The Chicago Toys And Game Fair is happeing this weekend! Visit www.ChiTag.com and use the promo code READ to save big on tickets! If you're looking for a children's book that will spark your kid's imagination and love of reading, you'll want to check out "American Stonehenge: The Adventures of Jimmy and Andrew" by Mike Goldstein. In this delightful interview, Goldstein shares the inspiration behind his new fantasy series and how he's making history and geography fun for young readers. Goldstein explains that the book follows a young boy named Jimmy and his 3,000-year-old telepathic dog, Andrew, as they embark on an adventure to a mysterious archaeological site in Washington that resembles the famous Stonehenge. But this isn't your typical history lesson - the story seamlessly blends the present-day adventure with flashbacks to Andrew's past lives in places like ancient Egypt and early England. What really sets this book apart are the stunning illustrations. Goldstein spent two years ensuring each chapter had a full-page, hand-painted illustration opposite the text, creating an immersive reading experience for families. He was adamant about this unique layout, wanting kids and parents to be able to read and explore the visuals together. Becoming a first-time children's book author wasn't easy, but Goldstein's passion for storytelling and getting kids excited about learning shines through. He even started his own publishing company to bring his vision to life. And the hard work has paid off - the book is receiving rave reviews from readers of all ages and faiths. So if you're looking to ignite your child's curiosity about history and culture, be sure to pick up a copy of "American Stonehenge." With its engaging narrative and gorgeous illustrations, this book is a must-read for any family who loves adventure, reading together, and exploring the world. Maria Antonia also joined us to celebrate her new picture book "The Christmas Elephant" is a delightful story that's sure to capture the hearts of families everywhere. Inspired by her own niece's love for elephants, the book follows a young girl named Ellie who dreams of dressing up as an elephant for her church's nativity play. But her older sister Piper, who's directing the play, isn't having it - "there were no elephants in Bethlehem!" Despite the challenges, plucky Ellie finds a way to save the day when the baby Jesus prop goes missing. Maria drew from her own experiences directing Christmas plays to bring this heartwarming tale to life, and she even included some fascinating elephant facts in the back. Whether your family celebrates the holiday or not, "The Christmas Elephant" is a charming read that celebrates the power of imagination, family, and the magic of the season.

In a programme first broadcast in November 2018, Melvyn Bragg and guests discuss the Austrian princess Maria Antonia, child bride of the future French King Louis XVI. Their marriage was an attempt to bring about a major change in the balance of power in Europe and to undermine the influence of Prussia and Great Britain, but she had no say in the matter and was the pawn of her mother, the Empress Maria Theresa. She fulfilled her allotted role of supplying an heir, but was sent to the guillotine in 1793 in the French Revolution, a few months after her husband, following years of attacks on her as a woman who, it was said, betrayed the King and as a foreigner who betrayed France to enemy powers. When not doing these wrongs, she was said to be personally bankrupting France. Her death shocked royal families throughout Europe, and she became a powerful symbol of the consequences of the Revolution. Today in 1760 in Munich, Maria Antonia Walpurgis performed the lead role in the debut of her own opera Talestri, Regina delle Amazzoni - or, Talestri, Queen of the Amazon. It was the second opera for which she composed both the music and the libretto. this time new episode by feb26th A STORY OF THREE ROYAL BEHEADINGShttp: Charles I (19 November 1600 – 30 January 1649[a]) was monarch of the three kingdoms of England, Scotland, and Ireland from 27 March 1625 until his execution in 1649. Charles was the second son of King James VI of Scotland, but after his father inherited the English throne in 1603, he moved to England, where he spent much of the rest of his life. He became heir apparent to the English, Irish and Scottish thrones on the death of his elder brother in 1612. An unsuccessful and unpopular attempt to marry him to a Spanish Habsburg princess culminated in an eight-month visit to Spain in 1623 that demonstrated the futility of the marriage negotiations. Two years later he married the Bourbon princess Henrietta Maria of France instead. Charles was reserved (he had a residual stammer), self-righteous and had a high concept of royal authority, believing in the divine right of kings. He was a good linguist and a sensitive man of refined tastes. He spent a lot on the arts, inviting the artists Van Dyck and Rubens to work in England, and buying agreat collection of paintings by Raphael and Titian (this collection was later dispersed under Cromwell) .This picture was commisioned by Charles Finally, on 22 August 1642 at Nottingham, Charles raised the Royal Standard calling for loyal subjects to support him (Oxford was to be the King's capital during the war). The Civil War, what Sir William Waller (a Parliamentary general and moderate) called 'this war without an enemy', had begun. The Battle of Edgehill in October 1642 showed that early on the fighting was even. Broadly speaking, Charles retained the north, west and south-west of the country, and Parliament had London, East Anglia and the south-east, although there were pockets of resistance everywhere, ranging from solitary garrisons to whole cities. On 20 January, Charles was charged with high treason 'against the realm of England'. Charles refused to plead, saying that he did not recognise the legality of the High Court (it had been established by a Commons purged of dissent, and without the House of Lords - nor had the Commons ever acted as a judicature). The King was sentenced to death on 27 January. Three days later, Charles was beheaded on a scaffold outside the Banqueting House in Whitehall, London. The King asked for warm clothing before his execution: 'the season is so sharp as probably may make me shake, which some observers may imagine proceeds from fear Horrible Histories: Slimy Stuarts: HHTV News: King Charles I's Execution www.youtube.com/watch?v Horrible Histories: English Civil War with Bob Hale =ZnbZE52wCRY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnbZE52wCRY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FyQnEDt7eA Anne Boleyn From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search For other people named Anne Boleyn, see Anne Boleyn (disambiguation). On July 14, 1789, 900 French workers and peasants stormed the Bastille Prison to take arms and ammunition, marking the beginning of the French Revolution. On October 6 of that year, a crowd of 10,000 gathered outside the Palace at Versailles and demanded that the king and queen be brought to Paris. At the Tuileries Palace in Paris, the always indecisive Louis XVI acted almost paralyzed, and Marie Antoinette immediately stepped into his place, meeting with advisors and ambassadors and dispatching urgent letters to other European rulers, begging them to help save France's monarchy. In January 1793, the radical new republic placed King Louis XVI on trial, convicted him of treason and condemned him to death. On January 21, 1793, he was dragged to the guillotine and executed. In October of that year, a month into the infamous and bloody Reign of Terror that claimed tens of thousands of French lives, Marie Antoinette was put on trial for treason and theft, Contents Synopsis Early Life Marriage to Louis Auguste Queen of France Death and Legacy as well as a false and disturbing charge of sexual abuse against her own son. Schloß Schönbrunn - The State Rooms and Imperial Apartments on the piano nobile
This room was used as the family dining room. Imperial family dinners followed strict court ceremonial, and the table was always festively set with gilded centrepieces decorated with flowers, fruit and sweetmeats. At official dinners French cuisine was served, but for family dinners Franz Joseph preferred traditional Viennese dishes such as schnitzel, beef goulash, boiled fillet of beef or the famous “Kaiserschmarren” (shredded sweet pancakes with raisins). In order to be able to serve the food when it was warm and freshly-made, it was transported from the wing containing the court kitchens to the imperial apartments in heated boxes and kept warm in an adjoining room in warming ovens fuelled by coal and, later on, gas. The emperor sat at the centre of the table, with the empress opposite him on the rare occasions she was present. As Elisabeth often fasted in order to preserve her slender figure she seldom attended family meals. Family dinners usually began at six o’clock in the evening and consisted of three to six courses. The dining service on the table has been loaned by the Imperial Silver Collection in the Vienna Hofburg, where a wealth of treasures in porcelain and silver is exhibited. The exhibits include the gold cutlery and condiment set of Maria Theresa as well as the personal service of Empress Elisabeth, among many other fascinating objects. www.schoenbrunn.at | Download Tour-Guide (PDF)© by Schloß Schönbrunn Kultur- und Betriebsges.m.b.H.
www.schoenbrunn.at | Download Tour-Guide (PDF)© by Schloß Schönbrunn Kultur- und Betriebsges.m.b.H.
