Alan Black shares his journey of surrender to become a Christian author Alan Black grew up in the United Methodist Church. While he proudly embraces his background and personal history within the United Methodist Church, he does not feel that denomination is important. What matters most is the relationship that you have with the Lord. Through the years, if Alan were to describe his relationship with the Lord using one word it would be “transformation” marked by daily growth in his walk with the Lord, and as well continuing to display the fruits of his Spirit. For these times, his attitude and belief are that the world is looking to Christians to see if, in fact, their talk does indeed match their walk. Like all of us, Alan has experienced twists and turns along the road of life. But each step along that road has led him to this point in life to humbly say that he is an author. But being able to say that he is a Christian author is the most important thing of all to him. To everything, there is a time and season. Though Alan was unsure of what was in store for him, Alan sought to be obedient and to trust in the Lord. Alan is now able to show others that God will qualify you and lead you to accomplish what His charge is for you if you can be a willing servant.

It was 5.30 in the evening, and sixteen textile workers were in a minibus on their way home from the factory they worked at. Four workers got out at Whitecross and the bus continued on before being flagged down and stopped by a man in a combat uniform. They asked which of the workers were Catholics and the one Catholic man made himself known. He was told to "Get down the road and don't look back". On that fateful evening, the remaining 11 protestant workers who were still on the bus would not be making it home.SOURCES:Article about the massacre:https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/imported/blood-in-the-rain-28255886.htmlArticle about Kingsmill memorial being attacked:https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-northern-ireland-20573217BBC article from the archives: http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/january/5/newsid_2500000/2500393.stmCAIN Photo of a memorial:https://cain.ulster.ac.uk/victims/memorials/static/photos/408.htmlArticle about Sinn Fein rejecting findings of CAIN report: https://sluggerotoole.com/2011/06/22/sinn-fein-rejects-het-findings-on-kingsmill-massacre/Article about the families campaign for the truth:https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-northern-ireland-13871535Human kindness and heroism shine out from North’s Kingsmill atrocity:https://www.irishtimes.com/news/politics/human-kindness-and-heroism-shine-out-from-north-s-kingsmill-atrocity-1.1858395Interview with Alan Black the sole survivor of the massacre, during a chance, encounter on the street. The reporter didn't know who he was and was asking random people on the street about Brexit:https://youtu.be/txcnmz_qiKIArticle regarding the palm print:https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/kingsmill-massacre-man-will-not-be-prosecuted-over-palm-print-1.2969511Account of Alan Black during inquest:https://www.irishtimes.com/news/crime-and-law/courts/coroner-s-court/victim-of-kingsmill-massacre-cried-for-his-mother-inquest-told-1.2660388Alan Black RTE Interview:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0RRm36vdhU&ab_channel=RTERadio1A documentary about the Glenanne Ganghttps://youtu.be/LUjC5xJrmLk See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

1990 marked the beginning of the most exciting era in Wildcats history after businessman Kerry Stokes purchased the franchise and moved the team into the iconic 8,000-seat Perth Entertainment Centre. The season was a turbulent one to say the least with the first controversy coming when coach Alan Black was fired and replaced by Bruton only two games into the season. The team then limped into the playoffs in 5th place and a 17-9 record. After knocking out the North Melbourne Giants in the Semi-Finals the team moved forward to a Grand Final match-up with a tough Brisbane Bullets squad featuring Leroy Loggins, Derek Rucker and Andre Moore. Tens of thousands of people across Western Australia tuned in to the live coverage to see the Wildcats triumph 112–106 in Game 1 of the Grand Final series in front of a sold-out crowd of 8,200 at the Perth Entertainment Centre. Brisbane tied the series at 1–1 after winning Game 2 in convincing fashion at home, 106–90 and in the deciding game, the Wildcats blew the game wide open in the third quarter, creating a 20 buffer to come home easily in the fourth quarter and win the first NBL championship for a Western Australian team in a 109–86 victory. Ricky Grace was recognised as grand final MVP, averaging averaged 25 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists over the three-game series. Nunawading Basketball was established in 1969. In 1979, a Nunawading Spectres men's team entered the National Basketball League for its inaugural season. Barry Barnes would coach the team during every NBL season until the team decided to move into the CBD to facilitate more fans and in doing so were renamed the Eastside Melbourne Spectres. The Nunawading Spectres would narrowly miss out on an NBL Grand Final appearance due to countback in 1979 and then were runners-up in 1981 to Launceston City Casino. The Spectres' opening-night roster included Bill Palmer, Fox, Brendan Joyce, Alan Black, Dean Templeton and Barry Barnes as coach. Six men who were to play significant roles in shaping the NBL during it's for 20 seasons. Palmer became general manager of the league in the mid-90s and took the game to new heights. Fox, Joyce, Black and Templeton became NBL head coaches with a combined 565-499 win-loss record and four NBL Coach of the Year awards (two each for Black and Joyce). Among other players who wore the red, white and blue for Nunawading in the NBL were Damian Keogh, Dean Uthoff, Bruce Bolden, Ian Stacker, Steve Lunardon, Chuck Harmison, Vince Hinchen, Darren Lucas and Robert Scrigni. Barry Barnes would also coach the Geelong Supercats and Canberra Cannons before becoming the first full-time head coach of the Australian Men’s  National Team in 1993, leading the Boomers in two Olympics (1996 & 2000) and two FIBA World Championships (1994 & 1998). Topics include; The history of the Nunawading Spectres NBL program (2:00) The difference's between the Australian National program in the 1960s compared to the 1990s (10:30) The NBL begins in 1979, Barry's memories of that time and the first season of the Nunawading Spectres (18:00) The Spectres miss out on the 1979 Grand Final in unusual fashion (30:00) The Spectres ability to produce some of the greatest Australian coaching talent in the 1980s (36:00) Why Barry wasn't happy about the team moving to the CDB and becoming the Eastside Spectres (41:00) A three-year stint with the Geelong Supercats which includes Shane Heal, John Dorge, Daren Rowe and Bobby Locke (47:00 Does winning the coach of the year award mean you're doing your best coaching? (56:00) What things would he do differently as a coach knowing where the game is today (100:00) Who was the hardest opposition player to stop during his time as a coach (103:00) Memories of former Nunawading Spectre Robert Scrigni who sadly took his own life only a few years after playing for the Australian Boomers (106:00) Thoughts on his former Boomers assistant Brett Brown being fired by the Philadelphia 76ers (108:00) Visit dunk.com.au for your next set of basketball uniforms.
