When you've worked in the fields of technology, restaurants, modelling and music management, where do you turn next? For Michel Lu, that meant the world of drinks. And he's on a mission to bring the diverse, rich tapestry of Asia, and the untold myriad of flavours it boasts, to consumers through a series of drinks designed to showcase just that. Michel Lu is the founder of The Orientalist Spirits. A company described as the world’s first premium pan-Asian craft spirits company. They produce a range with an award-winning collection of artisanal spirits crafted from only the best premium ingredients sourced directly and ethically from the Orient. But for this drinks business founder, Michel's story is far from conventional. And that's why this week we're taking a brief departure from the world of beer to shine the spotlight on spirits. Before entering the world of drinks, Michel was the man behind Elite Model Management’s success in Asia, where he personally managed supermodels like Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, and Claudia Schiffer. Michel also created the world’s first Asian girl band, Jungk, in collaboration with music legend Malcolm McLaren. After exiting the entertainment industry, Michel co-wrote a movie script, launched a record label, and built a mini empire in the food and beverage space. He's has also made a mark in the tech industry as the Asian director of a New York-based tech advisory and venture fund and is currently exploring the exciting opportunities presented by robotics, artificial intelligence, and other Web3 technologies. But in today's episode we're looking at his plans for The Orientalist Spirits. Later this month London will host Taste The Orient. A collaboration between London Cocktail Week founders Hannah Sharman-Cox and Siobhán Payne and The Orientalist, its a first-of-its-kind event that brings together 45 of London's leading Asian bars and restaurants. We discuss how his career to-date has led Michel up to this point, the challenges and opportunities presented by working with countless Asian ingredients and why starting a drinks business is his own way of leaving a legacy.

Send us Fan MailCan't leave too much of this one out in public, but here's a taste of the whole show! In this explosive episode, supermodel and Epstein insider Barbara Adler is back and she has stories about the Hollywood elite that will make your jaw drop — and I mean DROP — Dana and Barbara uncover ties between David Copperfield, David Blaine, and Jeffrey Epstein unlike anything you've heard before, including why David Copperfield just quietly walked away from his 25-year Las Vegas residency and what the Epstein files say about what he and Epstein may have been doing together with young models from Elite Model Management. Barbara Adler was inside this world and what she witnessed firsthand about the modeling industry's darkest figures — there was the shocking Look of the Year judge panel that included Donald Trump, David Copperfield, and sexual predator Patrick Demarchelier — will make you rethink everything. We're also getting into Paris Hilton stories from someone who was in the inner circle — the parties, the clique, the people nobody talks about including Rick Solomon, Kim Stewart, Cisco Adler, Misha Barton, and a Benicio del Toro bombshell. Then Harvey Weinstein tried the wrong move on Barbara at Bungalow 8 — and wait until you hear who showed up to rescue her and what happened on the way out the door involving Lindsay Lohan, a bag, and Page Six. We're also covering Diddy and something Barbara witnessed on a boat in St. Tropez before his show that I genuinely cannot believe and Chrissy Teigen's name showing up in the Epstein black book plus what John Legend said about her that nobody is talking about. Plus Gerald Marie the head of Elite Paris and his connection to Linda Evangelista, Carrie Otis, and a lawsuit tied directly back to Epstein — and Barbara's own agent Faith Cates at Next Model Management and what The Guardian just exposed about kickbacks and Jean-Luc Brunel owning 25% of her agency. This one goes deep and it connects dots that will genuinely shock you.TO LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE IN IT'S ENTIRETY GO HERE: https://www.patreon.com/cw/DishingDramaWithDanaWilkeySupport the showDana is on Cameo!Follow Dana: @Wilkey_Dana$25,000 Song - Apple Music$25,000 Song - SpotifyTo support the show and listen to full episodes, become a member on PatreonTo send Dana information, show requests and sponsorships reach out to our new email: dishingdramadana@gmail.comDana's YouTube Channel

What's Contemporary Now?

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 19, 2024 23:15

French photographer Robin Galiegue has carved a distinctive niche in the world of contemporary photography, captivating audiences with a refreshing vision of beauty, style, and attitude. Galiegue's early experimentation with makeup, styling, and photography laid the foundation for a career marked by raw energy and a timeless aesthetic. Seamlessly blending fashion, portraiture, and reportage, his notable projects include a recently published book and work with directional publications like Vogue Italia, Self Service, and Harper's Bazaar France, and collaborations with brands such as Saint Laurent, Isabel Marant, Tom Ford, and Hermès. In a world where he sees people molding into different personas online, Galiegue believes what is contemporary now is being oneself, in work and in life. Episode Highlights: Early ambitions: Born and raised in Lille, France, to artistic-minded parents, Robin Galiegue always had ambitions to move to a bigger city and first felt drawn to images and fashion at 14 in directing a photo shoot with his sister.  The big move: Dropping out of school at 16, Galiegue attended photography school in Paris, deciding over the course of five days.  Without reference: Coming to school with zero cultural exposure to photography, Galiegue gained technical expertise and was driven to work, though he knew little English and was not assisting.  Nerves: Even as a big name in the industry today, Galiegue is nervous about approaching collaborations, such as with legendary model Linda Evangelista. Hard to sit still: Being in Paris—or in large, bustling cities—incites Galiegue's desire to work rather than relax; he sees them as villages that offer bursts of energy. “Shooting has to be fun”: Known in the industry as a kind presence, Galiegue has an intuitive understanding of when to be firm and when to prioritize kindness.  Merging visions: Galiegue enjoys working with brands, stylists, and collaborators with strong voices to make something exciting and new.  Finding inspiration and peace: Traveling, meeting new people, having friends not in the fashion industry, and discovering new cultures keep Galiegue engaged in his creative work after hours.  What's contemporary now: Galiegue sees so many people playing roles on social media, so what's contemporary or necessary now is being yourself.  Fear of AI: Galiegue is not interested in AI and is more scared of its potential to replace collaborators and artists.

164: Omid Scobie's Endgame is excellent

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 6:00 We'll have episodes out for the next two weeks and we'll be off for two or more weeks for the holidays. Last week I named the podcast #162 when it was actually #163. I watched the documentaries The Bleeding Edge on Netflix about the medical device industry and Love Has Won: The Cult of Mother God on HBO. Chandra recommends Fair Play on Netflix and she loves the second season of The Gilded Age. Royals: Minutes 6:00 to 28:15 Chandra tweeted last Saturday that she had signed an NDA to read Omid Scobie's Endgame and that Scobie lays out how “none of the left-behind Windsors can manage their way out of a paper bag.” The Telegraph ran a story on that claiming that Omid was sending his book to “Sussex Squad influencers.” We're floored by how good and thorough Endgame is and by Scobie's pithy cutting observations. It's an excellent book, well written and entertaining. It's a great read for both royal followers and for people with a casual interest. Endgame has so much more of Scobie's voice than Finding Freedom and it's so impressive. The British media is mischaracterizing Scobie's book and focusing on the wrong things. They called him misogynistic for mildly criticizing Kate's worth ethic. One of the big stories out of Endgame is that Meghan mentioned two names of royal racists who inquired about her baby's skin color when she was corresponding with King Charles after the Oprah interview. If you read the transcript of the Oprah interview, it's clear that there were “several conversations” about it, both when Harry first started dating Meghan and again when she was pregnant with Archie. We first heard about Meghan's correspondence with Charles earlier this year. Chandra thinks that this was leaked by Buckingham Palace as a way to explain why Meghan didn't go to the Coronation. Scobie was careful and didn't name the royal racists in Endgame, however the Dutch translation of the book named Charles. Scobie said in an interview that Fleet Street journalists were aware of the names of the two royal racists for some time. He has said it's not true that his book had the names in it. Piers Morgan claimed that Kate was named in that inaccurate translation too. William's press secretary Christian Jones bargained with renowned blackmailer and abuser Don Wootton to bury the story about William's affair with Rose Hanbury in exchange for negative stories about the Sussexes. Wootton is the one who published the details about the Sussexit in early 2020. When Harry tried to call out Jones for leaking details to Wootton the firm protected Jones over Harry. We heard about this in the Byline Times report in late October and Scobie has more details and a timeline. Jones leaked the news about the Sussexit as the statement was being written. Harry was threatened in 2020 by The Lord Chamberlain, the most senior officer in the royal household, who said Harry would face severe consequences if he didn't back down. Harry's security and financial support was later withdrawn although we wonder about the timeline. Piers Morgan also wrote in his column in The Sun that “Harry would do well to heed the warning of Dionysius the Tyrant who was left a broken man by his constant warmongering and got finally bumped off by his own fed-up family.” He's basically threatening that Harry will be murdered! Piers is close with Camilla. Morgan also mentioned Samantha Markle in that column, and we think he's behind her lawsuit against Meghan. Comments of the Week: Minutes 28:15 to end Chandra's comment of the week is from Crowhood on the post about Linda Evangelista not wanting to hear a man breathing. My comment of the week is from Concern Fae on Rosie's post where Jennifer Garner was showing what's in her backpack. Thanks for listening bitches!

Supermodel Linda Evangelista was feeling insecure about her body. Her thighs weren't quite as slim as they used to be. Her jawline wasn't quite as hard. A new cosmetic procedure called CoolSculpting seemed like the answer to her problems. The procedure was marketed as a non-invasive method for shrinking areas of stubborn fat. So imagine Linda's surprise when the areas where she received CoolSculpting began to grow. Then Brandi tells us about Michele Harris, a mother of four who went missing on September 11, 2001. In the months leading up to her disappearance, Michele and her husband Cal were in the middle of a contentious divorce. She'd begun dating other men. She got a part-time job. When she went missing, people suspected that Cal was to blame. And now for a note about our process. For each episode, Kristin reads a bunch of articles, then spits them back out in her very limited vocabulary. Brandi copies and pastes from the best sources on the web. And sometimes Wikipedia. (No shade, Wikipedia. We love you.) We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the real experts who covered these cases. In this episode, Kristin pulled from: “Linda Evangelista is the latest to go to war against this fat-freezing company,” by Andrea Marks for Rolling Stone  “Back in bloom: The rebirth of the indomitable Linda Evangelista,” by Sarah Harris for British Vogue  “Linda Evangelista shares first photos of her body since fat-freezing nightmare: I'm done hiding,” by Jason Sheeler for People.com “Linda Evangelista says she ‘looks forward to the next chapter' after CoolSculpting lawsuit settles,” by Arielle Weg for Prevention “What to know about CoolSculpting,” by Rachel Ann Tee-Melegrito for Medical News Today “Linda Evangelista covers British Vogue after CoolSculpting procedure: ‘Miss my work so much,” by Edward Segarra for USA Today In this episode, Brandi pulled from: “A Time To Kill” episode 48 Hours “Disappearance of Michele Anne Harris” wikipedia.org “9/11 horror limited investigation into upstate N.Y. mom's disappearance”by David Krajicek, New York Daily News “Michele Anne Harris” charleyproject.org “Cal Harris Says Acquittal After 4th Murder Trial Was 'Total Relief,' How He and Kids Are Moving Forward” by Matt Gutman, Marc Dorian, Mike Repplier, and Lauren Effron, ABC News YOU'RE STILL READING?
