Could you imagine being 12 years old at your first week of dance practice after being cast for the New Mickey Mouse Club - feeling so thrilled to be there, a little nervous but filled with anticipation - and the first thing the choreographer says as they comes over to you in your leotard is to pat your belly and say "Got a little gut on there don't you, girly? Gonna have to get rid of that..." Yeah. That happened to my mom. How would you not begin to have some body image issues after that? I bring her in for a heartfelt discussion about the uphill battle it can be to have a healthy relationship to your body. Whether it was a dance teacher, TV commercial, or magazine ad targeted to inform you of your inadequacy it seems that society has been conditioning us to hate our bodies from multiple angles. Yet, the concept of body neutrality - basically the act of taking a neutral stance toward your body both emotionally and physically - seems to be more difficult to implement as we are swimming upstream. The ability to not support the hatred towards your body's “limitations” but simply being at peace with your body is easier said than done, yet I do think there is a path forward. My mom was really brave to experience share her journey with this throughout her life and also raising two young women with the intention to NOT have that be our inner monologue. Join us as we discuss the power our bodies possess, far beyond what they even look like. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This week Burke speaks with Stephen Winer, one of the award-winning writers behind David Letterman's first show. He has used his lifelong love for writing to write a variety of shows with some of the country's favorite talents. After 40 years in the business, he's seen the industry evolve and what those changes meant for the actors and the writers behind the scenes. He has a great appreciation for sketch comedy, the style that made Letterman so different back in the day. One "pinch me" moment, he worked with Dick Van Dyke. He would eventually help a generation of younger actors with The New Mickey Mouse Club. These days he writes about classic film, to view his essays visit: https://www.criterion.com/current/author/473-stephen-winer The Big Time Talker is sponsored by Speakermatch.com.

It is no secret that The All New Mickey Mouse Club produced superstars like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Ryan Gosling, Keri Russell and dozens more. This show was a launching pad for stars of the y2k era and my guest Jennifer McGill had a front row seat. As a cast member on all 7 seasons of MMC, Jennifer had the chance to showcase her stellar vocal talent with covers of her favorite songs, interview pop-stars of the time and even perfect her acting skills with my personal favorite skit, "As the Mall Turns". Tune in to hear about her experience and see what she's up to now that the mouse-ears have been hung up! More about Jennifer from her site: With over 30 years of showbiz under her belt, she now tells the stories of her rollercoaster ups and downs like never before, as a Speaker, Worship Leader, Songwriter, Coach, and Inspirational Pop Recording Artist. What started as almost a clean sweep of nearly 50 pageant victories from age seven in a small Texas town quickly evolved into seven seasons in Orlando on the Disney Channel's wildly popular The All-New Mickey Mouse Club in the late ‘80s well into the ‘90s, which Jennifer describes as a sort of “‘Saturday Night Live' for kids” featuring interviews, skits, variety show-styled razzle dazzle, and of course, loads of singing. A quick internet search shows her performing alongside a slew of internationally renowned stars, and throughout a real time conversation, she just as casually mentions how Michael Jackson used to visit the set as a major fan of their show or the time when Celine Dion helped calm her nerves prior to an inauguration performance for President Bill Clinton at the Kennedy Center. Each longtime feminists Barbara and Lesley bring a broad variety of topics to the conversation. Each that pointedly effect the lives of women. From ‘to mother' or ‘not to mother', to how we can do better for our boys so they grow into men equipped to engage in full partnerships with women, to the journey of older women who chose to have abortions during a period when it was illegal throughout most of the country. They discuss the power of film as a vehicle for educating society, lawmakers, as a tool for lawyers in court and a stage for giving voice. Barbara Bentree is a multiple award-winning filmmaker and musician. She produced vocal music for "The New Mickey Mouse Club" television show for THE DISNEY CHANNEL. As a member of SAG at a very young age, Dawn was close to becoming a Mouseketeer for the New Mickey Mouse Club many years ago. Her father's sudden health scare made it impossible to continue, however he lived for many, many years to come. These days she has done a variety of voice over work for a few Disney themed websites as well as the complete narration of a Disneyland documentary featuring the Peoplemover attraction. Her voice over work also includes internet radio commercials, bumpers, and intros. Other interests include family (first, of course), being a grandma, her love for creatures of all kinds, fashion (her major in college) collecting Disney and a variety of vintage items such as records and dolls, time at the local meet, helping promote small businesses as a product influencer via social media, a Disneyland trip when possible, swimming, planning new content for her YouTube channel and spreading positivity, love and humor.

And we're back for episode 26, Poppers! This week we are STOKED to bring you an interview with the one and only, Damon Pampolina. You may know him from one amazing show that came straight outta 1989 - The New Mickey Mouse Club (yes - the same camp as Justin, Christina, and Brittany). He was also part of an epic 90s group called The Party. We start out by talking about Social Media Tourette's, and admittedly get a little political (don't worry - we're not taking sides...mostly). Damon gets down and dirty with us, and we dig into everything under the sun. You DON'T want to miss this interview. All this and more on this week's episode of Pop Goulash. Jackie Evancho - Take a trip with me back to 2009, for my first recorded interview (where I recorded my notes and made it into a podcast) for the budding World of Art show which is now the AME Radio Show. It was her first interview as well. In 2009 Jackie was 9 years old. This is also my first "FLASHBACK AME" segment so lots of firsts came with Jackie! Now she's a multi-platinum recording artist. Listen to her before she was famous in this interview.Jennifer McGill - You know Jennifer from "The NEW Mickey Mouse Club", the show that gave us incredible talents like Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Brittney Spears and so many more. Now Jennifer is releasing a brand new full length album called "Unbreakable"

Jennifer McGill was an international Disney star at age 11. As part of the cast of The All New Mickey Mouse Club for seven seasons with cast members such as Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling, and Brittany Spears, Jennifer was groomed for the same pop stardom. But when her life track didn’t go as planned, Jennifer went through fifteen years of searching that brought her to a breaking point. What happened next was nothing short of miraculous, bringing about changes for Jennifer and her career that would lead her into whole new realms of life, ministry, and warring for the souls of young girls through her show Bravehearted Girls. In this powerful episode of The Song Revolution Podcast, Jennifer McGill shares: What it was like to be chosen for the New Mickey Mouse Club and to stay on the show for seven seasons Her journey from being a child star to surviving the trials of adulthood and finding her own identity after the show Overcoming the comparison to former Mousketeers and discovering what “IT” is for her at this time in her life and career How excellence has set her free to be who she is as a singer, songwriter, and artist The mistakes that disconnected her from God and imprisoned her real expressions of love, music, or creativity and how she broke out by rededicating her life to Christ Why the fight is worth it and why you MUST fight your way out of your desperation What she learned in New York City and how God moved her on into new seasons of perspective as she let go of her own passions and will to succeed Why you’re crazy to give up at 40… Her ministry for tweens to teach them to fight fear through the show Freedom Fighters and how to develop prayer in their lives Why “the power of us” is so important to her life and ministry as she’s overcome childhood bullying and now wants to share freedom from it with young girls How we wrote the title song to her new full-length album “Unbreakable” releasing June 16th, 2017 What a “track guy” is in a co-writing session and how to write pop songs without one Things she’s learned as a new co-writer in Nashville and how to do it well The secret of “letting go of control” in order to write great songs Why it’s not always about “who you know” that enlivens your spirit and inspires your songs How to connect with Jennifer and her ministry And much more!
