Closing out summer in the north and winter in the south is the August 2022 edition of UP! This month's edition has a funky house intro and moves into some big room house tracks towards the middle and end. Kicking off the set is the PBH & Jack collaboration with Hannah Boleyn "Summer Never Ends". I was introduced to Martin Ikin while I was at the gym and first heard "How I Feel" ft. Hayley May, so now I have several of his tracks. Elton John & Britney Spears have a massive hit on their hands with "Hold Me Closer" mixed by David Michael. The same applies to Beyonce` & Madonna with "Break My Vogue" brilliantly remixed by Ray Isaac. The always reliable Dirty Disco with Matt Consola turn out two excellent remixes for Gypsy Love and Janice Robinson respectively. Melbourne based remixer Luin, delivers a power house remix of Kylie's "Supernova" with other standout remixes coming from Roberto Ferrari and Rafael Barreto. Elof de Neve reinvents "Every Moment" by Brenda Reed to add to the list. The set closes out with a beautiful mix of "Magic" by Olivia Newton-John. I was saddened to hear of her passing earlier this month. I met her a few times and she was delightful and gracious. The mix of this track was done by Peachy & Dan Murphy. You may ask yourself what the difference is between the two so I'm here to set you straight (no pun intended). Tea Dance used to begin as a brunch party with mimosas and later evolved into a late afternoon Sunday party that went on into the early evening so gay men could get their disco on and still be in bed early enough for work the next morning. Over the years, the tradition had pretty much faded but is still in place in various metropolitan areas around the country. In fact, you'll see Barry Harris frequently playing at many of these events and Houston's Dirty Disco (who own their own club) has also maintained the tradition. The past few years have brought out more vocal disco house tracks typically associated with these weekly events as opposed to the big room tribal house you normally expect. Because music has evolved, you can still throw in some modern future house tracks that have a younger gay appeal and still keep your audience. A good example from this set is the AWESOME Matt Consola, Aaron Altemose and Brenda Reed collaboration on "Every Moment." Every thing about this track screams GAY. For this set I closed it out with the house-friendly remix by Larry Peace but the Russ Rich and Andy Allder club mix is equally fantastic as a future house track that maintains all the uplifting elements that make this song so fabulous. Peyton's fantastic "Things Can Only Get Better" is another fine example of this balance as well though I went with the Eric Kupper remix since that's who jumpstarted Peyton's career. It had been my intention since last year to resurrect this series but I hadn't gotten around to it until now. Since I hadn't been doing my duty of setting aside the tracks that showed up in DJ services, I had to go by memory and pulled some tracks from the past two years that I may have mixed in with my Circuit & Anthems series because at the time — I had no place to put them and ended up leaving a lot a great songs on the cutting room floor. In this first edition, you will find current songs, updated 70's, 80's, and 90's classics, new songs that sample familiar beats from previous eras and lots and lots of DIVAS. [youtube v="jUBS6YnPraY"] I had raved about the output from Nacho Chapado and Ivan Gomez in my last post and there's another area these guys have been targeting with their Disco Gurls moniker, which are club-friendly samples of classic tracks or reimaginations from whole cloth for today's dancefloors. They've taken a very similar track that Almighty has done with their own hi energy remixes and are hitting it out of the ballpark. Only because Party Favorz understands our audience that I'm confident this set is gonna be massively popular and you can look forward to future releases under this sub-genre. While it can appeal to anyone who enjoys Disco House, it's targeted predominantly at gay men so I'll keep it listed under the Circuit & Anthems genre possibly creating a subgenre for y'all so everything is collected in one easy to locate spot. In the interim, Party Favorz isn't finished delivering the December party sets. In fact, there are a ton of goodies and stocking stuffers Santa has lined up for the remaining 20 days of Christmas. I know this month's edition of UP! is a little late, but you know... Covid. Having said that, I hope the September '20 edition of UP! is worth the wait. This set starts off with some smooth house tracks from Taylor Swift, Florrie and Brenda Reed. I also included Wayne G's outstanding & exclusive mix of "Stupid Love" by Lady Gaga as Wayne was kind enough to forward it to me. (Visit his Soundcloud page and show him some love). Dirty Disco feature three outstanding remixes on this set including Dua Lipa & Tina Turner in addition to Brenda Reed. The set heads into more big room territory with tracks from Katy Perry, Pussycat Dolls, Harry Styles and Sia. There are also two stellar mixes of classic P!nk and Avril Levigne songs remixed by Stephen Jusko and Tommer Mizrahi respectively. Stay safe & strong and Enjoy. FYI, all past Christmas dance mixes are still available on the site by clicking here. I've been holding out for some new entries and only three came through. Out of those, only one was worth adding. I was so looking forward to Dirty Disco's release this year that when it dropped, I was disappointed if not severely heartbroken. I was hoping they'd do a remake of the Weather Girls classic "Dear Santa (Bring Me A Man This Christmas)" which is so up their alley. Unfortunately, they put out a lackluster dance mix of "Last Christmas" by Brenda Reed, which is not some of her best work, so I took a pass and brought back the Young Divas version of "Dear Santa" and a George Michael bootleg of "Last Christmas." I kept this year's entry tight and remastered several older mixes to bring them up to today's standards. While many of the tracks have been recycled from previous efforts, isn't that what Christmas music is all about? That is, hearing your favorite tunes year after year by your favorite artists and never getting sick of them. Throw in a few newbies or alternate versions and you got yourself a little holiday party rocking around the Christmas tree. I for one never get sick of hearing the Eagles take on "Please Come Home For Christmas", or the Pretenders' version of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," or even U2's "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)." These are just a couple of my personal favorites. At the end of the day, many of the major artists who do release updated versions of holiday classics, typically don't invest in commissioning dance mixes for those tunes. The last major ones we've gotten were from Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey, and Leona Lewis which are included here. Even then, that was several years ago. That's unfortunate because there really IS a yearning for these tracks to be remixed. That being said, I am NOT about to ruin your holiday season by not creating some holiday magic for my followers. Who am I to scrooge you out of the most wonderful time of the year? As many of you know, I am an atheist but even I don't allow that to get in the way of enjoying the music I grew up with, and in a genre that lifts my spirits. I see many of you have already been hitting up on last year's X-Mas Dance Mix. FYI, all past Christmas dance mixes are still available on the site by clicking here. I've been holding out for some new entries and only three came through. Out of those, only one was worth adding. In fact, I was so looking forward to Dirty Disco's release this year that when it dropped, I was disappointed if not severely heartbroken. That is, hearing your favorite tunes year after year by your favorite artists and never get sick of them. Throw in a few newbies or alternate versions and you got yourself a little holiday party rocking around the Christmas tree. I for one never get sick of hearing the Eagles take on "Please Come Home For Christmas," or the Pretenders version of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," or even U2's "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)." It remained strong in the gay communities around the globe but has also been popular in the straight communities of countries like Brazil and Mexico. As I've always stated, music trends are cyclical and all signs point to a massive resurgence in the big tribal beats that make up the genre with more of these songs breaking into the Billboard club charts and often reaching the peak position. Heck, even Beatport is listing these tracks even though they haven't created the genre yet, they likely will. Over the past several sets I've put out, I've noticed stronger tracks and a lot more of them. With its massive tribal beats and progressive elements, the Winter Edition 2018 continues that trend. This set was getting so big I had to leave several songs on the cutting room floor. In fact, I could have split it up into two equal sizes but I'm guessing there will be more than enough for a part 2 by mid to late February. We've got rising stars like Alex Acosta, Las Bibas, and Spin Sista, while reliable DJs such as Ralphi Rosario, Barry Harris, Joe Gauthreaux, DJ Ranny, Mauro Mozart, Guy Scheiman, and Edson Pride whip us into a frenzy with their signature styles. That being said, Dirty Disco (Mark D and JD Arnold) the duo from Houston that I've been screaming about for the last year have been churning out floor scorchers one right after the other. In fact, they have already worked with just about every major DIVA known to man with the exception of a handful. Whether it's their original tracks, classic remakes, funky house or big tribal beats these guys are hitting all of our dance floor g-spots. I've got two upfront promos including Debby Holiday's spin on the Ceevox classic " My Imagination" and a re-work of the Kim English classic "Everyday" that are exclusive to Party Favorz. Add in "More" by the bigger than life diva Antoinette Roberson ("The Lover That You Are"), Brenda Reed's take on the Deborah Cox classic "Absolutely Not" and the on fire "Generous" by Olivia Holt and you've got a couple of guys that are working overtime to make our dance lives much richer. Hell, their current track with Celeda "To the Dancefloor" is still climbing the charts and has about damn near burned a hole in my phone. We're back with the 2nd installment of the 2016 Holiday Edition more tribalicious treats to kick those holiday blues to the curb. He drops in again with his take on Sia's "The Greatest". Ricky Rebel teases with Boys & Sometimes Girls, while DJ VMC (another Brazilian DJ on the rise) re-energizes Shannon's early 80's dancefloor classic "Let the Music Play". Houston's Dirty Disco score two really huge winners with their mega-remix of the Jessica Folker classic "To Be Able to Love" by George Figares & DJ Blacklow featuring Brenda Reed which would make Jonathan Peters proud and really gets sleazy on Tyler Glenn's confessional single "Shameless". These two songs represent two factions of the gay community and couldn't possibly have anymore contrast in style and substance than say Kim Kardashian and Lena Dunham. Dirty Disco taps into the core of these floor-scorchers and delivers their productions like two heaping slabs of hedonistic lust on a gold platter. Barry Harris takes Dua Lipa's massive "Blow Your Mind" and pairs it with Twenty One Pilots "Heathens" creating a fun bouncy mashup bound to make your head spin. Perhaps the biggest surprise resurgence of the year goes to Air Supply. The early 80's guilty pleasure duo who supplied the Top 40 with one adult contemporary sappy love song after another jumps back into the spotlight. With re-recorded vocals, "All Out of Love" has new life breathed into it for the dancefloor and is currently (once again) riding high on the charts. Joe Gauthreaux & Leanh turn the drama-laden milker into a giant circuit tear-jerker. We finally close this set out with the re-affirming former number one, "Say Yes" by the amazingly talented Jason Walker. True to style, Moto Blanco captures the essences of the original allowing Jason's glorious vocals to soar above the production. Last year, Spreckels Theater Company staged an unconventional revival of Rogers and Hammerstein’s ‘Carousel,’ a play many have heard of but few have ever actually seen. Eschewing complex sets, shoreline scenery—and, you know, an actual carousel—director Gene Abravaya inverted the whole concept, hauling the orchestra up from the pit, and letting the show unfold in front and around the musicians, in what was advertised as a “staged concert.” The production was a solid success, though—it being described as a concert—there were some audience members who showed up expecting actors in suits standing before microphones, singing the show from sheet music propped up on metal music stands. They did not expect a fully staged musical, presented with costumes and characters and choreography and even actual, if somewhat minimal, sets. Stripped down as it was, the result was intimate, satisfying and strangely magical. This year, Abravaya is trying to make similar magic, with another “staged concert” of a little known musical, this time taking on the rarely-performed, Arabian-tale-themed 1953 romance ‘Kismet.’ Set in ancient Bagdad during the time of poet Omar Kayam—he of the ‘Rubiyat,” the “moving finger writing,” and the “jug of wine, loaf of bread and thou”—‘Kismet’ blends original songs by Robert Wright and George Forest with reworked pieces by the 19th century Russian composer Alexander Borodin. The composer’s 1890 opera Prince Igor has been resurrected, and largely rewritten for ‘Kismet,’ with a new story and wholly original lyrics layered atop Borodin’s sweeping melodies. Kismet’s shaggy-doggish story, based on a non-musical stage play of the same name from 1911, follows a poor poet played by Tim Setzer with charming, spot-on perfection. Seeking a few coins with which to buy a meal, the poet arrives in Bagdad with his daughter Marsinah—an electrifyingly good Carmen Mitchell—accidentally timing their visit just as the royal Caliph—a somewhat stiff but gorgeously voiced Jacob Bronson—is reluctantly shopping for a princess, the various candidates arriving from surrounding kingdoms by the score. The poet, almost immediately arrested for a petty crime, attempts to save himself from a harsh punishment by passing himself off as a wizard to Bagdad’s stern, law-enforcing Wazir, played by Harry Duke, in a hilarious and richly entertaining performance that is simultaneously wacky and unsettling. At the same time, the poet launches a reckless affair with the Wazir’s primary wife LaLume, played by Brenda Reed, managing to be both sexy and a little bit scary all at once. Meanwhile, Marsinah, the poet’s daughter, accidentally meets the Caliph, who, for various reasons, assumes she’s a visiting princess, while she assumes that he’s a gardener. They fall in love to the aching strains of the show’s most recognizable tune, Stranger in Paradise, setting up a series of events that become frequently tangled, and quite a bit silly, right up until the story’s slightly shocking climax. There’s a lot going on, but ultimately, Kismet still turns out to be not much of a play, with a dated premise, thin characters and a preposterous plot, plus some outrageously nonsensical dialogue. Still, the cast is uniformly splendid—and as directed by Abravaya with sweet simplicity and an emphasis on the lovely but rarely memorable music—there is a bit of welcome sorcery on display at all times, bringing this lost artifact from the Golden Days of Broadway back to life with plenty of warmth, color, contagious enthusiasm and genuine love. 'Kismet' runs Thursday–Sunday through February 28 at Spreckels Performing Arts Center. www.spreckelsonline.com

With all the work, headaches and overall general crap trying to get Party Favorz moved over to Wordpress and Libsyn, my new hosting provider for the actual podcast, I was afraid that this year's Pride was gonna get lost in the shuffle. While working on Gay Days, I began making the rainbow connection and ideas just started seeping out my ears.  Then, I saw a promotional release by Matt Consola's Swishcraft, you know the GAYEST music label in the world based out of San Francisco, that featured a remix of the late 80's classic I Beg Your Pardon by Kon Kan. That lead me to their Facebook page, where I was reminded that Barry Harris, you know the GAYEST half of Thunderpuss was also half of the one-hit wonder group in the late 80's.  I Beg Your Pardon is scheduled for a full release in mid-July with all new remixes from a variety of DJs.  This appears to be an exciting project and I can't wait to get my paws on the new updates of this classic song. Ultimately, Got Pride? 2014 is a culmination of remixes that plays like 7 degrees of Swishcraft.  Virtually every song or DJ in it has some connection back to the GAYEST label in the world, including the GAYEST of them all Wayne G LOL. Sprinkled with some newer updated gay anthems and a few notable new releases, Got Pride? 2014 smashes the objective and rains down like a Skittles commercial.  Taste the RAINBOW indeed! We may only be halfway through Pride month but Party Favorz has even more goodness up our sleeves and it's highly recommended you stay close to the updates coming your way between now and the end of the month.  DON'T BE A LOSER AND MISS OUT! Instead, be the coolest kid on the block armed with the latest and greatest dance music podcasts to show off to all your friends at pool parties and whatever gatherings you may be attending this summer. I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend and until the next one …ENJOY! Album : Got Pride? 2014 Genre : Circuit, House, Gay Anthems Year : 2014 Total Time : 01:28:02 1. Lady Gaga - G.U.Y. We have had an amazing start to Spring this year in Sydney so I thought it was time to spring a new edition of Heaven. Number 2 is all uplifting vocal house. It's not so much about how new is the track, although there a few new ones such as Kamaliya's "I'm Alive", 7th Heaven's "Love Is Alive" & another great LFB remix of Debby Holiday's Dive '13". It's more about how good does it make you feel, such as Cher's classic "If I Could Turn Back Time" & Matt Consola's remake of "Dream Of Me" featuring Brenda Reed. Cosmic Dawn also turn out a stunning mix of Pink's "Try". Enjoy this slice of Heaven. Anthony 1/ "I'M ALIVE" (Moto Blanco Club Mix) - KAMALIYA 2/ "PEOPLE LIKE US" (Cosmic Dawn Club Mix) - KELLY CLARKSON 3/ "FLY AWAY" (7th Heaven Club Mix) - GUINEVERE 4/ "BIG GAY ANTHEM" (Starlab Club Mix) - DJ STONEDOG ft. With a cool clear sky morning in the ATL, I  thought it apropos to put out the 2012 Fall Edition.  In keeping with past traditions of this series, I wrestled up a HOT cowboy for your eye-candy pleasure to helm the cover art.  Yee Haw! Originally this came out to two sets, but then I realized Gay Pride is coming up this next weekend in the city so I went back and did some serious editing to bring it down to one to give it a more upbeat feel. Overall, I am beyond pleased with how this came out as I am certain all my circuit boys will be as well.  My new favorite tracks of the moment are the stellar Danny Verde remix of Mariah's “Triumphant” (a song that I really don't like) but I'll be damned if Danny didn't give it that kick it needed; Wayne G's 2012 re-version of the camp classic “I Just Wanna Dance” complete with new vocals by the amazing Alison Jiear; Diva Convention's massive floorfiller “Hearbeat” and Nelly Furtado's latest “Parking Lot” where Wayne G once again glitter bombs the song making it a playful club floor romp. I am about to start on the Halloween Edition this weekend, but first I gotta get myself to work. I hope life's treating you well wherever you're at and if not, just pop this in your pod cause it's sure to brighten your weekend. Until next time…ENJOY!
