Today I’m joined by Dominic Skinner, Global Senior Artist at MAC Cosmetics and judge on BBC’s Glow Up, to discuss the journey of VIVA GLAM Lipsticks and their 25-year charitable heritage at MAC. To date, MAC have donated $500 million USD to organisations around the world in support of people living with HIV and/or AIDS. Recently, they announced that they have expanded the beneficiaries of the VIVA GLAM campaign to include Planned Parenthood, GLAAD in support of LGBTQ+ rights and Girls Inc. The full recommended retail price (RRP) (less VAT) of VIVA GLAM Lipstick is donated to organisations that support the health and rights of people of All Ages, All Races and All Genders. MAC also make grants to non-profit organisations they believe can make a meaningful impact on health, rights and equality. Dominic and I have known each other for many years and in the excitement of catching up we may have expressed this a little differently! When I talk about proceeds from the lipstick, and Dominic talks about every single penny going to the charity, this is what we really mean. Here are a few of the things we discuss in this week’s show that you may want to take a look at… Dominic’s Instagram page: www.instagram.com/dominic_muaMAC Cosmetics: http://maccosmetics.co.ukVIVA GLAM: https://www.maccosmetics.co.uk/viva-glamJameela Jamil: www.instagram.com/jameelajamilofficialI Weigh: www.instagram.com/i_weigh See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Due to improved treatments, the number of annual HIV infections in the U.S. declined steadily for years until about 2013, but the latest statistics at HIV.gov show no improvement since. About 39,000 people annually are infected. One of the leading players in the fight to eradicate AIDS has been the M·A·C AIDS Fund, which recently rebranded as the M·A·C Viva Glam Fund, redoubling its efforts to fight AIDS by focusing more on LGBTQ equality. Over the past 25 years, the fund has raised and spent over $500 million. All the money comes from the sale of Viva Glam lipstick products where 100% of proceeds go directly to the fund to fight HIV/AIDS. Nancy Mahon, Estée Lauder’s senior vice president of global corporate citizenship and global executive director for the M·A·C Viva Glam Fund, explains the strategy shift—the theory of change—that motivated the rebranding. By popular demand, we sat down with legendary co-founder Frank Toskan, to hear every detail about how the mother of all beauty companies, M.A.C Cosmetics, came to be. With its unforgettable, original tagline: "All Ages, All Races, All Sexes," M.A.C was waaay ahead of its time, tapping into a culture completely foreign to the stalwart beauty brands lining store shelves when it launched in 1984. Jill and Carlene recall the M.A.C beauty products that helped form their youths (hands up if you wore Twig Lipstick!). Plus, we remind you of the brand's ultimate best-sellers like Ruby Woo Lipstick (2,900 of their made-in-Canada lipsticks are sold everyday around the world) and their epic foundations, which offered nearly 40 shades decades before Fenty Beauty came along. Then, Frank takes us way back, on coming to North America as a young immigrant, with little more than a children's suitcase and a few small trinkets inside. Beauty history buffs will want to hear the story of Frank Toskan and Frank Angelo ("Frank & Frank" as the two founders would become known) partners in life and business until Frank Angelo's passing in the 1990's. And finally, the origin story on how Frank Toskan came to compose early M.A.C prototypes using nothing more than craft store supplies in his Toronto kitchen. Plus, we got alllll the juicy celebrity moments that helped catapult M.A.C to household name status (a young Lady Gaga, Madonna and Linda Evangelista were all involved). Don't miss the rebellious acts that had department stores up in arms, like giving out condoms at beauty counters (mon dieu!) We also go deep on VIVA Glam, the unparalleled giving-back program that's earned a whopping $480M for M.A.C's AIDS Fund, including a sneak peek on an academic book on the topic (launching just in time for VIVA Glam's 25th anniversary next year). So, what's Frank Toskan up to now? We've got the scoop on his next indie startup, called Impact Kitchen, that tastes as good as it is for you. *Disclaimer: Unless otherwise stated, all products reviewed are gratis media samples submitted for editorial consideration.* Hosts: Carlene Higgins and Jill Dunn Theme song, used with permission: Cherry Bomb by Saya For any products mentioned in this episode, check out our blog: www.breakingbeautypodcast.com/blog Get social with us and let us know what you think of the episode! www.Instagram.com/breakingbeautypodcast www.Twitter.com/BreakingBtyPod Join our private Facebook group Please rate and review us in Apple Podcasts

Never miss another interview! Join Devin here: http://bit.ly/joindevin. Read the full Forbes article and watch the interview here: http://bit.ly/2Cfbnjd. Nancy Mahon, SVP of global philanthropy and corporate citizenship for The Estee Lauder Companies and global executive director for the MAC AIDS Fund, has some counsel for social entrepreneurs and other business leaders interested in impact. It begins with context. We are in “the golden age of purpose.” “We are seeing an acceleration of a trend that has been in motion for some time where consumers are voting with their dollars and they are saying yes we care that you care. We share your values and we want not only a good financial model, but great products and a place to work and a great stock to invest in, we want a sustainable business. You have to make the world a better place,” Mahon says. MAC Cosmetics, an Estée Lauder brand, has been selling Viva Glam lipstick for more than 20 years and giving every penny of the retail revenue to the MAC AIDS Fund to fight AIDS. At the end of 2017, the lifetime total raised reached $480 million with $25 million raised in 2017. Read the full Forbes article and watch the interview here: http://bit.ly/2Cfbnjd. The observation that a creative work was inspired by true events; based on a true story. This is the technical meaning. However, this week, things took on a new and unique way of this connotation. Rapper Mystikal is back behind bars, where is facing one count of first degree rape after surrendering. Mystikal, born Michael Tyler, is accused of assaulting a woman last October at a downtown casino after the “Legends of Southern Hip-Hop” concert in the city. He's being held on a $2 million dollar bond. Will they every learn?? Future inked a deal with Forever 21 and has launched a new clothing line with the big box retailer. Atlanta rap star Future has linked up with Forever 21 to launch a new streetwear line. This is a perfect example of life imitating art, great move. Fans of Missy Elliott want her hometown to ditch a monument to white supremacy and pay some respect to the rapper instead. More than 10,000 Missy Elliott fans have signed an online petition to replace a Confederate monument in Virginia with a statue to the rap star. This would be super cool if this would become a reality, GO MISSY! On this flip side of things, Donald Trump’s apparently is the preferred face of drug dealers in Germany after thousands of ecstasy pills in the shape of the Prez's head were seized by police. This is insane, LOL! Nicki Minaj’s Barbz should be happy to know that their leader has an exciting new collab on the way. The rapper is teaming up with Mac Cosmetics again for a line of lipsticks. This time instead of operating under their Viva Glam collection, however, Nicki’s getting her own line of nude lipstick and lipglass. The new shade hits stores September 21st. In sad new, comedian and Civil Rights activist Dick Gregory died last Saturday at 84. Likewise, legendary comedian, Jerry Lewis passed away Sunday at 91. R.I.P. to two of the greatest to ever do it, they will be missed! Also, special guest artist, "ARSENAL" stopped by to let us know what's up with his career. Nancy Mahon doesn't consider herself a glamour girl but she believes in the power of lipstick -- Viva Glam shades 5 and 6 in particular. Mahon is a senior vice president of MAC Cosmetics and executive director of the MAC AIDS fund which last year donated $20 million to programs in 57 countries. During a recent Wharton Leadership Lecture Mahon offered her perspective on what it takes to launch and sustain a successful corporate social responsibility program.
