Good afternoon, I'm _____ with today's episode of EZ News. **Tai-Ex opening ** The Tai-Ex opened down 29-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 17,190 on turnover of 5.1-billion N-T. The market moved sharply higher on Tuesday to close at a 14-month high after Wall Street rallied overnight. Tuesday high came as buying remained focused on tech heavyweights due to continuing optimism (樂觀) over the development of artificial intelligence-related products. **MND Releases New Revised Civil Defense Handbook ** The Ministry of National Defense has released a revised version of its civil defense handbook. The moved comes after the original version was heavily criticized for being out of date when it was published in April of last year. According to the ministry's All-Out Defense Mobilization Agency, the updated version of the handbook has almost doubled (加倍) its content and been expanded from 28 pages to 48 pages. Agency head says Shen Wei-zhi, the new version consists of two main parts - "peacetime preparation" and "wartime responses" - and has far more descriptions of civil defense concepts and more detailed suggestions on how to respond to different types of emergencies. The original version focused more on identifying which government agencies were responsible for doing what during wartime. **Premier Declares War Drugs ** Premier Chen Chien-jen is declaring war on recreational drugs. Speaking at an event marking the conclusion of the government's "Eighth Wave Anti-Drug Program," Chen cited marijuana as being the main target of recent crackdowns (打擊;鎮壓). According to the premier, over 6,000 kilograms of illegal drugs have been seized over the past three months and that includes 900 marijuana plants, while 56 drug factories have also been shut down. Chen went on to describe recreational drugs as being the "root of all evils" and stressed that President Tsai Ing-wen attaches great importance to drug prevention and control operations. ***US House Resolution to Overturn Gun Regulation ** From the US….. The House has pushed through a resolution to overturn (改變, 推翻) a new federal gun regulation. AP correspondent Norman Hall reports. **AI Used to Record Beatles Song ** Paul McCartney says artificial intelligence has been used to extract (取出) John Lennon's voice from an old demo to create “the last Beatles record," decades after the band broke up. McCartney told the BBC on Tuesday that the technology was used to separate (分離) the Beatles' voices from background sounds during the making of director Peter Jackson's 2021 documentary series “The Beatles: Get Back.” He said the new song is set to be released later this year. McCartney didn't identify the name of the demo, but the BBC and others said it was likely to be an unfinished 1978 love song by Lennon called “Now and Then.” That was the I.C.R.T. news, Check in again tomorrow for our simplified version of the news, uploaded every day in the afternoon. The building it was in burned down in 1987.-we talk about the so-called de-mixing technology that might be used to restore the audio that exists from the Star-Club shows. The best version of this technology as of this writing is the one that was used by director Peter Jackson for The Beatles Get Back film from 2021. It was also used to de-mix the instruments on the recent re-issue of Revolver, that were locked in on one track. [REBROADCAST FROM NOVEMBER 24, 2021] “The Beatles: Get Back,” made by Peter Jackson, uses footage of The Beatles in recording sessions for the album that would become Let It Be. The docuseries was the final piece of a months-long campaign that includes a photobook of the same name and Let It Be (Super Deluxe), a remastered and expanded box set of the original album. Giles Martin, the son of Beatles producer George Martin, helmed the new box set and mixed the music for the docuseries. He joins us to discuss both. Over the weekend, "The Beatles: Get Back" won several Creative Arts Emmys including Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series and Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Nonfiction Or Reality Program.

Legendary Director Peter Jackson joins Mike to discuss the Emmy-nominated “The Beatles: Get Back”.  Peter discusses why after a career that has spanned “Heavenly Creatures,” “The Lord of the Rings,” “The Hobbit,” and “King Kong,” he turned to documentary filmmaking with "They Shall Not Grow Old." And how the techniques that he employed in turning the trenches of the First World War to life  came to be useful when faced with the 60 hours of 16mm film shot by Michael Lindsay Hogg in 1969 during the Beatles' rehearsal for and recording of “Let it Be.” Peter tells Mike about the challenges posed by the 130 hours of sound recordings, and how his team wrote custom software to isolate and clarify sound–and how this became the spine of the film.  He virtually brings us into the New Zealand editing bay with Jabez Olssen where his team (again) built new processes to make the rushes amenable to editing.  He explains to Mike why the now-famous scene of Paul creating “Get Back” was–for the sake of historical accuracy–not overly edited, and how the rooftop concert was edited in one productive week before showing it to the surviving Beatles.  And he sums up his years of daily exposure to the inner workings of the Beatles by saying that they were 4 nice boys with incredible talent who managed to find each other. “The Beatles: Get Back” is now streaming on Disney+.   Follow on Twitter: @topdocspod @jabezolssen   The Presenting Sponsor of "Top Docs" is Netflix. Filmmaker Peter Jackson was 3 years old when The Beatles first appeared on “The Ed Sullivan Show” on February 9,1964. His family didn't own a television and he didn't see the original airing because he believes New Zealand didn't broadcast the TV show. “Even though I was born in 1961, I kind of don't really have a story or any memory of The Beatles in the ‘60s, which is crazy because I lived all the way through that period,” Jackson remarks. His parents were not “rock and rollers,” he says, but he recalls hearing the band “endlessly through ‘65, ‘66, ‘67 because the radio was playing nothing else.” Sixty years later, he produced and directed the Disney+ docuseries “The Beatles: Get Back,” about the making of the 1970 documentary “Let It Be.” Jackson's series has been nominated for several Emmys, and the award-winning director discusses what led him to tackle this documentary project, and how his labor of love morphed from being a feature film to a series. But first, Kim Masters and Matt Belloni, founding partner of Puck News, discuss the Disney+ positive quarterly results, and what the decision to raise subscription prices mean for consumers, and the future of its streaming services.

The challenges they faced to get these decades old recordings into shape were immense, They were forced to develop their own software, with machine learning, to clean up the audio and the results are amazing. In addition to audio clean up, the project presented a multitude of other hurdles as well. Brent Burge (re-recording mixer & supervising sound editor), Emile de la Rey (machine learning engineer & sound editor), Martin Kwok (supervising sound editor) and Stephen Gallagher (music editor) take us through it all.
