Whenever I attempted to force myself to drop weekly episodes consistently, I noticed the quality of the content was lacking. I also noticed I wasn't really enjoying my time with the mic. I felt a sense of anxiousness when I wasn't being consistent (because of life reasons). So much to the the point where one week without content led to weeks, months and eventually almost a whole year without content. Little did I know, I needed that break. That yearlong break helped me appreciate the journey more. It helped me realize I needed to slow down and continue to podcast journey with flow and ease. Letting it be what it is. If I released content weekly, great. But if not, That's also fine. As long as the consistency and the work is there. Now I find podcasting more enjoyable.Fasting has so many benefits. Fasting during the change of seasons, more specifically during the spring and autumn equinoxes, have so many more benefits. According to Viridian-nutrition.com, fasting during the spring and fall is when the sun and earth are most in alignment with each other, carries greater benefit and is more spiritually effective, with one of the reasons being the blood is thinner during the equinox and when the blood is thinner, the blood moves faster and therefore speeds up the elimination of toxins. Those who know me know how much I enjoy running. For me, running is the ultimate stress reliever. Whenever I feel overwhelmed, anxious or depressed, I go for a run. Of course one of the greatest benefits of running is it is the perfect stress reliever. There are many other benefits of running such as it builds cardiovascular endurance, strong lungs and a strong heart. Running also builds strength in the joints and throughout the body. Running makes me happy. It puts me in better spirits. Running paired with resistance training is the perfect balance (when programmed properly and intelligently) for a strong healthy body and an overall healthy and aesthetically pleasing physique. Whatever struggles you're going through in life, I suggest going for a run. Will your problems go away? No. But you'll find a way to tackle each problem one by one without the feeling of stress and overwhelm. Overtrained. Under fed. Burnt out. Tired. Disconnected. Confused. Overwhelmed. Those are just a few words to describe what we feel when we get caught up in training too hard, training too often, not eating enough, weighing and measuring every single meal and counting every single calorie trying to chase the perfect body (which doesn't exist). It's just one huge mind f*@k. These obsessions has us looking for physical and aesthetic flaws that may or may not exist. These obsessions disconnect us from ourselves and our loved ones. Over time, we may end up with body dysmorphia (obsessively focusing on a flaw in appearance) which can create unhealthy relationships with food and people. As a teenager, I partied pretty hard, and I drank even harder. I was never an alcoholic but what's a party without some liquid courage? I'd stay up all night, well into the morning, drunk and hungry. Being intoxicated I made plenty of bad decisions and one of those bad decisions was eating super unhealthy food at six in the morning. I slept very little, I ate bad food, I was hungover more times than I can count. My body was not flattering at all. I grew tired of sleepless nights and constant drinking of alcohol. I grew tired of feeling the way I felt and looking the way I looked. Alcohol no longer served me. Well, it never did. I just wasn't aware. I've been free from alcohol almost two years. I eat super healthy and clean. I train often. I train hard. And most importantly, I get quality sleep. Alcohol effects the lungs, the heart, sex drive, the digestive system, muscles, bones, kidneys. My guest on today's episode is a former BBQ Pit Master turned RawBQ Plant Master. Perí is a raw plant based Private Chef and consultant. As a successful BBQ food truck and catering business owner, Perí developed several health issues which is what led him to experiment with plant based foods. Perí's journey started with a smoothie a day and as he progressed into his plant based journey, Perí started to heal a lot of the ailments he picked up during the times he was eating meat. Over time, Perí decided to take his plant based journey a step further by going raw plant based which enhanced his spiritual awakening. This spiritual awakening led Perí to tap into his higher self which then led to fasting which started intermittently and progressed to multi day dry fasting. Perí has a social media and YouTube presence where he posts his journey as well as his meals and recipes. Perí's level of ascension is inspiring and we all can learn a thing or two from this enlightened brother. If you're interested in trying a raw plant based diet, make sure you do your research. Educate yourself to see if it's right for you. Take baby steps. Don't jump right in. The same goes with fasting. I finally had the opportunity to sit down with Speedy Sheppard. Speedy is a former Semi Professional football player, a personal development coach, an author, a brand ambassador, an entrepreneur, and the host of his very own podcast The Speedy Tribe Podcast. Speedy was born and raised in Passaic, New Jersey where he experienced drugs and violence. These experiences gave speedy the drive he needed in order to break his family's generational curses and that started with football. I'm officially back with another epic conversation with a young up and coming professional calisthenics athlete. This future pro goes by the name of Timmy. Timmy is a swim instructor who practices calisthenics with a little bit of weightlifting on the side. In the past, Timmy struggled with alcohol but overcame that addiction and began to focus on his physical and mental health. He started with basic calisthenics where he eventually realized he wanted to take the sport more serious where he practiced muscle ups and front levers. Fasting has been around for centuries. Our ancestors, who had to hunt and fight for their food everyday, went without food until the next opportunity to kill their food arrived. Fasting is well known in religion where followers fasted to cleanse their bodies for their god. Today, fasting is a popular fad most commonly used for weight loss purposes. I've fasted in the past and today I continue to fast on and off. Weight loss is a benefit of intermittent fasting along with many other benefits. However, fasting comes with plenty of cons such as binge eating after breaking ones fast, and can cause an eating disorder just to name a couple. Using fasting for weight loss is setting the wrong intention. If you fast, set positive intentions such as goals of cleansing the gut and clearing the mind. As of 2020, the U.S. adult obesity rate stands at 42.4%, the first time the national rate has passed the forty percent mark. The rate of childhood and teen obesity (ages 2-19) is at 19.3%. This is an epidemic that will worsen and changes need to be made. Adults need to make better choices. Parents need to teach healthy eating habits to children. It won't be easy but it's not impossible. Change your lifestyle. Eat better. Eat clean. Move your body. Lift heavy. Go for a run. Go for a walk. Cut back on all consumption. You will feel better. In this episode I sat down with athlete and workout efficiency engineer Igor of Zero Gravity Training. Igor was born in Siberia and raised in Latvia where he played sports and studied martial arts. Igor moved to the United States over a decade ago where he got into weightlifting and eventually bodybuilding. We're addicted to television, computers, and phones. We stream all day, we're online all day, and we're constantly scrolling. Our heads are always down, we're always distracted, we have short attention spans, and we're just not paying attention. We're not enjoying ourselves. We're not present. We need to take a break from all of this technology. Put the phones down. Close the computers. Turn off the televisions. Enjoy physical time with friends and loved ones. Look around. Training Is A Lifestyle. We train for strength. We train for endurance. We train for sport. We train for longevity. WE TRAIN. But the problem is too many of us look for excuses as to why we don't train.
