Principal Dancer with Alonzo King LINES Ballet Adji Cissoko attended the Ballet Academy Munich and the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet Theatre in New York City on a full scholarship before joining the National Ballet of Canada. Adji shares with Alicia how she fell in love with classical ballet at a young age, and ultimately appreciated her musicality, joyful soul, and long limbs as a natural fit for the improvisational work of the LINES company. Adji reflects on her childhood, training, family, her incredible career so far and her 2020 projects....do you know what a Kora is? Listen to find out!ADJI CISSOKO was born and grew up in Munich, Germany where she trained at the Ballet Academy Munich and graduated with a diploma in dance. Cissoko attended the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet Theatre in New York City on full scholarship, before joining the National Ballet of Canada in 2010. In 2012 she was awarded the Patron Award of Merit by the Patrons' Council Committee of The National Ballet of Canada. Cissoko joined LINES Ballet in 2014. Since then she's originated many central roles and guested for galas worldwide. Cissoko has given multiple masterclasses and taught classes around the world as part of the company's outreach program. In 2020 she became certified in health/life coaching as well as in ABT's National Training Curriculum.

Her research focuses on combining probabilistic graphical modeling and deep learning to design models for structured high-dimensional data. Her PhD thesis is titled "Deep Probabilistic Graphical Modeling", which she completed in 2020 at Columbia University. In this episode, I'm joined by Adji Bousso Dieng, PhD Student in the Department of Statistics at Columbia University. In this interview, Adji and I discuss two of her recent papers, the first, an accepted paper from this year’s ICML conference titled “Noisin: Unbiased Regularization for Recurrent Neural Networks,” which, as the name implies, presents a new way to regularize RNNs using noise injection. The second paper, an ICLR submission from last year titled “TopicRNN: A Recurrent Neural Network with Long-Range Semantic Dependency,” debuts an RNN-based language model designed to capture the global semantic meaning relating words in a document via latent topics. Später treffen wir Adji, der sich mit der indoneischen Umweltstiftung YEL für die Rettung des Regenwalds und der Orang-Utans einsetzt.
