Claire Stevens summed it up with her "why" when she said she loves finding solutions to problems. From her early childhood days where she analyzed the angles on her smore's around the campfire to her collegiate studies at Duke University she loves challenging her thinking and learning how items work. You did read that right - Duke University - and she works at NC State so that can create some fun work dynamics which bleeds over to her family where her father attended NC State and her sister attended UNC (talk about a house divided). Claire has a passion for her craft and it radiates through when she talks about advice, mentors and even some pretty incredible projects she's been involved with. A turbine project at NC State provided a great opportunity to learn and be part of a ground breaking solution that had never been done on campus. She loves to be active and walks through her experiences as a triathlon athlete. She's done full and half iron man events with her husband and loves to push herself to see the finish line. From popcorn to wine the lightning round was a blast and her energy is contagious. We are honored to call Claire Stevens our hero and know you will find inspiration and wisdom from her amazing story. Completing a project successfully takes many groups coming together and overcoming hurdles. Claire Stevens digs into this topic and shares areas she's learned along the way to take projects from the design phase to functionality.Claire is the Utility Distribution Engineer at NC State University and she's had an amazing opportunity to facilitate complex projects and her real-world experience is something we all can learn from. Claire expresses the importance of getting feedback from as many people as possible and not overlooking operations for ultimate truth. The amount of time she suggests on design review can not be shortchanged and during that process, she finds potential issues and can mitigate them before they hit production. Communication is critical and knowing how to coordinate with others is important. Some people like texts, others email and some would rather have a face-to-face conversation. Building trust with those on a project is vitally important and mastering communication can set you on a path to success. Before you begin your next project take the time to listen to Claire's advice. This episode full of wisdom and insight that will elevate any engineer from good to great!Guest: Claire Stevens - Utility Distribution Engineer at North Carolina State UniversityHost: Chris GraingerExecutive Producer: Adam SheetsAudio/Video Editor: Andi Thrower

What do surgery, banana smoothies and ultra distance cycling have in common? Claire Stevens drops it all in this episode. She's an all rounder cyclist but I think it’s safe to brand her currently as an ultra distance cyclists, a vegan one at that, who earlier this year competed in the Indian Pacific wheel race where she covered over 4000kms across Australia in just 14 days! I’ve known of Claire since last year as she is a proud vegan athletic customer but there is a whole lot more to Claire than meets the eye which I had no idea about… We recorded this podcast over the phone so please excuse the lower quality sound. I do prefer to sit face to face with everyone but if I did that then I’d be missing out on interviewing so many amazing vegans from around the world. Anyways, here’s to where a positive mental attitude can take you.. which is something Claire truly possesses and you’re about to learn all about. You can follow Claire on Instagram at the handle @surgeonabike
