No matter how long Ncuti Gatwa plays The Doctor in the legendary sci-fi series Doctor Who, he still can't quite believe he gets to play the part. "I just feel very honored to be a part of the Who-niverse, because it made me feel very included." Going into his second season as The Doctor, "It always blows my mind whenever I speak to someone from over the pond that knows about Doctor Who, because [it] just feels like our tiny, little British TV show." Thanks to the international reach of Disney+, "the show is getting bigger, and more people have access to this wonderful little secret that us nerds had for a little while just all to ourselves." Gatwa acknowledges he "had great teachers" in past Doctors. "They each had something really different." And this season will bring even more nostalgia. "Classic Who fans will be happy about this season, there's lots of Easter eggs in it for them." But Gatwa, as the first Black Doctor, is especially proud that "little Black kids are gonna be looking at me like, 'I might be the Doctor,' or they might feel a little more relatability to the show." Blayne Alexander and Andrea Canning discuss Andrea's episode, “The Night of the Nor'easter.” In 2022, Karen Read was charged with killing her Boston police officer boyfriend, John O'Keefe, by drunkenly backing her car into him in blizzard conditions. She says that never happened, and her defense – that she was being framed as part of a police cover up – gained national attention and sparked demonstrations and protests at the courthouse. Andrea talks about covering Read's high-profile trial this summer, and what it was like interviewing Read's defense attorney, Alan Jackson. Later, Andrea shares a podcast-exclusive clip from her conversation with one of John O'Keefe's family members. And Dateline producer Sue Simpson stops by to answer viewer and listener questions from social media.Listen to the full episode of "The Night of the Nor'easter" here: https://link.chtbl.com/dl_thenightofthenoreaster

Yeats's great poem about the uprising of Irish republicans against British rule on 24 April 1916 marked a turning point in Ireland's history and in Yeats's career. Through four stanzas Yeats enacts the transfiguration of the movement's leaders – executed by the British shortly after the event – from ‘motley' acquaintances to heroic martyrs, and interrogates his own attitude to nationalist violence. Mark and Seamus discuss Yeats's reflections on the value of political commitment, his embrace of the role of national bard and the origin of the poem's most famous line.Sign up to the Close Readings subscription to listen ad free and to all our series in full:Directly in Apple PodcastsIn other podcast appsRead more in the LRB:Terry Eagleton: www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v16/n13/terry-eagleton/spookyColm Tóibín:www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v38/n07/colm-toibin/after-i-am-hanged-my-portrait-will-be-interestingFrank Kermode:www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v19/n06/frank-kermode/what-he-didTom Paulin:www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v08/n06/tom-paulin/dreadful-sentiments Hosted on Acast. Live—from the campus of Hillsdale College in beautiful Hillsdale Michigan— this is Scot Bertram in for Steve on the Steve Gruber Show for –Tuesday February 13th 2024— —Here are 3 big things you need to know— One — Police in Houston are releasing more details on the shooter at Joel Osteen's megachurch. Early reports say the shooter Genesse Moreno had a history of mental illness and was involved in a dispute with her Jewish ex-husband. Authorities said Monday that she had an anti-semitic background and a sticker that read "Palestine" was attached to the butt of her rifle. Moreno entered the church Sunday with her seven-year-old son before she was shot and killed by off-duty officers. Two— The price of gasoline increased dramatically in the past week according to Triple A Michigan. The average price went up on average by 26-cents to three-dollars-26-cents a gallon which is the highest so far this year. The price is 40-cents a gallon more than just one month ago. Higher demand and reduction in the gasoline supply are being cited as the reason for the increase. And number three — A Nor'easter is expected to clobber parts of the New England coast with heavy snow and the risk of flooding in parts of Pennsylvania and southern New York Tuesday. Winter storm advisories and warning are also in effect for northern Arkansas, Oklahoma along with parts of Missouri and Kentucky.
The low pressure center is now forecasted to be weaker, and as a result, snowfall rates will be lower. In Boston, around 3 inches seems likely, ramping up to 4 to 6 inches on the South Shore and 6 to 8 inches on Cape Cod.
The Israeli military's hostage rescue operation in Gaza led to deadly airstrikes targeting Hamas – we have the latest. Parts of the Northeast are bracing for heavy snow as severe thunderstorms in the Southeast raise flooding concerns. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is back in the hospital.
