You may (or may not) be aware but there are no glossie black cockatoo homelands in Western Australia AND there are no glossies on public display either. So what do West Aussies do when they want to see a glossie?? Well a group of youth we found out in a suburb of Perth have created an art exhibition all about them! It's quite amazing, and humans from all over Australia have chipped in to make this a fabulous experience - from donating their pet glossies feathers so West Australians can feel and touch a glossy feather, to permitting people to use their photos of glossies to model their art upon, to providing virtual messages of support. It's a fabulous, small exhibition out at Ellenbrook Arts at 34 Main Street ELLENBROOK. Running until the 10th December 2022. Be sure to check the opening hours before you head out there!
When it comes to tipping, one Australian state outshines the others for generosity. Tasmanians take the crown for being Australia's most generous tippers, while NSW folk are the least generous, while Western Australians are the second-most generous state, leaving on average $20, above the national mean of $16.06. Zeller director of growth Josh McNicol told 6PR Breakfast stand-in hosts Julie-anne Sprague and Mark Gibson while there were no definitive reasons some states tended to tip more, tip values were likely linked to hospitality culture and customer service. "You think back five years ago, Australia didn't really have a tipping culture," he said.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The TGA has approved Pfizer to now submit their application to register its Covid vaccine for kids 6 months to 5 years. Meanwhile the free flu jab program was announced to be extended for a month with only about 30% of West Aussies vaccinated. Infectious disease and vaccine expert from Sydney University, Professor Robert Booy told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live that young children will have a massive benefit being vaccinated for both Covid and influenza. "Influenza is more of a risk for children under 5. We have a vaccine that is safe, effective and free. It is definitely worth having for children with medical issues," Professor Booy said. "Because of the fact that we shut our boarders and had social distancing, all of these reasons meant that the flu went away. We now have a whole bunch of children under 3 or 4 who have never had flu, natural immunity or vaccine induced immunity and therefore can actually get quiet sick and end up in hospital." The West Live is on the road this week, and we're doing the show today from Albany. A bit later on we'll speak to the local mayor and find out what's going on around town. On the topic of travelling around WA, we need to speak about what Tourism WA is doing to get interstate visitors to head West. We spoke on the West Live a few weeks back about a Tourism WA plan to bring Network 10's current affairs show The Project over here. Well, now we have a better idea of how much that cost. It's been revealed the government's tourism agency had a budget of 1.5 million dollars to bring Peter Hellier, Carrie Bickmore and co over here for a week's worth of shows. We don't know exactly how much of that money was spent, but you'd have to think a lot of it, considering The Project went up to Broome, visited Margaret River and Ningaloo Reef as well. So what did WA get out of this big expenditure? Well, that's not so clear. The Project's ratings have been falling for years, and some of the episodes shot in Perth were actually watched by more West Aussies than Sydneysiders. That's less than ideal. Ask Tourism WA though, and they'll tell you it was a raging success. They reckon that if you include supporting media coverage, which means advertising and social media, the promotional value of those Project episodes was worth 8.6 million dollars. That number is more rubbery than Gumby, but it does follow industry standards for calculating such things. Tourism WA also reckons that while the Project episodes aired traffic to WA's flagship tourism website increased by 31 per cent. That sounds great, but would sound even better if we knew what the number was before the increase. My guess is, not nearly as high as we'd like it. With international borders reopening and the airlines falling over themselves to add new routes and offer discounts, it's going to be harder than ever to attract visitors to WA. So, I don't hate the idea of Tourism WA shelling out the big bucks to bring national TV shows to Perth. But its fair to question whether the Project, with it's relatively low viewership was worth the money. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Well with Fyfey now needing further surgery it's not an ideal start to the 2022 season for the Captain. But a setback is nothing more than a setup for a comeback! Time for the latest episode of the Restump Podcast. In this episode we take a look at a few potential interstate draftees. We mock pick 6,8 and 19 from the pool of talent without the WA contingent. A pretty difficult task considering the tall quality forwards we're after are predominantly West Aussies. Nat Fyfe is often referred to as head and shoulders above the rest. After his recent run in with the sheep shearing clippers, there are grounds to suggest his shoulder situation isn't his biggest issue at the moment! We offer up a lot of nonsensical commentary on the great man's ever changing hair style and the cracked shoulder bone. While there has been little to no fanfare regarding Darcy the Tucker Truck's two year deal it could well turn out to be one of our very important signatures if we can overlook his 2021 year. CEO Simon Garlic is seemingly advocating to make 17 game seasons permanent. The question has to be asked, is he just trying to reduce his own workload? After recruiting a boatload of 30 year olds, Geelong Chief Executive Steve Hocking takes an interesting parting shot at Jordan Clark and fellow Geelong youngsters for not earning their spots. We might be in the eye of storm between the trade period and the draft but we always find plenty of Docker drivel. The struggle to get this episode of the Restump Podcast completed has been extraordinarily real. Numerous ‘technical' issues, a race against mobile battery time and a long afternoon lunch that ended at about 11pm all conspired against us. (the culprit's initials are Jojo McDonnell) However, we pushed through and now the preview of Sunday's clash against the red-hot Western Bulldogs is, albeit a day late, finally out. Before Sunday's contest though we have the Dream Time game Saturday evening and what a magnificent spectacle it promises to be. Massively supported by us West Aussies, with tickets disappearing quicker than Michael Braun in late 2008.On Sunday the super slick Sonny Walters, Liam Henry and Nathan Wilson lead the indigenous charge against the Bulldogs and they'll represent their culture, their people and the Fremantle football club exceptionally well and they'll leave Freo fans proud. It will have to be all hands-on deck for four quarters by the entire team if we're to be any hope of pinching what seems an unlikely win. Combatting the Bullies' classy and highly productive midfield is an unenviable assignment. If their mids aren't scary enough, then probably don't let your eyes wander down to their forward line because you'll see current Coleman medal 3rd placed holder Josh Bruce and 7th placed, incredibly mobile and accomplished aerialist Aaron Naughton occupying plenty of forward 50 real estate. While we lose Switkowski and Tobe, our bookends are back! Griff and Tabs return to add some much-needed size and stature at either ends of the ground. Throw in full 4 quarters of Lobb effort and a Cyclone you don't want to stand in front of and suddenly there seems some hope!Freo fans obviously harbour hopes for a victory, but we simply need to see an enhanced effort based, predominantly defensive focused approach from all 22 players and potentially the medical sub. It's also imperative we're ready to go as soon as the initial siren sounds and not 20 minutes later. This nodding off ‘slow out of the blocks' strategy has got knobs on it! Jojo McDonnell returns from his North West holiday in a day or two so we can expect better performances from the Restump team in podcasts to come. Leaving the Chief with responsibility has proven a failed experiment. However, don't let that stop you getting this purple nonsense in your ears on your way to the game Sunday while you're sitting on the bus or the train. Having said that said, I wouldn't undersell the noise of public transport as a comparable and possible preferred option!
