In a captivating live interview during the 2024 NSLS Virtual Leadership Summit, we spoke with the legendary Janice Robinson, the iconic voice behind the international dance anthem "Dreamer." Known for her powerful vocals and heartfelt lyrics, Janice's career has spanned over three decades, marked by resilience and authenticity. From topping the charts to taking a hiatus for her family, and making a remarkable comeback on XFactor UK, Janice's story is a testament to compassion and survival.Janice's "Dreamer" continues to resonate across generations, with its opening words "love, life, and laughter" setting a powerful tone. She believes that the song's enduring appeal lies in its universal message and emotional honesty. "My savior is pure," she sang, referring to the purity of her soul despite life's challenges. Janice's lyrics speak to the essence of human experience, making "Dreamer" a timeless anthem that remains relevant nearly 30 years after its release.Janice's appearance on X-Factor UK was a testament to her belief in never giving up on one's dreams. She floored the judges, including the notoriously tough Simon Cowell, and rekindled her connection with the audience. Addressing the struggles of young people today, Janice advised them to create a "positivity village" and turn off the outside noise. She highlighted the importance of surrounding oneself with like-minded, supportive individuals and engaging in genuine experiences. Listen to this episode to learn more about Janice's earliest inspiration for songwriting, the importance of trusting your inside voice and how overcoming adversity can make you stronger.LEARN MORE:> > Learn more about Janice Robinson (https://linktr.ee/janicerobinsonmusic)> > Visit Janice's Youtube Channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrc46qrOtJLXwbzSE6-0HzA)NSLS MEMBERS ONLY:> > Listen to the bonus episode to learn how Janice Robinson wow'd XFactor UK judges with her iconic dance hit “Dreamer” (https://thens.ls/40VGrz7)Mentioned in this episode:Get 20% Off at the NSLS ShopUse code MONDAYS for 20% your entire purchase at shop.nsls.orgNSLS ShopNSLS members!
We're back this week with regular episodes and we couldn't have asked for a better guest than Jessica Valenti. Jessica has a popular newsletter on Substack called “Abortion, Every Day” where she covers the latest news about reproductive rights. She also has a new book that came out this week: Abortion - Our Bodies, Their Lies, and the Truths We Use to Win.Jessica shared her thoughts about America post-Roe, and in turn Rachel shared her own difficult personal story about losing her daughter Sarah shortly after she was born. The fact that extremists are spreading lies about “post-birth abortions” (which, to be clear, is just murder and is illegal in every state) and saying terrible things about parents like Rachel is… well, it's difficult to think of a strong enough word. Awful? Evil? Unthinkable? One thing, however, is extremely clear. We have to vote them out.But before Rachel's interview with Jessica, we're joined by Janice Robinson. Janice is Red Wine & Blue's Program Director in North Carolina and she catches us up on all things NC. The recent leaked posts from Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson were undeniably offensive, but Janice says that they just distract from the real issues facing women in her state like reproductive rights, public schools, and gun violence. It's easy to get overwhelmed with the daily barrage of news, but when we focus on the issues, we win.If abortion rights are important to you (and if you're listening to this podcast, they probably are!), the most effective action you can take right now is to join Rally. It's our online tool to track the conversations you're having about the election with the folks in your life. We're holding lots of virtual Rally Your Squad events this month — some even with celebrities like June Diane Raphael — and we'd love to see you!For a transcript of this episode, please email theswppod@redwine.blue. Been quite some time since I recorded and posted a new mix...been busy with summer, etc. The good news is that yesterday I recorded a brand new mix that should have a lot of familiar tunes, just in a little different form. Many of them are remixes or reworks of classic disco, 80's and 90's along with some brand new recent songs. In this mix you will hear QUEEN, DAVID BOWIE, XPANSIONS, BEE GEES, JEFFERSON AIRPLANE f/ GRACE SLICK, double dose of DONNA SUMMER, GIORGIO MORODER, ALEX PARTY cover, SUPERTRAMP, GLORIA GAYNOR cover, CANDI STATON, ELTON JOHN, DUA LIPA, JANICE ROBINSON, EVELYN 'CHAMPAGNE' KING, LINDA CLIFFORD, MARTHA WASH, and JACKIE MOORE. That is a lot of music history in one 79 minute mix...enjoy! Closing out summer in the north and winter in the south is the August 2022 edition of UP! This month's edition has a funky house intro and moves into some big room house tracks towards the middle and end. Kicking off the set is the PBH & Jack collaboration with Hannah Boleyn "Summer Never Ends". I was introduced to Martin Ikin while I was at the gym and first heard "How I Feel" ft. Hayley May, so now I have several of his tracks. Elton John & Britney Spears have a massive hit on their hands with "Hold Me Closer" mixed by David Michael. The same applies to Beyonce` & Madonna with "Break My Vogue" brilliantly remixed by Ray Isaac. The always reliable Dirty Disco with Matt Consola turn out two excellent remixes for Gypsy Love and Janice Robinson respectively. Melbourne based remixer Luin, delivers a power house remix of Kylie's "Supernova" with other standout remixes coming from Roberto Ferrari and Rafael Barreto. Elof de Neve reinvents "Every Moment" by Brenda Reed to add to the list. The set closes out with a beautiful mix of "Magic" by Olivia Newton-John. I was saddened to hear of her passing earlier this month. I met her a few times and she was delightful and gracious. The mix of this track was done by Peachy & Dan Murphy. RIP - ONJ. Women across the country were shocked and horrified when Trump was elected. But we didn't let that feeling paralyze us—we sprang into action! On today's episode, Rachel Vindman, Jasmine Clark and Amanda Weinstein discuss how the 2016 election spurred them into getting politically involved. They also chat with Janice Robinson, a suburban woman in North Carolina who was activated by Trump's election and has been organizing for candidates in her area ever since. Then Rachel sits down with Jennifer Rubin to discuss her new book, “Resistance: How Women Saved Democracy from Donald Trump.” Much like Rachel, Jennifer used to consider herself a Republican. But Jennifer realized that she could no longer consider herself part of a party that would choose Trump as a candidate. She and Rachel discuss leaving the GOP, the Women's Marches, Edie Falco's Hillary Clinton, and how we can continue to fight for democracy. Finally, Amanda, Jasmine and Rachel raise a glass to good news, great dresses, democracy, grandmothers, and the power of music in this episode's “Toast to Joy.”Do you feel like you could use some support figuring out how to respond to anti-mask, anti-vax, or anti-CRT messaging in your community? We invite you to sign up for one of our Troublemaker Trainings! They're fun events where you can meet other women who are facing this stuff too and learn strategies to stand up for the kids in your community. David Morales on The DJ Sessions presents the Virtual Sessions 1/13/21 About David Morales - David Morales is a globally revered American DJ, a Grammy award-winning record producer, a songwriter, and a businessman. He has produced and remixed over 500 records for an all-star roster of multi-platinum artists, including Mariah Carey, U2, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Madonna, and Whitney Houston. The global phenomenon and penetration of dance music into Top 40 radio would not have been possible without him. A native New Yorker, Morales was one of the first superstar DJs to actively tour the world and his activity, over the years, has only increased. Recent 2019 headlining dates include the U.K.'s 51st State Festival; a back-to-back set with Luciano at IMS' Dalt Villa party; massive five-hour “tag team” sets with Louie Vega; sold-out events at Manchester's Victoria Warehouse, Avant Gardner in New York, and A Night in Paradise at London's Ministry of Sound. Coinciding with these dates was Morales' keynote interview and official party headliner at the Brighton Music Conference, which included a streamed set on the British Airways i360 Tower. Not one to rest on his laurels, in the midst of this non-stop tour schedule, Morales launched Diridim Records in 2018. With this new label, Morales is signing and developing artists—and naturally, releasing some of his own productions. Diridim celebrates all dance music, from the classic sounds Morales is known for to straight up electronic. Releases in 2019 include the multi-volume “The Red Zone Project,” Izizwe, featuring Shota, and collaborations, “There Must Be Love” and “Freedom” with Janice Robinson. His unquenchable thirst for newness is precisely why this native New Yorker remains relevant. “It is about keeping an open mind,” Morales explains. Miles' Stuffy Nose by Janice Robinson-Celeste Read with Carylee brings the love of literature to children and gives a peek behind-the-scenes by evoking the joy of reading, helping children interact with authors, and displaying the hidden talent of these authors who may be living in your community. In this episode, we're going to read Miles' Stuffy Nose, written by Janice Robinson-Celeste. Have you ever tried to teach a toddler to blow their nose? Miles' Stuffy Nose helps toddlers learn to do just that! Miles is a toddler who doesn't know how to blow his nose. He seeks advice from his family members. One person says to blow like an elephant's trunk, another tells him to pretend to be a dragon blowing fire through his nose, and yet another family member tells him to pretend to be a whale blowing through its blowhole. He continues to get advice while using his imagination to be all of the things his family suggests until finally, he succeeds with the help of his sister. Janice Robinson-Celeste is the Founder and Publisher of Successful Black Parenting magazine, the first national print publication for Black parents. As a former teacher from early childhood to higher education, an author of two parenting books, including "Making A Supermodel, "Pride and Joy: African American Baby Celebrations" with Simon & Schuster publishing, and is a contributing writer for Huffington Post. Janice is the author and publisher of several children's board books, including "BIG KID: For When You're Feeling Small in A BIG, BIG World" and "Miles' Stuffy Nose." We have finally reach the end of our tribute to one of the most prolific and unquestioned godfather's of house music. David Morales Legacy pt. 4 picks up where the others left off and throws in several obscure remixes like Janet Jackson's 'When I Think Of You', Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' and First Choice's 'Love Thang'. It also includes some very early remixes that were the tipping point of 80's house, which later evolved into 90's house. Song's like Jody Watley's 'I'm the One You Need' and Lisa Fischer's 'Save Me' encapsulate that 80's vibe in transition. You may have noticed that throughout all four volumes, the songs have been heavily edited. Party Favorz took a scalpel and cut these monstrous epics into finely crafted tunes that capture the overall feel, while keeping the vibe intact. There was one exception; 'There Must Be Love' by Janice Robinson was so complicated in its structure, that it was impossible to maintain a good flow without losing a lot of the essence of the original, so I left it in its full near 10 minute glory. I hope everyone has been enjoying this trip down memory lane that honors David Morales in all his glory. I'm going to be sitting back and jamming to pt. 3 shortly, taking in his amazing accomplishments as an artist. I'll likely come back with a BackSpin series and a Funky Disco House set in the near future. Until then...ENJOY! Happy sweltering Saturday! Party Favorz has been on a roll and I decided to go ahead and drop the annual Summer Edition featuring some of the biggest circuit beats of the moment. We kick things off with Kristine W's (soon to be yet another #1) Out There, which admittedly took me awhile to get on board with but I'm firmly in her camp on this now. Looking forward to the second set of mixes that are scheduled to come out for this song. Israeli hotty Guy Scheiman brings us an unlikely update to the Carly Simon classic about her ex, Warren Beatty You're So Vain. At first I was like, what the hell are you thinking? After listening to the fantastic vocals by Michal S, I really started getting into it and I'm pretty certain you will too. Anderson Thacher and Pepper MaShay are currently riding high with You Stop Breakin My Heart. The release has plenty of stellar remixes to choose from but I took the progressive root with Tracy's mix. Given the current state of the union, Andra Day's Rise Up has been one of the most significant if not poignant releases this summer. Folks, I think we're on the brink of reliving the 60s all over again, just keep your guns at home. I should go ahead and mention Dirty Disco's fabulous re-work of the Kim English classic Unspeakable Joy, a song very near and dear to my heart. Given Kim's history of fame to shame, many of you might consider this a cringe-worthy choice but I respectfully disagree. No matter the singer, we OWN this motherfucking song. If it wasn't for us, there would be no song nor any Kim English. JOY! Unspeakable Joy! 'Cause they did not give it, they cannot take it away! So re-purposing this song for our own needs is our right and I thank the boys (Mark D & JD Arnold) a.k.a. Dirty Disco for updating this song and reminding us what we do have. San Francisco's tiny little gay music label that could, Swishcraft is riding high with Toy Armada, DJ Grind and Ultra Nate's One Night in Heaven, which is also currently moving up the dance charts. They also just dropped Move Your Body by Caroline Lund and Leo Frappier, which I've been all over since I heard it just last week. The remix package on this is equally as compelling, with so many tribal-i-cious choices. I can't begin to tell you how many folks have posted their longing for the return of high-quality circuit house music; well this is it and Swishcraft is currently doing their best to fill the void, so be sure to support their efforts. ...and then there is Barry, oh how I do love thee. I get proudly erect at the mere mention of his name. I don't think I've released a circuit set in the last two years that didn't have one of his mixes on it. This time we get a monster re-boot of Dreamer by Janice Robinson (of Livin Joy) which just soars as well as a ground-up re-work of Meghan Trainor's Top 40 hit Me Too. All in all, the Summer Circuit Edition for 2016 will pump you up and make your balls sweat. My aim is to have a part two out for you boys by August so please stay tuned ... Until the next time ...ENJOY! Album : Summer Edition 2016 Genre : Circuit, Progressive, Tribal Year : 2016 Total Time : 01:31:36 Kristine W - Out There (Giuseppe D. Extended Club) Guy Scheiman feat.
