Russell also starred in the series Felicity and The Americans. She spoke with us last year about these characters and getting her start on The All New Mickey Mouse Club as a kid. It is no secret that The All New Mickey Mouse Club produced superstars like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Ryan Gosling, Keri Russell and dozens more. This show was a launching pad for stars of the y2k era and my guest Jennifer McGill had a front row seat. As a cast member on all 7 seasons of MMC, Jennifer had the chance to showcase her stellar vocal talent with covers of her favorite songs, interview pop-stars of the time and even perfect her acting skills with my personal favorite skit, "As the Mall Turns". Tune in to hear about her experience and see what she's up to now that the mouse-ears have been hung up! More about Jennifer from her site: With over 30 years of showbiz under her belt, she now tells the stories of her rollercoaster ups and downs like never before, as a Speaker, Worship Leader, Songwriter, Coach, and Inspirational Pop Recording Artist. What started as almost a clean sweep of nearly 50 pageant victories from age seven in a small Texas town quickly evolved into seven seasons in Orlando on the Disney Channel's wildly popular The All-New Mickey Mouse Club in the late ‘80s well into the ‘90s, which Jennifer describes as a sort of “‘Saturday Night Live' for kids” featuring interviews, skits, variety show-styled razzle dazzle, and of course, loads of singing. A quick internet search shows her performing alongside a slew of internationally renowned stars, and throughout a real time conversation, she just as casually mentions how Michael Jackson used to visit the set as a major fan of their show or the time when Celine Dion helped calm her nerves prior to an inauguration performance for President Bill Clinton at the Kennedy Center. It's Tuesday June 29th and here are your latest Music News Stories Brought to you by The Filter. Britney Spears' sister Jamie Lynn Spears took to her Instagram Stories on Monday to share a message of support. “Since the day I was born, I've only loved and adored and supported my sister,” Jamie Lynn “I have made a very conscious choice in my life to only participate in [Britney's] life as a sister. “Maybe I didn't support her the way the public would like me to, with a hashtag on a public platform, but I can assure you that I've supported my sister long before there was a hashtag, and I'll support her long after.” “I felt like until my sister was able to speak for herself and say what she felt she needed to say publicly, it wasn't my place and it wasn't the right thing to do,” said Jamie Lynn. “But now that she's very clearly spoken and said what she needed to say, I feel like I can follow her lead and say what I feel I need to say.” Christina Aguilera has also weighed in on Britney Spears' heartbreaking plea last week to end the conservatorship she has been under since 2008. Aguilera, whose debut album came out seven months after Spears' first album, shared a message of support Monday via Instagram Stories. “It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish,” wrote the 40-year-old singer. “To be silenced, ignored, bullied or denied support by those ‘close' to you is the most depleting, devastating and demeaning thing imaginable. The harmful mental and emotional damage this can take on a human spirit is nothing to be taken lightly. Every woman must have the right to her own body, her own reproductive system, her own privacy, her own space, her own healing and her own happiness.” In her message, Aguilera said the “conviction and desperation of this plea for freedom leads me to believe that this person I once knew has been living without compassion or decency from those in control.” Aguilera concluded: “To a woman who has worked under conditions and pressure unimaginable to most, I promise you she deserves all of the freedom possible to live her happiest life. My heart goes out to Britney. She deserves all the TRUE love and support in the world.” Aguilera and Spears – along with *NSYNC's Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez and Canada's Ryan Gosling – were part of Disney's The All New Mickey Mouse Club before finding fame. Halsey excited music fans across the world yesterday when she shared a billboard announcing her latest album If I Can't Have Love I Want Power. Little more is known about the project, other than it is produced by legendary artists Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails Fame Thanks to John R. Kennedy for today's stories. Produced by Tampa's WTVT in 1989, now FOX 13 Tampa, “The Making of… The Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park” was hosted by Fred Newman. He also hosted the “All New Mickey Mouse Club” from 1989-1994 which was filmed at the Studios. The behind the scenes special includes a storyline featuring Fred Newman going undercover to find out what this Hollywood in Florida is all about. The Storyline is a little corny in retrospect, but the interviews with Imagineers and construction images more than make up for the storyline. Also included are images as far back as April 1987 when only a hole where Echo Lake would be was identifiable. We get to watch the iconic Chinese Theater get its top and a look at how Hollywood influenced construction all over Hollywood Boulevard, from the Crossroads of America to California crazy architecture. The interviews with cast members during construction and Disney Executives including Michael Eisner and Jeffery Katzenberg echo what MGM Studios was all about at opening, a working movie and television studio where you could get a look at movie magic. The interview also gives us an early look at The Great Movie Ride and an up-close look at the Mickey Mouse sculpture that would be installed at the Crossroads of America. Though not produced by Disney, this special is a great way of looking behind the scenes. The Making of The Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park.

MARGIE FRIEDMAN has produced hundreds of hours of non-fiction television and is now producing her own independent documentary films. Her film Conducting Hope profiles inmates at the Lansing Correctional Facility in Kansas who make up the only men's prison choir in the United States that performs outside prison walls. (41:21) EPISODE NOTES: Many of the people I’ve worked with in the non-fiction TV business didn’t go to film school. I didn’t. But MARGIE FRIEDMAN did. As Margie tells me in MARGE AND IN CHARGE, she did not find out until after she had applied just how selective the UCLA film and television program was (she was one of 19 applicants accepted that year). “If I had known that, I wouldn’t have done it.” Margie says going to UCLA did three things for her. First, it confirmed that she wanted to be a writer, producer and director. Second, it gave her hands-on experience in telling a story visually. Her student film “The Beautiful Ones Aren’t Yet Born” won a Jim Morrison Film Award. (The Doors frontman also studied film at UCLA.) Third, and most important, a professor helped her get an internship at KABC News. Jerry Dunphy (“From the desert to the sea, to all of Southern California, a good evening”) was the top anchor at Channel 7 back then. Dunphy, of course, is considered to be the inspiration for Ted Baxter on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and Kent Brockman on "The Simpsons." That newsroom internship turned into a paying job for Margie and she worked for 2 years at the station as an assistant to the consumer reporter assignment editor and working on the assignment desk. After 2 more years as a planning editor working at KNXT (now KCBS), Margie decided she didn’t want to make local news her career. Talk shows became a big part of Margie’s life over the next several years, 7 of them spent on “Hour Magazine” with Gary Collins. Lots of celebrity interaction on that show. Mike Wallace and Bette Midler were just 2 of the celeb segments that Margie produced on the daily syndicated show. But her very favorite was Mary Martin. Margie brought her childhood “Peter Pan” album to the studio that day and asked the Broadway star to sign it – the only autograph she’s ever asked for. Another big MM came into Margie’s professional life later on: Mickey Mouse. Her former boss from “Hour Magazine” convinced her to move to Orlando for a couple months to help him get “The All New Mickey Mouse Club” up and running. But 2 months turned into 2 and a half years before Margie finally said “M-I-C … See you real soon.” Plenty of fond memories, though, including working with Mouseketeer Keri Russell who’s all grown up now and starring in “The Americans." And what’s Margie up to these days? After getting paid to write and produce hundreds of hours of television, she’s now producing her own independent documentary films. Her first doc is called “Conducting Hope” and it’s an inspiring look at the only men’s prison choir in the United States that performs outside prison walls. Having filmed in prisons in 20 states myself, I really enjoyed talking with Margie about this particular project and the inmates she profiled. Margie’s now busy with another film called “Orchestrating Change,” which is about the world’s first orchestra made up of musicians with mental illnesses and those who support them.
