbewoners in de schoolgemeenschap. Het ondersteunen van de gemeente in de begeleiding van problemen van jeugd en gezin. Het stimuleren van de wijkeconomie en verminderen van de wijkcriminaliteit. De organisatie van de community school ligt bij het community school team, dat op basis van de vragen van leerlingen en van de school onderzoek doet, activiteiten ontwikkelt en allerlei verbindingen legt. Het concept is succesvol toegepast in Engeland en de VS, waar het bijdraagt aan een inclusiever wijkklimaat en aan gelijke kansen voor leerlingen.
