You Can Have Anything You Want If You Are Willing to Be Boring (Money Monday)

During a practice round at a major golf tournament recently, one of the players hit an exceptionally beautiful shot. A fan in the gallery exclaimed, "Man, I wish I could hit a shot like that!" The player walked over to the fan and said, tongue-in-cheek, "No, you don't." The fan looked confused. "What do you mean?" The player replied, "You don't want to hit a shot like that because that means hitting a thousand balls a day, every day, for the next 20 years. That's what it takes to hit a shot like that." And that's true for pretty much everything you want to accomplish life—whether it's playing golf, the piano, selling, investing, or mastering AI. If you want to be elite, you have to do a lot of repetitions of the same thing to reach the top.  Adopt The Mamba Mentality You've got to practice constantly. And this is what a lot of people miss. See, the truth is you can have anything in life you want—pretty much within reason—as long as you're willing to do the boring work. You know what separates Warren Buffett, the greatest investor of our generation, from other investors? He's read over 100,000 financial statements in his lifetime. Think about that. 100,000 financial statements. That's not exciting work. That's not sexy. It is sitting alone, poring over numbers, analyzing balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, day after day, year after year, decade after decade. But that boring work made him one of the richest people on the planet. Or look at Kobe Bryant. Kobe was famous for his "Mamba Mentality" which meant showing up at 4 AM to practice, hours before his teammates. It meant shooting thousands of the same shots over and over. His trainer once said Kobe would practice one simple move 700-800 times in a single session. Not 10 times, not 50 times. 700-800 times. The same move, over and over and over again. That's the boring work that made him a legend. Going out to the driving range and hitting a thousand balls with your seven iron is one of the most boring things you can possibly do. Crap, hitting 50 balls with your seven iron is boring. But that's what separates the top performers from the low performers—they're willing to do the boring things. Top Performers are Always Working at It In sales, top performers are constantly studying. I meet them all the time. They show up in my seminars, read my books and listen to my podcasts. They're taking courses on Sales Gravy University. They invest in learning and practicing every single day.  When we run role plays, they jump right in. They recognize that, yeah, that's boring work. But you've got to do the boring things, the repetitive things, to get what you want.  Be Careful What You Wish For So the questions you have to ask yourself when you make that wish for what you want or set a goal is: How bad do you want it? Are you willing to do the work?  Are you willing to make the sacrifice?  Are you willing to grind day in and day out?  Are you willing to do all of boring reps that nobody ever sees in order to reach the very top?  Success is Paid for In Advance With Boring Work You can accomplish anything once you accept that the price for success is paid for in advance. The price of admission to the elite levels of any profession is doing the boring work that most people aren't willing to do. Let me give you an example from my own life. Years ago, when I was starting out in my sales career, I made a commitment to make 100 cold calls every single day no matter what. Rain or shine. Good mood or bad mood. Whether I felt like it or not. You know first hand that cold calling is not exciting work. It's tedious, repetitive, and rejection dense. Honestly, most people—including my boss—thought I was nuts.  But those 100 calls a day allowed me to out perform and out earn all of my peers. It made me the top sales rep in my fortune 200 company. It bought houses, made me wealthy, and eventually gave me the platform to write book...

Many cynically believe that God created the universe, but now remains distant, aloof and uninvolved. But the truth is that God holds intimate knowledge of every person and is always working behind the scenes to draw them to Jesus. And when He wins a person's heart, He faithfully works to conform them into the image of His Son.

Sometimes we veer off track. Away from our soul's path. And in order to recenter, we may at times be faced with crisis. But what's it all for? And why do such harsh events show up in our lives? Is this change in direction really what's best? And why does it have to be so painful? In todays episode, I share a recent life altering event that allowed me to understand crises as not only a change in direction, but a rebalancing of our scale. Perhaps through the path of crisis we may find all our prayers ARE actually being answered… Through awareness, a change of perspective, and turning inward, may you use todays episode to help you rebalance if and when you are ever faced with hardships.May we work to transmute our pain into love.Check out In a Spiritual Sense on YouTube to watch full length videos of each episode!https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQBgQnDQn0nXEcmYZqx8VgA For those looking to connect further please see my accounts below:email: info@inaspiritualsense.com instagram: @stacypiagno  https://www.instagram.com/stacypiagno/ TikTok: @in_a_spiritual_sense  https://www.tiktok.com/@in_a_spiritual_sense?_t=8nKbtkX8Fu2&_r=1

The first question I ask them is "What were your pre-birth intentions?" For those of us who are following Joshua's teachings, one of our pre-birth intentions is to have a massive shift in perspective over one lifetime. You can listen to this on my podcast - 11:48 mins or click the link here for the YouTube Channel version (audio only) This is an episode about things always working out for my highest good. One of my beliefs is that everything happens in divine order. I can think of so many times that I had a plan and my plan didn't execute like I hoped it would. And when I would take the time to reflect and review, what happened was just what needed to happen. Everything is purposeful, even if I don't get why at the time. I was scheduled for a routine colonoscopy on Friday, September 27th at 1 pm. I called Kaiser Thursday morning to confirm that everything was still set because we were expecting a hurricane to hit the area. I was told my procedure was still scheduled and to check the APP and online portal in case anything changed. Here's the thing, the preparation for the colonoscopy requires you to fast and drink a solution to clean you out before the procedure. I was to start a liquid fast by noon on Thursday so I checked online before I started the process of a liquid diet. I was scheduled to be there by10:30 am for my procedure on Friday. Nothing had changed, Something told me to cancel my procedure because they were saying the weather was going to be terrible. I didn't. I didn't trust my guidance. :( By Friday morning, the hurricane had passed through. We had some flooding and the after look of a storm where things look very calm and almost dusky even in the middle of the day. My husband, TD and I drove up to the Kaiser facility and both of us noted how quiet it seemed. When we reached the area to park, there were no cars. Not a good sign. There was a sign posted that all procedures had been canceled. I looked at TD and said, “something told me to cancel and reschedule.” He looked at me and said, " I know you are hungry, let's get something to eat." I love this man. After driving around a bit looking for a place that was open with electricity we ended up at IHOP. I'm really proud of myself for not having pancakes. “Jimmy is a great coach, loved him when he travelled to international training camps with Ireland, great pad man.” When you're getting praise like this from the notoriously hard-to-please Paddy Barnes, then you must be doing something right. And today's guest Jimmy Halpin has been doing something right for 40 years now. Before that, the young Dubliner had talent as a boxer but didn't quite manage to match that with a bulging collection of medals, with his last fight coming in 1981 when, three years out of the ring by then, he ‘got a hiding' when he returned for one night only on a benefit for the Stardust victims. However the lessons he learned still stand to him to this day. Jimmy is loved by his boxers and adored by other coaches, but he takes no bull either and his forthright honesty (or constructive criticism) sometimes leads to disagreements along the way. He trained Ireland's first female fighter (and first female world champion) Deirdre Gogarty when she first walked through the doors at St Saviours in Dublin, and taught double Olympic champion Kellie Harrington many of the moves that led to her topping podiums in Tokyo and Paris. Jimmy worked his magic with Cathal O'Grady, Darren Sutherland and Emmet Brennan - Olympians all - at club level and worked alongside Billy Walsh with the Irish high performance team for over a decade. Now, at 72, he's still giving back as a volunteer, touring clubs all over Dublin, mainly, and giving pointers to coaches and boxers alike. As he says, his mission was to create universal boxers before there was even a term for it. His passion for boxing is infectious and as Jimmy says, once you're in the club - whether you're a novice or a potential world champion - you're deserving of his time, and he'll strive to help you improve. As for the best fighter he worked with during his time in Ireland? I'll give you a clue - it's someone who's got the full set of medals, anyway. Hosted on Acast. Too often, Christians view the Holy Spirit, narrowly, as the source to set them on fire for God and make them satisfied. Such a view shortchanges the Holy Spirit’s role. The truth is, the Spirit of God is working quietly in the background in every part of the believer’s life. In Romans 8, Paul gives five powerful ways the Spirit ministers to Christians. First, the Spirit makes us free from sin and death. Second, the Spirit changes the things we want to think about. Third, the Spirit puts to death the deeds of the body. Fourth, the Spirit bears witness to our adoption as sons. Fifth, the Spirit helps us in our suffering. And, sixth, the Spirit helps us in our weakness when we don’t know how to pray. What a blessing it is to have the Holy Spirit of God! Scripture Reference: Romans 8 Sermon: https://churchandfamilylife.com/sermons/670cb41fd443d6ac8378cf8b

Every day, you'll face pressure to lower them. Don't do it. If you can set a high standard and simply maintain it, you'll do very well for yourself.” Have a high-quality bar. Do three things: Define it: Clearly state the standards. (read The 11 Laws of Showrunning) Maintain it: This is hard to do. Raise it: Keep pushing. You need to define what quality looks like. Set the true north. David worked with a coach to establish his core values. And he was going to narrow it down to five and the coach said, “Nope, it's just one. It's the one that everything in your life orbits around... It's The Pursuit of Excellence. The biggest piece of low-hanging fruit for leaders is getting funnier: Nobody trains themselves to get funnier though. It's strangely taboo. That's why it's such an opportunity. "Laughter is the sound of comprehension." Say something memorable. Humor is memorable. A good way to think... Deconstruct something funny. David spends a lot of time understanding why Theo Von is so funny. The key to excellent storytelling: a moment of change. Conflict and suspense carry stories. Robert Caro writing the LBJ books... "What would I see if I was there." He moved to where LBJ lived to see what it was like to be there. How to cultivate taste: Make a list of things you love/hate. Look for things you love (but aren't supposed to), and things you hate (but are supposed to love). Make things. Don't be a passive consumer. Be a connoisseur. Be discerning about what you consume. Amor Tolles - History is bad for knowing what's good now. Consume old things. Museums - Pay attention to what elicits a reaction. Why is it a 10? Why is it a 1? What do you love? What do you hate? Why? Archegos is David's favorite Greek word, and it gets to the heart of good leadership. Four meanings: Author, founder, pioneer, leader America's founding fathers are the canonical example Lessons from a mysterious billionaire mentor: David asks very specific questions, listens, and takes lots of notes. When meeting with a mentor, show up with energy and specific questions. They are tired of hearing the boring generic questions. Be specific. The mentor talks 98% of the time and David just types what he says. He now has 18,000 words worth of notes. Some lessons: CEOs are Sloganeers: CEOs shouldn't write strategy memos. They should drive slogans.  Three lines. Three words each. (Bezos: Focus on the Customer) CEOs should tell the same stories over and over again, refining their pitch like a comedian. Gauging reactions Asking questions Listening to push-back Seeing what makes people's eyes light up Your message is only landing once people start making fun of you. Good goal in life: Always working, never working Story from Patrick O'Shaughnessy. He was asked how much time he spent preparing. Initially, he said, "not much." Then he thought for a while, and said, "I'm preparing all the time. My whole life is preparing to ask these questions."

For those who've ever felt the weight of unanswered prayers or questioned their calling, this episode is for you. As a sister in faith, I want to inspire and motivate you to recognize that your dreams are not impossible with God. I was praying about how to end the 2023 podcast season. It took a moment of pause and reflection to see I needed to share God's hand over every minute of the last 12 months. ***Make sure to LISTEN for 5 scriptures you need for your goals in 2024. I'm not one to boast, but I feel compelled to acknowledge how God carried me through 2023. Battling feelings of being too old or too late, I chose to turn away from the devil's lies and follow the path laid out by Jesus. With only an assistant working a few hours a week, a supportive husband, and an amazing best friend, it's truly been just me, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit navigating the journey. ✨  Looking Back on 2023 to See How God Was Always Working: Fit God's Way was #1 in New Releases for "Whole Food Diets and Women's Christian Living." Appearances on Christian TV shows such as The 700 Club, CBN, Life Today, Cornerstone, and Hope Today. Became a regular guest on Moody's Faith Radio with Carmen Leberge. Contributed over $10,000 to charities, including Phoenix Rescue Mission, The Dream Center, St. Jude's, and Compassion. Completed an 18-month Discipleship women's ministry leadership course at Scottsdale Bible Church. Shared the miraculous story of God sparing my brother Tommy's life who died and his wife kept his blood flowing through CPR.  Witnessed the joy of my brother Johnny and his wife Brandy getting married in Playa del Carmen. Celebrated my daughter learning to drive and obtaining her driver's license. Reached millions of people to share the hope of God, the grace of knowing Jesus Christ, and the power of walking in the Holy Spirit. As I sat down to record this podcast, I had no script, but what emerged was a message of hope through my testimony. Now, I invite you to reflect on your own 2023. Grab a piece of paper, open a journal, or use your phone to jot down the moments when God's hand was evident in your life. Faith Fuel for 2024 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13 (ESV) But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31(ESV) Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1(ESV) Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Romans 12:12(ESV) Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:23 (ESV)  Remember, as we look back, let's dream again with hopeful expectations for what God will do with willing hearts and faith-filled belief.
